Walk into any toy store or the toy section of any department store and there are shelves of toys labeled ‘educational toys’. What does this mean exactly? There are books, games, dolls and on and on. How do you choose the best educational toy for the child in your life?

There are a couple of things to keep in mind, buy educational toys that are age appropriate, and that keep in touch with the child’s interests. Continually changing interests are a natural part of child development.

An educational toy is anything providing knowledge and develops skills for learning, be it books, games, or toys.

Choose quality over quantity. Too many toys can overwhelm a child. They cannot concentrate on any one toy long enough to let their creativity blossom. This can result in little benefit from the educational toys. When children play, they are using their minds, eyes, hands and bodies.
When choosing educational toys for children, you want to stretch the child’s abilities, but not have him become frustrated. Nor do you want something too simple that the child would either become bored with the toy or lazy physically or mentally. Finally, select one or two quality toys rather than a room full of cheap toys.

ARE TOY TRAINS MAGICAL?

It’s been said that Christmas brings out the child in everyone. Whether you are 5 or 95, there is nothing more magical than seeing your loved ones eyes light up with the “Spirit of Christmas”.
One of the most magical moments, is putting up the Christmas tree and bringing out the boxes of ornaments and lights. Once the tree is decorated, it’s time for the finishing touch, the toy train and village.
When everything is set up, everyone turns into a child again, no matter how old they may be. The next time you see a toy train move along the track, through tunnels, past the depot with the people standing there, step back a moment and look at the faces of those watching. All the stress of everyday life seems to melt away. THAT’S the magic of toy trains.
Toy trains are a great way to spend time with your child. They are educational and encourage your child's curiosity. They can also teach them patience, discipline and good work habits as they work on different layouts.

IT'S GETTING TO BE THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN

It seems that every fall we go through shopping cycles. Getting the kids ready to back to school, finding Halloween costumes, preparing for Thanksgiving dinner, and then running around shopping for the Holiday Season. What’s hot, what’s affordable, who has it in stock? We run all over town, sometimes to different towns and malls trying to find “the right” gifts. Wouldn’t it be easier to find what you’re looking for in one simple location?

Each year, the Toy Industry Association, Inc. holds 2 fairs, or shows, one in the spring, one in the fall (considered the fall preview show). At these shows, merchants can show off their wares, buyers can look to see what they hope will be popular, the next “big” selling item, and investors can get a look at what’s up-and-coming. Also at these shows is a chance for all of the manufacturers to get together and discuss the latest news from the safety commission’s legislation is all about concerning recalls, safety issues, everything needed to keep kids safe while enjoying their new toys.

Wouldn’t it be nice to spend the Holiday Shopping Season relaxed? What if there was a way to start a little earlier, so you won’t have to worry about the stress and hassle of finding a parking space, lugging packages all through the shops, and coming home tired just to have to make dinner?
