Top Ten South Park Episodes on Religion

IGN TV has compiled a list of the top ten South Park episodes that poke fun at religion. It’s no secret that Matt Stone and Trey Parker bring to light the fallacies of organized religion whenever possible. They even bring out the inner hypocrite in some without intending to do so. A perfect example of this is Isaac Hayes’ response to the Trapped In The Closet episode. It seemed perfectly fine to Hayes that Christianity and Mormonism were knocked on a regular basis, but once Scientology was displayed as the insanely idiotic cult that it is, he decided to leave South Park. And I thought religions were supposed to be tolerant.

The list definitely contains some of my favourites – especially Go God Go. I don’t think I’ve ever laugh so hard in my life as when I saw Richard Dawkins doing Mrs. Garrison doggy-style. And, there’s also Red Hot Catholic Love which shows that the apparent issue with sex scandals in the Catholic church has nothing to do with the molesting and raping of kids, but with the fact that these kids report it.

Jesus Thinks You’re A Pussy

I’m working in Anderson, South Carolina for the next few weeks and am having a really hard time adjusting to my morning and afternoon commutes. There are only three radio stations I’ve found that get any type of decent signal and they are all deejayed by pro-Republican and devout Jesus followers. For the most part, I’ve been having a pretty good laugh while listening to the radio, but I am having a hard time understanding how people can take this crap seriously after what I just heard while driving back to my hotel.

I don’t know if what I was listening to was an actual phone call or a commercial, but I’ll paraphrase as I can’t remember word-for-word what was said. It started off with a man talking to a little boy (I’ll call him Billy). The man said that Billy’s mom contacted him because Billy was having a hard time “being a man”. In the context of the call, “being a man” meant that Billy would not take on any responsibility or concentrate on anything unless it was something he wanted to do (i.e. – play video games). The man continued by saying that part of being a man is that you have to sometimes do things that you don’t want to do. He then said to Billy that he himself is not always strong enough to be a man and that Billy is not strong enough to be a man right now. The man’s part in the discussion concluded with him telling Billy that he can find strength in Jesus Christ and that only through Jesus Christ can Billy have the strength to “be a man”. The entire episode concluded with Billy calling his mom and telling him that “there will be a man coming home”.

What is this teaching children? It’s basically saying that unless you accept Jesus Christ into your life, you will always be weak. Only through “the lord” can you find the strength to accept responsibility and “be a man”. Bullshit!!

I am normally against stuff like this, but I am going to use the semi-popularity of my blog to pimp out something personal. My brother and three of my friends have formed a band and have a pretty amazing sound. I haven’t quite pinpointed their exact style, but it’s definitely a strong seventies-influenced sound. Fighting Prostate Cancer One Donation at a Time

Hi all. I have decided to take on a good cause for the month of November. I am normally clean shaven (with the exception of a soul patch that I have sported for years as a form of admiration and respect for the great Frank Zappa). However, this month I am growing a mustache for an important purpose – to raise funds to aid in Prostate Cancer research.

What many people don’t know is that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men with 25,500 diagnosed and 4,400 dying from the disease each year. I feel that if I can help in any way by growing a bit of facial hair and reach out for donations then so beit.

The cause is called Movember. I have a personal page where you can track my progress and help if at all possible. If you can, I would appreciate donations to help the cause. If you cannot donate, that is fine as well. All I ask is for your support during this time (hey – for a guy who shaves regularly I think an itchy face is definitely something in need of your support). I’ve gotta thank The Good Atheist for bringing this one to my attention. Apparently Will Smith has joined the ranks of John Travolta, Tom Cruise and these remaining nutjobs by following lunatic L. Ron Hubbard and his merry band of mentally retarded Scientologists. I’d love to offer my blow-by-blow take on the stupidity in this video, but following in the footsteps of Tom Cruise, Will Smith takes care of that for himself. Just sit back, turn up your speakers and revel in his stupidity and ignorance.

It Takes More Faith To Be An Atheist

Bullshit!!

The very definition of atheist is the absence of belief in a deity. I haven’t been writing to this blog, nor have I been very active on Twitter for the past month, however I have been trying to keep up to date on anything atheist-related with my daily Google Alerts. Almost every email I get seems to have a link to some faith-based post trying to get their point across that it takes more faith to be an atheist than it does to be a believer. I’ve seen many articles and comments that seem to conclude that since science doesn’t have all the answers with respect to the beginning of the universe or evolution then God must exist. Bullshit!!

All of those arguments stem from the logic (I use the term loosely) that since science doesn’t have all the answers there must be only one answer – dog (sorry, feeling a bit dyslexic today). Since when does anybody need science to conclude one way or another the existence of god. Yes, I do have complete faith in unbiased science and I am a firm believer in evolution. However, neither of those has anything to do with my disbelief in a sky god. My lack of belief is based solely on the fact that there has been nothing in my life that has ever indicated that there is a higher power at work. There is no solid proof for god. The Bible is bullshit and there is nothing that would indicate otherwise.

It’s called personal belief for a reason – it’s personal. Therefore, keep it out of schools. Keep it out of government. And, most of all, keep it out of my face.

Internet Explorer Visitors

I’ve tried to access my site a few times from various Windows computers using IE and the browser always seems to lock up (I use Firefox on my MacBook and don’t see any of these issues). If you’re browsing my site and are using IE, can you please leave a comment to let me know if you have any issues when browsing my page? I have a feeling I may have to change my Wordpress theme (or find an offending widget), but would appreciate some feedback before overhauling my site.
