I don’t enjoy, employ, or participate in the culture of fear that has clouded our country over the last several years .. but this morning, I am afraid. I’m afraid for women, for members of the LGBT community, for Blacks, Asians, and Latinos. I’m afraid for openly atheist, agnostic, humanist, and secular Americans. I’m afraid for the respect of free speech and the value of a free press. I’m afraid for the future character of our country and our place in the global community. I’m afraid that the ideas and values of racism and bigotry and celebrity idolatry have been given a booming voice and a podium in the sky with which to bellow. But mostly, I’m afraid for the millions who were hoodwinked and duped during this election into believing that a narcissistic bully cares, even in the slightest, about their real plight and troubles and worries.

And above all else, on this dark and dreary American morning.. I pity the parents and teachers who have to wake up this morning and explain to their children how this country that we so often speak so highly of has declared that the worst of us was the best for us.
