200 Km/hr = 120 Miles/hr

That is how fast my taxi driver got from the airport to the hotel. Fastest I've ever been has now been in a taxi. It was a really sweet Mercedes he had though and it drove really smooth.

It's confusing when white people don't speak english. Got work on getting over that.

Also first hotel I have ever been in that had the minibar free.

Well that is all I got so far. My work cell isn't working here so don't expect any stupid texts soon.

The last seven days have been stressful but I've reframed all of it and taken a lot from the experiences.

It's nice to be able to look at something many call negative and find the positive and chances for growth.

Also mitch is doing well on getting the Ning site up and running. I am liking the progress. Exciting. Working on Teleseminars and soon you can go to www.AskCoachJames.com and www.askjamesbird.com which will be working in the next couple weeks.

Brian and Todd also brought some famous coaches to my attention who I will be contacting throughout this week.

My 2008 Resolutions and Goals for the year

There five questions below are coaching questions used to elicit goal on creating a life I love. They are then followed by my resolutions and goals for 2008. that is then followed by my StrenghtsFinder 2.0 results I took about 6 months ago.

Just suppose you started to have a life you love, what sort of environment would you create?

I would have a Christian community that grows in closeness

I would have income generating activities centered around drawing people closer to God and “improving” their lives. A response to Mathew 22: 34-40

I would use time by myself to enjoy hobbies, grow in God and learning skills to assist in caring for others.

What actions might you take on a daily basis?

Study and learn more about the Christian life acted out

Study and learn more about effective ways to create social change, social movements, and personal change in people.

What skills might you demonstrate or share with the world?

Change work skills in creating permanent positive change

What attitudes and beliefs might you want to adopt (or live from)?

Love God with all your heart, and with all your should, and with all your mind

Love your neighbor as yourself

Love yourself so you can love your neighbor

Fulfillment comes through growth and giving beyond yourself

I consistently take immediate, rapid action towards my goals

I focus on the results I create in my life and the lives of others

So after doing this little exercise I have decided there resolutions for the new year

My New Years Resolutions for 2008

I take actions everyday that bring me closer to God

I will schedule time to meditate and read the word of God

I will schedule at least 10 minutes a day to listen to God without me saying anything

I take actions everyday that bring me closer to treating people the way Christ treated people

I will find good and Christ in all people I interact with more and more each day and evaluating this progress monthly

I will reflect on the actions I do that limit people’s ability to see Christ in me. I will decide if these should still be in my life and if so in what capacity.

I take actions weekly that increase my knowledge of creating Christ centered permanent positive change in people. This time is also used to make this knowledge into habits.

I will set aside two times a week to work on changing beliefs in my life. This time should be able 15 minutes in length.

I will grow my coaching business into a full-time job then into self-supporting business then into a movement.

I will search for ways to grow the reach of getting new clients by increasing the entry points into the funnel.

I will search out the parts of movement I am good at and focus on those. I will delegate away the rest of what I am not good at.

I will create a system where excess clients can be referred under my coaching brand to another coach.

I will spend time each month learning about how to create a movement in Christian coaching.

I will make for one social activity every two weeks that has me interact with people outside of my normal community.

I will continue and improve activities to improve my health and energy.

Learn to sail.

I will select one person from our group to keep me accountable and on track for these goals. This person will probably be Dan unless he says no.

Also in additional here are what Strenghtfinder thinks my strengths are:

ACTIVATOR - People who are especially talented in the Activator theme can make things happen by turning thoughts into action. They are often impatient.

INPUT - People who are especially talented in the Input theme have a craving to know more. Often they like to collect and archive all kinds of information.

COMMAND -People who are especially talented in the Command theme have presence. They can take control of a situation and make decisions

FUTURISTIC - People who are especially talented in the Futuristic theme are inspired by the future and what could be. They inspire others with their visions of the future.

IDEATION - People who are especially talented in the Ideation theme are fascinated by ideas. They are able to find connections between seemingly disparate phenomena.

These might be useful in knowing more about me and what I am good at.

This interview with Seth Godin mentions:

It doesn't matter that there are all these books for sale, because we haven't finished the ones we already bought. The post consumption consumer still wants something. They want attention, they want time; they want the privilege of choosing again. So, creating more noise, adding more clutter isn't solving anybody's problem, and it's not working particularly well. Into this world we threw the web, the most cluttered medium of all time. It's a giant haystack, and your product and your service on your website is a real tiny needle.

The mistake I think that many people make is that they want that needle to get sharper. That just isn't going to work, because the haystack is too big. Instead what we have to do is understand exactly how noisy it is, it's really noisy; and realize that we are not going to win by yelling louder than everybody else. We have to figure out someway to put the noise to work for us, and to work with our audience, so that they can spread the word instead of us forcing the word out.

So I am how does this related to "the church". Are we giving more choices or just fewer answers. How do we give people the choice of choosing God again without all the clutter.

A Thanksgiving email from Bill Hybels

So I got this email and bolded the parts I really liked.

It made me think about good old Billy. I really like Bill Hybels much the same as I like Steve WU (willow chicago), and Jackson Crum (Park Community Church). So what is the deal? I think its how their beliefs manifest themselves into an institution and how that works. Maybe I just don't see how Christianity works when you make it a religion or an institution in the way they have manifested it. I believe that these three men are men chasing after God but I still can't get the organizations they run and how they interact with God and the world around them.

So as I continue on my path for reconciliation with "The Church". I ask God to give me grace and help me overcome my judgments. In the end we all care deeply about following God.

After another three weeks of speaking and mentoring pastors throughout Scandinavia and Europe, I was able to fly to a friend's place in Florida where my family was already gathered. Upon walking through the front door my 14 month old grandchild was running my way, arms extended. Ahhhhhhhh! What a way to start a Thanksgiving holiday!

The older I get the more I treasure family. I know that many of you share that view. Other competing values simply seem to fall by the wayside as the decades unfold. All that really remains is our faith in Christ and the family and friends God graces our lives with.

This Thanksgiving is a poignant one for Shauna and Todd in particular. Shauna's new book "Cold Tangerines" has found an extraordinary response in the first few months after its release. This has opened up opportunities for ministry that she never imagined. Todd has put almost 3000 miles under his keel, as he makes his way toward the Panama Canal on his way to see the world on a forty-two foot sail boat. To have both of them at the table this year will surely generate lots of interesting conversation.

Son-in-law Aaron has been guest worship leading and recording a new worship CD these past few months. Lynne has been teaching in Germany and is preparing to speak at the AIDS Conference at Saddleback Church next week. She will also help host our weekend services on World AIDS Day weekend, December 1-2.

As for me, I am trying to get back on the right time zone and am rejoicing over the reports of God's power that was poured out on our baptism services last weekend. I can't wait to get back to teach at Willow in December.

To say I am a grateful man this Thanksgiving is the understatement of the year. My health is good and I feel the goodness and grace of God everywhere I turn. I do hope you feel the same way this holiday and at some point in the next few days you will rally the family around for a time of heartfelt gratitude to God for His magnanimous spirit toward the likes of you and me.

A moment of gratitude

I was talking to Brian about a talk he had with Todd who said something to the affect of "If you look at your life now and you can't be happy (or some similar word) then when and what will it take . It will never happen so be happy now."

Taking this to heart and also talking to Mitch last night about the idea of contentment and then reading an article by Timothy Ferris. I have been reminded to be grateful.

So far those of you who read this blog I am thankful as I know who you are and what you have meant in my life.

Connecting With Homelessness

The last few weeks I have been spending some time with a homeless guy in downtown Chicago. We grab lunch and sometimes I buy him a place to stay for the night. Presently I am working to get him into the Men's Shelter I serve at. Assisting anyone who shares such different paradigms is always a challenge. Pray that God gives me the insight to serve in the manner he sees fitting.

Blood Donation

For the first time ever I gave blood. I qualified for the special machine that takes out just red blood cells because I have a ton of iron in my blood (16.1 something or other). So I guess I ended up giving the equivalent red blood cells of like 16 people donating. So I guess I am the man. Can't give blood though for like 4 months though. Also got a cool sticker.
