It has been a long time since my last post but here it goes.

I have been doing quite some tests recently about 'finding' the Reverb that suits my needs (mostly Film Scoring stuff - with some electronics too). So I've been listening to many demos from Audio Ease Altiverb, ArtsAcoustics Reverb, Waves IR-1 and 2C Aether.

Well it really is a hard procedure because - one might say - all are reverbs! Well it's not that simple. There are different kinds of Reverbs. Algorithmic, Impulse Responses etc...

In my personal opinion I believe that the two winners (for me) are Waves IR-1 and Altiverb. The Impulse Responses are outstanding and seems to add more depth and colour to the orchestral/film music I am after.

So, what is you preferable Reverb type/plugin and why?

I hope this new year brings everyone more creative moments!

In this post - as the topic suggests - I would like to have your views / comments / feedback on your favourite (or most used) software plugin / sample library and why? This new feature allows you to load instruments in the background. This means, when you load up a sound from the Kontakt library (or any other 3rd party library), you no longer have to wait for the full sound to load!

At a first glance this may seem a minor improvement, but in a world full of huge software libraries this is a great advantage for Kontakt users. Some libraries may takes minutes to load, depending on the size. Big libraries like Abbey Roads Drums are notorious for taking a long time to load up.

Check the video below and see it yourself...

Many exciting thinks happened, in these last few months for me and so I hope for you. Now... I would like to start a mini debate here. I would like to hear your thoughts (both positive and negative if there are any), comments and opinions regarding your personal preference over a sequencer host application and especially why.

I personally use Cubase 5 on a 32-bit machine (PC). In the future I am planning moving on a MAC platform although that will depend on the stability of the dedicated operating system (which surely will be a 64-bit platform) as well as the stability of Cubase over a MAC or PC. The reason I have chosen Cubase is because I have been using the software for the last 8 years and I really like the interface and ease of MIDI editing as well as Audio handling and editing. Of course many improvements have been made by Steinberg throughout the last years which (I believe) brought the software to a very high level in regards to user-friendly interface, usability, stability and above creativity.

What is your take...

Some interesting information about Digital Audio Workstation regards to use and popularity can be found here : Music Software Popularity 2009 - Quarter 3

(literally one day before the deadline! - and what a deadline eh? 14th of February!). Anyhow, the link to the piece has been sent and now the only thing - I suppose - remains to be done is to make a frappé, cross my fingers and wait for the results. Apparently 5 days ago the entries were up to 65... I thought I will give it a go not just because of the competition (which if turns out positively I will be more than grateful!) but also I can use it as an incentive to compose film music - probably is going to be epic - again.

I will keep you posted and surely upload any links to the piece [after it has been submitted].

The music has been released on iTunes in December 2009 and you can purchase it from here. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with some great musicians and composers. Collaborations include John Harle, Mark Slater, David Campbell and various upcoming producers and film makers. However, I should admit that the most outstanding collaboration as well as great a friendship has been developed with the prolific and emerging film composer George Kallis with whom I had the great pleasure to work with (composed additional music) on the feature film Julefroskoten and documentary Drengen der ville i krig (The boy that wanted to go to war) both produced by Fridthjof films.

In this official blog I will be posting updates regarding any projects I will be working on as well as news including further collaborations with various artists/composers/producers.
