Chronic Illness in the Busyness of Christmas

The days between Thanksgiving and the Monday afterward are great for relaxing at my home. We've been eating leftovers and loving it! I haven't cooked a thing since Thursday, which is wonderful. I do wish we still had some delicious rolls left, but my son can't resist them. The pie is just about gone, too. We had a wonderful meal on Thursday with most of the family.

I certainly hope you're having a wonderful weekend. Online shopping is my method of shopping this year. Though I really would rather shop local, my health is so bad when I put myself through that Black Friday madness, it's not worth it. Last year, to get the savings, Hubby and I spent the day walking and shopping. I paid dearly for the experience, with a week of severe pain. So, this year I'm finding the sales online and getting my Ebates rewards to boot!

The online shopping experience is so helpful for those of us with chronic pain! I'm bundled up on the couch with my cup of coffee and a blanket. Why not add a great football game, too (you may prefer Christmas carols). I've been very blessed this week, with Hubby helping me prepare for Thanksgiving. We shopped together, cooked together, and he cleaned all the dishes. I could never have done everything myself!

Having more pain during the holidays is going to happen when you have a chronic illness. I hope and pray that you have someone to help you. If you don't, try to ask a friend for help. It makes life so much better. And, now with the wonderful Christmas season upon us, it's going to be a time of busyness. These are the days where pacing myself is necessary. But, that's a good thing for everyone to do.

When I look at my December calendar, I never plan much back to back. I don't plan two things on one day. I've learned this the hard way. When I was younger, and had less pain, I could do more. But, if I schedule too much, I will end up canceling everything. Sometimes, it's better to leave a day between activities. Find what works for your body, and don't worry what people think. YOU are the one that has to deal with the pain. I would rather be able to go to all the activities, but I just can't. So, I will survive the best way I can. And, I will be content to allow my body to function the only way that it can.

Our family (most of us) are relaxing together around the table, stuffing ourselves with very fattening foods. Then, we'll watch football and eat pie until we fall asleep. We have a very wonderful day, compared to many people. The world has gone crazy, and we pray for peace. God has met every need this year. Although I have suffered with chronic illness and much pain, I have also been the recipient of the grace and peace of God.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6
