It has been a while since I last participated for Yummy Sunday. It's just that I didn't have something yummy to share for you. Today, I am sharing you this yummy Refrigerator Fruit Cake. I made this last week and obviously, there's nothing left after an hour of serving. This is very easy to make. Here's how:

Ingredients:
1 small can fruit cocktail, drained
1/2 cup condensed milk
250 ml all purpose cream
Broas (soft lady fringers), butter cookies can be used

Procedure:
1. Arrange broas or butter cookies in a baking dish.
2. Combine all purpose cream and condensed milk.
3. Pour in half of the cream mixture.
4. Arrange another layer of broas or butter cookies on top.
5. Pour in remaining cream mixture. If desired you can make it into 3 layers.
6. Top with fruit cocktail.
7. Cover with foil and chill for at least 3 hours before serving.

This is my food trip today after breakfast. Green magoes! Oh so yummy, esp. when dip in salted fish with hot coconut vinegar! I went to the market just to buy green mangoes today just 3 hours before lunch. I had a sudden craving when I saw the salted fish my mama gave me last week by request.
He already cooked spaghetti for me last week but yesterday, when he learned that my baby sister is coming over and will stay with us for two weeks, he insisted to cook spaghetti for the both of us. Slowly, I am making my hubby adapt a little bit of Filipino ways. That is serving, entertaining and being hospitable to the visitors because when hubby comes over to my parents' house he is really well-served. Anyway, here are the plates of baby hunk's Spaghetti.
Here's how he did it.

Ingredients:

1/8 kl. spaghetti noodles

1/4 kl. ground pork

250 grams Italian Style Spaghetti Sauce (you can use any brand but he used RAM)

I whole onion (regualr size), sliced (yes thinly sliced)

8 pieces of ripe/red tomatoes, cubed (we were not able to buy tomato paste so he had to use tomatoes but it still tastes good)

salt and pepper to taste

Procedures:

1. Boil spaghetti noodles (follow the cooking directions at the back of your noodle pack)

2. While cooking your noodles, start sautéing your ground pork on the pan at low heat. Add a little bit of salt and pepper to taste, the sliced onion and the tomatoes.

3. Stir the ground pork on the pan occasionally until the meat turns light brown. Then add the spaghetti sauce. Let it cook for for at least 20 minutes.

4. When your noodles is done, drain it until totally dried up. Then get 3 plates, divide your noodles into 3. Lol! Add the cooked spaghetti sauce to your noodle and then sprinkle Parmesan cheese as much as you want. Enjoy!

Hubby and I have been eating fast foods a lot and if we both feel like going out, we go out either for lunch or dinner. I have been lazy doing the cooking lately and I can't recall the exact date as to when I cooked these fried prawns.

Anyway, I learned from my father that when you are frying prawns, don't put edible oil first. You are going to wash the prawns right? After that, you'll then put them all in the pan. At medium heat, just let it cook until its natural oil/water comes out. Just let it boil until that natural oil turns into syrupy. Then, add a little bit of oil, cook it a little bit and serve. I just thought of sharing that because before, when I fry prawns, I fry them directly with oil. I don't know if you know about this already but I am just happy I learn something. Happy Food Trip Friday everyone!

Yep, you see it right! It is the Johey Oak which my hubby hates a lot. He doesn't like its strong odor. It is nasty for him but tastes and smells yummy for me. I got this from the market early this morning. I already planned of getting this last night since it is Johey Oak season here in the Philippines now. I only bought one and eat it as soon as I get home.

Before

After

Do you know that Johey Oak originated in Borneo? Well, I just knew it a while ago. Lol. We call this fruit here "Marang". For me, Marang tastes better than Jack fruit. Its sweet taste is irresistible.

My hubby nodded at the idea. I raised my brows at the two men and said "hush"!? It's not that I hate clams but I never really tried it since I was little until now. I never even had the desire to taste it. I find its look disgusting, you know it looks like "pu$$y". I am so sorry for that but its true. Although my mother kept telling me that it is very reach with iodine and it is very good for me since I had a minor goiter when I was little. Yet, she was not able to let me eat it. I rather had dried fish and salted fish to go with my rice than clams and whatever seashell foods except shrimp fish, crabs and lobster.

So, I got a cup of clams for dad and hubby from the fish market for 30 pesos not knowing if it was the kind they like. Yet, when I got home they approved it. My father and I then started the cooking. My father taught me how. Hmmn, it was great thinking that my father and I had that quality moment together. Oh, I forgot to tell you, my father's cooking is great as in he cooks real good. He can be a chef and I wanted so much to be like him. So, we started cooking. We washed the clams and placed it in a medium size casserole just right for the clams to fit in and filled enough water in.

We let it boil at medium heat and checked it from time to time. As soon as it started cracking open I stirred them so all of them will crack. After that, we took them all from the boiling and bubbling water. Dad saved some of the boiling water in a cup. He said he was going to use it. We took the clams from its shells. It was fun, though the heat of the shells didn't feel good. When done, dad told me to wash them using the rest of the boiling water to take off the sticking sand in that particular part where I had to spread it open to wash that pieces of dirt away.

After setting everything, dad did the final cooking. He already had his chopped onions, minced garlic, string onions and ground black pepper. The sauteing then started. Dad added some of that juice he kept in the cup to add to taste and to add a little bit of syrup to the sautee'.

And next to that is the eating time. Check out some of this serve of sauteed clams in a serving plate. Do you find it yummy? Yep, I found it yummy and I had no choice but eat them. It’s been a while since I last cooked and tried a recipe from the cook books that hubby got for me. I didn’t feel like cooking so we were full with fast food. We didn’t feel like going out either, we only ordered food on the phone and have it delivered.

I know I didn’t made it right but trust me, it taste good. I had no crashed graham cracker so I crashed the crackers myself.

Last night, I felt like eating something sweet. I checked our fridge and saw a ripe mango. I checked if I still have graham crackers in the cracker’s box. I found out that it was half full (graham crackers are only our favorite munches). The condensed milk I bought a month ago was still untouched. I thought of making mango float but I need cream. Well, I am hungry and I want sweet. So there I made mango float without nestle cream.

Mango Float recipe here.

As my first post, I am sharing here the super delicious cinnamon roll from Cathy's Kitchen that is sold at Cafe' Isabel here in Dipolog. Wondering about "from Cathy's Kitchen that is sold at Cafe' Isabel"? Well, it's a story of two sisters (according to the neighborhood); one is a cook and the other one is a businesswoman. Let's get back to the cinnamon roll. This picture of a box of cinnamon rolls I got here was taken the first time I bought this rolls which was last January 17, 2009. It only cost 150 pesos. This is my favorite mate in the morning with my coffee.

Want to join Yummy Sunday? It is best to serve while hot to taste its hot, delicious, sticky soup. It serves as the best food to eat during Fast Day here in the Philippines. It is very easy to cook and the ingredients don't cost that much.

I used to eat this stew back home, when I was still my mama's little darling. Now that I am married, mom told me that I should study cooking. So, today I tried cooking Fruit Crops and Vegetables Stew. Here's how I did it:

Ingredients:
5 cups coconut milk
3/4 cup palm flour jelly balls (landang)-you can used sticky rice with palm flour jelly
1 medium size sweet potato, peeled and cut into cubes
1 medium size taro root, peeled and cut into cubes
---if you have purple yam, you can add it to add stickiness to the soup (was not available in the market today)---
6 pieces saba banana, sliced into cubes
6 tablespoons white sugar or depends on your desired sweetness

Boil some water or depends on how sticky you want your stew in a cooking pot. Add the palm flour jelly or sticky rice, wait until it soften. Then, add the cubed sweet potato and cubed taro, wait again until it soften then add the sliced banana. Bring it to boil then add the coconut milk. Bring it to boil again then add sugar to taste. Now, you can enjoy your stew while it's hot. This serves 10 people.

*

Thank You First Commenter

G.O.D.

I was not able to hear hubby calling at me from downstairs saying the food was just delivered. Yes, we only ordered the food tonight because hubby was being considerate not to disturb his wife in making money through blogging (as if I am really making good money). He didn't asked me to cook instead, he I ordered the foods. Good thing we never lose contact with our pizza maker.

So here is the food we ordered: American Hot Pizza for my hubby. I can't share here the recipe for now because i have no pizza recipe here for the meantime. I need to steal American Hot Pizza recipe first from Ate Mel (the Circus Cafe Pizza owner) since their business have closed a month ago. I'll try maybe she will share her recipe to me. Among all Circus Cafe Pizzas, American hot is our favorite. Hubby ordered rice, of course (as we all Filipinos can't live without that) and burger steak for me. What I am trying to point out here is the picture below. Yes, that is the blogger's dinner. The main dish is, none other than the computer, then the foods.

Since hubby got tired of calling me downstairs for dinner, he just took the foods upstairs in our room and grabbed two plastic chairs which we used as our table at the terrace then we had our dinner in front our computers. Do you think it's fun? It was very "unhealthy".

It is very easy to make as what the name implies -Magictime, MagicAroni. Actually, we have this for dinner last night. It is just right for having a light dinner containing wheat and milk to avoid gaining some extra pounds on the belly. The box already contains the main engredients needed (of course) which are the enriched macaroni shells, and the already mixed sauce in a packet.

Additional Ingredients

3 tablespoons margarine or butter

3 tablespoons milk/whole milk

Here's how you prepare it:

Boil 6 cups of water.

Stir in pasta/macaroni shells, wait til 7 to 9 minutes or to desired tenderness, stirring 3-4 times.

Drain the water off . Do not rinse.

Put the pasta back to the pan/pot.

Add 3 tablespoon of margarine/butter, 3 tablespoons of milk and the contents of sauce packet.

Mix well until smooth and creamy.

Enjoy your dinner!

Check out the recipe below. It takes 10 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes cooking time.

Paksiw na Bangus (Milkfish Stew)

½ kilo milkfish (bangus), cleaned and sliced diagonally
½ teaspoon salt
1 thumb-sized ginger, crushed
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 medium onion, sliced
4 cups water
¼ cup vinegar
½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
2 pcs. green finger chili
1 medium eggplant, sliced diagonally (1 inch thick)

How to cook:
Season fish with salt and pepper and set aside. Combine ginger, garlic and onion in a casserole with 4 cups water. Bring to boil. Lower heat and add vinegar and finger chilies. Simmer about 3 minutes without stirring. Add the fish and eggplant then simmer for another 5 minutes or until the fish is cooked. Serve while hot.
