Were the 13 Immigration and Nationality Act "reforms" authored by Barney Frank between 1981 and 2001 responsible for the Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev traveling back and forth between Dagastan and the US with a legal visa even after the Russian Government had informed the FBI and the CIA about his radical Islamist background?

This question is particularly relevant now that it has become all too apparent that foreign terrorists with legal visas are still inside the United States even after 9/11.

Frank's 1989 amendment prevented our customs and embassy officials from doing their jobs and denying visas to applicants based on their ideology and associations. Frank felt that such denials were discriminatory. After Frank's amendments became law a visa could only be denied to an applicant if there was "proof" that the applicant had been involved in "terrorist activities."

The most insane aspects of the Frank Amendment were abolished by the USA Patriot Act after it was revealed that all but three of the 19 hijackers of September 11, 2001 had entered the US with legal visas. There was, after all, no "proof" that those hijackers had been involved in "terrorist activities." Yet recent evidence indicates that those stupid laws are still being observed. Perhaps our customs and embassy officials are passing people through so as to avoid being accused of discrimination or racial profiling.

Other Frank amendments include a 1981 law that loosened restrictions on student visas. Terrorist commander Mohammed Atta held a legal student visa on 9/11 with the knowledge that he would not be closely scrutinized. University of Florida Professor and suspected head of Islamic Jihad Sami al-Arian held a teaching visa thanks to Frank's law H.R. 5287. Other Frank amendments impeded embassy officials from using their discretion in granting visas overseas. These laws made it difficult, according to Gerald Posner, the author of "Why America Slept - The Failure to Prevent 9/11," for the FBI and the CIA to share information once the suspected terrorists were inside the United States.

Terrorism expert Steven Emerson, in congressional testimony, spoke of Hamas members and sympathizers, after the 1989 passage of the Frank Amendment, flooding into the United States where they recruited members in Mosques, raised money for overseas "charities" and engaged in anti-Semitic and anti-American propaganda.

Regarding the Frank amendment of 1989, former Clinton Administration CIA Director James Woolsey told the Wall Street Journal "Congress had made it illegal to deny visas to members of terrorist groups." Gerald Posner wrote "Congressman Barney Frank...led a successful effort to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act so that membership in a terrorist group was no longer sufficient to deny a visa."

Barney Frank, criticizing the USA Patriot Act on his official congressional website wrote: "The bill (the Patriot Act) would have allowed the exclusion of visa applicant who had "endorsed or espoused terrorist activity"...but the mere "espousal or endorsement" of terrorist activity casts far too wide a net of exclusion."

All sovereign nations, according to norms of international law and custom, today and historically, have a right to deny visas to anyone they choose. There is no such a thing as a right for a person to enter into any sovereign nation without permission. This common sense right is no different from the right of the individual or the family to deny a person entry into their home or place of domicile. This is, indeed, a common sense natural right. Barney Frank came up with the brilliant idea of overturning that right, that basic feature of any sovereign nation, that right to protect the national home. The consequence of this policy has been devastating, as we have seen.

Mass. Dem Senate Candidate Jumps Ugly on Republican opponent

Descending to a new low in Massachusetts, Democrat Rep. Ed Markey, running for the U. S. Senate seat vacated by John Kerry, has disgraced himself with an ad that places a picture of his opponent, decorated former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez next to Osama ben Laden.

If Ed Markey was in possession of even a shred of decency he would publicly apologize to Gomez for this outrageous insult against a man in uniform, a man who has served his country with honor and distinction....

This ugly and disgusting slur on the reputation of a decorated veteran is a new low in Massachusetts politics. If this type of sewer politics is not responded to, and it is highly unlikely that it will be mentioned by the liberal Massachusetts media which will stop at nothing to insure that the liberal Democrat Markey wins, than nasty tactic this will become a national trend for Democrats as the 2014 mid-term election approaches. If Markey is not held to account for this dirty and despicable smear, Democrats will be emboldened and will run amuck with impunity with these types of desperate tactics. This gutter politics will become par for the course as Americans start to wake up and feel the pinch of Obamacare which will start to kick in this year.

The Markey ad, which ran on MSNBC, criticizes OPSEC, a group of Navy SEAL’s, which includes Gomez, for claiming that President Obama had revealed national security secrets pertaining to the bin-Laden operation in order to score political points in his re-election campaign. OPSEC claimed that Obama, by revealing information about the operation, risked turning the bin Laden killing into “an intelligence disaster.”

In classic agit-prop style, Markey and his left-wing echo chamber is falsely claiming that OPSEC is made up exclusively of Republicans and is itself motivated by politics. Whether or not OPSEC is political, Markey, the 35 year incumbent congressmen with an undistinguished career and who is not well known or well liked outside his district, has demonstrated the nerve to put up a picture of Gomez, his opponent, a graduate of Harvard Business School and a successful businessman whose parents immigrated to this country from Columbia, next to the villain of 9/11.

No doubt the liberal Massachusetts Democrats, with possible assistance from national Democrats will close ranks, lock-step, behind Markey. The Democrats realize that a Gomez victory would likely have the same effect as the victory of Republican Scott Brown in the 2010 special election for the Senate in Massachusetts, an effect that would shake the Democratic Party to its core, like an earthquake, as the 2014 mid-term elections approach next year.

In the aftermath of the radical Islamo-Communist terror bombing of Boston, and a subsequent spate of near misses and evacuations across the country, it is appropriate to look back and consider the measures that were taken in similar circumstances in 1919 by A. Mitchell Palmer, the liberal Democratic Quaker Pacifist Attorney General who served in the liberal Democratic administration of President Woodrow Wilson.

Following the 1917 Bolshevik coup in Russia, pro-Soviet anarchists launched a campaign of bombing and assassination against American officials, judges, and prominent citizens. On August 20, 1918, Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin issued a fatwa against the United States of America in his “Letter to American Workers.” Lenin called on his American sleeper cells to “play an exceptionally important role as uncompromising enemies of American imperialism” by launching a “civil war against the bourgeoisie.”

April 28, 1919, a Bolshevik bomb was dismantled at the home of Seattle Mayor Ole Hanson. The next day, a Bolshevik bomb ripped the hands off of an employee of Georgia Senator Thomas Hardwick and severely burned his wife. A few days later, on May Day, 1919, 34 bombs were intercepted before reaching their targets which included such leading figures as Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, North Carolina Senator Lee S. Overman, Utah Senator William H. King, Postmaster General Albert Berlson, and John D. Rockefeller. On that same day, coordinated violent and seditious riots were launched in several American cities including Boston. The next day a bomb ripped through a municipal building in Brownsville Pennsylvania.

On June 2, 1919 eight American cities were bombed simultaneously by Soviet sympathizing anarchists. Bombs exploded at the homes of Boston Judge A. F. Hayden and at the Newton, Massachusetts, home of State Representative Leland Powers. A bomb was defused at the office of Cleveland Mayor Harry L. Davis and two bombs exploded in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, one next to the home of Federal Judge J. Thomson and the other next to the home of immigration official W.W. Sibray. In New York City, the home of Judge Charles C. Nott was bombed killing night patrolman William Goshner and an unidentified man in what the New York Times referred to as an “infernal killing machine.” In Philadelphia, the Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church and the Frankfort Arsenal were bombed. On that day bombs exploded at the homes of prominent citizens in Patterson and East Orange New Jersey.

Most significantly from a political standpoint, a huge bomb ripped through the front of the Georgetown home of Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer. The terrorist planting the bomb was killed when he tripped running from the scene. Palmer and his young family were not hurt in the assassination attempt. The massive explosion caused windows to shatter at the neighboring home of Palmer’s close friend and political associate, Under Secretary of the Navy Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who ran out to help.

Palmer acted swiftly by establishing a special unit to investigate the terrorists and he put 24-year-old liberal Democrat J. Edgar Hoover in charge. The special unit, which would become the FBI, proceeded to round up more than 10,000 suspected alien terrorists over the next seven months. By January 1920, 247 alien terrorists had been deported. Those who could not be deported due to insufficient evidence were released.

Nine months later, September 1920, pro-Soviet anarchists bombed Wall Street killing 40 commuters and injuring more than 400 in an explosion that would make the Boston Marathon bombing look like a fire-cracker in comparison. The street was littered with dismembered corpses and puddles of blood. The pro-Soviet jihadists were secular radicals, most of who had recently emigrated from Europe, who were trying to destabilize America with a new kind of warfare. They called their terrorist acts the “propaganda of the deed.” Their garden of Allah was socialism and anarchy.

The Wilson administration broke the back of the terrorist infrastructure and the result was relative peace and security for several generations. Contrary to the propaganda of the terrorist sympathizers, this was accomplished lawfully and with an impressive degree of restraint. Alien terrorists and their alien enablers were deported, the threat was suppressed, and civil liberties were preserved.

The Wilson administration response to the emergency went a long way toward sparing this country from the type of chaos and violence that plagued Europe at the time, violence and chaos that contributed to the enthronement of National Socialism in Germany. President Wilson articulated his counterterrorism policy in his December 1919 message to Congress: “Let us be frank about this solemn matter, the evidences of the world-wide unrest which manifest themselves in violence throughout the world bid us pause and consider the means to be found to stop the spread of this contagious thing before it saps the very vitality of the nation itself.”

The Islamo-Communists of today are more dangerous than were the Anarchist- Communists of 1919-1920 because of their indiscriminate terror tactics. Rather than targeting specific people for murder, as did the Anarchist-Communists, the Islamo- Communists kill as many Americans as they possibly can as was the case at the Boston Marathon. Wilson recognized the subversive threat the alien anarchists posed to America and he chose to crush the conspiracy in an entirely lawful manner. No alien has a right to reside in the United States, or in any sovereign state according to norms of international law and custom. Like the FBI of 1919-1920, the FBI today should roundup aliens suspected of involvement in the terrorist conspiracy and, after a process of determining the nature of the involvement, those found to have been involved in aiding or abetting terrorism should be swiftly deported.

Morse has lots to say, and what he says about ACORN needs to be common knowledge if the "fundamental transformation" of America that ACORN and Obama have been pursuing is to be stopped.

Morse really gets it, and the title of his ACORN book – ACORN: The Takeover of America – is right on target.

Morse: "...make no mistake, groups like ACORN celebrated the economic crunch because the financial meltdown, one in which the hard earned investments and equity built up by working Americans evaporated into thin air perhaps forever, one that caused massive layoffs and chronic unemployment, trillion dollar deficits, higher taxes and government control over business that was heretofore unthinkable, is precisely what ACORN and their ilk wanted and what they have been working toward for decades. The situation today is as a result of their deliberate and planned handiwork. They couldn't have been happier over the possibility that our economic system might implode. They revel over the possibility that the earnings and the equity that was achieved by working people, those of us who ACORN might call capitalist roadsters, might have forever vanished. Their ilk thrives in an atmosphere of uncertainty and perceived impending chaos as this condition presents an opportunity for them to invent new consciousness."

As I wrote on September 29, 2008 in "Blame Obama's ACORN for the Financial Crisis" (www.webcommentary.com/php/ShowArticle.php?id=gaynorm&date=080929):

"Don't expect the mainstream media to identify ACORN and its favorite community organizer and lawyer, rookie United States Senator and current Democrat presidential nominee Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. among the villains in the current financial crisis.

"But media bias does not change facts."

MSNBC urges us to lean forward, but we need to look back and learn. Morse focuses on plenty of facts that the liberal media establishment won't.

Barack Obama, the community organizer who first became the Senator from ACORN, then the President from ACORN and cleverly distanced himself in the general public perception from ACORN in 2009 and thus successfully ran for reelection, candidly spoke of "fundamentally transforming the United States of America" five days before Election Day 2008, but takeover is clearer.

Atypically, the book is even better than its promotional description suggests.

Morse wrote in his book that "ACORN technically went out of business in 2009 after their criminality was exposed by Operation Veritas activists James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles" and "[m]ost of their taxpayer funded grants were cut off as a result of the scandal" and "evidence suggests that local branches of ACORN have continued to operate under other names." He did NOT indicate that ACORN is defunct.

Defunct means "no longer living, existing, or functioning," and the ACORN family or organizations (as ACORN founder and chief organizer from 1070 until 2008 put it) definitely is NOT defunct. The 28-page report rightly concluded that (1) "[r]umors of ACORN's demise are completely false" because "ACORN lives on in the form of its affiliated organizations, such as Affordable Housing Centers of America, The Advance Group, The Black Institute, and Project Vote" and "ACORN's newly formed state organizations will continue to carry on...ACORN's work of organizing low- and moderate-income folks) ACORN's bankruptcy papers "appear to be incomplete and/or inaccurate" and "investigators believe these papers do not account for tens of millions of dollars in ACORN funds"; (3) "Project Vote is clearly going to continue to undermine the rule of law and the integrity of elections through fraudulent voter registrations" and "has retained voter registration fraud-tainted staff," so "the scandal of 2008 is bound to be repeated in 2012"; and (4) "ACORN leaders at both the state and national levels seem to have systematically violated numerous laws, and yet, the Obama Justice Department, likely due to the president's personal and political ties to the organization, refuses to investigate."

Morse rightly asserts: "As this nation enters into the second term of the Obama administration, former ACORN operatives are operating full speed ahead in most American cities. After the collapse of ACORN, they morphed into Occupy Wall Street and elements got out the vote for Obama and liberal Democrats in 2012. They consist of a growing cadre of idealistic young people, dedicated and well-meaning young people who are willing and eager to put in long and thankless workdays for very little pay. It's really too bad that this well intentioned idealism is directed not toward helping poor people become self-sufficient and proud members of our free society."

Exactly, and ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief appreciates that even better than Morse, because before the 2008 election she was one of those well-intentioned idealists and proudly voted for Obama in the utterly unrealistic expectation that he would be good for America, and then "evolved" as she watched what he actually proceeded to do and was disillusioned.

ACORN is subversive, and as ACORN expert Matthew Vadum warned in"Subversion Inc.: How Obama's ACORN Red Shirts are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers, "ACORN is still with us, doing its best to destroy American capitalism and democracy." In 2010 Vadum summarized the rebranding scheme as follows (www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/mar/12/new-indictments-hit-crumbling-acorn/#ixzz2QvYecWQq):

"ACORN is hoping its latest public-relations ruse may give it an opportunity to take in untold millions of taxpayer dollars under cover of darkness just in time to influence upcoming elections.

"The ruse consists of ACORN's effort to pass off various state chapters as supposedly new groups independent of ACORN. In this rebranding charade, state chapters are pretending to break away from the national ACORN group and reincorporate themselves as independent organizations.

"At least four dummy nonprofit corporations have emerged from the rebranding process in recent months.

"They are the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, New York Communities for Change, New England United for Justice (Massachusetts) and Arkansas Community Organizations. All four groups operate out of ACORN offices and are run by ACORN staffers. The president of New England United for Justice, Maude Hurd, just happens to be the 20-year national president of ACORN.

"A senior ACORN staffer acknowledged the scam in an e-mail leaked to me:

'The truth is that it is hard for us to forsee [sic] any scenario where ACORN continues beyond the end of 2010 and some of us think it might not last that long," writes Nathan Henderson-James, director of ACORN's online campaigns, in an apparently authentic Feb. 22 e-mail.

'Last one to leave turn out the lights and wipe the server,' he writes at the end of the message.

"The message from Mr. Henderson-James was forwarded to me by various sources who obtained it from the Google listserv Townhouse, an invitation-only discussion forum run by Matt Stoller, senior policy adviser to progressive hero Rep. Alan Grayson, Florida Democrat.

"My sources advise me that the hundreds of high-level Democratic operatives, liberal activists and journalists who subscribe to the listserv are furious that Mr. Henderson-James' e-mail was leaked. Listserv members are said to be angrily accusing each other of being the leakers. This breach of security could be the end for Townhouse, one of the members reportedly said.

"ACORN Housing Corp., the best-funded of ACORN's affiliates, is also participating in the rebranding effort aimed at duping high-dollar charities and the public and allowing ACORN to continue eating your tax money. ACORN Housing has opted simply to change its name to Affordable Housing Centers of America Inc.

"There is no indication so far that ACORN intends to rebrand its voter-registration arm, Project Vote, which continues to operate."

Morse has lots to say, and what he says about ACORN needs to become common knowledge if the "fundamental transformation" of America that ACORN and Obama have been pursuing is to be stopped.

The former Harvard Professor who received tenure by falsely claiming to be a minority, the former corrupt corporate hack and insider fixer Elizabeth Warren has transformed herself, since being elected to the US Senate, into a shameful Democratic Party stooge. There she stood, on the day after the atrocity at the Boston Marathon, at a press conference where she took the opportunity to praise President Obama profusely and to let us all know what a wonderful job he is doing. No mention of the three people brutally murdered in the bombing. No mention of the over a dozen people fighting for their lives who had their limbs blown off. Barely a mention of the incredible work being done by law enforcement at all levels or the brave and selfless work of Boston volunteers who rose to the occasion. I’m sure President Obama is doing a great job but even he must have cringed with embarrassment at this level of blatant butt kissing.

Since being elected, the former corrupt corporate lawyer, who got a big check from Dow Chemical to stop women who were trying to get a little justice after being contaminated with toxic chemicals leeching out of their breast implants, has focused on raising dough for Democratic candidates. In one of her first acts in Congress, she set up a PAC to raise money for Democratic congressional candidates to run against her Republican colleagues in Congress. While there is nothing wrong with raising money for Democrats or Republicans it is obviously unseemly for a sitting US Senator to be doing it and to then expect to conduct the business required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and by the nation by working with Republicans to get things done.

At least she doesn’t appear to have put her hand in the till yet which was not the case when she was flipping foreclosed-on mortgages back home in Oklahoma City. Back then she made bundles of money turning people out of their homes, including a woman with children whose husband was serving in Iraq, people who fell late on their mortgages, so she could make a quick buck. No doubt she was working with the banks, members of the same industry that she smugly and sanctimoniously railed against during her campaign.

Oh yes, the champion of the little guy, the hero of those who are just seeking a place at the table, also took big checks from an insurance company trying to dodge claims from victims of asbestos cancer and from a manufacturer trying to screw their union employees. The inside fixer also got a tidy sum from you and I, the working taxpayer, for setting up the ironically named Consumer Protection Bureau, ironic given Warren’s stellar record of protecting consumers. President Obama had enough sense to pass her over when it came time to appoint a head of that new agency. He probably knows some things about her that the rest of us don’t.

This brings me to my fellow Massachusetts voters. I understand that Massachusetts is a liberal state that elects liberals to office but I expected more discernment even from my fellow Massachusetts citizens, even though they are liberal. I expected them to at least notice the enormous sums of corporate cash pouring into her campaign from out of state, more corporate moolah for a state candidate than any in Massachusetts history. But, alas, they elected this consummate liar, this faker who was getting over 300K per year and a free house from Harvard to teach one class. Now we’ll have to listen to her drone on incessantly about campaign finance reform and the millionaires and billionaires. Thus, for the next six years Massachusetts will have to endure disgrace and humiliation as we become a laughing-stock. For one, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to my fellow Americans on behalf of my state for inflicting this travesty of a Senator on the rest of the country.

At the time of the Feb. 2013 release of my book On the Jewish Question – Karl Marx, anti-Semitism and the war against the West, I notified hundreds of museums, institutions, periodicals, and university departments specializing in the Holocaust and in Holocaust and Genocide Studies asking them to please consider including the topics I covered as part of their discourse. I notified Jewish organizations across the United States and the world. Other than one or two neutral acknowledgements and a couple of nasty emails the silence was deafening.

My book is about the one aspect of the rise of Nazism and the implementation of the Holocaust against the Jews of Europe that is virtually never discussed. Indeed, this one aspect, one out of many that exist in a vast and complex subject, has been virtually airbrushed out of the public discourse. My book has been censored from the otherwise excellent and probative body of analysis and thinking on the topic. I contend that there will never be a fully integrated understanding of the Holocaust until the subject that I raise is broached. The blackout of the information that I have researched is a crime against the memory of the six million victims of the Holocaust whose blood cries out from the grave for truth and justice. Such silence abrogates adherence to the spirit of the slogan “never again.”

The politically incorrect aspect that I raise is the influence that Karl Marx, as evidenced by his anti-Jewish tract On the Jewish Question, which was first published in 1844 and which was re-published numerous times and in many languages, had on Nazism and on Hitler. In my book I re-publish Marx treatise, a tract which should be listed in the same infamous pantheon of anti-Semitic hate literature as Mein Kampf and as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, in its entirety. I link that hateful treatise to the political and philosophical aspirations and the formation and the essential nature of Nazism. Marxism was, as I demonstrate, completely absorbed by Hitler and by the Nazis and Marxist ideas and strategies had a great deal to do with the Holocaust.

In On the Jewish Question, Karl Marx wrote the following:

What is the secular basis of Judaism? Practical need, self-interest. What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money.

Marx theorized that the best means of eliminating from human society those natural human traits, self-interest, huckstering, money, was for Judaism to be made impossible to use his term. Philosophically, Marx claimed that human nature could be changed by eliminating what he viewed as these bad influences. Marx wrote about false consciousness which he applied to Judaism, false consciousness that he claimed was created by exploiters. He believed that such false consciousness could be replaced by a new paradigm that would advance human society toward his demented concept of utopia.

He sought to replace such positive human traits as self-interest, which is the natural desire of the human being to define his own life and destiny, with collectivism. He sought to replace Huckstering, which is the natural need for the human being to trade goods and services in an atmosphere of freedom, with utopia. He sought to replace Money, which allows people a means to store value and which is the basis of private property with Communism. I examine the similarities between this theory and the Nazi concept of the Ubbermench.

I also note that by 1920 Lenin and the Bolsheviks in Russia has already murdered 4-5 million of their own people, for political reasons, before Hitler and the Nazis had even formed as a group. I point out that these facts were well known to Hitler and the Nazis. I note that the world was largely silent in the face of these atrocities and that in some circles Lenin was praised as a visionary. I examine whether this treatment of the Bolsheviks emboldened the Nazis.

I have been fascinated by the Holocaust since as a child I heard my grandparents and uncles and aunts discuss the topic and the people who were murdered. I wondered how it could have happened. I have searched for answers ever since. In my quest I try to leave no stone unturned as such a terrible crime deserves a complete and dispassionate understanding. My intention is not to hurt anyone’s feelings only to get closer to the truth. At this point in history, after subsequent genocides which took place after World War II and with the genocidal forces that the State of Israel faces, I would hope that others would be courageous enough to join me in my quest.

April 1, 2013…The man on the street is to be heard nationally now that Chuck Morse Speaks airs on the IRN/USA Radio Network.

Broadcasting live Monday through Friday, from 10 AM to Noon ET, the show debuted on March 11. Station owner Chuck Bates believes "Chuck is a good fit not only for our station, but for America." A self-described genuine, god-fearing Jewish right-wing conservative, Morse hopes to bring the issues of the day into full view, unclouded by the "tyranny of political correctness."

The format is traditional talk radio with lines open for live callers. Guests who have appeared on with Chuck Morse in the past include the late former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger, former Attorney General Edwin Meese, Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, Noam Chomsky, U.S.District Court Judge Harvey Wilkinson, Gloria Steinem, Geraldo Riviera, Ann Coulter and the late Howard Zinn. All political candidates local and national, including the obscure ones, are invited to the microphones to spar with Morse.

A graduate of the school of hard knocks, Morse considers himself a self-educated thinker, able to provide a forum for creative thought and opinions. Having worked as a cab driver, waiter and loading dock laborer, Morse has a deep respect for working people and the voice of the street. Morse, who as a congressional candidate in Massachusetts experienced politics on the other side of the microphone, attracts an intelligent and thoughtful audience of informed people hungering for the truth. Spring’s coming. Get ready for Israeli Apartheid Week on campuses across the nation.

Locally last week, Harvard University got off to an early start: the college’s Palestine Solidarity Committee placed mock eviction notices on students’ doors, warning students that their rooms were “scheduled for demolition in the next three days.” This was then likened to “the unlawful displacement of Palestinians.”

That little psychodrama is just the preliminary to a full program that will include anti-Israel films, the construction of an “apartheid wall” in the Science Center Plaza, and a talk by MIT Professor Noam Chomsky, a Hezbollah supporter who just may be the American Jew most proud to be ashamed that he’s a Jew.

At Northeastern University, where Professors Denis Sullivan and Shahid Alam have proudly been working for decades to foment hatred of Israel (seewww.shameonneu.com), the schedule is even more fulsome: From March 11 through March 15, students will be shown two anti-Israel propaganda films, one even narrated by Alice Walker, author of “The Color Purple.” There will be a mock checkpoint constructed on the Centennial Commons, and all week long there will be a lighted sign flashing: “End Israeli Apartheid.”

Northeastern President Joseph Aoun, who has finally come under pressure to do something about his radical, anti-Israel/ anti-Semitic Professors, might find it useful now to emulate Jason Kenney, the Canadian Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, who condemned Israeli Apartheid Week as simple anti-Semitism. Aoun, who is Christian Lebanese, surely knows that Middle East Christians are the ones suffering from something pretty close to apartheid – in every one of the lovely Arab-dominated states they nervously inhabit. Condemning the lie about Israel, while outing the real oppressors would be a double mitzvah. True, he’d have a tenured tantrum on his hands. Meanwhile, the silence of those involved with the Jewish Studies Program there continues to astonish.

At Boston University, there will be a sham conference on “The Right of Return.” Several scholars who oppose the idea that Palestinians in vast numbers should be allowed to flood into Israel, thereby extinguishing the Jewish State, have submitted proposals to give papers. As of this writing, the “conference” conveners have not responded to any of them, so any pretense that their panel is “academic” is a farce. It’s just more political theater.

So, what do we do about all this? The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has said it is “outraged” by the Harvard eviction notices. Nice, but then what?

I attended a workshop last week at the mammoth, yearly American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Policy Conference which addressed the surge of anti- Israelism on the campuses. The two speakers representing Jewish organizations that work on campuses came to promote what has become the Jewish Establishment’s only acceptable strategy: It’s called “retail engagement.” Responding to anti-Israel activity publicly with counterarguments, they say, has been shown to be ineffective. “Debate,” they argue, “has no audience.” A better approach is to get to know other students personally, especially student leaders, to build relationships with them, to “make friends, not arguments.”

Much of this makes sense. Cold facts and logic don’t win over most people. So much of politics is personal. Being popular and playing on emotion is often key. This sort of engagement is clearly necessary – but why would anyone think it’s sufficient to win? Isn’t the other side much larger? Can’t they reach out to more leaders? To be truthful – aren’t they often more charming?

And don’t they have a big advantage? In our leftist-dominated culture, which is obsessed with victimhood, the other side continually offers students what seems the high moral road: a victimhood campaign. In a low-information age, a picture of an Israeli tank next to a Palestinian child is enough to set people’s judgment against us, sometimes for good.

Our problem is that they lie. Another reason that “retail engagement” alone won’t win is that there is something more emotionally powerful than personal friendships at stake: In our world, people see themselves as good and moral people if they are for the underdog and against oppression. If pro-Israel students, no matter how engaging, are seen to be supporting a cause that people fear taints them morally, friendship with charming Zionists will not often prevail.

No, friendship is not the magic bullet. To win, Jewish students will have to do harder things: They have to recapture the emotional argument that counts most: Not that we are individually nice people, but that Israel is a decent nation that is being lied about. Jews are being victimized. That is the central truth of the matter but it exists now as the elephant in the PR room.

Winning people to this central truth – that they are lying about us – means that pro-Israel students are going to have to do something the Jewish Establishment tells them not to do: They are going to have to call the campaign of lies what it is. They are going to have to talk to their friends about the people who are doing the defaming. They are going to have to “go negative.” What we face is more than a social popularity contest – it’s a political/ ideological war. Surely we know by now that it will take more than being charming if we mean to win.

It is time Jewish students stopped crowing that gays can march in Tel Aviv and started calling the propaganda crusade against us what it is: Bull! Lies! A hoax! The most inconvenient truth for our adversaries is that the horrors the Arab/Islamic world has falsely charged against Israel are things they have actually done themselves – and are still doing – while the “human rights” world keeps relatively mum.

Land theft? The Arab world started out in Arabia and conquered the rest by jihad. Cruelty? Take a look at how women are treated, at how Sunnis treat Shias and vice versa. Is it now 70,000 or 80,000 dead in Syria? How many black slaves serve Arab masters across Arab North Africa?

Apartheid? Jewish students should say: “Glad you brought that up. Because if you are truly interested in institutionalized subjugation in the Middle East, then talk to Simon Deng, an African who was enslaved by Arabs in Sudan; or to Mohammed Yahya, an African Muslim from Darfur, whose people are being massacred by Arabs for resisting Arabization; or to Caroline Doss, a Christian women from Cairo, whose people shiver to think what may soon happen to them because of the wonderful Arab Spring. (They’re all available.) Apartheid in the Middle East is not about Israel at all. That’s a scam. The real apartheid is in the Arab/Islamic states.

If pro-Israel students can convince their classmates that anti-Israelism is based on lies (inversions, actually), Israel might just win on campus. Sure, it helps if pro- Israel students are likable, but only if they have the courage to state the truth – and the wisdom not to listen to their establishment “leaders” – might their efforts be decisive.

Meet Ben Hecht, Wisecracking Jewish Hero

February 28^th marks the 119^th birthday of Ben Hecht, the wisecracking genius who invented the screwball comedy and gangster movie, and who raucously upheld the honor of American Jews in WWII.

Blasted into history from a more colorful age, Hecht began his career as a circus acrobat and virtuoso violinist, then seamlessly morphed into Chicago's star crime reporter and the most successful screenwriter in Hollywood history.

I love Hecht for the feast of intelligent entertainment he seemed to effortlessly concoct, from Hitchcock masterpieces like Notorious andSpellbound to Scarface, The Front Page, and the uncredited script of Gone With the Wind.

But I adore Ben Hecht for the incorruptible courage with which he championed the dying Jews of Europe, appalling his fancy Hollywood and New York Jewish friends with his outré chutzpah.

Hecht throbbed with fury at the Germans' murder of "a whole continent" of Jews. His heart, he wrote, "has not wept at all. It has felt only outrage. I doubt if any man has ever felt more."

Passionately, Hecht applied his whirlwind mind to pleading for the rescue of Europe's last Jews, a task he likened to sticking his head into the mouth of a lion. The American Jewish establishment, personified by the self-satisfied Rabbi Stephen Wise, battled him at every turn.

Ben Hecht's fearless antics for his own people would be unusual in any age, but Rabbi Stephen Wise is a familiar contemporary character. Rabbi Wise deeply relished his personal relationship with Franklin Roosevelt. And he refused to jeopardize it by anything so unsporting as asking the president to take action on behalf of his murdered brethren. To speak as a Jew for Jews would render him un-American, Wise feared.

I can see Hecht grinning at this week's pathetic headline, so redolent of Rabbi Wise's cringing: Jewish leaders called to stop opposition to Hagel for Secretary of Defense.

"I was called by major Jewish leaders, personally called, and [they] told me to stop our campaign against Hagel," Morton Klein, president of Zionist Organization of America, told the Jerusalem Post. Klein explained that the Jewish organizations are "frightened of making an issue seem more important to Jews than others," because making it a "Jewish issue" is "bad for the Jews."

Chuck Hagel is a dim-witted, vicious anti-Semite who rails against the "Israel lobby," accuses Israel of keeping "Palestinians caged up like animals," gives anti-Semitic speeches sponsored by Iranian-controlled front groups, and refuses to disclose his ties to Arab organizations. Hecht would have had his number and that of John Brennan, Obama's CIA Chief nominee, who insists on referring to Jerusalem by its Arabic name Al-Quds.

"The long practiced murder of Jews en masse...has not served to alarm our humanists," wrote Hecht in 1943's Guide for the Bedeviled. "To them the murderers of Jews are never murderers. They are misguided patriots, misinformed economists, misdirected pietists...The murder of Jews is like the stealing of nickels. It does not fix a criminal record on its perpetrators."

Hecht was allergic to the political correctness of his day, blasting his accusations at Germans, not Nazis, refusing to acknowledge a difference between the two. I doubt he would have much patience for today's Jewish leaders who tremble behind convoluted locutions of "terrorists" and "radical extremists," instead of clearly calling out Muslims for centuries of violence against Jews.

What did Hecht accomplish with his flaming wartime editorials, screaming full-page newspaper ads, and sold-out, star-studded 1943 Madison Square Garden "pageant," We Will Never Die, which commemorated two million murdered Jews?

If in the words of a famous Jewish teaching, "He who saves a single life, it as if he saved a whole world," then Hecht helped to save 200,000 worlds. Hecht worked closely with Peter Bergson (pseudonym of Hillel Kook), a Zionist activist who came to the US to whip up political support for rescuing Europe's Jews. Many historians credit their partnership with creating the public pressure that finally convinced Roosevelt to establish the War Refugee Board in 1944.

Although the Board's director acknowledged its activities were "little and late," the WRB offered crucial aid to Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg's rescue of thousands of Hungarian Jews. All in all, historians estimate the War Refugee Board saved as many as 200,000 lives.

After the war, Ben Hecht, once again, proved himself the indispensable man. Ignoring the timid tut-tutting of the Jewish establishment, Hecht threw himself into rescuing Holocaust survivors from displacement camps in Europe and sneaking them into British-controlled Palestine. His pageant, A Flag is Born,stirred American sympathy for the creation of Israel. Peter Bergson's Committee used the funds raised by Hecht's pageant to buy a ship that brought Jewish refugees to Palestine. The British captured it, but the S.S. Ben Hecht was eventually reborn as the first ship of the brand-new Israeli Navy.

Whenever I ponder the mystery of Ben Hecht's unique effrontery, I return to his off-hand comment that he was somehow born without the fear of what other people think of him. Even the British boycott of his films failed to deter him. "An empire hitting at a single man and passing sanctions against him!" wrote Hecht. "There was something to swell a writer's bosom and add a notch to his hat size."

Ben Hecht died in New York City in 1964 at age 70. We need his spirit with us now, as our world darkens with violence, anti-Semitism, and threats of nuclear genocide.

And here he is, calling to us from his 1940 Hitchcock film, Foreign Correspondent: "Keep those lights burning, cover them with steel, build them in with guns, build a canopy of battleships and bombing planes around them and, hello, America, hang on to your lights, they're the only lights in the world."
