I'm hopefully FINALLY back after such a long hiatus. I know most of you must have gone into slumberland and forsaken me for committing such one of the greatest offense in blogging - not updating consistently. And for that, I apologize.

Previously, I was in a dilemma on whether to continue with this blog as I'm already pretty detached from school and am unable to provide any news. However, I've decided to stick around, just for now, so that I've an avenue to practice my writing. As my recent SAT score and diagnostic tests tell me, I really do SUCK at writing. Period. That's probably why I should start blogging away. At the very least, I get some writing done, even if it may be in such informal tone or lacking in structure or even rid with verbosity. At least I'm practicing, and if I may slowly try to consciously stray away from the mistakes that Mrs. Khor has pointed out months ago, I MIGHT just achieve the breakthrough that she foresees.

For now, this blog would serve more as an educational blog. It would document my experience of studying in INTEC, UiTM under the American Degree Foundation Program. I'll also be posting up information and links regarding the US applications, which is what I'll be going soon in just a few months. This doesn't stray that far from my original theme of this blog. Form 5 Chung Ling Kias will be able to know more about their choices once they leave school, and those who want to go US will be able to know what's required to go there after graduating from Chung Ling.

These will be my current short term goals. As Mrs. Khor aptly put it, there are dreams, and then there are goals ( the achievable ones) So I shall focus on the ones that I think is most achievable in the near future, rather than daydreaming about how to transform this blog into the blog for everything Chung Ling.

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

No link to check the results when it's like 8 pm already!? I suppose JPA is reminding us all patience is a virtue. Darn!

Update 3: They just pushed back the time 2 hours till 5pm. Darn. But anyhow, 2 hours is no difference compared to how long we have waited. All the best again people!

Update 2: It's official! JPA results will be out on the 8th of May, 3 pm!! Fingers crossed people! All the best!!

Word is out that the JPA results will be out on the 6th of May. That's right, 2 more days from now! That's a full week earlier than what they told us. This news came from a person from recom who got this reply after emailing JPA:

Siti Zaharah Omar
Unit Penawaran Latihan Dalam PerkhidmatanBahagian Pembangunan Modal Insan,
JPA

A quick check at the jpa site showed that the date was still the 3rd week of May, so I suppose they have yet to update. Others who called or emailed got another date - 8th of May. Suffice to say, due to the registration for Matrikulasi falling on 11th May, it'd be safe to say that all shall be known by the end of this week. Fingers crossed people and good luck!

Update 1: Guess it's not 6th after all. A quick check now (10.20 pm Tues) shows no news. Website still not updated regarding the date so I'm not too sure what the date will be. My money's on the 8th though. That's the latest they can afford to announce as Form 6 and Matrikulasi both start next mon.

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

While this year we do not have the honours of a National Top Scorer, who, if I remember correctly, managed to secure an immediate offer to MIT (wow!), 12 of our students scored a perfect CGPA 4.0 to top Penang! Among the main 'rivals' beaten include Chung Ling Butterworth (9 students), Jit Sin (OMG!) (6 students) and Penang Chinese Girls' High School (5 students). Unbelieveable eh? We've all seen the past results where in some years, less than 10 people score 1A out of like 500 students taking it. Some will probably have been told by their teachers that 85 is the minimum for an 1A. Some like me will probably know that sometimes that's not true as SOMETIMES, they RAISE IT UP TO 90! Of course, some of you will say that not everyone is currently worried about Chinese as it's not THAT difficult to score a pass. But hey, those who ARE worried, are obviously those who are aiming and praying hard for an 1A.

Well, if you're in this unfortunate situation, fret not. I have some good news to cheer you guys up. From what I've heard from a teacher who is a marker, the marking scheme was surprisingly lenient! Yes, you heard me right. LENIENT! I suppose that is not really THAT surprising coming after last year's shockingly difficult paper not to mention uber-strict marking scheme especially in the summary part.

Let's hope that there will be more 1As coming this coming Thursday. Fingers crossed!

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

SPM results will be out on the 12th of March (next Thursday)

The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Agama
Malaysia (STAM) results will be released on March 12.

Students would be able to obtain the results after 10am
from their respective schools, said Education director-general Datuk Alimuddin
Mohd Dom.

“Private candidates will receive their results through
the post,” he said in a statement yesterday.

A total of 442,936 students sat for the SPM examination,
while 6,240 students sat for the STAM papers last year

~ The Star, 6th March 2009

That's less than a week more to go! Gosh! This is getting terrifying. After all, this IS a make-or-break-it result. A miss in an 1A can potentially spell disaster for any local scholarship. It's an open secret that the first main criterion to filter candidates is the SPM results, with the other criterion like co-curricular activities, performance in interviews, personality traits, etc. coming after that. JPA for instance requires a minimum number of As and 1As for certain subjects, which I think are Moral, Bahasa Malaysia and Sejarah. So yes, one's future does hang in balance with this results.

I suppose most of my fellow students are trying very hard to ignore this piece of news and not think about it, but the truth is, who can? We're all shivering in fear, dreading to know the results, yet at the same time, wishing the wait would be over. Ironic, but true. But of course, time flies by at its constant speed, unhindered by our fears nor hurried by our excitement.

Sometimes, the wait is worse then the conclusion. But at least, that's what I hope it turns out to be.

ps. Will be updating once the results are out. Do tune in to see if I survive 'Judgement Day'. Or how Chung Ling fares in this time around. Will a full pass be obtained? Will we triumph over our 'old rivals'? Or will it be another round of 'slaughtering'?

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

Wait a minute, scrap that. Last I checked, my last post was about a month ago, so I suppose the correct word should be verging on giving up on blogging. It has indeed been getting harder these past few weeks for me to just log in and type something up compared to the past year, and even more so when I was in Form 4. I guess it's perhaps because I don't really have much of a subject to blog about. This blog was after all set up to be all about Chung Ling and now me being an ex-student makes me less-informed about the happenings in Chung Ling. Like any hobby, it requires a certain passion, a motivation to say the least to keep things moving. In this case, I suppose the motivation has certainly dimmed quite a bit since I started this blog two years ago.

Some have asked me the question of what shall I do with this blog now that it has basically, put crudely, run out of its use? I've yet to decide on it, but I can surely see the effects of losing a main subject to write about. I suppose with anything treasured, one feels a certain attraction that makes it hard for us to just throw it away and forget about it. Nor is it any easier to change it to something else, even for a logical reason.

I shall keep this blog the way it is now, at least for now, until I figure things out. It's after all a culmination of two years of work. I have to admit that I do feel a very strong connection with Chung Ling. It's hard to explain, how Chung Ling is any different from other secondary schools, but I'm sure it's one view that is resonated by so many others considering how strong our alumni is. So indeed, this blog does whole a special place in my heart. It is after all the very first blog that has managed to stay alive for 2 years (a long time considering that my previos blogs all lasted just a few months) and it's a blog about Chung Ling! What more can I say?

And there's another reason for not giving up on this blog. You subscribers did not give up on me even though I didn't blog for a whole month! And what's more, traffic has not really dwindled to the excruciating 20 views per day (even if most of the traffic are from the search engines),so I suppose there are still quite a number of people reading my blog, albeit not a traffic most bloggers would consider successful, but, at least I still get traffic!

This shall not be the end of Chunglingstudent.com!!!

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

It's being organised by our alumni of year 1975/77 but it's being dubbed as a 'thousand people event", so I suppose all students & alumnis who are interested are invited. It's also coincidentally the 78th anniversary of our alumni. Anyways, do check it out if you chung ling kias are free tonight. I'm sure outsiders are welcomed to. Just say you're related to a Chung Ling Kia and you should have your free dinner. xD!

*Disclaimer: I am in no way responsible for any losses be it physical or mental if you happen to be kicked out.

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

Just finished first week in college, and man, it's really tiring. We've got class from 8am - 6pm, though of course, it's not a full stretch of 10 hour classes. Thank goodness. There are breaks in between, and a 1-hour lunch break, though still, I still have to be there from morning till evening. What to do, no car and no license yet. Even with a 3-hour break also no where to go. But anyhow, my schedule isn't THAT tight compared to those taking Further Maths as the 5th subject, though they sure don't have a calender as FULL as mine, with 3 examinations coming in May.

I'm currently taking A-Levels in Penang, a decision which I will blog about later. I know, it isn't the best college, and it sure isn't the cheapest, so why go? After all, why not KL? Why not out of Malaysia? But anyhow, I've made my decision and I'm staying there. I've got a total of 4 subjects, including the compulsory subject - General Paper, so my timetable isn't that full yet.

The one reason we've got to study that long is due to the Ministry of Education making a few subjects compulsory for all college students in Malaysia, so it doesn't matter where I go, so long as I'm studying Pre-University courses in Malaysia, I've got to study them. There are Bahasa Malaysia, Pendidikan Moral and Malaysian Studies. Most won't be studying BM, as one gets credited with just a credit in SPM. The darn thing is to be trapped again with two of my hated subjects when I thought I would be free after SPM. And not just study them, we also have to sit for exams!! I mean, what's the point in studying those two? I'm sure the Ministry can come up witha long list of 'logical' explainations, but what the heck, can they come up with 1 realistic answer? It has no effect on your A-levels results, save for the fact that if you fail, you'll have to resit it again. It's really so frustrating. But oh well, what to do, Malaysia mah.

Oh, and you know the funniest thing about these 2 subjects? There are actually called LAN subjects. Yes, I'm not joking. LAN-SUBJECTS!! And it's a real acronym!! It stands for Lembaga Akreditasi Negara or in English, Malaysian Quality Assessment (MQA). And I'm sure most Malaysians should know what LAN stands for right? A clue to those who don't, it's actually a crude word in Hokkien. And like all crude word, if it ain't a verb, it's a noun, and this is a noun. LOL!! Man, what a way to show one's displeasure at these subjects. Wonder who realised this in the first place, or better still, who came up with the malay version in the first place!!

Anyhow, the groups for tutorials and lab is already out and I should know it by next week. So by then, I should have finalised my timetable. Hopefull, there won't be classes starting at 8 and those ending at 6 everyday. If so, I probably won't survive the 2nd week in college.

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

But yes, this post is about plurk. And no, I'm not really going to go into detail what plurk offers, as I've said, this is no advertorial. Rather, I'm just trying to inform you all that when I'm not blogging (which is sadly becoming my frequent...my apologies), I'd probably have plurked on that day. After all, there's the darn karma system that 'forces' one to plurk everyday, and then there's the 140-word limit that basically makes plurking simple and easy. It takes not much effort to coining 140 words compared to drafting out a full-blown blog post. So, when I'm not blogging, I probably have plurked already, so you can always check out my plurk section on the bottom right of this blog whenever you visit, just so you can check in on what I'm doing.

To sum it all up, I'm just saying that no blog updates doesn't mean there isn't any updates on this blog (this is addressed especially to my subscribers, whom I offer my sincerest apologies on the lack of blog posts in the recent few months). So please do check in from time to time. Silent Night for Eve...Literally

Merry Christmas people! So how was your Christmas? Good? Fun? How about Christmas eve? Party like mad? Woke up today with a darn hangover, drowsy eyes, and a painful migraine? Mine was as usual, stuck at home throughout silent night, and it sure was silent night, literally. All quiet here in my housing estate. I suppose everyone was out for parties or countdowns. Too bad, not a big fan of those really crowded place.

Anyways, here's a Christmas picture to get you all into the holiday spirit, stolen, all thanks to Google, xD. And remember to have fun during this holiday season. After all, when it all ends comes the new year, school for children, work for adult, and the vicious cycle continues on and on. So enjoy what little time to fun you have now. Cheers!!

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

There has been lots of confusion over the date, with many different dates coming from many different sources. Anyways, the latest date is the 30th of December (at least according to the Star). So fret not people, you all have one more week to mentally prepare for D-Day.

The Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) results will be released next Tuesday, Dec 30. Education director-general Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom will give the analysis of the results in Putrajaya at 9am on the same day.

Students can also collect their results from their respective schools from 10am.

2 years ago I wasn't in Penang when the results came out. Back then I think it was just after Christmas. So I however can't really comment on how the entire results day goes, but suffice to say, like all days where one's life hangs in the balance (figuratively speaking, and mostly only for Form 3s, you guys won't be fretting over this at all once you get pass this stage and go to SPM, that's where the real fun starts...xD), it is as stressful as it can be. And like any result day, it'll end in tears. Yes, tears, or at least figurative tears (like how can chung ling kias cry right?), be it tears of sadness, joy, or relief. And like every PMR result day, it'll be forgotten the following year, as the preparation towards SPM sweeps the memories of PMR into the far flungs of one's memories. The joy of a straight A result diminishes, relegated only a passing mention in one's resume a few years down the road; the shattering disappointment of Bs, Cs taper off with the passing weeks and months, and with it comes the realisation that it won't have any lasting effect on one's future life, save for that little black blotch in one's academic history that anyone rarely notices. That is what that await you Form 3s on the 30th of December. So lose no sleep over this date, worry over it not, for it shall come and pass like any other day, and wake up the following day with it being a distant memory.

And oh, one last thing, good luck to all of you. Even though I said how all this will end up to be just a passing memory, I know how it was before to be obsessing over this date, feeling the stress and loss of sleep, and I know one needs all the luck one can get, especially with our Malaysian examinations. After all, you never know if your exam paper fell into the river while being transported to Sarawak, or if a robber robbed the marker's car containing your papers. Ah well, that is another tale itself.

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

Guess I should have read the fine print. I just found out that the flickr only allows you to view up to 200 pictures only if you're using the free account. Come on, only 200 pictures? I'm not a heavy photo-taker, but even I have more than 200 pictures. What are they trying to do? Oh yeah, force you into paying for the pro account which costs $24.85 per year. I know it's not that expensive, but being a student means not really having the option of spending as freely as I would hope to, and there is the economic crisis worldwide. This is after all, a non-essential expenditure.

It's not only the 200 picture limit that is so annoying, a few weeks ago, I also found out that they only gave you 100mb of bandwidth per month. At an average of 1 mb per photo (I'm not really much of a photographer), that's just 100 pictures per month. But oh wait, you can only store up to the most recent 200 pictures. So that's just 2 months worth of bandiwdth. And yes, I know they claim that they still store your older pictures, but hey, what's the use if you can't excess them? Unless of course you upgrade to a pro account, which is exactly what they want. Yes, yes, I know, nothing in this world comes free, so I suppose they would want to charge people for their bandwidth. It after all costs money, and giving away things free is not business, that's charity (not that charity is totally free, but that is another story for another post).

I'm considering moving my pictures to be stored google's picasa web albums. For one, there is storage of up to 1 gb, which is about 1000 pictures for me, far more than that stingy Flickr which offers only 200 pictures. There is no limit to the number of pictures, save for the 1 gb limit (unless of course there is yet another fine print I have not read). So for now, I'm moving those pictures I have yet to upload to picasa web albums. And of course, if I do run out of space, it's a simple matter of registering for another account, right? Unless of course someone out there knows a better image hosting site that offers far greater storage and less restrictions for free.

So, what do you guys use? Flickr? Picasa web albums? How good are those that you are using currently? Please do comment. Seriously want to find one that fits what I want, which is about 200mb of bandwidth per month and no limitation on number of pictures stored and of course, it must be free(basically if flickr scrapped their 200 picture limitation, I wouldn't have complained so much and would have stuck on with flickr.) Oh well, I guess I'm the one being stingy, after all, nothing comes free. More will be coming soon. For now, it's just Day 1. There isn't many, after all, half the day was spent on the plane. The pictures are unfortunately without any details. There were so many places that I visited (after all, I traveled almost around the entire Taiwan island, and this is a holiday, not a study tour), but fret not, I'll try my best to track down the details.

Taiwan Trip Day 1 Pictures

Update: Taiwan Trip Day 2 pictures are also up! Guess what, finally getting on some holiday action. Ya, will be flying to Taiwan for one week. This probably means no updates for one week, unless of course I'm suddenly that hardworking to schedule posts, or, if I suddenly find internet connection in Taiwan. I know, this blog is already in a dire state, and no more updates for one week? Visitor count is close to an all time low (though not as low as I started out) and I admit, there's not been much content to attract many visitors to this blog. Sigh. Yes, this blog is in a dump.

But fret not, I've given some thought to this matter and have come up with some ideas. Will be updating later when I come back from Taiwan.

Till then, have fun guys, and happy holidays!!

...and oh, please do support this blog by dropping by once in a while, won't you? xD

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

Reality still hasn't set in that it'd be one of my last few visits to my beloved alma mater, so nostalgia hasn't kicked in yet. Still, it was nice to see many familiar faces, although it was really just a short visit to school.

So, what were the important documents? First up is of course our High School Leaving Certificate, which is the culmination of our 5 years here in CLHS. Some will however not be receiving it, which if I remembered correctly, adds up to more than 2 classes out of the 14. (This was something i was supposed to blog about but didn't, but just a short note, some were unable to graduate due to either poor results in 3 languages, math and science or poor conduct).

Next up is our record of co-curricular activities, which basically lists down all our highest posts in co-curricular bodies and our highest achievements. Then we have our testimonial, which even though is written down as principal's report, is really written by our form teacher. As usual, it is of course human nature that teachers are 'obliged' to paint a bright picture of each student, as opposed to hurtling out the blunt truth. We've had our share of laughs (inside jokes) and one of us quibbed that he couldn't recognise himself if he rest his testimonial just by itself.

After that is our forecast results, which many will be needing for scholarships and college applications. I was a bit surprised with mine, notably 2 being above my expectations and the other a disappoiting blow, though suffice to say, it's all As. Next is a summary of our co-curricular marks which is actually added up to our final results. An interesting note is that the once unattainable holy grail of 100 marks seemed to be achieved by quite a number of students. Suffice to say, there must be some strategy being employed here.

Next up are the certs of all our course work for SPM, which includes moral project, english oral, Bahasa Malaysia Oral, Physics Chemistry Biology PEKA and Additional Mathematics Project. And then it's our final results, the last one we'll ever receive from Chung Ling, unless of course one is planning to come back for Form 6. Those who applied for the excellent achievement in co-curricular activities award and succeded in getting it will have their certs clipped together with the entire bundle.

So there you have it, a list of all the important certificates and documents one receives at the end of a seconday education here in Chung Ling High School. Today marks the second-last official date I'm required to go back to school. The last one would of course be when our SPM results are released, which wouldn't be until a few months later.

Updates will be coming soon, though the frequent visits of procrastination the devil himself might jus slow things down a bit. Till then, don't forget to Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed!!

Yes, I'm aware that I'm totally unprepared for this SPM. So with that, I'll probably be unable to update my blog till probably after SPM, which for me, ends on the 27th of November. So till then people, have fun, happy holidays and all the best to all Form 5s out there. And oh, do please subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed, I might be gone for a few weeks, but this blog ain't going nowhere. xD!

btw. I've finally graduated! Wohoo!! Lot's of things to update. Pictures will be coming soon. But anyways, I've got an announcement to make first. I've just set up a flickr account for all the pictures for today's graduation ceremony. So this is to all Form 5 Chung Ling Kias: If you have any pictures please upload to this flickr account. The username is : clhsclassof08. Contact me personally for the password. I'm trying to pool together all the pictures into one source, so that it'd be easier for everyone, especially years from now, to refer back to that one source and reminiscent on past memories. It's quite a monumental task, so please help ease it by passing this around if you're a Form 5 Chung Ling Kia. My MSN is hob_lim_zy77@hotmail.com if you want to get the password.

On other matters, I do myself have some pictures, though it'd take some time to sort it out, so unfortunately the updates won't be coming so soon. But all in all, today was an incredible day. A big shout out to all Chung Ling Fifth Formers out there. I know most of you are quite confused with certain parts of the melody, so I've done the initiative of creating this melody according to the score. I'll be posting up the score for those who are interested.

I've noticed a few things while scanning the score. For one, the two words 盈盈 is actually sung ( as opposed to what my friend told me). That part is quite tricky so do take notice. Also, another tricky part would be 景常新.

But of course, who cares for all these minor details right? The most important thing would be singing the last phrase correct! 钟灵有辉光!! (As per usual like our dear school song where the last phrase is sung the loudest.

Anyways, here's the melody. I apologise before hand that it sounds a bit weird. It's actually a Clarinet. But still, I'm sure you can hear the melody quite clearly.

- Subscribe to the Chung Ling Feed -

I'll be uploading the melody and also the score soon (hopefully by tomorrow). This would hopefully help you guys to be able to sing it by next Friday. As you Chung Ling Kias should know, the graduation ceremony is next Friday, with the rehearsal two days before. So try not to miss school on these two days. There were some quite interesting news today from school, so will be updating soon.
