Q: Now that early registration deadlines have passed, it is difficult to find reasonable accomodate near the Hyatt. Any Suggestions?

Q: Does anyone know the distance between the Hyatt and the other off-site hotel that is part of the conference lodging option?
Note from Show Management:
Shuttle service will be provided to attendees staying at the Best Western Penatagon Hotel each morning and afternoon on the main days of the conference (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday).
Inn & & a Hilton that are both an easy walk, not sure if they're part of the conference rate though.

What up. I'm Richard Cox and I'm not a librarian. I'm a library school dropout and a programmer.

What do I do?

Well, lifted from my profile on our libraries web site:

Richard is the Library Webmaster, and participates in Internet and relational database development, graphic design, and Web design and development, as well as outreach to and training for various schools and departments across the UNCG campus. He also assists in network administration duties as needed as a member of the Server Team. He currently chairs the Library's Web development group, and is head of the Web development and campus Web outreach teams, as well as being the team lead for the campus Web3 Project Team and sitting on the campus Web Oversight Committee and Assistive Technology Advisory Board. Like several of his ERIT colleagues, Richard attended UNCG , from where he holds degrees in English and Art. In his spare time, Richard enjoys DIY home-improvement projects, collecting Japanese monster film memorabilia, and dancing like a white boy.

Cox and Kellam begin by describing the planning, development and implementation pushing library content into the Blackboard course management system. Developed by the Electronic Resources and Information Technology Department (ERIT) at the University Libraries, University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), this tool is built around a number of technologies and methodologies, including SOAP web services, ASP.NET, Java, Ajax, and Adobe Flex, enabling the library to provide current, customized links to databases and ejournals at the course level. This application may be the first to integrate library content dynamically into Blackboard at this level and scale.

Hi, my name is Roger Skalbeck. I'm a law librarian at Georgetown Law Library in Washington, D.C. I designed and run the law library's website, and I manage our blog, called Due Process. I have written articles for LLRX.com, I write a column called "Tech Talk" for Law Library Lights and I am on the board of the Law Librarian's Society of Washington, D.C. SnagIt -- Great commercial software for creating screen shots -- it costs money, but the features are very useful
Firebug -- not just for web developers, this is a good tool for editing any code delivered to your browser. Use it to test different typefaces for your site, mock up design choices and so forth.
WatchThatPage -- track changes to pages to know when new content is added
Scribefire (see also: WIndows LiveWriter, Qumana) -- These are free tools that you can use for managing blog content where you don't use the native blog application's editing tools. Scribefire was the tool discussed in the presentation.
GifUP -- a quick and simple way to create animatted GIF files or select Avatars. Not the best for copyright
Zotero -- free tool to manage research and create bibliographies. Great alternative to EndNote or RefWorks. No server version (yet).
TechCrunch and Adobe Media Player (see also: VLC Media ~~Player)~~ Player) -- Tools for obtaining and viewing FLV (streaming flash video format) files, which you currently can't play in iTunes or Windows Media Player

Q: Will CIL2008 sell DVDs containing the conference this year? If so, does anyone know how long they will be for sale? I am coming in April 9th for a post-conference and want to buy one. I bought one when I went to the whole conference in 2006--I just can't remember the details on how I bought the DVD.

~~Someone~~ ~~asked~~ Q: How to track usage of your RSS feeds / XML file when you are using them with Yahoo! Pipes?
A: I'm not a total expert on this, but if you are actually serving up a file, such as an xml file, you can track the number of hits using you server logs, and they will tell you which hits came from Yahoo Pipes (pipes.yahoo.com).
Q: Someone asked how to mashup Google Maps and Yahoo! Pipes!
A: Google Mashup Editor and Yahoo! Pipes: Friend, not Foe
Q: Someone had the great idea of using Google Maps and Yahoo Pipes to take an Excel of, say, conference attendees, and them map their home locations so you can see on a map where they all came from!

Even in an age of Second Life, Facebook and IMing, many people still prefer to learn new things in “First Life,” i.e., the real world. Staff training is something every decision maker wants to offer, but when the budget rubber meets the time-crunched road, are libraries able to make it a priority? This session looks at the options—in-house training programs, elearning, outsourcing—and how the high tech Web 2.0 world can merge effectively with the high-touch needs of most learners. It relates this issue to recent research performed on behalf of WebJunction, which provides a snapshot of the state of staff training in U.S. public libraries, including dollars spent, perceived RIO, and formats offered. Gain insights and facts related to training in libraries and look at the challenges and opportunities offered by new technologies.

The Executive Director performs administrative and professional library work in planning, organizing, and directing the County library program. Working with our Senior Management Team the Director is responsible for:

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a master's degree in Library Science and at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience leading a multi-location system, with a minimum of six years at the administrative level.
