Conference Questions
Q: Now that early registration deadlines have passed, it is difficult to find reasonable accomodate near the Hyatt. Any Suggestions?
A: The Crystal Quarters is offering whole suites with kitchen and laundry right next to Hyatt for $190. See http://www.crystalquarters.com/.
Q: Do library of science students get a discount on the registration fee?
A: There are group discounts which you can find out more by calling Information Today at 1 800 300 9868. In addition, we sometimes have volunteer jobs for library science students. If you are interested in that, please contact Conference Chair, Jane Dysart, at jane at dysartjones dot com
A: Contact the conference organizer, Jane Dysart (jane@dysartjones.com)
A: Cybertour schedule has just been finalized and will be up online shortly. Jane Dysart
Government<del> &</del> & Special Libraries Streams. Thanks.
A: The Government<del> &</del> & Sepcial Libraries streams are just another way of looking at the sessions available at CIL. I pulled out some of the sessions related to the those topics from the already planned tracks just to highlight for our attendees who are interested. The track and session letters are beside the titles and speakers so you should be able to find them in your program. Jane Dysart
Q: Does anyone know the distance between the Hyatt and the other off-site hotel that is part of the conference lodging option?
Note from Show Management:
Shuttle service will be provided to attendees staying at the Best Western Penatagon Hotel each morning and afternoon on the main days of the conference (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday).
Inn<del> &</del> & a Hilton that are both an easy walk, not sure if they're part of the conference rate though.
A: The Courtyard Marriott is right next door to the Hyatt.
Q: Are free exhibit visitor passes available for someone attending with a conference registrant?

This session focuses on successful strategies for experimenting with, trusting, and integrating Web 2.0 tools in an organization’s daily work. It covers marketing strange new tools to an idiosyncratic group of library users with extremely specific needs and whose discipline, art history, has typically relied on more traditional resources. Speakers demonstrate how the library staff quickly adopted Web 2.0 tools, created winning presentations for all museum staff dealing with the relevancy of these tools to scholarly research, the concern with authority and security.

Hi, my name is Roger Skalbeck. I'm a law librarian at Georgetown Law Library in Washington, D.C. I designed and run the law library's website, and I manage our blog, called Due Process. I have written articles for LLRX.com, I write a column called "Tech Talk" for Law Library Lights and I am on the board of the Law Librarian's Society of Washington, D.C. I like palindromes, sushi and German arts and humor.
conference).<del> Despiet</del> Despite some loud microphone feedback, it was (we hope) a lively interactive demonstration of several tools for managing information. We had fun, and we hope to do this type of presentation<del> again.</del> again. Check out this amazing sketch of us to see what we looked like when we presented. (thanks madinkbeard)
Links from: Tech Tools for Effectively Managing Information
Following is a list of the tools we talked about, together with some related links.
WatchThatPage -- track changes to pages to know when new content is added
Scribefire (see also: WIndows LiveWriter, Qumana) -- These are free tools that you can use for managing blog content where you don't use the native blog application's editing tools. Scribefire was the tool discussed in the presentation.
for<del> copyright</del> copyright compliance.
Zotero -- free tool to manage research and create bibliographies. Great alternative to EndNote or RefWorks. No server version (yet).
Camtasia -- commercial software for creating screen demonstrations and interactive training presentations (see also: Wink (free) and Captivate (not free)
TechCrunch and Adobe Media Player (see also: VLC Media Player) -- Tools for obtaining and viewing FLV (streaming flash video format) files, which you currently can't play in iTunes or Windows Media Player
We've also linked these tools, together with related stories and some tools we're not using on this page: http://del.icio.us/tag/cil2008-techtools
