Welcome to the Brewery District in historic Over-the-Rhine. We are residents, business owners, and developers dedicated to making the Brewery District THE place to Live, Work, and Play.

Dubbed “Over-the-Rhine” by German immigrants, the Brewery District was the center of Cincinnati’s rich beer brewing history. At one time the city’s social and economic heart, years of economic decline followed, preserving Over-the-Rhine and its stunning architecture. Today, the largest collection of Pre-Prohibition breweries in the country, along with other historical industrial and mixed use buildings, sits amid the largest collection of Italianate architecture anywhere, befitting one of the most unique urban neighborhoods in the country. In addition to the blocks of historic buildings that comprise Over-the-Rhine, the Brewery District also contains the beloved Findlay Market, which is the state's oldest farmers market.
The Brewery District continues to work to repopulate our neighborhood with visitors, residents, and businesses. We do this with heritage tourism, including festivals like BOCKFEST, the OTR BIERGARTEN, and BREWERY TOURS. We do this with redevelopment guided by our MASTER PLANNING INITIATIVES. Our key initiative, the CINCINNATI BREWING HERITAGE TRAIL, will be a world class urban heritage trail celebrating and sharing our grand brewing traditions with the world. New residential and retail development in the neighborhood, along with the coming streetcar, is poised to make the Brewery District THE premier urban neighborhood in the city.

The Brewery District is home to the largest collection of pre-Prohibition brewery architecture in the country. At one point in the late 1800’s home to over 18 breweries (out of the more than 36 breweries in greater Cincinnati), there are dozens of remaining brewery structures including brewhouses, malthouses, stockhouses, bottling works, stables, and offices.

Many of these breweries are included in one of our tours.

Cincinnati's Brewery District is home to one of the largest collections of pre-Prohibition brewery architecture, in the middle of one of the largest historic districts, in the country. Beer helped build this city, and the stories of those days still resonate today. Let us show you the breweries, cellars, and tunnels that were the heart of Cincinnati's brewing heritage.

Prohibition Resistance: The Industrious Tour
Now - December 2014, Returning April 2015

Offered every Saturday throughout the fall, this one hour walking tour shares the stories of Cincinnati’s industrious brewery workers.

The Industrious Tour starts at the Christian Moerlein Malthouse Tap Room and their historic tap room. Walking through the neighborhood, we'll hear the stories of the workers who made more beer than anywhere else in the country. Guests will visit the new mural celebrating Cincinnati's beer industry, before going deep underground in the historic Schmidt Brothers/Crown Brewery lagering cellars and tunnels, where they will learn how beer was brewed in the days before refrigeration. Returning to the Christian Moerlein Malthouse Tap Room, guests will learn how Cincinnati's industrious nature is returning the spirit to the neighborhood long after Prohibition robbed it.

Please note this is a walking tour through former breweries, and involves walking a few blocks outside and through old buildings.

Ticket price is $15.

Ever thought of growing your own food but didn’t think it was possible? It’s more that possible! It might even be the way of the future. If the Dervaes family can do it while living in Los Angeles, I think you can to.
The Dervaes family live on 1/10th of an acre 15 minutes from downtown L.A.. In itself that’s not strange. What’s crazy is that they manage to maintain a sustainable and independent urban farm. Complete with animals!
In a year they produce around 4,300 pounds of veggies, 900 chicken eggs, 1000 duck eggs, 25 lbs honey, and pounds of seasonal fruit. There are over 400 species of plants. What?! They have everything they need to ‘live off the land.’ From beets to bees. Chickens to chickpeas.
What the family doesn’t eat they sell from their porch, making around $20,000 a year. Local organic food is so popular that they don’t have any problems finding customs. Even chefs from restaurants seek them out.

Northside Farmers Market Offers Variety During Winter Month

FarmersÕ markets are not just for the summer months. If you think that you cannot find fresh local foods in the winter, think again and visit the Northside Farmers Market (NFM) every Wednesday from 4pm-7pm at the North Presbyterian Church, 4222 Hamilton Ave.

Over 20 vendors offer seasonal produce like greens, squash, carrots, potatoes, onion, sweet potatoes, leeks, and more, along with breads and pastries, fermented foods, nuts, mushrooms, meats, cheeses, eggs, soaps, and crafts. This year, NFM proudly includes a selection of vendors selling gluten-free breads, pizza dough, muffins, scones, and other pastries. Shopping at the farmers market allows customers to meet farmers growing food in the region, to taste the flavors of the Ohio Valley, and to support local businesses.

NFM strives to make healthy local foods accessible to everyone. VISA, MasterCard, SNAP Ohio Direction Card, and WIC transactions are accepted at the Market Info booth. In addition, NFM participates in "Produce Perks", a matching funds incentive program which allows low-income individuals to receive up to $10 each market visit for use on vegetable and fruit purchases.

Winter Hike Series Returns
The Winter Hike Series is back this season! Fight that cabin fever by joining one or more of these scenic hikes through different parks. Hikes range from four to 5.5 miles and are on Saturday morning on January 7, 14, 21, 28 and February 4. Registration is required by December 20, so hurry and get your spot!

Birding: Annual Winter Bird Count
Help us gather important information about bird population trends in your Hamilton County parks. The annual Winter Bird Count will be held on December 10 at various locations and will include an official tally at the end of the day. It's free to participate and you need to register by December 8.

Santaland at Holiday in Lights
Holiday in Lights is in full swing! Don't miss this winter wonderland at Sharon Woods with twinkling lights, dancing displays and holiday cheer through December 31. Be sure to stop in Santaland too, where admission is free, and you get to see Santa Claus, Ebenezer Scrooge, Dickens Carolers and enjoy treats and drinks inside Sharon Centre, through December 23!

Do You Have The Skills?
Wilderness Skills that is! Our University of the Great Outdoors staff is offering some pretty informative programs that will help you survive out in nature. Learn everything from carrying survival gear in a bottle to wilderness first aid. Next program is December 10. Registration is required.

It's a Family New Year's Eve Party!
