Hi Cindi!
Our ATHA rug hooking chapter here in Atlanta, GA will be hosting a Hooked Rug Exhibit next spring with workshops and a hook-in tied into the three month exhibit. Was hoping you could post this news on your blog.
The exhibit will be held at the Gwinnet Environmental & Heritage Center just outside of Atlanta. The exhibit runs from April 9 through June 30, 2012.
I have attached our brochure which gives detailed information on the exhibit and how to register for the hook-in and classes offered.

Friday Class gathered around Pat's rug

The past year had been very difficult in many ways. One comfort I found was my rug hooking friends. If you’ve never attended a rug hooking event, you are missing out on the most important part of rug hooking. I’ve had to cancel my studio classes for the past several months. As an excuse to get together, I’ve decided to host a hook-in at my home.

It is Friday, March 2 at 9:00am until about 3:00. Nothing fancy, just rug hooking. No fee, completely free. I’ll have something simple to nibble on. You can bring a lunch or a dish to pass if you want something more substantial. Come all day or just come for a short time. It is up to you. I’d love to see you there.

The studio will be open if you need rug hooking supplies.

Follow my son’s adventure to Hawaii

How often have you thought “I should quit my job and go live on a tropical island?” My son, Bob, is doing exactly that. His long term relationship with his girlfriend has ended and NYC is killing him. He has given notice and will be leaving CBS at the end of January.

He needed some holiday cheer so Ally and I left the day after Christmas armed with leftovers from the holiday meal and a cookie care box from his sister, Jenny. Ally and I spent two days tracking down used book stores in NYC while Bob was working. We met him one day at the end of the day and got a private tour of the CBS shop. He even walked us onto the new CBS morning show set that he had been working on. It was amazing to see what he had been working on.

I have finally convinced him to document his adventure. He has no set plan. He’s going to “go with the flow.” He has a one-way ticket to Hawaii. He has been lining up some odd jobs through Craig’s List to get him started. Luckily, he has experience in fixing or building almost anything. He can do rough or finish carpentry, weld, and paint. What he doesn’t know how to do, he researches and learns. I am amazed at his ability and courage. My great grandparents came to this country in the same way. How many of us could do the same thing?

Rug Hooked Footstool Feet – where to get them

Once you begin hooking on your pattern, order the feet for the footstool so you will have them when your hooking is complete. You can find many sources on the internet. A few are listed below. These feet are 4″ in diameter and 6″ tall which will give you a final footstool height of approximately 16″. They come unfinished and attach by simply screwing them into pre-drilled holes.

I stained mine with Minwax Polyshades. It is a stain and Polyurethane in 1 step. I used several coats. The color I used is Bombay Mahogany Gloss #480, a rich dark color that does not detract from the hooking. I could not find an 8 oz. can this time, which is enough for several stools. The smallest I could find was quart.

You can add a plastic or felt pad on the bottom to protect your floor.

5/8 x 5 Steel Joint Fasteners aka corrugated fasteners
2″ finish nails and hammer
Spray adhesive to attach the foam to the wood
Needle and button hole or hand quilting thread to sew the seams
