Late last week I found out a pair of my Layered Trinity earrings were seen on Law & Order: SVU episode 6, "Broken Rhymes", which aired on November 9th. They are worn by actress Jacqueline Torres as "Nina Carson". Seriously, gave me goosebumps when I found out. Jacqueline definitely made my earrings look so good!!!

Once the ideal size of the piece is all sketched out, I hand draw the images on pliable cardstock and hand cut each piece in various sizes to use as templates. They are formed around my wrist, fingers. I use a mirror to get an idea how the piece will look worn. The templates are also used to create 3D sketches, then photographed and saved. I spend time researching what type of wire (or sheet) I need to actually create each piece. This process can be daunting as I try to determine the thickness and quantity I will need to create all the pieces. Once I receive my everything, the making of the collection begins.

This is a process that can take a while. I often spend a couple of days each week, dedicated to creating the collection. Other times I'll work in between regular orders. Notes are jotted down with measurements, how long it takes to make, supplies I may need that I don't have, etc. After all the pieces are created, my model and set up a photoshoot. During which time helps me see faulty kinks that need to be worked out... how the necklace lays, if the earrings are too long or too small. I can test them out on me, which I always do, but seeing my jewelry on others really makes a difference. Next step, editing photos and reworking a few pieces - or even removing some from the collection gets completed. Then another model reshoot and listing.

For added variety, I've added more options to accent your favorite pendant with multiple chain lengths between 14" to 30". 18" necklace is universally the standard size for most necklaces. Although the chart above acts as a guide, all chain lengths are not created equal. Here are a few tips to determine your preferred length...

• Position a flexible measuring tape or string around your neck to determine your ideal length.
• Depending on your neck size, chains/necklaces hang at different lengths. If your neck measures 14", an 18" chain sits at the base of your neck, (similar to the image above).
• For wider necks, size up and for smaller necks, size down from the standard size.
• Our body types come in different shapes and sizes, wear necklaces that are flattering to your body shape.
• If possible, take a trip to a local boutique and try on a variety of necklaces to determine work length works best for you.

Once you've tried these simple steps, shopping for your favorite necklaces will make accessorizing that much easier. That's the beauty and fun of fashion.

I usually buy sheets of silver or gold metal when necessary. But I have an abundance of scrap metal organized by type in bins. I often rummage through my piles when time doesn't allow for online order and that's when the beauty of recycling comes into play.

Here's a visual to give you an idea of how I incorporate sustainability in all my jewelry...

Now, I can easily just order the sheets from my reputable sources, but when you don't have two days to wait for supplies to arrive or need to prepare for upcoming shows, you do what you've got to do and I enjoy every minute of it.

Next step, invest in a wire roller for rolling out wire... how crazy would that be?

Some earrings are so lightweight, you may forget you are wearing them and can slip out. To prevent this from happening, I suggest using rubber earring backs.. They are an essential staple to your earring collection and provide security.

Here are a few tips in preventing damage to your ear wires...

• Twist the rubber backings while inserting the ear wire. Don't push the ear wire into the rubber backs, this will damage and distort the ear wire's original design and could break.
• Some styles can be a little stiff, continuously squeezing will soften them up.

While, rubber earring backs can be found in most craft stores and online, a complimentary pair will be included with every earring order for your convenience.

We enjoyed delicious food from The Corner Cabinet and the Offcenter Grill during our stay at the historical Yorktowne Hotel. If we had the time, I totally would have done a little shopping at the Central Market, where we enjoyed breakfast Saturday morning. Jammed to some amazing bands who performed during the two day event!! Especially enjoyed the The Urban Gorilla Orchestra and the Boograins bands.

Taking care of your jewelry is very important to maintain their luster and original appearance. Here are a few steps you can follow when caring for your silver jewelry:

• Remove jewelry before applying lotions.
• Avoid wearing jewelry in swimming pools and spa's
• Store jewelry in jewelry box or a small plastic baggie to prevent from tarnishing
• Hang necklaces to prevent twisting, bending and tangling
• Reframe from using commercial grade jewelry cleaners as they do not always restore the silvers sheen and can also damage your silver jewelry.
• If necessary, clean silver jewelry by washing with warm water and a mild soap (note this will remove any original patina at time the piece was fabricated)
• Sterling silver is a soft metal, do not use a regular toothbrush to clean. Instead, try using a soft, non abrasive sponge or an infant toothbrush to remove any grit, dirt or shine up your silver jewelry.

Following these simple steps will keep your jewelry looking new and fresh for a lifetime. If you absolutely can not get the shine back, take your jewelry to a professional jewelry.

Some exciting news to share.... A small handful of Cindy Liebel Jewelry was present at the annual NYC Holiday All-Press Consumer Products Event via the Artisan Group. I am so thrilled to have been able to participate in the annual event held on Wednesday, June 8th. The 4.5 hour event was held at the Morton's Steakhouse in NYC where the press met up to get a sampling of new products for their upcoming editorial gift guides. Press present at the event included Good Morning America TV expert, Fashion Digest, ABC Radio, Focus Magazine, Huff Post, WWD, Energy Times, HI Class Living, News Day, Advice Sisters, to name a few.
