Paramount Pictures enjoyed a $55.0 million debut for its reboot of the “Scary Movie” franchise appropriately titled Scary Movie. This proved more than enough to best the debut of Masters of the Universe which took in $29.3 million for Amazon MGM Studios over the weekend. Meanwhile, last weekend’s top film, Backrooms found itself pushed down to third where it added $25.9 million to lift its two-week total to $135.1 million for A24. Similarly, Focus Features found its Obsession down two spots in fourth place where it brought in $25.6 million to bring its four-week total to $152.1 million. The final debut of the weekend belonged to The Amazing Digital Circus: The last Act, which made $11.6 million over the weekend, giving the film a fifth-place finish.

During its third weekend in release Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu took in $10.0 million, despite founding itself dropped to sixth place over the weekend. The film now lays claims a three-week tally of $155.8 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Meanwhile, Lionsgate also saw its Michael, also drop three spots to seventh place where it took in $7.7 million for the studio, bringing the film’s seven-week total to $354.3 million. Also falling three spots from last weekend, The Breadwinner landed in eighth place this week, where it made $3.4 million for the studio. Focus Features saw Pressure also fall just two spots to claim ninth place with $3.0 million, giving the film a two-week total of $11.2 million. Finally, in its sixth weekend of release, The Devil Wears Prada 2 dropped four spots to finish in tenth place this week, where it added $2.8 million over the weekend to lift its six-week total to $215.1 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

For yet another consecutive weekend, the bottom three films from last weekend’s top ten were pushed out of this week’s list be newcomers. After five weeks in release, The Sheep Detectives has herded a total of $59.4 million for Amazon MGM Studios, but the film couldn’t repeat its eighth-place finish a week ago. Paramount Pictures saw Passenger bring in $17.4 million during its first three weeks in release before bowing out of the top ten altogether. Finally, with a five-week total of $79.1 million, Mortal Kombat II probably didn’t thrill Warner Bros. when it fell out of the top ten this weekend as well after a tenth-place finish seven days ago.

SYNOPSIS: Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (“Ghostface”), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.

SYNOPSIS: After their ship gets caught in a mysterious storm, the PAW Patrol pups crash land on an uncharted tropical island filled with dinosaurs. They meet Rex, a pup who has been stranded on the island for years and has become an expert in all things dino-related. When the PAW Patrol’s archrival, Mayor Humdinger, begins recklessly mining in hopes of exploiting the island for its natural resources, he inadvertently causes a huge, dormant volcano to erupt. The PAW Patrol pups are thrown into a series of high-stakes, dino-sized rescues bigger than anything they’ve done before, as they must stop Humdinger before everything on the island goes extinct.

A new film took control of the box-office weekend top ten as Backrooms debuted in first place $55.1 million ahead of its closest competition.

In its first weekend of release, the A24 picture Backrooms managed to bring in $81.5 million while claiming the top spot of the box-office weekend top ten. This proved more than enough to best second-place finisher Obsession which held its ground from last weekend with $26.4 million, bringing the film’s three-week total to $104.8 million for Focus Features. Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu dropped to third place where it took in only $25.0 million – $57 million less than it brought in last weekend – to bring its two-week total to $137.4 million. Lionsgate saw Michael fall to fourth place as it pulled in $11.7 million to give the film a six-week total of $339.9 million. Sony Pictures Releasing enjoyed a fifth-place debut for The Breadwinner with $7.5 million.

The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures release The Devil Wears Prada 2 fell from fifth to sixth place this weekend where it added $5.9 million to lift its five-week total to $209.4 million. In seventh place, Focus Features enjoyed a $5.8 million debut from Pressure. Dropping three spots to claim eighth place this weekend, The Sheep Detectives made $4.6 million for Amazon MGM Studios as the film’s four-week total rose to $54.5 million. In its second week of release, the Paramount Pictures product Passenger also fell three spots to land in ninth place where it added $2.6 million, bringing its two-week total to $15.3 million for the studio. Finally, after a finish in seventh place a week ago, Mortal Kombat II dropped to tenth place this weekend with $2.0 million in its fourth week of release, giving the Warner Bros. product an overall total of $77.8 million.

Three films were once again forced from the box-office weekend top ten as last week’s eighth- through tenth-place finishers all failed to recapture a spot on this weekend’s list. After an eighth-place debut last weekend, Neon’s I Love Boosters falls out of the top ten with a two-week total of $7.3 million. Meanwhile, the Universal Pictures release, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie managed to bring in a total of $427.1 million for the studio before falling out of the top ten this weekend after a ninth-place finish a week ago. Finally, with $341.3 million earned for Amazon MGM Studios over the last eleven weeks, Project Hail Mary dropped out of the top ten after a tenth place finish seven days earlier.

A new “Full Disclosure” featurette for Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day has just been released. You can check it out below! The film will be in theaters on June 12, 2026!

If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.

Universal Pictures is proud to release a new original event film created and directed by Steven Spielberg. The film stars SAG winner and Oscar® nominee Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place), Emmy and Golden Globe winner Josh O’Connor (Challengers, The Crown), Oscar® winner Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, “Kingsman” franchise), Eve Hewson (Bad Sisters, The Perfect Couple) and two-time Oscar® nominee Colman Domingo (Sing Sing, Rustin).

Based on a story by Spielberg, the screenplay is by David Koepp, whose previous work with Spielberg includes the scripts for Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Combined, those films earned more than $3 billion worldwide. Koepp also wrote the script for this 2025’s Jurassic World Rebirth.

Disclosure Day is produced by five-time Academy Award® nominee Kristie Macosko Krieger (The Fabelmans, West Side Story) and by Spielberg for Amblin Entertainment. The executive producers are Adam Somner and Chris Brigham.

Steven Spielberg is one of the industry’s most successful and influential filmmakers. The top-grossing director of all time, Spielberg has helmed such blockbusters as Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, the “Indiana Jones” franchise and Jurassic Park.

Among his myriad honors, he is a three-time Academy Award® winner, including Oscars® for Best Director and Best Picture for Schindler’s List, which received a total of seven Oscars®, and for Best Director for Saving Private Ryan. His most recent film, The Fabelmans, was released by Universal in 2022 and received seven Academy Award® nominations, including for Directing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Picture.

SYNOPSIS: When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything he cares about. From writer-director John Carney, Power Ballad is a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition.

A new release claimed the top spot of the box-office weekend top ten as The Mandalorian and Grogu debuted in first place $59.6 million ahead of the second-place film, which proved enough to give the latest film in the Star Wars series dominion over the weekend box office prior to the holiday.

In its first weekend of release, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu took control of the box-office weekend top ten, finishing in first place while bringing in a total of $82.0 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Meanwhile, Focus Features enjoyed a jump for Obsession as the film leapt from third to second place where it took in $22.4 million for the studio, lifting its two-week total to $52.8 million. After reclaiming first place week ago, Lionsgate’s Michael dropped to fourth place where it made $20.0 million for the studio to lift the film’s five-week total to $314.2 million. Falling three spots to a fifth place finish this weekend, The Devil Wears Prada 2 brought in $12.6 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, giving the film an overall total of $196.1 million over its first four weeks in release. Holding steady in fifth place, The Sheep Detectives took in $9.0 million to bring the film’s three-week total to $43.5 for Amazon MGM Studios.

Debuting on the top ten in seventh place, Paramount Pictures’ Passenger managed $8.7 million over the course of its first week in release. Warner Bros. saw its Mortal Kombat II fall from fourth to seventh place this weekend where the film managed $6.2 million over the weekend, to bring its three-weekend total of $72.8 million for the studio. Meanwhile, Neon enjoyed an eighth-place debut of $3.7 million for I Love Boosters. After a seventh-place finish last weekend, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie fell two spots to claim ninth place with $3.2 million, bringing the film’s total to $423.6 million for Universal Pictures. Finally, Project Hail Mary fell three spots to land in tenth place this weekend where it brought in $2.7 million for Amazon MGM Studios, lifting the film’s ten-week total to $339.6 million.

Three films fell from the box-office weekend top ten prior to the holiday as last week’s bottom three finishers all failed to crack this weekend’s list. After a two week release and an eighth-place finish last weekend, the fortieth anniversary re-release of Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick brought in a total of $6.4 million for Paramount Pictures. Following its one week in release and a ninth-place finish, In The Grey departs the top ten with a total of $2.9 million under its belt. Finally, the Amazon MGM Studios release of Is God Is managed to bring a total of $4.1 million during its two weeks in release before dropping out of the top ten altogether.

Based on the program The Mandalorian, which has aired on Disney+ since 2019 over three season and eighteen episodes, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu offers an entertaining, and often thrilling experience, that Star Wars fans have been yearning to see for some time now.

Set after the events of the third season of the show, the film begins showing the aftermath of the fall of the Empire. The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu are currently employed by the New Republic to assist with keeping law and order secure within the now turbulent galaxy.

Along the way, both the Mandalorian and Grogu interact with a variety of characters and work their way through a series of mini-adventures as they essentially move through a fourth season of the show truncated into just over two hours of running time. What is most pleasing is how well the world building is handled within the film. Nothing feels overexplained or unnecessarily bogged down with exposition. Everything unfolds organically and in service to the overall story.

Jon Favreau – who served as the showrunner and executive producer of The Mandalorian television program – returns to both direct and co-write the property’s jump to the big screen. As he did with films like Iron Man (2008), Chef (2014), and The Lion King (2019), director Favreau brings kinetic energy to the film while simultaneously allowing the interaction between characters to do most of the heavy lifting for the narrative.

Along with co-writers Dave Filoni and Noah Koor (both of whom had worked with him on The Mandalorian), Favreau treats the film as a sort of existential elongation of the Star Wars saga while still keeping it relatively confined within the space of its current property. This allows the film to fit quite nicely into the whole of the universe without too much effort.

While Pedro Pascal highlights the film as the Mandalorian, the character of Grogu perhaps undergoes the more substantial growth throughout the film. Along with notable work from the likes of Sigourney Weaver as Ward (who serves as the Mandalorian’s point of contact with the Rebellion), everyone involved delivers near perfect performances throughout the film. The heroes are archetypal heroes and the villains, well, they’re more than easy to root against. It all harkens back to the early days of the Star Wars phenomenon when things weren’t as grey as they are perhaps today.

The Mandalorian and Grogu in Lucasfilm’s THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU.
Overall, the film looks as good as any Star Wars film has. The cinematography provided by David Klein feels at home with the best of the films in the series and every aspect of the production seems as though it were put together as a labor of love to not only the show it continues, but the films it honors as well.

After a few missteps, the cinematic path of the Star Wars universe moving forward seems to have been corrected by The Mandalorian and Grogu. The film returns the universe to the swash-buckling thrills of its earliest entries and appears to promise a rewarding future for fans.

A new video for the original song “Hoes” by Lizzo – featuring Sexyy Red – for the upcoming Paramount Pictures’ release Scary Movie has been released (check it out below). The film will be in theaters on June 5, 2026!
