Has anyone else been super-excited to try this new powder by P.F? Lured in by oh-so-cute swirls of pink, yellow, green, and beige that promise to fight all of our discoloration needs? Well, if you're as curious as a chesire cat but reluctant to believe the marketing, I've compiled an in-depth review to (hopefully) ease your mind and show and tell you everything you wanted to know.

Oh-kay, you had me at green. I have super-pink/red skin, especially around my nose and while I love my Luara Mercier green tinted powder, that stuff is pricey and not readily available. Plus, right now you can get the P.F. powder + bonus concealor trio for only $10! That's an actual deal-sometimes "drugstore" cosmetics can get pretty pricey.

Packaging

The packaging for this is genius. I love the lucite case and adorable tri-color half-moon brush. This is one of those items you actually love taking out of your purse. Everything about this is travel friendly, the powder, mirror, and brush are all stored in a snap-tight case, and the concealors snap together fairly securely and are just the right size for purse travel. The only real hang-up in the packaging itself is that the powder gets all over the top lid and looks a little less attractive. For review purposes, I used the Translucent shade.

The real question is whether or not you would actually want to apply this on-the-go or in front of other people (who wants to be watched while they have to blend away streaks or reverse raccoon eyes?), in which case, you're in luck because I'm brave enough to look like crap on the internet on a pretty regular basis in the name of fair reporting.

Just kidding. Kind of...

On to the brush itself. I know, this is the part you've been dying for. Not literally I hope, but between us, this is one of the man reasons I "had to have" this compact. I've been wanting to try a half moon brush and the colors are neopolitian-alicous.

But there's a catch, if you want to see how it looks you'll have to keep reading ahead!

*Application*

Okay, now on to the fun stuff. I'm going to do two different applications, one with both items in the set, and one with only the powder so you can see the differences in coverage. I'm hoping this will give a true showing of the coverage this provides, and who wants to do all the steps all the time anyways?

Pre-Application

Bonus Concealors

Step 1-Yellow

These P.F. concealors come with sponge tip applicators, and pick up a lot of product. They blend in to skin fairly well though, with minimal line settling. They are very thick and dry quickly so work fast and blend, blend, blend!

Actually, the yellow wasn't as extreme as I thought it would be. Even though I have more purple toned eye circles, I thought this did a good job of brightening up my eyes. I think I should have used a little less product, but I was really surprised by the full coverage.

Step 2-Beige/Natural Light

This is supposed to be the "regular" concealor in the set. It's meant to be applied directly over the yellow and anywhere else you want coverage. This was just a little off for my skin tone, but not by much. I was actually a little surprised that this was a pretty close match.

As you can see, it did cover up the yellow. I didn't like the feel of the layers though, it felt a little thick and tugged at the skin under my eyes when I tried to apply it over the yellow. It was just a little more noticable than the pictures show, but once again it gave full coverage. I think it did a really great job of covering up my dark circles and blemishes. Also, the more you layered it, the more visible the product was.

Step 3-Pink

Don't go to closely by the picture on this one, it really looks much pinker in person. This has a good amount of shimmer to it, and is the trio's highlighter.

The highlighting on this was so subtle, I'm not sure if I really saw any difference. But at least I didn't end up with a face full of glitter.

All in all, the concealors offer thick coverage but for some reason they made my skin burn. I'm not sure how this happened, since they are supposed to be hypoallergenic, but something in this really irritates my skin.

Powder + Concealers

As you can see, there's a clear stripe of product when you first apply. The brush is a little stiffer than I'd imagined it would be; it's a little scratchy on my face but it's not harsh.

To just a clear idea of coverage, the right half of my face is completely bare. You can really tell the difference, but the powder is a little noticable. I wouldn't exactly describe it as "cake free".

This stuff photographs fantastically, it in fact looks better in photographs than real life. I found the application to be a little cakey, very noticable that I was wearing powder. I couldn't get a close up picture to turn out with my camera to show this though. :(

Bare-Face + Powder

I swear, looking at myself in the mirror I could see almost no difference in my skin. While I could see the powder and my red spots were a little lessened, I wasn't that impressed. However, in this photograph it looks pretty darn good!

Full face coverage sans concealer trio; I liked this better since I prefer an almost natural look.

I wasn't real impressed with this powder over-all for a few reasons. My biggest problem with it was that the powder just sat on top of my skin looking pretty noticable. Despite the heavy look of the powder, my face was left still shiny looking. In natural lighting I didn't see the pretty, even coverage that came through in the pictures.

Despite my attachment to the clear lucite case and artsy brush, I disliked having to wipe all the excess powder off the lid and my arm. This stuff is m-e-s-s-y, it spreads everywhere! I took a pic of what happened to my arm in just 2 swipes and had to share it.

It's no match for my beloved Erno Laszlo duo-phase powder, nor my d.s. (drugstore) standby Almay. I wouldn't wear it for everyday, but however I think it makes a fabulous powder for photographing.

Despite it's photo-merits, I don't really want to clutter up my makeup bag with something I'll only use once in a great moon, I would love this if it wasn't so cakey. I'm strictly matte-face, but I don't want to look like a powder puff. IMO, this just isn't a match for the Laura Mercier green pressed powder either. I don't think I'll be repurchasing this, unless I need to grab something just for pictures (in which case I'd return it when finished).

I think the concealers are better, and despite the irritation I exprienced, the coverage was so good and the application so easy, I might just buy these 'lil guys seperately. (If you buy seperately, there's a combo w/ yellow,beige,pink and one with green,beige,pink).

You're Beautiful (It's True!)

It's not that I hate you Allure, it's just that you have some shallow qualities that need to be worked out; especially if you plan to empower women in the 21st century. For now, let's just call it a 'growing distaste'.

Perhaps it's just in my mind, but something in a recent article titled 'What Makes a Person Beautiful' rang off an alarm. Perhaps I read too much (is there such a thing?) but I just finished reading an article titled Racial Disparities Threaten Economic Vitality in my Latin America course yesterday, and it talked about "racial conditioning".

You see, "when Brazil abolished slavery in 1888, the ensuing panic by a minority, white elite, gave birth to a whitening program...Brazil encouraged and subsidized massive immigration of Eurpeans, whose "superior" blood would prevail in race mixture and slowly eliminate the "inferior" black component.

In other words, instead of seperating the races and protecting their 'purity', the elite opted to eliminate Africans by means of race mixture itself."

Those white elites are still at it today, using poverty as their weapon. The whole thing is disgusting. But what does that have to do with Allure?

"a new study from Cardiff University in Wales shows that people may find mixed-race faces the most attractive—and this may be a deeper, more lasting kind of appreciation. In the largest study of its kind, Michael Lewis of Cardiff's School of Psychology, collected a random sample of 1205 black, white, and mixed-race faces. Each face was then rated by a panel of participants for its perceived attractiveness to others. In a similar earlier study, a psychologist at the University of Western Australia found that when Caucasian and Japanese volunteers looked at photos of Caucasian, Japanese, and Eurasian faces, both groups rated the Eurasian faces as most attractive. Scientists do have a hypothesis for why people might prefer a melting-pot ideal—and it isn't because of a passing beauty trend. Evolutionary psychologists suggest that it's because humans may be hard-wired to seek out mates who clearly have genetic diversity and are therefore likely to be healthier."

Is it hard-wiring? Or is it something else? The fact is, throughout history the mixing of races has been used both for integration and 'ethnic cleansing'. The following qoutes were taken right out of my Psychology textbook, Our Sexuality (it's a human sexuality course, and one I believe everyone should take).

"In wars instigated by ethnic conflict, as in the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, and Darfur, mass rape is used as a military strategy to terrorize and demoralize a whole population, to destroy it's cultural integrity...thereby acheiving the goal of 'ethic cleansing'."

There is always a dark element to humanity, ones that need not ever be. This makes me sad in so many ways. I don't think 'race mixing' is a horrible thing in itself. If two people come together, in mutual love and create a child, well that's one of the great joys in life, no matter what your ethnicity.

But what about when it comes about through obvious force or subtle social conditioning? Allure, I'm sure you meant well, but please remember. We are ALL beautiful, and should take pride in who we are, whether that's Caucasion, African, Asian Hispanic, Mestizo, Native American, Eskimo, Greek, Italian, etc. or a mix of these. Beauty is not only skin deep, it comes from the inside.

After all, what's beauty without brains?

I-Spy...or do I?

Look closely. Do you notice anything a little off about this picture from Allure.com? Yep, she doesn't have a damn stretch mark on her body. I'm not sure why, but it outrages me when they post something about stretch marks and then use a model with a flawless body. I mean c'mon! I know there are PLENTY of real women out there, not to mention all the celebs and models who have stretch marks. I guarantee that it doesn't make them look even an iota less sexy.

It's ironic considering #24 in the "Allure Guide to Looking Good":

"There's nothing positive or attractive about criticizing another woman's appearance," says self-esteem coach Laure Redmond. "Even sitting around with your friends talking about how fat a certain celebrity looks or calling women 'cougars' is destructive—and it certainly doesn't make you feel any better about yourself."

Well then Allure, don't critize our natural, beautiful bodies. You don't have to airbrush away stretch marks, cellulite, or scars to make a woman appear beautiful. I find a woman who is comfortable in her own skin the sexiest thing of all.

I wonder, how is refusing to portray the honest beauty of a womens body instead of this flawless-as-a-newborn-baby image supposed to make us feel any better of ourselves?

Oh and one more thing, open up an issue of Womens Muscle & Fitness, Oxygen, Shape, or any other fitness magazine and see for yourself, some women DO have real six packs.

Coming up: Spartacus: Blood and Sand Behind the Scenes!

Like the rest of us die-hard Spartacus fans out there, I'm at a loss with what to do on my Friday nights now that season 1 has ended. It wasn't just the glued-to-your-couch plot twists and action that sucked me in, it's also the style. Every episode seems to have outdone the last in some way, and as with the rest of the show they really payed attention to detail and what would have been used at the time.

In the next few weeks or so, I'll be pulling together a comprehensive guide on how to recreate the Roman/Spartacus make-up guide for the rest of us. I've been sending off some e-mails to try and get an interview with the cosmetics department, and doing a whole lot of independent research as well.

There's a possibility I might break it up into different "episodes" for each character so I can include some of the exquisite costumes and be able to go more in-depth with each woman. I keep bouncing back and forth over whether I want to get ballsy and send some e-mails requesting small interviews from some of the actresses...Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in!

BTW, that's Lucy Lawless (Xena) as Lucretia!

I think it'll be a lot of fun, and it'll bide my time until season 2!

Lookin' For Love in All the Wrong Places

Don't let the title mislead you, because I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Online shopping is a boon for those of us who love to window shop and/or are looking for variety. Most of us are searching for those unique pieces that speak to us and that we know someone else didn't grab off the same rack.

With sites like Forever21, ModCloth, and even E-Bay, there's no shortage of great fashion sites or finds. But here's one you might not have heard of: the Pyramid Collection. Well known in "goth" circles for their amazing period throwbacks and spiritual accesories, they also offer a treasure trove of amazing dresses, purses, shoes, jewelry, and so much more. Don't worry if you aren't into black lipstick or pentagrams, because the clothing here is anything but doom-and-gloom.

REN Frankincense and Boswellia Serrata Revitalising Night Cream

After a few I-don't-know-what days, I'm getting back to some reviews! My first skincare review is on the REN Frankincense and Boswelia Serrata night cream. I received this little bottle as a free sample from Sephora, and to be honest, I put off trying it for about 2 months after it came in the mail. I wasn't nervous to try it or anything, but I've been reluctant to use free samples or trial size things. Something about how adorable some mini-packages are or knowing that the product will run out all too soon without a replacement have made me steer away. Ususally, I like to save such things for "special occasions", but due to the fact that I'm a bit absent-minded and a procrastinator, I usually just put it off or forget about it until it's too late. No more though. I've decided that I will use all teeny products as a mini-treat for myself (that's what they are aren't they?).

Besides, I still can't let go of that Aussie hair mud envelope from high school that I never tried. That was before Aussie was sold at Wal-Mart and they don't make it anymore. :(

Frankly, I bought this because I love incense and I was hoping for an night cream that would have the same relaxing kind of scent due to the Frankincense. Even though I have sensitive skin I really love things that smell good. Have you ever noticed how bad some of that "odorless" stuff smells?

Anyways, back to the formula. I decided to do an actual "skincare challange" with this and post pics. of my process along the way (gulp). That meant taking pics. of myself first thing in the a.m. without any makeup on. Please don't judge too harshly!

Hehe, ok time to be serious. Let's start with...Oh yes, the claims!

Claims:

This luxuriously textured, nutrient-rich cream melts softly into the skin and harnesses the power of natural age-fighting agents to renew youthful qualities. Boswellic acid from Boswellia Serrata Bark works in harmony with resinoid from Frankincense to relax facial muscles and ease micro-contractions, helping to reduce and prevent the appearance of expression lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C and citroflavonoids from Calabrian Oranges and vitamins A and E boost collagen formation and cell renewal to firm and repair the skin.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:

- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petrochemicals

What else you need to know:
Famous in ancient Egypt for its preserving benefits, Frankincense has been used on skin for centuries. This skincare essential does not contain T.E.A, D.E.A, glycols, silicones, or PEGs."

That's a lot of stuff, thank God for copy + paste! I actually didn't read the claims until my "trial" was over, but I found the ancient Egyptian skin care idea intriguing, I'm a sucker for old things made new again. I distrust general claims of "chemical free" products and am curious as to why glycols or silicones weren't added. Basically, it's supposed to fight wrinkles, even skin tone, and provide moisture and antioxidant protection.

The cream is indeed "luxuriously textured" and felt a little greasier than I expected. It looks something like Vaseline in a tube (same color and all!), but it feels very silky as you apply it on your skin and it's texture means you only have to use just a small dot for each part of your face; less than a dime sized amount of product for your entire face.

It didn't smell exactly like incense, but it does smell really good. I'm a big skeptic of wrinkle creams, especially since this one made claims to relax wrinkles. In my experience, the only thing to do about a wrinkle is to apply a good moisturizer to it at least 3-4 times a day. While using this my fine lines and my one big "laugh line" did indeed plump to match the rest of my skin and was erased in the morning and the effect lasted for a couple, maybe even a few hours.

*Application*

Notice any difference? Maybe it's the lighting, but I really believe that it evened my skin tone. After using this product, I finally understand how skin can look "clarified". Because mine does now! I woke up with greasy-face, but not the dreaded icky, sticky feeling right under my eyes that happen when they aren't super-moisturized. The grease was no where near as bad as with Cetaphil either, I might add. I always wash my face in the a.m. so the greasiness didn't bother me a bit. In fact, if I needed to skip my morning wash, there was just enough moisturizer left behind to allow me to apply my makeup with a decent base.

My skin seemed more plumped, lifted, and clarified. While it didn't decrease my wrinkles to a botox-like extreme, I did notice a softening of both fine and major lines (I know, I only have one major line-but it counts!). It seemed to have tightened/lifted my skin somehow because it feels as if my skin just "hangs" better. Wow, there has got to be a better word for that...

It's a great moisturizer, but at $55 a bottle you could get an equally moisturizing night cream for much less. My boyfriend has been telling me that "I have great skin" lately, and my own gut-instinct says that there is something to this formula that's really working. Still, I can't spend $55 on a night cream so there will soon be a day when my tube will run out and this will be a memory. I just think it's overpriced (read=wayyy overpriced) for what it does.

No skin irritations or breakouts here, and I even discovered an added bonus to this cream: it is the best hand cream ever! After feeling how soft and smooth my fingers were from applying this, I started rubbing it into my hands. Well, I'm happy to report they stayed soft for hours, even after washing dishes they retained some moisture.

Since the end of my 1 week challange, I've been reserving this to only applying it once or twice a week, and only on my face (poor hands!) to keep up the benefits that it's given me. Other nights I just apply my faithful pink Olay fluid or some Cetaphil cream.

If I did have that kind of money to throw at a cream, I might consider purchasing it (if I could get past seeing the amount in my shopping cart) and I would recommend it, and repurchase it.

So being a sweetheart is part of my sign? I'm never going to be able to live that down (because let's face it, it's true.) Giving Away Cancer

As we should all be well aware of by now, tanning beds cause cancer. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, and can strike anyone, at any age. We already know that tanning is bad, and SPF and good sun and skin habits are a must, but it seems that these warnings and tradegies are falling on some deaf ears.

What exactly am I talking about? I'm talking about the "cancer as a door prize" attitude. That's right. Companies and organizations are giving away tanning sessions. Sure, that seems awesome if you like tanning, but consider the cost. Ironically, this came to my attention because my local Rec Center was offering one of these free tanning sessions giveaways. Ironically, this is supposed to be a place dedicated to keeping yourself in health.

The FDA has regulated sunlamps for more than 20 years, but a recent report by the World Health Organization tied the devices to skin cancer...The WHO analysis showed that the deadliest form of skin cancer increases 75 percent in people who use tanning beds in their teens and 20s... Nearly 69,000 U.S. cases of melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, were diagnosed last year. Also linked to ultraviolet exposure are basal and squamous cell cancer carcinomas, which affect more than 1 million Americans a year. They're usually easily removed but the American Cancer Society counts 2,000 annual deaths.

Fair-skinned people who don't tan easily are at highest risk for skin cancer. Melanoma is particularly linked to sunburns at a young age, though it is usually diagnosed in the 40s and 50s.

International cancer experts have moved tanning beds and other sources of ultraviolet radiation into the top cancer risk category, deeming them as deadly as arsenic and mustard gas.

As if that isn't scary enough, check this out: Women who use tanning beds more than once a month are 55 percent more likely to develop malignant melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer. (cancer.gov)

I know ladies, it's hard to give up bronze skin and that good feeling that comes from laying out in the sun or under a lamp. Our health is worth more than what advertising tells us is beautiful! If you don't want to give up your tan, please invest in sunless tanner.

I don't think these places or companies are intentionally trying to hurt people; far from it. But this isn't just about a reward for participation, this is a vital health issue and the long-term effects should be taken into consideration. This will hopefully go the way of Bella Donna eye drops and lead based foundation, but it requires knowledge and doing the right thing, which means taking the larger social consequences into consideration.

Vaseline Sheer Infusion Moisturizer

In beauty terms, there's never an easy season. My dry and itchy winter skin may be fading out, but spring brings with it allergies, and therefore hives and "rashes" and (you guessed it) more itchy skin. Summer will bring dry, cracked skin because we take our kids to the pool almost every day. What's a girl to do?

There are four steps to healthy skin. The first is to nourish it from the inside with healthy eating and proper hydration. That means drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water a day and eating lots of anti-oxidant rich fruits and vegetables. Another important ingredient to healthy skin is fat. Fat helps keep skin soft, plump, and supple. That's why we take fatty oil supplements such as evening primrose, fish, flax, and other oils. Fats also help to absorb nutrients into the system.

The second step is to keep it clean and exfoliated so that there's no build-up of dirt, bacteria, or dead skin. This will keep your skin smooth and "glowing". Your body naturally exfoliates itself, but not always the way it should (especially as we get older) so you can use a gentle scrub to help the process. Some good ones to try are Neutrogena's sugar scrub (the one in the green tub), Olay's daily scrubs, or for a cheap homemade alternative use sugar or instant coffee (my fav. even though the temporary brown stains freaked me out the first time!) and scrub it in during the shower on a day you aren't going to shave.

The third step is to moisturize. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. This is where it gets tough. Like men, there are a ton of choices out there, but you have to go through a lot of trial and error to find the one that was made for you. In fact, I went through about the same process with lotion buying as I did with my love life. I went through some losers, fell in love to fast with some just to be disappointed, some long term relationships, a few where I teeter-tottered over whether or not I loved them at all, and a few one night stands. /And then, finally I found the one I was meant to be with.

The fourth step is to love your skin. To be accepting of it and comfortable in it. Cherish your body for the unique and wonderful creation that it is. Skin is the bodies largest organ, so it deserves your love and devotion. (I second that emotion!). That's some pretty hefty stuff for a lotion review, but there is an underlying logic to my madness...

For review purposes, I use the mineral renewal. While I couldn't tell you the science behind this, or how the three-layer-complex works, I believe in it! Finally, I have found my HG (Holy Grail) lotion!!! I have several raves about this product. The first time I applied this I could actually see the difference. My dry skin and cracks melted away, taking the itchiness I've long suffered with it. The scent isn't overpowering, and it takes just a little to cover a wide area. In fact, the less you use and the more you spread it, the better results you get!

It's also very affordable. The big pump container lasts me a little over a month with (almost) everyday application, and a little one stretches me almost a month. I paid $6.24 for the small one, but they recently lowered the price on the big bottle from $9 something to $6.97. Hooray!

It hydrates like an oil, but deeper and lasts for at least a good 24 hours. While my skin feels just slightly greasy right after application, it fades and my skin is left in perfectly supple, hydrating condition. There's no shimmer in this (thank God!) so my skin is left looking healthy, not shiny. In fact, my skin is so buttery soft and smooth, my skin is almost waterproof. Seriously, I feel like I have seal skin. It's so fun to slide my hand down my leg in the bathtub! No more moisture loss!

Despite the fact that this formula contains fragrance it does not irritate my sensitive skin. I'm in love with this product, it does everything it says it will do and more! My kids love rubbing my arms, and my boyfriend even notices and loves this stuff. I get compliments on my skin all the time now, which is kind of odd but wonderful.

I've never had my skin feel like this, it's a wonder product for my skin and I truly, truly hope that Vaseline keeps this in the permanent line-up. I just can't say enough good things about it! I've repurchased 4 bottles now and I only have one complaint. The pump on the larger bottle swivels off and comes unscrewed very easily! It's a small price to pay though, and for a product that actually lives up to it's promise, I'm willing to take a defect in the packaging.

Wait...make that two complaints. I really wish that they would make a version for your face, or at least an unscented one I could put on my face. I swear, if I found a product that made my face feel like Sheer Infusion does my body, wrinkles wouldn't stand a chance!

I have an affinity for accessories like hats, clutches, and umbrellas. Unique pieces that can not only change my outfit, but my outlook. Being the somewhat absent-minded person that I am, I usually forget to bring an umbrella and so they were strictly functional.

That doesn't mean I wasn't head-over-heels for the thought of being able to carry around a parasol or a bright umbrella. I really wish parasols would come back in style. For centuries, before chemical SPF, women protected themselves with umbrellas and parasols (not the ugly navy or black pop-up things you can find at Walmart either) and looked stunning doing it.

Mix No. 6 Debuts at DSW

Today I took a much needed break from cosmetics reviews and finally sat down and did some online shoe "shopping". It's a beautiful day. The sun is shining, the rain sprinkled little fields of yellow dandelions across my yard (I know, I like them anyways) and I was able to open all the windows and let the fresh air breathe life back into the house. Spring is finally here, and seeing the cute new shoes from DSW (and the intro. of an awesome new brand!) in my e-mail today has left me daydreaming even more of fragrant breezes and dewy green grass.

This is a great collection, with a low or mid price range depending on your viewpoint. I've never heard of Mix No. 6 before, but I'm impressed with their selection. These pieces look comfortable, and keep a feminine edge to even their gladatior sandels without being extreme or cliche.

I especially love the lines and curves of the Mia jelly sandal; a multi-purpose flat that gives me the same options as my flip-flops (and more) for $19.95, making it the most affordable piece in the collection. A once sneakers of sandals (and I mean flip-flops) girl, I've finally grown comfortable into flats and I love their versatility that my sneakers could never give me. I love jelly sandals, they remind me of sunny childhood days splashing around in water and drenched in the yummy smell of that Coppertone Baby sun block. Still one of my favorite scents ever. You could wear these with a swimsuit, dress, jeans, romper, or practically anything else you want and still look downright adorable and a step above the crowd, too.

Most of these sandals come in multiple color choices as well. This is great especially for anklet-sandels like the Flora beaded flat, which comes in 4 colors. As a woman with thick calves, I have a hard time finding anklets that fit, and who wants to worry about their jewelry coming off at the beach? I love effortless pieces that add a lot of style, which make this a top pick in my book. While one reviewer did complain that "The strap between the toes rubbed against my second toe and really hurt." she had also been wearing them for a un-sandal like amount of walking ("out shopping to test them out", which seems like a good idea but can actually hurt your shoes (and your feet), you wouldn't wear stillettos shopping to break them in). Other reviewers called them " the comfiest things ever" and "pretty comfy" though another reader also offers up that "They don't have any arch support- but that could be fixed with a gel insert or something. " I like the boho-chic attitude of the majority of these sandals.

Gladiator shoese have been "in" for a while now, and recently I've even dared to wear them. I love the additional security the strap provides, even though people with thick calves are supposed to stay away from ankle straps, as long as they're low strung I think they look great. To me, these sandals scream shorts and dresses or skirts. I found several styles of these that I love, but if I had to choose one it would be the Mix No. 6 Bunch Gladiators. It comes in just the right shade of gray, and I love the way the soft bunch flowers take it from gladiator to fashionista.

With a unique twist on basic designs, these shoes are yet another one of the reasons why I love DSW. Whether you're looking for something tribal, girly, or somewhere in between, chances are you'll find something to love in the Sandal Shop. I know I can't wait to grab some of these for myself!

Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Washable

The final contender in the Triple Threat Series has has arrived! This mascara promises volume galore, "9x" the volume even! Advertisements show full, long lashes that could put Betty Davis to shame. It seems bold advertising claims are par for the course as usual, and it's at last time to bust or back-up those claims.

Case in point: I decided to go ahead and throw up the pic. of the lash model so you can see just how "colossal" this mascara claims to be. Oh, if only... IMO, those are falsies. Or lots of lots of layers applied by expert make-up artists. Even as a Maybelline fan, I've been nominally impressed by this trio of mascaras. I'm not sure it was entirely worth the $10, as I really only like the Lash Stilleto, and that is not an everyday mascara.

I think this series is ready for its finale. I saved this mascara for last because this wasn't my first encounter with it. Years back, when it very first came out, my mom bought a tube of this and loved it. Naturally, when one of us gets excited about a product, we have to let the other one try it out. I remember the formula being very wet and clumpy. It ended up all over my eyelid and therefore ended up retiring on the back of her bathroom counter for months, and then years, until finally it had amassed a thick coat of dust and was thrown out.

That was a long time ago though, and now this happy little yellow tube would get a second chance. I promised myself to erase all past experiences from my mind in reviewing this mascara and to try and be as un-biased as possible.

Hmmm, no hypo-allergenic claims? Odd. In fact, not a lot of claims at all compared to most of their website descriptions. What there is is that one REALLY big claim. I suppose they made it to fit the really big brush, or is it vice versa? Yes, the brush is "mega" which isn't really surprising for a volume formula. The brush wasn't the first thing I noticed about this mascara though, the smell was. It has a *very* similar smell to Lash Stilleto. It's not quite as strong though, and fades a little faster.

My lashes have been in a fragile state lately, so I was really looking forward to finding out how the collagen formula would treat them. Normally, I depend on my OF (Ol' Faithful) Full 'n Soft for not only lash conditioning, but volume as well. Colossal volume sounded even better, but unfortunately this mascara did not deliver. In fact, I got better results with more Full 'n Soft in regards to volume than I did with this formula.

As you can see, the only thing colossal about this formula is my disappointment. There was almost no volume, and the formula was somewhat dry. I thought that the dryness was strange, because the first time I tried this formula, it was too wet. My belief that this set is "old" is really taking shape. My lashes (obviously) look nothing like the lash model, or the box, for that matter.

The one positive thing is that it washed off very easily. It also flaked, smudged, and clumped easily. I know a lot of people really love this formula, because I have seen numerous positive reviews out there. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. There are a lot better mascaras out there, IMO. I will not be repurchasing this formula.

Well, that's all folks. Bottom line? If you already know you love one of these formulas, or you don't mind spending the mere $10 to experiment yourself, then this set may be for you. It was fun to play around with, but only 1 of these made it to my make-up bag (Lash Stilleto) and I have my issues with that formula as well. Oh well, stay tuned for the next edition!

Maybelline Lash Stilleto Washable Mascara

Finally, part two of the Maybelline mascara series has arrived. I've been looking forward to trying this one the most out of the three mascaras in the set. This mascara came out about the same time as CG's Lash Blast Length if memory serves. I remember the ads being quite extreme, with lashes practically touching the model's eyebrows! I admit that I crave longer lashes, but not that long. My big question was if this could out-perform the LB length who's promise of 80% longer looking lashes still leaves me a little 'bitter'...

A while back I spent a decent chunk of my afternoon reading review of this mascara, because I was thinking about trying it, and that seems to have become part of my pre-shopping ritual lately; after reading many dissapointing reviews, including a woman who said she could "smell her eyelashes all day". Indeed, almost every review mentioned a strong "paint" like smell, which probably has something to do with the shellac in the formula. A few reviewers even reported that it broke off their lashes.

Then again, it also got really great reviews that praised it's brush and amazing length, stating "it did just what it said it would". That's the problem with trying to rely on the internet for decision making, eh? Certainly I want to have long, shiny black lashes!

Well, as they say, curiousity killed the cat, and I still wanted to find out for myself. Would this really be a bad apple, or just misunderstood?

That's a hefty amount of claims, way to go Maybelline marketing department! The best part is that there is actually a great deal of truth in the comparison of this mascara to stilettos; you get what you ask for, but you still have to suffer the consequences.

But I'm getting ahead of myself here so I'm going to break into the narrative part.

There are two things that you notice immediately upon taking the brush out of the tube. The first is the big spikey-cone bristle wand that actually looks impressive. The second is the smell. Even after reading all those reviews, I wasn't quite prepared for the smell. Paint thinner would be accurate, though it doesn't quite match. It reminds me of something vintage, like I picked this up at an antique store or found it in an attic.

Being a sort of vintage 'nut' anyways, that didn't deter me a bit. Application was surprisingly easy with this, and it indeed coated my lashes from root-to-tip and even seemed to 'grab them' though I couldn't quite get the wand to hold on to them all the way through. I didn't experience any clumps and the formula went on nice and wet, giving me dark, full, and long lashes. I was actually so surprised by how well it lengthened I had to take a snapshot of how it looked beside my 'regular' eye!

I felt like I had doll lashes with this stuff on. It dried to an almost waterproof finish (though I did experience mild flaking since it was not waterproof), and held my curl better than my lash curler acheived alone. I'm not sure how shiny my lashes were, but I was in love.

Consequently, that's how my relationship with high heels always starts out. But heels aren't everday shoes, and I shortly found out that this wasn't an everyday mascara. After the second or third day, I started collecting longer flakes than usual below my eyes. After brushing a few away, I went to the bathroom to make sure nothing was in my eye. Much to my surprise, the eye that had been flaking was about half as short as my other eye. My lashes had snapped off at the top! I've been putting my lashes in 'rehab' ever since with my trusty Full 'N Soft, but admittedly I love the look this gives me so much I still apply it once or twice a week. My lashes seem to handle this mascara as long as I give it at least a 2 day break or so in-between applications.

Yep. That tendency stilletos have to leave your legs and feet screaming at the end of the day (or night) applies here too. There's the truth in the "The only mascara that does for lashes what stilettos do for legs." campaign. Well played and aptly worded.

It's a great mascara for special occasions or occasional use, though. In fact, with a little TLC you can work around the pitfalls in the formula and get incredible results.

Were my lashes eyebrow high? No, and they weren't "70% longer" either. However, they were at least 40% longer, maybe even 50% and that's a better rating than I expected to give it. I love getting to have "Doll eyes" and this stuff made me crave white lined inner-rims and a vintage eye look. I could argue the same for heavy, smokey eyes, or as an excuse to minimize every other feature. This is a great product for stand out lashes. Be aware of the consequences though, and make sure your lashes are in good condition.

The formula goes on creamy, but dries a little brittle. I think the waterproof formula might yield better results, and I will probably end up trying it someday. The formula shouldn't cause eyelashes to break out, and while it can be a good mascara for occasional wear, a good mascara should be able to be worn everyday. This gets great points for looks, but loses some for it's formula. It removed easier than my waterproof formulas, but was still a little tricky to get off.

The brush is fantastic, like Martha Stewart fashioned it out of a Brillo pad. It's genius what this does for my lashes. And without clumping or ending up on my eyelid either! Maybelline is off to a great start, but they need to work on the conditioning ingredients some more. I might repurchase, but I will probably just look for another lengething mascara.

Maybelline Define-A-Lash Macara

Introducing the first contender in the Triple Threat series...*drumroll*...Define-A-Lash in Very Black. The question on everyone's mind is, will it deserve it's drumroll?

Well, that's the question on my mind anyways. Will it be as great as the Define-A-Brow line? Maybelline didn't think to add a handy lash-comb on the end of the mascara the way they do their brow pencil, but it does ~~guarantee~~ advertise "zero clump lashes". It's even won the Allure Best of Beauty Editors' Choice Award 2007 as "Best Mascara for Day".

-Washable; also available in waterproof formula

I'm glad the website called this formula lengthening, because the box it came in didn't. The first thing I noticed about this formula is that it was very "sheer" and indeed swiped on my lashes easily. This is the only mascara in the set to come with a plastic brush. It was far from "zero clump" though. Perhaps the formula is a little old since it was in a promotional set, but this mascara actually clumped up on me a lot. I blame the brush more than the formula, I feel like it holds too much product and doesn't provide even dispersion. I had to run a lash comb through my lashes, but it did indeed provide "definition". My lashes were coated evenly from root-to-tip and it caught even my little lashes (albiet a bit too much in parts).

I was a little disappointed by this formula. As you can see, it doesn't hold a curl (and in fact straightened the curl out of my lashes) and took more effort than it should have. End result after all the fussing was nicely defined, long-looking lashes. As with other Maybelline formulas, it didn't irritate my eyes, so at least it earned some points for that.

The other area where this mascara stayed true to it's claims was washablity. I ended up having a small cry-session somewhere between 3 and 5 hours of application, and it all came off. It washed off without even soap, and left me stuck with racoon-face and brown eyelashes. I can see this being a possible reason for it being a great "daytime" mascara, as it washes off without any problem if you need to apply a different formula for night. I hate to give a product a bad review, so I'll call this mascara "just okay". It's probably best for someone who has naturally long lashes and doesn't really want any coverage.

It's too bad, because I love the Define-A-Brow line, but I think there are still some glitches to be worked out in this formula. I'm willing to try it in the waterproof formula to see if there's any change in quality, but I would not repurchase.

Maybelline Triple Threat Series

It's no small secret that I love Maybelline mascaras-except for Great Lash, that is. On a recent trip to Wal-Mart I found this 3 pack of mascaras for $10. Yep. 3 mascaras for $10! That's almost like buy-one-get-two-free. I've been really wanting to try the Lash Stilleto, but after reading many reviews that note it's "horrible smell" and "lash breaking" effects, I just wasn't going to spend my money on it. Well, this gave me an excuse. Over the next week or so I'll be posting my reviews on these 3 formulas.

The mascaras included in this set are: Define-A-Lash (Very Black), Colossal Volume (Glam Black), and Lash Stilleto (Very Black). All formulas are washable. Which is actually something I didn't particularly like about this, because I never wear washable mascaras. It's good to try something new, and I enjoy getting to experiment.

I like the pictures they included on the back, although I doubt I'll get such fantastic results because my lashes are naturally short. I wonder why the volume mascara also shows the best length? lol. Well, time to begin the journey...

I'd like to start with a confession. I've always struggled with eyeliner. I abhor lining my upper lashes because, let's face it, I do not have a steady hand. Inner eyes are a little better, perhaps due to the fact that I prefer that look over all. I have given up on doing my lower lashes. That area is the worst, I either make my liner too thick or too thin, I'm not sure exactly where to stop (mid-eye or all the way?), and it's just a frustrating situation in general.

Sure, I love eyeliner. I mean I love eyeliner. During my teenage "goth" years I must have went through at least a pencil a month. I never did quite get it right though. My friends, who must've known something I didn't, had steady hands when they applied their liner. They would walk around with perfectly-lined, black (mine always came out gray isntead...) rimmed eyes. *sigh*. I would buy the same products as them, yet it would never apply "full strength" on my watery eyes. Therefore I have probably spent more on eyeliner than any other product, except maybe mascara.

Up until purchasing this Urban Decay eyeliner, my experience had been exclusively in "drugstore" eye pencils. I shelled out $17 for this pencil, plus the $9 for the sharpener. Yes, I think you could probably get away with another sharpener for this, but I had also purchased the 24/7 concealer pencil and you really need the sharpener for that. In my opinion, $17 is a whole lot of cash to shell out for eyeliner. But after so much dissapointment, I would gladly pay a little more just to get something that lives up to it's claims.

First off, I'd like to gush about how creamy this stick really is. I don't even have to tug at my eyes to apply my liner to my top lash-line. No tugging, pulling, or wayward pencil lines. This is the first product I've been able to line my top lashes with pro results. Woo! Actually, the creaminess of this formula made me nervous at first. Creaminess in a pencil usually means lots of smudging, low-staying power, and pencil break-off. The people at UD must know what they're doing. This stuff will.not.budge. Let me repeat, will.not.budge. It's easy to blend, but once it's set you can't budge it. Not an inch. Well, unless you kept tugging at your eyes really hard-but why would you want to do that?

As for the inner-lids, this is where I really get excited. This pencil gave me a true black line, no black-on-the-stick, grey-on-my-eyes transformation. I get better results if I run a q-tip over my rims before I apply, because all that extra water in my eyes doesn't do me any good. It stays put, and never spills down into my lower lash line. It does start to fade after it's been on for a few hours, like 4-5 or more. Most of the time it wears longer, but it doesn't live up to the 24 hour marketing ploy. The reason the fade-factor isn't so bad is because this stuff has such great staying power. Even when it starts to fade it still won't migrate. I still end up with those little black balls in the corner of my eyes, but I've seen them worse. For some reason this doesn't accumulate, I appreciate that. I can't wait to try it at the pool!

On top of the great application, my sensitive eyes give this the hypo-allergenic two thumbs up. Well, they would if they had thumbs...I'm not sure about the moisturizing factor though. It works to make the pencil soft, but I don't think these benefits transfer to my skin. The best Eye Pencil ever, ever, ever? Mmmmaaaaaybe. I still have to try MAC, MUFE, Revlon Colorstay, and Chanel before I give it that title. Best one I've tried, ever, ever, ever? Yes!

On to the packaging. This is where I have my complaint. The lid doesn't like to stay on, please don't apply this above sink drains or anywhere else it could fall in. Fishing stuff out of the sink trap is gross, and not something I want to do again, hehe. You just can't really trust sticking the lid on the back of the pencil, it'll stay closed enough to keep the pencil creamy, but just be sure that you've really jammed that thing down into the pencil so that you know it's got a good seal.

All in all, I love this pencil. It's not perfect, but is anything? This little guy goes everywhere with me, I keep it in the pen-holder in my wallet, application is so noob-proof that I can do this in my car (not driving!) and it'll still look just as great as when I apply it at home in front of my fully-lighted mirror. The only 2 things I don't like about this is that (1) it still fades a little on my inner-rim by the end of the night, and (2) I can't stand the darn lid. Either way, I will definitely repurchase this, especially in the wide range of colours they have! Sometimes you really do have to pay for quality, and I'm so happy I made this purchase. Urban Decay is starting to convert me, partly with their awesome designs, and almost entirely with their quality and performance.

I got this in my email today...

It made me sad and disappointed. Ok, I'm not a big follower of Kim Kardishian; I mean, I never watch her show or anything. I know her mostly through my magazine addiction, where she has represented the beauty of a womans body (by that I mean CURVES) and I had always applauded her for not letting her cellulite be airbrushed a while back. That actually gave me the final push to stop hiding my legs all the time and stop critizing my body so hard. I saw that magazine spread, she looked great. I thought, hey, cellulite can still be sexy! I've always loved hips, and let's face it my thigs aren't going to go anywhere anytime soon! I'm happy with that though. As long as I take care of my body, keep it strong and healthy, then I should feel sexy.

Of course, I don't feel like that all the time. None of us do. But this is why I'm upset to see Kim being a spokeswoman for diet pills. The message that we should be happy, confident and sexy in our *own* bodies is something so badly needed right now, and she has effectively killed her role in representing that truth. Must every woman with a little curve and weight be "fixed" and skinny? NO! I'm sick of the before pictures looking better than the after. What happened to "This is the real me, I love my body."?

Does Kim really need the money to have to do these ads? I doubt it.

So why then? I won't give up on myself-confidence and self-acceptance are part of a long journey, of course there are road-blocks on the way. But what about others, those who haven't reached that mile marker? Those who are too young and won't get a positive message? She looked fantastic, there was absolutely no reason to advertise for these. Diet pills ruined my body so much that my body became unable to sustain pregnancy and my youngest son was born 3 months early. I worked at a nutrition store for almost 3 years, and I have seen heart attacks in teenagers, permanant thyroid and kidney/liver damage in women and men alike, and a host of other side effects. These "all natural" diet pills don't help, they hurt! The whole industry lies and preys on the cultural pressure on women to fit in with the media's popular images.

Speaking of, isn't Khloe a new mom? These are women in positisions of influence. They shouldn't be sending that message. Yes, social responsibility is absolutely real. Studies and history prove it again and again.

Tell me, is what you notice the cellulite? I know the things I notice about myself are things no one else is looking at (even though it doesn't always feel that way). These pics. are proof that you don't need to be super-skinny or have a mannaquin body to be sexy or confident.

Well, sorry Kim, but I'm not all beauty and no brains. My girl crush has worn off and it's time for me to move on. Here's hoping you do the same. If we want to be happy with our bodies, we should change our mindset; not change our bodies to try and make ourselves happy.

Honestly, I think something larger is going on to cause these US only brand pull-outs. Why else pull them out of a successful market?

Maybelline Lash Discovery Mascara

Lately, I've been on a mission to hunt down a great lengthening mascara. My lashes only really lack in length and curl, and I'm too much of a noob at make-up application to try and rely only on a mere brush-wand for curl in my lashes. My first purchase was CG's Lash Blast Length; and while I consider it a decent mascara it just wasn't right for me. I went back to my trusty Maybelline for my next purchase, a tube of their waterproof Lash Discovery formula. The itty-bitty brush looked great not only for my lower lashes (I swear, I really am one of those people who get mascara under their eye every time!) but for being able to do the tops of my lashes without losing any curl.

I paid $6.24(+tax) for this at my local Wal-Mart. It was just a touch cheaper than the CG mascara which I actually ended up exchanging for this. Sometimes I can still use up a product even if I don't love it; but not if it irritates my eyes. So how did this mascara live up to it's claims?

Claims:

"-Exclusive lash-catching mini-brush allows you to get hard to reach lashes - from corner to corner, root to tip and the bottom, too.

-Lengthens and defines lashes

-No clumps or globs

-Contact lens safe and hypoallergenic

-Waterproof; also available in washable formula

For Best Results-
Apply mascara from your outer lash to inner lash, sweeping brush slowly from root to tip. Do not let dry between coats."*

Well, it performed pretty well! Though I would like to disclose that I think the tube I bought had been on the shelf a little too long. The dry/waxy consistancy was like any other mascara I've had that's past it's prime. Too lazy to make an exchange again, but I will buy a second tube to test this. This formula was drier/less creamy than either my Full 'n Soft or the LB Length, and I had to blot off extra mascara at both the end of the brush and where the brush and wand meet. I don't know why but mascara loves to clump up around there.

The brush is fantastic for getting lower eyelashes and getting in-between my upper lashes & lower lashes so they finally stop clumping together. I really dislike trying to pull my eyelashes apart...I applied it as the directions stated, and while it wasn't clump free, it applied thickly and did indeed give a little length. Nothing amazing, maybe 20-30% increase. I'd say length-wise it equals or just slightly exceeds the LB Length. It holds a curl even through sleep, and on the waterproof factor performs better than any other formula I've tried.

There's a reason they say not to let this stuff dry between coats. Once it dries it is s.e.t. and messing with it or adding more will only cause clumps & flakes. That's my one big problem with this mascara BTW is the slight flaking (only really happens when I mess with my lashes, but that can be quite a bit with my allergies) and just small amounts of flaking, really. Still it's worth mentioning though. It really doesn't take a lot of swipes or work to get your lashes evenly covered, and I think it does a good job of defining too. When I use this stuff I have to finish with a lash comb to get the few clumps out; I think a newer bottle would help the problem. Overall I believe this formula just isn't as creamy as other mascaras I've tried, but it works very well and gives perfect coverage for hours.

If you need to layer your mascara with another formula, this one works really well. I usually let it dry for about 3-5mins and then apply a coat or two of volume mascara (I use Maybelline Full 'n Soft) and it doesn't clump and really makes my lashes look like falsies! Like any other Maybelline mascara, this one didn't irritate my eyes a bit!

While it has a few character flaws, this is a great little tool to keep in your bag. I wouldn't keep it in my purse or use it for traveling, but this mascara has so many different possiblities and wears so well and long, I have a feeling this little guy is going to come in handy for many, many occasions.

Confession: I'm no Twihard.

Even though I actually understand what that term means now, I've never read the books (but I will, once I have the time) and I haven't exactly picked a "side" (but if I did it would be Team Jacob).
...wait, this looks misleading...I'm not admitting to anything!
What I really love about Twilight is Bella Swan. I'm obsessed with her hair; and her choice of sexy-yet-earthy make-up colours are something I share.

How to pull off the Bella look? It's pretty simple. (Unless you ask me how to get her luminous porcelian skin, that is.) Here are some of the best tips and backstage secrets to 'vamp up' your routine!

Part 1
*Make-up*

"Bella’s description in the novel is very pale and extremely beautiful with large chocolate brown eyes, so she wore colored lenses every day," says Jeanne Van Phue, the movie's head makeup artist. "I also pictured her as a natural beauty, which is exactly what Kristen is. I used a light hand while applying all neutral colors to make her look as though she had no makeup on."

Skincare: It rains a lot in Forks, but that doesn't mean that sun protection is any less important. To protect Bella's skin from all that sun exposure during filiming, Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream SPF 55 was used on set. Sound pricey? No worries. Just look for a lightweight moisturizing cream with antioxidants and an SPF of at least 30. Olay, Clarins, and Neutrogena all have excellent SPF creams for a fraction of the price.

Foundation: While her look is natural, I wouldn't say it looked as if 'she had no makeup on'. On the set SKII Air Touch foundation in OP-3 was sprayed on for a natural finish. (bonus! It's waterproof!) At home, try a tinted moisturizer or sheer-medium coverage foundation to even out tone and conceal any redness, yet let your natural skin show through. Make sure that your foundation matches your skin exactly, no make-up lines with this look!

Concealer: Flawless Face Foundation/Concealer was "a must have in Van Phue's make-up kit." The product was made for burn victim,so it works well on sensitive/dry skins. "Once the skin is cleaned, apply to blemishes, discoloration or any imperfections. It must be powdered for it to set; this makes it water resistant." Van Phue uses Flawless Face Finishing Powder to set the concealer.

To keep it simple, use a concealor the exact same shade as your skin. If you have dark circles stick with a richly-pigmented pink-based formula (NW shades) to counteract any blue/purple undertones. Only spot coverage is necessarily. Be sure to blend and set! Others to try- MAC Studio Tech, , NYX concealer in a jar, Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil Liner.

Powder: Van Phue kept shine at bay by using MAC Blot Powder/Pressed in Light on Bella as well as on Edward.

While nothing is as good as the original, if you can't get this one, look for a shine-control/oil-control pressed powder, like Urban Decay's new De-Slick mattifying powder. or the Almay shine/oil-control pressed powders.

Basically, not a lot of base with this look, just something to even out the color and keep shine at bay. One last thing, skip the bronzer. Bella's natural look only calls for a little bit of blush to contour and bring color to the face.

Blush: Bella wears Visiora compact powder in PC 103.

This is a pale pink peachy color, sometimes described as orange-y. Van Phue loved this blush because, despite being pale, if you apply it heavier “It will make the cheeks pop more, but not make you look clownish.” She blended it slightly up into the temples and a little into the hairline.

Basically, apply a sheer wash of blush (be sure to get rid of excess on your brush) to contour your face and keep yourskin from looking washed out. Apply blush with a square-shaped blush brush or fan brush in the hollows of your cheeks (suck your cheeks in to find) and blend back towards your jawbone, ending a little into the hairline.Other ones to try-Benefit Dandelion, E.L.F. Natural Radiance Blusher in Glow, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends Sheer Highlighting Blush in Healthy 26.

Eyes: Bella has a very minimal, yet smokey look to her eyes. There isn't really a lot of products at work here, both liner and third eyeshadow color are optional. The specific makeup used in the movie is shown below, but any earth-tone (greens, coppers, golds, beiges, etc) will work. The best thing about this routine is that it's low-fuss and still feminine, like Bella.

Shadow: After preparing eyelids with Smashbox Lip and Lid Primer, Van Phue swept on three neutral shades of MAC eye shadow:

MAC in: Blanc Type (creamy beige), Girlie (Flute was used on set, but was a limited release color(rosey-pink)) and Wedge (muted beige).

Don't worry if you don't have these MAC colors in stock; you can just grab all three in Almay's Intense i-Color Shadow Trio For Hazels. Individually, L'oreal HIP duo in Shady is the dupe of Wedge.

Basically, to get Bella's eye makeup use two neutral/earth toned eye shadows. Apply nude or vanilla right to the middle of the mobile lid and under the brows. Work taupe or light brown into the crease and the outer eyes in a soft V shape and blend colors together. I threw this chart together on Paint to try and explain it better.

Eyeliner: Although I prefer the pencil-smudged inner-eye lined look, both options are pretty and flattering on just about any skin tone thanks to the neutral palette. Black might be a little intense, so brown, copper, plum, or charcoal shades may work better for this look. Pencils to try: Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero, Bourbon, Gunmetal, Lucky, Stash, Rockstar, or Underground; Revlon Colorstay in Charcoal, Black-Brown, Brown, or Blackberry.

Mascara: Lashes need to be black for this look. On set Bella wore Smashbox Limitless Lash Mascara in black (waterproof). For the cheapie version, try Maybelline XXL Extend (waterproof) or L'oreal Double Extend Lash Fortifier & Extender.

Lips: Nothing too dark or vibrant here, just a pretty pink lip to balance the eyes. Look for a brownish plum lipstick with a creamy finish; Benefit Silky-Finish lipstick in Good-to-Go was used on the set, Smashbox Lid and Lip Primer was first applied.

If your looking for a dupe, the exact drug-store match is Revlon Super Lustrous Cream Lipstick in Cocoa Bronze. If you'd rather use something more sheer, try Neutrogena Moisture Shine LipSheers in Mocha Chill (which appears darker and a bit more plum than Good to Go but, don't worry, it matches on your lips).

Part 2

*Hair*

Color: Bella's hair color is Chestnut Brown. (try natural instincts hazelnut + spiced cider for top “highlights”). Semi-permanant haircolors work better when dying hair brown, because it adds more dimension and shine and safeguards against "flat" or unnatural colours.

If you're going more than 2 shades darker (or from blonde to brown) go to a salon and get a "dye-back" done. This is basically a process where they add red/orange tint back into your hair before adding brown dye.

I'm not certain, but I think Bella's haircolor may be two-toned (lighter on top than on bottom) as shown in the pictures on the right and below.

Cut: The cut calls for long, soft layers; no "choppy" layering. Be sure to ask for softly angled, face framing layers starting at the chin in front. Bella's shiny hair is in great condition. Deep condition at least once a week (try Garnier Fructis Sleek 'n Smooth Deep Conditioner) at least once a week and use a leave in conditioning cream or spray daily.

Style: Bella isn't really much for fancy up-dos, her hair is almost always down. While it's usually curled; she also wears it straight. For accessories she wears either beanie/knit-hats or thin headbands to pull her hair away from her eyes.

How to achieve Bella's soft, bouncy, curls:

Use a curling iron with a 1"-1 1/2" inch barrel*.
Separate one section of hair at a time (Don't bother clamping hair into sections) to be curled into about a 2-3"(medium sized) section and wrap it around the iron, starting at the top so that ends hang loose (don’t use the clamp).
Hold the section around the wrapped area for about a minute and and then let go. It should be a nice loose curl.
Continue doing this around the rest of your head (you don’t have to do all of it– it looks more natural to leave a few strands straight), set your hair with a tiny bit of hairspray, and run your fingers through to make it look slightly more soft/natural.

*Alternatively, large hot rollers could be used, but I haven't tested this myself.

Brunette not your thing? Don't worry, because although Bella herself may not be blond, Kristen looks beautiful either way. The key is to keep it natural looking with subtle highlights for dimension in either case.

Part 3

*Style*

Bella has that girl-next-door, American/Western look to her style. Her style is tomboyish; but still feminine. She isn't dressing for fashion, she's dressing for comfort. The trick is to keep the layers sheer and well-fitting so it looks pulled-together.

Shirts and Jeans: Layering is key to Bella's style. While her wardrobe isn't very colorful, it's also

not baggy or disheveled. One thing to make sure is that your tops are always well-fitted; save the bulk for the jacket/coat. Bella often sticks to neutrals and cool colors such as blues, greens and whites, but mix whatever colors you like and look best on you. She wears a lot of henleys, thermal shirts, bootleg cut jeans, and also also occasionally the typical Washington button-down plaid shirt. Jewelry: Accesories are silver-toned, and feature usually one gem or stone a piece. Her jewelry shows the influence of Arizona, where she grew up. Some of her jewelry, like the pretty moonstone ring, her engagement ring, and this turqouise bracelet can be purchased online.

Outerwear: It's cold in Forks, so jackets and coats are a must. Bella chooses mainly zip-up or parka style coats which end up being the most colorful part of her wardrobe. Most of her jackets end at the hip; creating a long, lean leg-line. You can find plenty of 'Bella jackets' online; including the now famous blue jacket; available for purchase here.

Shoes: Bella is a sneakers girl. For Bella, high heels are reserved for 'have to' occasions, and even with a dress she's usually rockin' her trusty pair of converses. The shoes worn in the movie were: black Jack Purcell converse (for the prom), black Simple Shoes Retires (during most forest scenes), black Nike's (when she goes to the movies with Jacob and Mike in New Moon). In New Moon she a lso wears Keds in both brown and navy blue.
