This weekend I'm going to take my 5 year old to get some supplies to make some Halloween crafts. One that I remember from my childhood is making mini ghosts, similar to this picture.

You get small styrofoam balls, pipe cleaner and tissues. Cover the ball with the tissue, tie closed with the pipe cleaner (cut to size) and draw on a face. Seems easy enough. I plan on stringing them together and letting her hang them in her room.

I'll post pictures when we're done.

If only I was a size 8, then I'd be perfect
That last one is a tough one, because it refers to my (soon-to-be) ex husband. I completely cannot, without a doubt, stand him and would not bat an eye if I never saw him again in my life. But..."I wouldn't have you" refers to my daughter. So I guess as the saying goes, "Things happen for a reason", is right on. If I didn't meet this man (I use this term loosely), then I wouldn't have my daughter. I probably wouldn't have the man I have now either.

All it's good for is to show you how unsuccessful you are and how little you've accomplished in your life. That's how I feel every time I go on FB. But of course, I'm hooked like heroine to this useless piece of "social media".

FB makes it seem like everyone else out there my age (30 going on 18) has their shit together. Be it work, social and personal life, whatever. They all seem to have time for the gym and the energy to go. The money for the latest IPhone (I've never owned one and I could care less if I ever do) or their latest vacation.

These "friends" of mine endlessly complain about the most ridiculous things like their latest app not working or being stuck in traffic.

"Friends"...yea, that's an interesting word.
I don't know about you, but I haven't gotten close to reading all the 9,000 pages of this bill; and neither have most of Congress for that matter.

Here is what it means for us within the first year:

Within the first year

• Young adults will be able stay on their parents' insurance until their 27th birthday.

• Seniors will get a $250 rebate to help fill the "doughnut hole" in Medicare prescription drug coverage, which falls between the $2,700 initial limit and when catastrophic coverage kicks in at $6,154.

• Insurers will be barred from imposing exclusions on children with pre-existing conditions. Pools will cover those with pre-existing health conditions until health care coverage exchanges are operational.

• Insurers will not be able to rescind policies to avoid paying medical bills when a person becomes ill.

• Lifetime limits on benefits and restrictive annual limits will be prohibited.

• New plans must provide coverage for preventive services without co-pays. All plans must comply by 2018.

• A temporary reinsurance program will help offset costs of coverage for companies that provide early retiree health benefits for those ages 55 to 64.

• New plans will be required to implement an appeals process for coverage determinations and claims.

• Adoption tax credit and assistance exclusion will increase by $1,000. The bill makes the credit refundable and extends it through 2011.

• A 10 percent tax will be imposed on amounts paid for indoor tanning services on or after July 1.

• Businesses with fewer than 50 employees will get tax credits covering 35 percent of their health care premiums, increasing to 50 percent by 2014.

Click here for the rest of the time line.

For more on what you can expect in the coming month's you can also check out the Huffington Post's page on Health Care.

I say finally, because I feel like everyone has one and it is such a huge trend, even here in South Florida, thus, I have succumb to peer pressure and purchased my first real scarf. It isn't made of wool and it probably wouldn't do a good job at keeping my neck warm in NY this time of year, but for here at home, it'll do just fine. It's more of a fashion statement I would say. And this leads me to one of my many 'New Year's Resolutions'.

Be More 'Fashionable'

I love flip flops. I love jeans. I love t-shirts. Unfortunately, that is pretty much all I wear, everyday! Even at work! I like fashion and some trends. I like looking nice, but love being comfortable even more. My goal for this new year is to try to combine fashion with comfortability.

My biggest problem is fear. I don't like to stand out too much or draw attention to myself, good or bad. I've had no problem with men 'checking me out' wearing sweats and a t-shirt. I think this may be one of my issues I've been having lately with attracting the wrong men. So I figure, dress better, attract a better class of guy.

This will also force me to stand up straight and look up while I walk, oh, and make eye contact with people. God, I sound like a troll...

This is what I've always told myself. Now as I lay here I can't stop crying, feeling sorry for myself because I don't have any girl friends. The only woman in my life that I am close with is my mother who is almost 66. She's not going to be here forever...then what?? I just want SO desperately to have a close relationship with another female; to go out with, shop with, cry with and share with. I want to scream out, "it's not fair!" "why doesn't anyone want to be my friend?!"

I see my high school 'friends' on facebook posting their pix of a girls' night out...I get so incredibly jealous. I know I do.

This time period is what is known as the 'honeymoon period'. This is where you and your SO (Significant Other) don't fight, pester, nag or disagree about much, if anything. I HATE this period! The person that I am portraying during this time, is not who I really am, at least not all the time. But why am I doing this? Is it because I'm afraid that my SO won't like me? or, could it be that I'm afraid to be my 'true self' so not to get hurt.

I know all relationships go through this period and don't get me wrong, it can be a lot of fun..if you're not worried about the future. I wish I could be that person who lives in the moment without a thought of 'what might happen if...'.

It's such a great feeling when there is someone in your life that is thinking about you and cares for you. Knowing that is the most amazing feeling in the world. But, is he/she being sincere? I'm sure many of you have been burned before in relationships, where you thought things were going fine and all of a sudden you receive a text message..."It's not you it's me..." Ok, so maybe that didn't happen to you, but it happened to me. I mean, I wasn't in love with the guy but I was comfortable with him and content. Then, without a moments notice, the rug got pulled out from under me.

No matter how much I may say that it didn't bother me, it did. I wouldn't be human if it didn't. Besides being somewhat a hit to my ego, it was a major hit to trusting a SO. How do I trust that what this person is saying to me, what seems to be so heart-filled, is actually that? When he wispers in my ear, 'you're so beautiful, you're wonderful' what am I suppose to think? Will I forever be a cynic?!

I want so badly to trust and let down my guards, but each time I do, I pay the price.

It's not fair to bring these feelings into my new relationship. It's in the back of my mind, for sure. I think back to 'Mr. Texter' and how 'nice' and 'great' he seemed; and now, as i find myself with someone who seems so genuine and sincere, there's this little voice inside of me that is holding me back ever so slightly.

I guess it's a good thing to be a bit cautious of new relationships.

Barely a 'wave' reported in the Atlantic this season. Now, I know NOAA gives out its predictions in May, but why do they get to change them in the middle of Hurricane Season? It doesn't make much sense. NOAA's May outlook called for nine to 14 named storms, of which four to seven could become hurricanes, including one to three major hurricanes.

3 months in, they have a new prediction; surprise! low to below normal number of storms. I don't have a degree in meteorology, but I could've told you that! No storms for the first half of the season, which means we would have to have 14 storms for their predictions to be right. But isn't a prediction just a guess? It just doesn't seem fair that NOAA gets a 'do-over'.

I, myself, am a mother and I just can't wrap my mind around how this can happen?! How do you not remember that your child is in the back seat?! I know I always talk to my daughter, even when she was a baby, constantly looking back and checking on her. These morons need to be ripped of their womanhood! When I say 'ripped' I mean RIPPED, remove their GodDamn uterus and ovaries! they do not deserve to have children. Parents don't do these things; you don't forget your kid in the store, you don't forget your kid at school and you don't forget your kid in a car that's 115 degrees inside!!!! Can you imagine the horrible death these poor babies endured?! I want to cry just thinking about it. I don't even mind if these women don't end up in jail because the guilt from their actions, or lack thereof, is enough to kill them.

It's pretty nice; a medium size room with 2 treadmills, 2 stationary bikes and one of those all-in-one weight machines. It's also within walking distance since it's in my (parents') complex. I'm usually the only one in there at night so I get the TV all to my self. Last night I came across the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC. I work for the public affairs programs at the local PBS affiliate in North Miami, so politics are a huge part of my life, for better or worse.

I've heard of Rachel Maddow before; she is the first openly-lesbian anchor to host a primetime news program in the U.S., which personally is ridiculous! it's 2009 people! When I watch Rachel Maddow, I don't think, 'Hm, this lesbian is such a good anchor'. Gimme a break! Why should homosexuality or heterosexuality play a role in how you do your job? in this case, report the news. SO any hooser, I'm watching her program and I'm instantly hooked!

When I tuned in, Maddow was interviewing, or I should say debating, Pat Buchanan on wether or not Sonia Sotomayor is qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. I love how Maddow lets Buchanan just reveal how narrow-minded he is. Maddow said, "...I think you're wrong...you're playing with fire and you're living in the 1950's..."I don't know how she stays so composed?! I would be livid having a 'debate' with this right-wing old fart! Or as Chris Rovzar of New York Magazine writes, "Pat Buchanan and Rachel Maddow demonstrate why you and your Grandpa will never understand each other". But this is why there is a Rachel Maddow Show and not a Circa1981 Show.
