At the Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturdays, thousands of visitors enjoy FREE programs of art and entertainment each month from 5 to 11 p.m. All evening long, the Museum Café serves a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, and beverages, and a cash bar offers wine and beer. Parking is a flat rate of $4 starting at 5 p.m. All other Saturdays, the Museum closes at 6 p.m.

Join The Bronx Museum of the Arts for a special celebration of New York City's two greatest boroughs. Storytellers, poets, and baseball historians from Brooklyn and the Bronx explore the legendary rivalry and share their borough love stories. Performers will lead a special tour of the museum, sharing personal insights into selected artworks in the exhibitions Urban Archives: Emilio Sanchez in the Bronx and Juan Downey: The Invisible Architect.

Explore the connections between the two boroughs with Bronx storyteller Maria Aponte, Brooklyn storyteller Daisy Rosario, Bronx poet Pearl Quick, Brooklyn poet Tuan X, Yankees historian Tony Morante, and Brooklyn Dodgers historian Bob McGee. After the featured performers, rep your borough in our open forum.

CIRCA ’95 "COOKIN’ UP A CLASSIC"

Cookin’ Up A Classic is the latest single off Circa '95 debut album "FREE LUNCH". It is an ode’ to that time when we would listen to mixtapes, with dope scratching and raw lyrics. Inspired by Nas and Dj Premier, this was our opportunity to bring it to the modern times. The track was produced by J57 of The Brown Bag All Stars and features cuts by DJ Charlie Hustle of the RDAC. We shot the video on a day trip to Hunter Mountain. Being fans of snowboarding it only made sense for us to take a camera and show everyone how we get down. Reph is good on the board for a city kid and Patty is new to the sport but learning quickly. One thing is we aren’t afraid of trying something new. We don't mind falling because somehow we just get right back up. Look out for our future releases, as they promise to be even more ground breaking and unconventional.

Hailing from New York City, Circa ’95 is a Hip-Hop music and media group taking it back to that golden 90’s Hip-Hop era. They recently released their first album "FREE LUNCH" and it is currently available through their website www.circa95.com. Rhyming seamlessly through English and Spanish, the duo PattyDukes & Rephstar are inspired by groups like The Beatnuts, The WuTang Clan, The Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest and radio shows like the Stretch and Bobbito Show. They have performed all over the U.S. gracing the stage with artists like Krs-One, Pitbull, NinaSky, Joel Ortiz and Mala Rodriguez to name a few. They sit on the Board for The Bronx Music Heritage Center and they are currently featured on the HBO Latino show "RoadTrip: NYC". Reph and Patty also teach Hip-Hop, Theater, and Mixed Media Arts to young people throughout New York City. Straight up from the steaming streets of the Big Apple, a young, ambitious rapper called Crosby just released his digital album "New York Posterboy" online, available through the website NewYorkPosterboy.com. The budding artist, also known alternatively as Crosmopolitan and Clockwork Cros, was born in Bellevue to a noted multidisciplinary artist couple from the East Village. From an early age, Crosby became a public figure; he appeared in promo breaks for MTV, fashion photographs by Steven Klein and Tom Munroe and spreads in L'Uomo Vogue, Soma and Pop; posters for the Winter X-Games; music videos by Spike Jonez, Jim Spring, Micheal Gondry and R. Kern and an album cover for Cop Shoot Cop's "Ask Questions Later". He interned at Def Jam, worked at Jeffrey Dietch Projects and for 5 years Crosby produced the multi-artist showcase Hip Hop Howl for the Howl! Festival in the East Village, while also bringing that troupe to the SXSW Festival 3 years running. Currently, Crosby directs music videos for his company Photo-POW and is also the visual artist behind all the cover art and web design for Swizz Beatz' weekly series Monster Mondays.

Crosby has built a vast reservoir of musical material in collaboration with a host of emerging local talent and is now poised to take Gotham by storm with a series of solo album releases, one per month for the next several months, of which "New York Posterboy" is the first. The record is unified by a series of sketches placed within none other than the newsroom of Murdoch's flagship and New York's most popular newpaper, the Post, as a cub reporter that reminds me of my younger self convinces his editor to allow him to break the story of Crosby's splash into the NYC music biz. Using industry beats and a wide range of sampled sounds, Crosby's aural montages express postmodern sensory overload and the funky syncopation of the life of a native New Yorker. Songs such as "The Wait is Ova", "Born in the City" and "Museum Music" show a hip intensity and cultural savvy in his poetry and delivery. Though this is a Hip Hop mixtape, it reminds this pundit of the highly entertaining, hyperkinetic sound of one of his favorite rock records from back in the day: The Mothers of Invention's "Freak Out." His future releases promise to be even more eclectic and innovative.

THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE 1967-1975 mobilizes a treasure trove of 16mm material shot by Swedish journalists who came to the US drawn by stories of urban unrest and revolution. Gaining access to many of the leaders of the Black Power Movement—Stokely Carmichael, Bobby Seale, Angela Davis and Eldridge Cleaver among them—the filmmakers captured them in intimate moments and remarkably unguarded interviews. Thirty years later, this lush collection was found languishing in the basement of Swedish Television. Director Göran Olsson and co-producer Danny Glover bring this footage to light in a mosaic of images, music and narration chronicling the evolution one of our nation's most indelible turning points, the Black Power movement. Music by Questlove and Om'Mas Keith, and commentary from prominent African-American artists and activists who were influenced by the struggle - including Erykah Badu, Harry Belafonte, Talib Kweli, and Melvin Van Peebles - give the historical footage a fresh, contemporary resonance and makes the film an exhilarating, unprecedented account of an American revolution.

On Jan 4th, Circa '95 was invited to participate in The Bronx Music Heritage Center Presents “Hip Hop: Then, Now & Tomorrow” Roundtable Discussion at BRAC (Bronx Art Space) on 305 East 140th Street from 6-8pm.

The roundtable was moderated by Bill Aguado of the Bronx Music Heritage Center with guests: Patty Dukes and Reph Star of Circa '95, Steven Sapp and Mildred Ruiz Sapp of UniVerses, Fred Ones, Jane Gabriels of Pepatian, and Rockafella of Full Circle Dance.

The discussion was lively and highlighted some of the challenges Hip-Hop artists in NYC face and the responsibility we have to keep the culture alive.
