My 96 year old Grandma had decided she wanted to experience camping... so we packed up the horses, our friends and Nanny and went camping. The campsite was Called Houston Mesa; http://www.2az.us/camp-houston.html . It is a very nicely laid out camping area. 2 stalls at each site for the horses that were actually big enough to fit 2 horses in each stall. They supplied water between sites and the firepits. It was very fun BUT the riding inthe beginning of the trail is very rocky and rough. It evens out if you stick to it and turns quite beautiful as you go but there is truly only one major trail out of the camp. Lots of ups and downs..

We had rain on Saturday which actually was quite relaxing and nice. We had a great time. After riding out on Saturday morning, we made it back just in time to unsaddle before the rains came in. A quick lunch and a nap in the tent while the rain pitter pattered away made for a perfect time.

Joe and Diane came with us and we got lucky enought to have Alonso that weekend too.

LOTS OF WILDLIFE!!!!

We hauled up 3 horses, but with 4 riders Alonso had to ride in the backseat at times! For those of you that don't know it, we have a GIANT pool in our backyard that was originally made for equine hydrotherapy. Well I have been a big chicken about swimming the horses. My loving husband pushed me and tada... we did it. Now that we did it, I love watching them do it!

We gradually led them down the ramp that goes into the pool. Most of them were a little hesitant (except Zeeban) but we let them splash and play in there first. After they got comfy, we led them a little farther. A couple of them had a little panick right when they had no footing, but they all seemed to realize quickly they were fine. As a matter of fact, they really seemed to enjoy themselves.

LOTS OF RAIN!!!

Ok, now that we have dried up a little the mosquitos have arrived! Not the best picture, but John was able to get up (without sliding off, he tried to ride her cute little ROUND butt bareback!) and ride her. He got her into a nice little trot and she really seemed to enjoy it. She is really coming around and I think she may be the cleanest horse on the place... she tends to get a bath a night! BUT they want to cut her "bangs" NOOOOOOO!! She is doing fantastic and can touch Zowie's tail while sitting in the saddle. We've been working on her balance and she can now ride all the way around the arena with her eyes closed and both her hands out. This weekend we worked for the first time bareback. Jorga was SUPER!!! She got the hang of Zowie moving under her (it's a totally different feeling) and by the end of the lesson... she was cruising along.

Her friend Angelica was visiting so after the leson Miss Zowie Rose got the pleasure of a scrub down by two very happy little girls. Which is always good.. but tiring. We have 5 new boarders. So getting used to their horses and getting them all settled in has been fun. We went up to the P&M arena on Saturday night to watch our one new boarder, Nicole, run in the Kids on Critters gymkhana. She did really well, coming in 1st in 2 classes and 2nd in two others.

The best part of this weekend was our suprise visitor!! Maria and Julian decided to come out and spend the weekend. Maria got a chance to relax and enjoy watching her dad chase after Julian for a bit. Julian is 13 months old and boy can he cruise! Memo finally figured out how to contain him... ON THE TRACTOR! His little eyes were so big from looking around at everything, his little neck had to be tired from looking back and forth. He liked the puffy dogs, but Baloo (who loves kids) was a little too big for him...maybe the next time. Poor Maria didn't get to sleep because he didn't want to stop looking at everything. We had a great time and got to hang out and show Maria the town and the horses. We didn't get a chance to ride, but next time!

Alonso was here too and wishing he didn't have to start school today... but he does. We got all the things he needed... well he says he needed a laptop and an IPOD... so almost anything. We miss him, especially Isack. We can't wait for the next time the family gets to come back out!!

TESSA'S DOING WELL

Ok, not the best picture, but Tessa is healing up really well. But the pool might be big enough for a couple dolphins! Well this last weekend I had to go to San Diego for work and decided to take the family with and go to Sea World.

We had a great time, the work part was...well work. We stayed at a beautiful place called the Paradise Point http://www.paradisepointresort.com/ it was soooo pretty. Right ont he beach and surrounded by tropical plants everywhere. It was right across the bay from Sea World http://www.seaworld.com/ so we were able to see the fireworks from our room the first night.

Anyway, it was also a good week at the ranch. We had 5 new boarders come in. I will tell you more on them later!

Ohhh yea, I can't forget this lovely picture of my husband at Old Town San Diego!!! Poor Tessa decided she didn't want to stay in her pen with the lightening and tried to break out. She ended up putting a big hole right in the center fo her chest. Luckily for us it was one daya BEFORE Dr. Cooper went on vacation!! :) He happily (ok maybe not happily) came out and patched her up. He said if it had been one inch over to the side, then she would have gone through her heart. She's doing well, hanging out with her boyfriend Mack and it seems to be healing. She is such a good girl. She stood super still the whole time we were working on her.. oh yea it might have been all the dope we gave her too. We have to clean it every day and she gets lots of drugs for awhile. Keep your fingers crossed for her!

SO MUCH GOING ON

that I keep forgetting to post!! Let's start with the exciting stuff- Turkeys are getting bigger- Memo thinks we will be eating them, little does he know I have named them and they won't be going anywhere except out for a walk! Alonso is still here for the summer and having a blast. He is doing really well with the horses and I am proud of how good he is at Basketball. His team is getting better, they've won a couple games so far!

We had a BIG 4th of July party and it was FUN! the pool was a perfect temperature, the food was yummy and the fireworks were a blast! We almost had to cancel due to the storms, but they ended up blowing over.

We've had the first of our monsoons and man have they been strong. Flooding everywhere and LOTS of rain.

Lessons have been quiet lately due to the rain and the storms at night, not to mention the heat!

Meet Mary

Mary has been taking lessons with us for about 3 months. She started off on Zowie but has progressed so quickly she is now on Mark. Mary may seem tiny but she is a force to be dealt with. She has just began trotting and this Saturday really started getting the hang of posting. She is a master of posting at the walk and it has definitely helped her on her balance. She trotted like a pro and really got into the groove of the post by the end of the lesson. Afterwards, her and McKenzzie spent a couple hours playing with the horses and giving them baths.

Dog Days of Summer

As you can see Isack is no longer a foster... he has taken our hearts and made us fall in love with his crazy, needy, chewy neuroticness! Here he is dug in a hole he made right in front of the water line. He really is a nice dog.

Well this week is a little weird, Alonso has left for camp up in Prescott. It sure seems quiet without him here. He was very nervous but excited. I think his dad was more nervous. Once we got him checked into his cabin and walked around the camp, he gave us a hug and zoomed off with no look back. We know he'll have fun!!

This Saturday we got to go to Julian's (our grandson) birthday party. He is growing so fast it's unbelievable. Maria is back in school and studying nursing... too much dirty work! I don't know how she does it. Work and a 1 year old! YIKES! We are super proud of her though. Judging from Julian's happiness, she will take great care of her patients!

TOO CUTE NOT TO POST

My father was in town this week and we all had a blast taking a little R&R. We had a very busy week... we went to Pinetop, rode horses, had a big Father's day / Memo's Birthday party/ had a slumber party.... anyway we were busy!!! We had Clara and Evelyn (my nieces) stay the night so they could spend some more time with their Papa Bass. It was a blast. We all played with the horses and rode. Evelyn has no fear. She may be tiny but she'll ride like the wind given the chance. Here is a picture of the nights end and her leading Captain, one of our biggest horses to his stall. Well now life goes back to normal.. Lessons, training, work and HEAT! BUT we do have the pool up and running. I think we are going to try and swim Milo this week. I think he'll like it!

WE HAVE TURKEYS!!!!!!!!!!

So you all know we bought baby peeps with our friends this winter. Well... there are 2 of them that are growing kind of funny. We just figured since we ordered a binch of weird ones that they werre, well weird! Anyway, one of the fathers of my lesson kids was looking in there the other day and said "What are you going to do with the Turkeys?" YIKES... when I looked, there seems to be no doubt we have turkeys!! We looked them up on line and they most definately look like turkeys, not chickens!

What do you think??

MACKENZZIE AND MARK

Meet Mackenzzie- She has been taking lessons with us for a couple of months. She was at our big show and was a great hand in cleaning the horses up.

She loves playing with Mark in the water and as you can see, he loves it too!

GIANT POOL OF ICK!!!

Well we stripped our horsey swimming pool down and are in the middle of re-vamping it. In case you have never seen it here is a picture of our giant pool. We emptied it and bleached the heck out of it. Now we are painting it. After that we will be changing out the pump and filter. it's been A LOT of work but I can't wait to have it back up and running!!! Pretty soon you'll see pictures of horses and kids swimming!! That tiny speck at the bottom is Memo painting. After the rain finally stopped and all the horses stopped shivering, the weekend weather was perfect. It was chilly (70's ) and sunny. We had a great time riding. Alonso is really learning his stuff. Pretty soon he's going to be calf roping and riding broncos. Memo and I spent the Saturday and SUnday workign hard on Captain and Zee. We were riding them and getting them to relax. Zee is now to a point of trotting as well. It's so exciting seeing these little babies that came to us so scared turning into such incredible horses.

Yesterday was fun time!!! We all (Alonso, Memo and I) went for a 2.5 hour trail ride out intot he desert. We ran into and Eagles nest. It was incredible!! While we were out there, we decided to go to the local Circle K and get something to drink.
