Circle City Ringers welcomes Karen Alfrey and Tracy Damone as new ringers to the ensemble. Both women participated in Open Auditions on January 10, 2013.

Festival of Carols

Circle City Ringers is proud to collaborate with the Indianapolis Symphony Choir to present Festival of Carols. (In the image CCR ringers pause a moment to have their picture taken while warming up before the concert at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.) Two more Festival of Carols concerts are scheduled for December 22 at the Palladium in Carmel. Tickets can be purchased from the Indianapolis Symphony Choir at the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir website.

CCR Fundraiser a Big Success!

CCR’s Soup Supper and Silent Auction Fundraiser was a big success! Held on Thursday, July 5, at the Garfield Park Arts Center in Indianapolis, the event raised $940 from ticket sales and $1,883 from its silent auction. Combined with cash donations and funds raised from both the carwash and bake sale, CCR has raised a total of $4,122.

These funds will help offset expenses associated with travel, hotel, and registration for all members of CCR to attend the Handbell Musicians of America National Seminar and perform the Seminar’s Opening Concert.

Many thanks to all the donors who gave not only cash donations, but also gave items for the silent auction, and food for the soup supper. Many thanks also to all the volunteers that selflessly gave of their time and effort. We could not have done it without you. Next stop: CINCINNATI!

CCR Carwash and Bake Sale

CCR is making progress toward raising funds for their trip to Cincinnati! On Saturday, June 30, 11 intrepid members of CCR braved the scorching heat to wash cars and sell fabulous breads and cookies, raising $331.50. Our many thanks to Pam from Sears Hardware, who provided parking lot space, water, and tons of support.

Send CCR to Cincy!

You are invited to attend “Send CCR to Cincy!”, a fundraiser the Circle City Ringers are holding on Thursday, July 5, 2012, to raise money to cover expenses for their trip to Cincinnati on July 18. They have been invited to perform the opening concert at the National Seminar 2012, sponsored by the Handbell Musicians of America.

As you know, it can be expensive to send 14 people to a national conference for four days, so the Circle City Ringers are having a fundraiser to cover travel expenses, hotel, conference registration, and meals. Several of the CCR members will also be part of performing the national anthem at a Cincinnati Reds baseball game, where they are hoping to break the Guinness Record for the largest ensemble to perform it at a MLB game.

The fundraiser event involves a Soup Supper with soups donated by local restaurants, along with a Silent Auction and a Concert (a dress rehearsal for the performance in Cincinnati).

Bells of Unity Festival

CCR had the privilege of participating in the 8th Bi-Annual Bells of Unity Festival at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Carmel, IN on April 22. Bells of Unity targets youth handbell ensembles in the greater Indianapolis area. Members of CCR ran workshops for the youth ringers, and CCR’s Mike Keller directed the two mass ringing pieces. CCR performed the final concert along with the massed ringing pieces.

CCR Ringer Attends Mission Trip

CCR Ringer Michelle recently served in mission to Belize, on the coast of Central America. Her team traveled to Ambergris Caye to work at the Holy Cross Anglican School, located in the community of San Mateo. San Mateo is very poor, with little electricity and water, no sewage, and only recently-built roads. Despite the setbacks, the residents are striving to build a new, strong community. Holy Cross is critical to this endeavor by providing affordable education to 450 children, as well as providing for them two meals per day, routine services at an on-site dental clinic, and by housing the largest computer lab in Belize—all achieved through various donations and the efforts of volunteer workers.

Michelle helped with construction, painting, and leading a Vacation Bible School for the students while they were on Easter Holiday. In just five days, Michelle’s construction team sawed a wall in half, rotated the sides outward to fill in a breezeway, and finished the walls and ceiling with drywall and paint. Their efforts turned a small preschool room into a larger space, complete with two small bathrooms.

She looks forward to another opportunity to serve in Belize… maybe next time with handbells!!

CCR Members Aid Tornado Victims

Mission Trip to Birmingham, Alabama
In April 2011 and again in January 2012 the Birmingham, Alabama area was hit with massive devastating tornadoes. Through Lutheran Disaster Relief, 6 members of King of Glory Lutheran Church (Carmel, IN) went to help with the rebuilding process. The sites of destruction we saw were heart breaking and
overwhelming. We didn’t know how just the 6 of us could make a difference. We decided: One step at a time – every little bit we did contributed to the whole and helped.

By the end of the week we had sorted debris, put in insulation on a new rebuilt home and repaired roofs on an existing damaged home. What we did mattered to those we served. God used our hearts, hands, feet, muscles, brains and mouths to serve those in need. As we left Miss Lisa, we reminded her that the work we did was a gift from God and every time she looks at the roof to remember that God walks with her through the difficult times.

Please remember in your prayers Miss Lisa, Mrs. Taylor and all the survivors from the devastating tornadoes that have occurred throughout the South and Midwest this past year.

As social ministry looks into our next mission trip planned for July 8-14 watch for further details to come on how you can help. We are looking into going to Henryville, IN to help with the recent tornadoes there. Thank you to all who prayed for us and supported us as we traveled.

CCR has a New Trailer

The Circle City Ringers are the proud owners of a new trailer!

As of March 2012, we no longer need to use several members’ personal vehicles to haul our bells and equipment. All of our equipment, including luggage, can fit in our new trailer.

Soon we will have our CCR logo painted on the sides, so we’ll be stylish and constantly advertising when we travel.

Festival of Bells 2012

The Circle City Ringers performed a combined concert today with the handbell choirs of Central Christian Church and Broadway United Methodist Church, both of Anderson, IN. The concert capped off a day of rehearsal and included several pieces played by each individual choir and several with all three combined.

Concert favorites included “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” which was performed in a fast “swing” tempo by all three choirs together, and a combined finale piece accompanied by Martin Ellis on the organ.
