Cisco Router information including best choices for studying, small business & enterprise!

Selecting the correct router is can take longer than ordering the damn thing sometimes, so lets make sure you get it right ok?

You really need to do your homework on this, here are a few things you should review:

Performance
How many packets per second can the router forward?

Upgradability
Meaning can you upgrade your RAM and Flash?

Redundancy
Does this Cisco router offer redundancy when running at full mass? Does it include hot-swappable power supplies or high-availability protocol switching like HSRP or VRRP?

Manageability
It is easy or hard to manage the Cisco router? Does it come with a GUI interface or is it all command line? Will you be able to manage all of your routers easily once your network grows?

Expandability
How many WAN and LAN interfaces are supported by the router and how many can you add in future use?

Software features
Do you need a specific interface? POE? Vo-IP?

3 Categories of Cisco Routers

Based on the previous home you’ve done from the top you’ll be able to figure out what category you may fall in:

Home Use, Small Business, Enterprise (From left to right in the following screenshots)
