A major Supreme Court victory was handed down today. 

In an 8–1 decision in Chiles v. Salazar, the Court ruled in favor of free speech, religious freedom, and the right to seek talk therapy aligned with one’s beliefs. 

Family Policy Alliance was part of this win. 

Since 2013, alongside our network of state Family Policy Councils, we have worked to oppose unconstitutional bans on talk therapy. In this case, we filed a key amicus brief with Summit Ministries and Colson Center in support of Kaley Chiles. 

Colorado had banned certain voluntary talk therapy conversations, claiming they were “conduct,” not speech. The Supreme Court made it clear: talk therapy is speech and it is protected. The government cannot censor private conversations between a counselor and client. 

Why this decision matters: 

• Protects free speech, even in private conversations  

• Defends religious freedom  

• Ensures people can seek care aligned with their beliefs  

This victory was years in the making, and it would not have happened without faithful supporters like you.

Take Action: Tell Your Senator to Save Girls Sports and Help Not Harm Children

Politics matter because policy matters because people matter. 

And if you’ve ever wondered whether state policy really matters, look at what is happening in Washington, D.C., tonight. 

Right now, the United States Senate is debating and voting on the SAVE America Act, which includes several key issues that Family Policy Alliance and our network of state Family Policy Councils have been leading the charge on for years. 

Two of the policy issues central to the SAVE America Act are especially important to us: 

• Save Girls’ Sports: Keeping men out of women’s athletics
• Help Not Harm: Protecting children from transgender drugs and surgeries 

Historic impact from Family Policy Alliance and our state Family Policy Councils: 

• FPA began sounding the alarm on girls’ sports as in 2016, when the issue was just emerging in a few states. In 2020, our allied team in Idaho helped lead the effort to pass the first Save Girls’ Sports law in the nation, launching a movement that has now spread across the country. 

• We also drafted the first Help Not Harm legislation, which passed in Arkansas in 2021, and helped build the national coalition working to protect children. 

• Because of the leadership of our Family Policy Councils, 27 states have now passed Save Girls’ Sports laws and 27 states have passed Help Not Harm protections for children. 

The SAVE America Act also includes provisions to strengthen election integrity, an issue that matters deeply to us as we work to encourage Christians across the country to Pray, Vote, and Engage in every election. 

This moment proves what we have long known: state policy truly matters.

A 14-year-old girl in Virginia named Sage told school staff she thought she wanted to live as a boy. Her parents were never informed. 

Instead, the school allowed her to socially transition at school while keeping it hidden from her family. What happened next would take this young girl hundreds of miles from home and into the nightmare of sex trafficking. 

On this week’s episode, Craig DeRoche sits down with Victoria Cobb, president of The Family Foundation of Virginia, to unpack the shocking story of Sage Blair and why it’s become a national wake-up call for parents. 

Victoria shares how Sage’s gender confusion was kept from her parents, how she was lured online and trafficked, and how a legal battle was required to reunite her with her family.  

Today, thanks to the direct help of the Family Foundation of Virginia, Sage is on a path toward healing, and her story is helping drive efforts to ensure schools cannot hide a child’s gender transition from parents. This week, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the Ninth Circuit’s stay on Mirabelli v. Bonta, effectively blocking a California policy pushed by progressive state leaders that discouraged schools from notifying parents when their children attempted to change their gender identity while at public schools.

The Court’s decision allows a legal challenge from parents to move forward and temporarily stops the policy while the case continues. It is an important step toward restoring parents’ right to know what is happening in their children’s lives and to provide the best care and guidance possible.

For years, activists have pushed policies allowing schools to socially transition a child’s gender identity without a parent’s knowledge or consent. In some cases, school officials were encouraged to keep parents in the dark.

This begs a simple but important question: Whose kids are they?

At Family Policy Alliance, we have been advocating for parental rights for years alongside our nationwide network of Family Policy Councils.
