Tonight we ease into the busy holiday season with a blend of new releases and holiday-themed tunes. Sad news this week as cancer felled not only Steve Jobs but the two folk legends mentioned above. Their music lives on, of course, and we heard some of it on tonight's show. Festival season is here, and tonight I chatted with 2 of the world/roots bands taking part in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. At 8:40 I spoke with Natalie of Australia's Blue King Brown. At 9:30 I spoke with Aaron of Toronto's Jaffa Road. Both bands worth seeing live this Canada Day weekend if you're in town. We also paid musical tribute to the late Gaye Delorme, and finished tonight's show with a song written from the viewpoint of Paul Revere's horse.(!) The 2010 Winter Olympics are but a (mostly) lovely memory, but the Cultural Olympiad continues. The Winter Paralympics begin March 12 and provide another opportunity to hear free musical performances in our city. We pay tribute to Oscar Brand, Winnipeg native & dj of world's longest-running radio show (it's folk!), who turns 90 this Sunday.
