We’ll be broadcasting the entire AMS Welcome Back BBQ featuring Fake Problems, The Menzingers and Gaslight Anthem live on CiTR! This event is for UBC students but all you non-students can catch the action live on CiTR. Tune in on Friday September 10th from 2 – 8pm to hear live music + interviews.

We’re also broadcasting some of the Live @ Lunch concerts from the SUB courtyard. On Thursday Sept 10th tune in at noon to hear Teen Daze and on Monday Sept 13th tune in at noon to hear Role Mach. Come down to say hi and learn about volunteer opportunities at CiTR!

The Gaslight Anthem

Ben of The Gaslight Anthem talks about their new album American Slang, about touring and how being in a rock band has taught him to be a better boyfriend.

The Gaslight Anthem will be playing at UBC Welcome Back BBQ on Sept 10, from 2-8pm on MacInnes Field. (This show is for UBC STUDENTS ONLY.)

German super-group Die Roten Punkte

German punk group Die Roten Punkte came to the CiTR studio and chatted with Arts Report host Adam Janusz about their latest album Kunst Rock. They’ll be at this year’s Vancouver Fringe Festival!

Garotas Suecas

Irina of Sao Paulo rock band Garotas Suecas (Swedish Girls in portuguese) ponder the rise in popularity of Brazilian music and being the band’s lone female.

Are You Aware Mix Tape features Shad

On Thursday, September 2, Polaris Prize nominated rapper Shad will be interviewed on Are You Aware: Music That Has Something To Say from 6-7:30pm. We are also excited to hear his Are You Aware Mix Tape, where we ask socially conscious artists to program songs for the show. They choose three songs that inspire them to be involved in positive change and one of their own songs that reflects their sentiments around positive change. We interview them on their song choice, their social justice work and their music. Listen in to hear Shad’s own perspective!

We are excited to announce a night of film, rock n’ roll & mayhem to kick off and raise funds for the upcoming screening tour for the No Fun City documentary. Saturday, September 4th at The Rickshaw Theatre, screening at 7:00pm, bands at 9:00pm.
The night will include performances by VAPID, TWIN CRYSTALS, DEFEKTORS AND THE FURIES + SPECIAL GUESTS! DJ J-Hag from 3 Inches of Blood will be DJing throughout the night. As well as raising funds for the film’s upcoming tour, this event will be an opportunity to celebrate a thriving indie music community and a chance to raise awareness of local organizations such as the Safe Amplification Site Society.

No Fun City reveals venues being closed, parties being raided and musicians resorting to playing in illegal venues, warehouses, and even parking lots in order to keep the scene alive. The story is told through interviews with legendary Vancouver bands such as Skinny Puppy and DOA as well as current Vancouver bands like 3 Inches of Blood and Japandroids and features live high-energy music performances, candid behind the scenes action, and a throttling Rock’n’Roll soundtrack.
