“How to use the NEW STANDARD in MUSIC PRODUCTION: ABLETON LIVE – in a way you never thought possible!

Ever have ideas that come naturally, then slip away as you figure out how to execute them? This workshop is about spontaneous production. I will show you how to produce a song by layering sounds as they spring from your brain, without any flow interruption, so you can make music at the same time as the music moves you, with no (or very little) technical tinkering.

ALSO INCLUDED a demo of a very cool tool that lets you play the keyboard without even knowing anything about playing the keyboard. Play along to your favorite songs without fear of playing a sour note!

As International Women’s Day is celebrated across the world we spoke with a host of impressive and intelligent people about gender (in)equality at UBC, the rights of women and what you can do for a greater relationship with your neighbour. As well, we heard from the fine folks at the UBYSSEY and discussed the recent showing of Chronicles of the Refugee, a documentary detailing the plight of Palestinian refugees, to coincide with Israel Apartheid Week.

MUSIC WASTE 2010 – submit NOW

You’ve got just under 6 weeks to grab your friends and make some noise then send it over to our friends at submissions@musicwaste.ca

All they need is a myspace link, and a some info on contacting you. That’s it! If you do the facebook thing, join the group for updates.

The festival takes place this year June 2-5th. If you’re in a band, or know someone in a band, tell them to submit before the April 15th deadline, and they, or you, could be part of the best thing to happen to Vancouver’s music scene, ever.

Grande Mothers show CANCELLED!

Oh no. Those dudes at the border didn’t let a couple members through, so the Grande Mothers show that was supposed to take place tonight at the Biltmore is canceled.

Cross your fingers for a rescheduled date, but as for now there is no word.
You can refund your tickets from where you bought them.

Annual General Meeting + Programmers Meeting + Volunteer Appreciation Party MARCH 4!

It is very important that you attend our Annual General Meeting on Thursday, March 4 in the AMS Council Chambers SUB 206 – this is where we give you an yearly update on all things CiTR, and are accountable to you!

The meeting will be one hour only, from 6:30-7:30 pm, with PRIZES. Come early if you need to renew your membership! This is also the meeting where the membership will be electing your first membership board representatives. I hope some of you are excited about sitting on the board!

A programmers meeting follows the AGM from 7:30-8:30 pm, with a volunteer appreciation event to held held afterward at Cabin (2741 W. 4th). For more info on the volunteer night, check out the Facebook group and don’t forget to RSVP!

Dear Fundrive Donors,
Thank you for donating to CiTR’s 2009 Fundrive. It was a very successful Fundrive – and we exceeded our goal by raising over $26,000! To put it simply, we could not have done it without you. Yes, you! You showed us just how much you care about quality, independent programming.

With the holiday season and Olympics craziness all behind us, we will be spending a week recognizing you for your support. We are pleased to announce that our Donor Recognition Week will be run from Monday, March 8th to Monday, March 15th. Be sure to tune in during this week, as we will be recognizing you on-air (by first name) during the show that you donated. All donors who didn’t specify a particular show will be acknowledged at the beginning of News 101 at 5:00 pm on Friday, March 12.

The Grande Mothers were denied entry into Canada last night, on their way to Vancouver to play the Biltmore Cabaret tonight. Jackfruit will still play the show, along with local DJs, and COVER IS FREE, so come on out. All ticket holders will receive refunds.
