For the fourth year in a row, City Logistics is proud to uplift KwaMashu’s brightest young minds through our annual
computer literacy initiative and Social Upliftment Programme and Social Upliftment Programme.

This year, the top 8 achievers from various high schools—selected according to their 2025 trial examination results—
each received an ASUS i5 laptop, ensuring they are equipped for the demands of tertiary education. The outstanding
learners were honoured during a special handover ceremony hosted at the City Logistics Head Office.

The handover ceremony was a celebration of hard work, resilience and opportunity.

You can watch the video on Facebook here.

Bridging the Digital Divide – Together

This programme continues to thrive thanks to the generous support of our valued partners, each playing a vital role
in equipping these achievers for success.

City Logistics sponsored eight ASUS i5 laptops, giving learners access to reliable, high-performance technology that
will support them throughout their studies.

To ensure every learner can stay connected and make full use of their devices, Vodacom South Africa contributed
eight LTE dongles/routers, along with a set of thoughtful branded essentials including a glass water bottle, mug,
notebook, pencil and lanyard. Each learner also received a SIM card loaded with 10GB of data per month for 12
months, removing one of the biggest barriers to accessing online learning.

Our external partners further enhanced this support:
– An external supplier donated laptop bags, ensuring safe and easy transport of the devices.
– First Technology provided Microsoft 365 Pro Plus licences, giving learners access to essential academic software
from day one.

Together, these contributions form a powerful digital toolkit—one that ensures every learner is fully equipped,
connected and prepared to take on the next chapter of their academic journey with confidence.

Voices of Gratitude

This year’s messages of gratitude were deeply moving, with many learners sharing how this initiative is shaping not
only their academic journey, but their confidence, dreams and sense of possibility.

One of the most inspiring reflections came from B. Simelane, who shared a dream of creating a Mathematics study
guide to support younger learners in the community. With access to a laptop and the full Microsoft suite, this vision
finally feels achievable. The learner described this opportunity as a chance not only to grow personally, but to uplift
others — a powerful reminder of how education can transform whole communities.

S. Nzama expressed how the donation has an immediate and life-changing impact. The laptop makes it possible to
meet the University of Cape Town’s requirement for first-year students, removing what would have been a major
financial barrier. This support was described as a “fortune,” one that will shape the learner’s academic path from day
one.

Coming from a disadvantaged background, S. Makhathini highlighted how this opportunity will “make severe
changes” in daily life and academic progress. With reliable equipment and data, the learner can now attend online
classes, complete assignments and prepare for tertiary studies with confidence.

A. Khwela described receiving a laptop, full Microsoft licence and 12 months of data as truly “life changing.” With
university ahead, the learner expressed deep relief at having the necessary tools to study, research and work
professionally — support that lifts a significant weight from both the learner and their family.

For M. Sphelele, this experience marked a turning point. The initiative strengthened the learner’s belief in personal
potential, proving that goals once thought out of reach are now entirely possible.

Z. Siyamthanda shared how receiving a laptop felt like a door opening, making dreams feel closer and more
achievable. The ceremony, filled with support and encouragement, added even more meaning to an already special
moment.

Finally, O. Bixi spoke about how access to a laptop, a bag and a full year of data feels like stepping into a world of new
possibilities. Coming from limited access to technology, the learner expressed how these tools will “expand my mind
to bigger opportunities” and support growth in ways previously unimaginable.

These stories, each unique yet deeply connected, remind us why this programme matters. Every laptop represents a
dream supported, a barrier removed and a young South African preparing to take confident steps towards a brighter
future.

According to Authority chief Osama Rabie, discounts of between 12% and 15% are being considered as ongoing attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Red Sea shipping continue to disrupt global trade routes and impact vessel movements through the canal.

Rabie told the privately owned Sada al-Balad television channel in a phone interview that the discounts could be applied within days after ratification by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Egypt’s Suez Canal will offer a 15% rebate for container ships with a net tonnage of 130,000 metric tonnes or more, in light of the positive security developments in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab Strait, the Suez Canal Authority said.

Canal revenue suffers sharp decline

He spoke after revenue from the canal continued to plunge on the back of attacks on shipping by Yemen’s Houthis, who say they are trying to shut off cargo bound for Israel in support of Palestinians in Gaza, but who are also chasing ships away from the canal.

Revenue from the Suez Canal, a key source of foreign currency for Egypt, plummeted to $880.9m, in the fourth quarter from $2.40bn a year earlier, the victim of Houthi attacks, central bank figures showed earlier this month.

Last week, Rabie met with representatives from shipping agencies who called for temporary incentives that would help offset increased insurance costs for vessels operating in the Red Sea, which they deemed a high-risk zone.

The meeting followed an Oman-mediated ceasefire between the United States and the Houthis, under which the U.S. agreed to stop bombing the Houthis in Yemen in return for the group agreeing to stop attacking US ships. The accord with the Iran-backed group does not include Israel.

Consumers are increasingly overwhelmed by marketing, from traditional channels like radio, television, and print to social media on mobile devices. This can lead to ‘ad fatigue,’ where overexposure to ads causes disinterest in a brand. A recent UK survey found that 91% of social media users see too many ads, with 37% blocking specific ones and 35% unfollowing or blocking brands due to advertising.

As competition for consumer attention intensifies, businesses are seeking creative ways to stand out from their counterparts. In recent years, truck advertising – particularly on long-distance trucks – has gained popularity. These mobile billboards provide a cost-effective way to increase brand visibility and reach new customers nationwide, offering a broader audience than static billboards.

Truck advertising offers myriad benefits. For instance, a truck travelling the 1,400 km journey from Johannesburg to Cape Town can expose thousands of motorists to its message. According to a study conducted by Transpromotion, truck advertising is noticed by 98% of people travelling in cars. Unlike social media marketing, which can feel intrusive, this form of advertising reaches audiences organically. Furthermore, truck advertisements are constantly on the move, reaching new viewers without adding any cost to the advertising bill.

According to City Logistics, one of South Africa’s largest logistics companies, demand for branded delivery vehicles has increased significantly. The fleet has seen a large increase in trucks emblazoned with branding, highlighting the popularity of this advertising medium.

“Many businesses are leveraging vehicle fleets as mobile advertising tools, transforming everyday logistics into impactful branding opportunities,” commented City Logistics CEO Ryan Gaines.

This approach increases visibility and allows companies to communicate key initiatives, such as corporate social responsibility, through creative and meaningful designs.

Exposure is a significant advantage for businesses aiming to increase brand visibility. Take one of City Logistics’ valued truck advertising clients, for example: their mobile advertising campaign gained substantial traction, and a fleet of 12 trucks covered approximately 241,000km between September and November. This impressive mileage ensured that their brand reached countless viewers on the move.

The possibilities for mobile advertising continue to expand. For example, incorporating QR codes could enable businesses to track interactions and direct people to specific websites or online platforms. Companies can experiment with these unique approaches, demonstrating how these moving billboards could become more interactive. This integration has the potential to enhance engagement and increase website traffic.

Static billboards can cost as much as R200,000 per month, depending on their location. In comparison, mobile advertising on trucks presents a more affordable option. Branding a smaller truck offers as much as 98% savings compared to more expensive billboards, with larger line-haul trucks providing approximately a 95% saving. Pricing is determined by factors such as the number of trucks, contract duration, and the choice of payment options.

Mobile truck advertising offers businesses an effective way to stand out in a crowded advertising space. With its broad reach, cost-effectiveness, and ability to engage audiences organically, it provides a strong alternative to traditional and digital channels.

At City Logistics, we believe that education is the most powerful tool for unlocking potential and creating lasting change. It is with this belief that we are proud to support 8 talented students from six Kwa Mashu schools, selected for their exceptional matric trial results. These students have shown incredible dedication and perseverance, and we are honoured to be a part of their educational journey.

As part of our ongoing commitment to youth education and empowerment, City Logistics has donated 8 laptops to these deserving scholars. The laptops will provide them with the necessary resources to continue their studies and achieve their academic goals. We understand that access to technology plays a vital role in a student’s success, especially in today’s digital world, and we are thrilled to equip these students with the tools they need to thrive.

We are also incredibly grateful to our valued partner, Vodacom, for their generous contribution to this initiative. Thanks to Vodacom, each student has received a goodie bag containing 10GB of anytime data and 20GB of Night Owl data for 12 months. This data will ensure that the scholars stay connected, access online learning platforms, and continue to excel in their studies, no matter the time of day or night. Connectivity is an essential part of modern education, and we’re proud to help make that possible for these students.

The students benefiting from this initiative are from the following Kwa Mashu schools:

Dr JL Dube High School

J E Ndlovu High School

Nqabakazulu Comprehensive High School

Sivanada Technical High School

Kwesethu High School

Mzuvele High School

These schools are home to some of the brightest young minds in the area, and we couldn’t be more excited to see where their hard work and determination will take them. We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to each of these incredible students for their dedication and achievements. Your future is truly bright, and we are honoured to play a small part in supporting your educational goals.

At City Logistics, we understand the importance of giving back to the communities that have supported us. This initiative is just one of the many ways we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of young people in South Africa. We remain committed to supporting youth education, community development, and the growth of future leaders who will go on to shape a better tomorrow.

We look forward to continuing our efforts to empower the next generation and make a lasting difference in our communities. Stay tuned for more updates on how City Logistics is contributing to education, development, and social change in South Africa.

That’s why we are proud to collaborate with Taking Care of Business (TCB), a South African nonprofit social enterprise empowering woman through business, helping unemployed South Africans, particularly women, to build sustainable livelihoods through small business opportunities.

City Logistics supports TCB in managing the collection and delivery of donations from valued retail partners like Edgars, LEGiT, Mr Price Group, PEP and Pick n Pay Clothing. These contributions are transported to TCB’s distribution centres, where they form the foundation for entrepreneurial success and community upliftment.

How City Logistics Drives TCB’s Impact

Through our collaboration with TCB, we help enhance efficiency and expand their reach, leveraging our extensive supply chain capabilities and regional network.

Retailer Collections: Our team collects donations from TCB’s trusted retail donation partners across the country. This ensures safe and efficient transportation of items, saving TCB valuable time and resources.

Seamless Delivery: Once collected, donations are delivered to TCB’s distribution centres, where they are sorted, prepared, and made ready for resale. This ensures that items are available to women entrepreneurs, helping them generate income.

Empowering Women and Communities: Our logistics support not only improves stock availability but also enables women in TCB’s programmes to grow their businesses, support their families, and uplift their communities.

Shared Values in Sustainability and Empowerment

Our collaboration with TCB is deeply rooted in shared values of sustainability and empowerment. By facilitating the redistribution of surplus clothing, we contribute to a circular economy in fashion that reduces waste and extends the life of valuable goods. Every donation we transport helps protect the environment while creating opportunities for women entrepreneurs to thrive in their communities.

Tracey Gilmore, Co-Founder of TCB, Shares Her Thoughts

“Having the right stock, at the right place, at the right time, is a crucial part of our work. We rely on reliable logistics partners like City Logistics to ensure the generous donations we receive are delivered exactly where they’re needed most. These items are empowering families and helping them build brighter futures.” – Tracey Gilmore, Co-Founder of TCB

City Logistics is honoured to play a pivotal role in TCB’s mission. We understand the power of logistics in connecting resources to those who need them, and our collaboration with TCB extends that power toward a cause that benefits individuals, communities, and the environment.

By supporting small businesses within the circular economy in fashion, we contribute to sustainable growth, waste reduction, and positive social impact across South Africa. As TCB continues to grow, we look forward to being by their side—delivering more than just goods, but a pathway to success for South African women.

We're thrilled to announce that we've achieved SARS Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification status!

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve achieved SARS Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification status!

An AEO is a company involved in the international movement of goods, approved by SARS Customs as complying with World Customs Organization or equivalent compliance and supply chain security standards. This milestone is a testament to our unwavering dedication not only to logistics excellence but also to trade security and compliance.

We couldn’t have reached this milestone without the hard work and dedication of our highly knowledgeable and experienced Clearing Manager, Zhieer Allie, and his team. Their commitment to excellence has truly paid off.

Here’s to continued growth as we leverage our AEO certification to further streamline our operations and provide even greater value to our customers.

For the second year in a row, the top two matriculants from four KwaMashu high schools received laptops, to incentivize and better equip them for their journey into the next step of their lives, tertiary education.

City Logistics donated the eight laptops to these learners, based on their 2023 trial examination results. As part of Empowering Our Youth Through Computer Literacy and Social Upliftment Programme, this City Logistics Community initiative will smoothen these soon-to-be matriculants’ transition to university, by bridging the digital divide between township learners and those more fortunate.

In association with the KwaMashu Soccer Legends (KSL), the top learners from Isibonelo, Dr J L Dube, Vuyiswa Mtolo and Zakhe High Schools, received their top-of-the-range i3 ASUS laptops at the City Logistics head office in River Horse Valley in Durban, on 28 November.

Mr Sipho Magwaza, principal of the Dr JL Dube High School and spokesperson for the KSL, complimented 2022’s inaugural initiative, “The investment was well-received and made a huge difference in the lives of our new entrants, currently completing their second year of studies.”

“We wish to salute this brave act in times of economic meltdown and downslide in the business environment. The laptop donations afford our learners to being on the same footing with the rest of their peers at university,” he added.

KSL and City Logistics both recognise that past matric learners excelled at school but struggle with accessing computers at tertiary institutions due to their socio-economic backgrounds.

Seven out of the eight recipients are females, hoping to pursue their studies and in turn uplift their communities once their studies are complete.

“This is a celebration of academic achievements, determination and the promise of a brighter future. Dedication, hard work and passion is what sets these learners apart and this is in honour of their remarkable accomplishments,” said Anthony Naicker, City Logistics Managing Director of Line Haul and Support Services.

Department of Education member Mr Khuzwayo, representing Mr Sangweni, said, “Our department is very grateful for this gesture and the working relationship between City Logistics and our schools. This initiative is much appreciated and very close to our hearts. We would like to see more companies mirroring City Logistics, in assisting our learners to succeed in their tertiary studies.”
