It’s no secret the real estate market is full of foreclosures and properties on short sale. This has severely backed up the court system – it’s just inundated with foreclosure cases. This past Sunday, the New York Times ran the story “Florida’s High-Speed Answer to a Foreclosure Mess,” it was the front-page of the business section. It’s not just a hot topic in Florida, but a matter that has plagued our entire country.

Foreclosed properties present opportunities to buyers hunting for great deals; however, the legal system is struggling to process the work. The New York Times article gives readers a real sense of the amount of workload being dealt with in Florida…

“Florida law requires that banks argue their cases before a judge if they want to recover property from borrowers in default, and 471,000 such cases were pending in Florida at the end of July, according to the Florida State Courts administration.”

It’s unfortunate that so many individuals are going through a foreclosure process. At the same time this is a tough situation for those borrowers, this is clearly a difficult case management issue for the court system. This creates another glaring matter, is each foreclosure case on the docket being handled justly with care and diligence for each party involved? AVENTURA, Fla. – The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center announced today that its on site box office, located at 3385 N.E. 188th St. in Aventura, is now open. The box office will be open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, as well 90 minutes prior to performances.

Shows currently on sale at the 14,864- square-foot, 324-seat waterfront performing arts facility include July performances of Avi Hoffman’s Too Jewish? and Too Jewish, Too!, which will run in repertory July 9 – 19 and the
Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida on July 30.

The city is doing a great job at these improvements. There was an amazing repair done to Williams Island Blvd. on 183rd Street - complete resurfacing and redirecting a flow of traffic. For many years the construction around town was by developers, now the city is focusing on the local needs. It’s a refreshing change and will only continue to improve Aventura.

The local crowd in Aventura hangs out at Starbucks. There are several spots around Aventura that pour Starbucks coffee and offer the Starbucks experience. These include Starbucks locations and the kiosk in the Aventura Mall as well as the cafe in Barnes and Noble. Many residents have made Starbucks a part of their everyday routine, they’re known as regulars. The other day I visited the Starbucks in the Fresh Market plaza on the South side of Aventura. This Starbucks location was recently remodeled and it looks amazing.

Floods in Aventura?

Every time it rains Aventura gets flooded, a life jacket is a must. The parking lots at most plazas become a car trap. Biscayne also is a nightmare. It seems it would have been more sensible to spend funds on fixing these road issues than working on the exercise trail. Likely the flooding problems are occurring mostly on private property, so the city won’t get involved. Anyway, it’s just a huge problem that should be addressed by our residents and landlords. It’s Florida and rain is expected. Let’s get prepared. Remember to be extra careful when driving, the roads are saturated with water.

Earth Day 2010

What’s the deal with Earth Day? This isn’t just a Hallmark holiday that grew from advertisers and tree hugging people, it was started in the late sixties spearheaded by Senator Gaylord Nelson. It’s amazing that during the hectic national climate of the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement the environment demanded attention. Either there was so much care and awareness or the country was tackling complex political issues it seemed easier to focus on obtainable goals like recycling at home. This excitement about making small changes at home and in the community powered grassroots movements and really worked regarding the environment.

Earth Day depended on the participation of residents in every city; however, the movement was clearly supported by politicians. This is an example of the importance to knowing who your representatives are and understanding the differences they can make in our lives. The City of Aventura has strived to take steps to GO GREEN. In fact, the National Arbor Day Society has named the City of Aventura “Tree City USA” for the 13th consecutive year. To celebrate this honor, the City will be holding its annual Arbor Day Ceremony on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 10 AM. The ceremony will be held in the Gymnasium at the Aventura Community Recreation Center located at 3375 NE 188th Street. During the ceremony, the City will proudly present the annual 2010 Go Green Initiative Awards. The Aventura City of Excellence School will showcase a dedication to Arbor Day through art, music, and drama. (news release)
