Young people are amazing bastions of altruism. The tweens with whom I’ve been workshopping the original two-act sci-fi gender role analysis play, Xander Huelsenbeck Tackles the Twelve Trials of the Ooboowah have been drawing original artwork, which was to be auctioned off on eBay to pay for more props, sets and other items for their small-town, kid-owned, non-profit drama club.

I thought this was a great idea. But when the earthquake(s) and subsequent tsunami hit Japan, they overflowed with sympathy and insisted that we give most of that money to the victims of these natural disasters.

So a little of what you bid on these pieces will go to shipping and eBay’s cut, of course, but a little will also go to giving these great young people a richer theatrical experience to treasure their whole lives. Most of the money, however, will go to disaster relief organizations, which are helping the Japanese people on the ground.

To make it even sweeter, these are some amazing examples of art. I plan to bid on several of them and buy till it hurts. Please do the same – we have a big stack of art, so you can probably yoink one for just a couple of bucks plus shipping, etc. See the excellent example to the right!

BUY KIDS’ ART TO HELP FUND YOUTH THEATRE AND SEND RELIEF TO JAPAN!

It would mean the world to me and to my kids if you could give what you can, and also if you could spread this far and wide. It’s always a good thing to encourage the giving spirit in young people.
