	City of Lincoln 3D Flyover In 2009 the City of Lincoln Council procured a 3D model from The GeoInformation Group, as an integral part of the Planning Service. A principle use of the model has been focused around advising on Urban Design and Conservation issues on major Planning Applications as well as major regeneration schemes. The 3D model is based on a set of aerial photographs, and is topographically accurate. The 3D system comprised a high resolution model without image-drape covering the city centre, and a simplified 'block structure' model for the remainder of the local authority area. The central high--resolution area (drape and non-drape models) is also divided up into a series of tiles to enable manipulation. ColC use Google SketchUP 7 to load, edit and navigate 3D models. 3D views have proved invaluable through the application process and have been used in establishing what heights; scale and massing may be acceptable before detailed designs are developed as part of a Planning Application. The models are also very useful for large schemes, sensitive sites or where it is particularly important to demonstrate how a scheme fits into its context.
