Jayke began lessons with City Way School of Motoring, with around 15 hours of previous experience, but had not covered any reversing exercises.

Having assessed Jayke’s Driving style, it was clear that he lacked the planning skills required for a safer driving experience. Jayke often made decisions first, without considering whether it was the safest option, and how his decisions could affect the other drivers around him.

We refocused Jayke’s lessons to encourage planning before taking action. Over time, he had a breakthrough and recognised what he needed to do.

Jayke benefited from extra practice between lessons with his wife, Hollie, mum, and brother.

On test day, Jayke composed himself after a couple of wobbles (he doesn’t like tests), produced a great drive, and passed first time with only one driver fault. A fantastic result. This shows that focusing on your goals brings you rewards.

With this achievement, Jayke’s life will now improve in meaningful ways. He and his wife are expecting their second child, so he can take over the driving and give his wife some well-deserved time off.

Lillie often struggled with her perception of her driving skills, even though she was more capable than she thought. We shifted our focus to building her confidence and encouraging her to just drive. Gradually, she began to notice real improvements.

Building on her growing confidence, Lillie improved her performance by creating detailed plans and recognising potential challenges in advance.

Despite her progress, Lillie didn’t have the option to drive between her driving lessons, making her achievements even more impressive.

On test day, Lillie put her well-developed planning and anticipation skills to the test. This highlighted the impressive progress she had made, and she passed with flying colours on her first attempt—demonstrating that with the right mindset, you can achieve anything.

• 31st March 2026 – Only 2 changes can be made to a current test booking. This includes both the date and location of the driving test.

Sandra began lessons with City Way School of Motoring, bringing prior driving experience.

Sandra soon realised that effective planning was essential, as she sometimes found herself in avoidable situations.

Our lessons focused on planning ahead and anticipating situations, which allowed Sandra to significantly improve her performance and pass her test on her second attempt.

To build on her progress, Sandra also practised privately with her mother, travelling to work when possible.

Nicola began her driving lessons with City Way School of Motoring with some previous driving experience.

Like many new drivers, Nicola soon realised that planning was the key. She often found herself in situations that could have been anticipated.

Our lessons emphasised planning and anticipating what might happen next, reducing mistakes and helping Nicola develop into an excellent driver.

To build on her progress, Nicola also did some private practice with her father between lessons, whenever possible.

Just before her driving test, the DVSA cancelled and rebooked Nicola’s test a few days later. I couldn’t attend because I had other commitments. Nicola took her driving test in her father’s car and passed on her first attempt. It was a great result and totally deserved.

Nicola no longer has to ask for lifts to work. She has gained her independence.

We took each topic slowly, and her performance and confidence improved, and she started making decisions on the move in ever-changing road situations, which even surprised Zaina.

On test day, Zaina delivered a great drive and passed her test on the first attempt. Her smile and excitement when telling her family she had passed her driving test, made all our efforts worthwhile.

In April 2025, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) initiated a trial that introduced several subtle yet significant modifications to the car driving test. The primary objective was to create a testing experience that more accurately mirrors the everyday conditions encountered by motorists and to better equip learners for a lifetime of safe driving. Following the conclusion of the trial, the DVSA has announced that these modifications will become a permanent aspect of the driving test, effective from 24th November 2025.
