"It is easiest for me to think of our wedding in segments: getting ready, ceremony, and reception. For each of those I have a favorite memory. In the beginning of the day I was most excited to see my groom – we had a romantic first look that took place on the top of the staircase that afterwards led us down the stars to our wedding party and close family and friends. Our ceremony music and décor we had thought about extensively. Our aisle was lit by candles, the strings were playing “At Last” and the double doors opened as my parents and I walked down the aisle. For the reception David and I had left to take our post- ceremony photos and when we returned the room had been “flipped” for dinner. We walked into the room and I was speechless – all the meetings, Pinterest boards, countless hours scouring the internet, and numerous e-mails actually brought what I had in my mind to reality. David and I were given a sampling of appetizers (we had not eaten all day – BRIDES PLEASE EAT!) and walked up the stairs to take a birds eye view of the room before everyone was welcomed into dinner. This moment was also our brief alone time, and the first private moments we shared as husband and wife admiring our wedding reception layout."

Looking back at this wedding, I am reminded of the beauty that lays in my own backyard. I love shooting destination weddings and weddings across the country. With this, it is such a wonderful refresher to look back at the Seattle weddings that I have done and truly appreciate my roots in this unique city. Jennifer and Jesse's wedding is the perfect example of the versatility that Seattle weddings possess. They were married at a park on the top of Queen Anne hill, overlooking the city and their ceremony followed at the Ruins downtown. Their amazing team is outlined and you can read more about their story at the end of this post!

We shot this after the wedding for the couple's "Thank You" notes. Love the skyline in the background, lit by the light of the city and the stars in the sky!

From the couple:

"We were introduced at the birthday party of a mutual friend (September of 2011). Jesse had to miss a friend's bachelor party that night and his friend, Deja, had consoled him by saying "come to my birthday party, there will be pretty girls." It turned out pretty well :). We started dating right away. A big step in our relationship happened that Thanksgiving when Jesse met Aryanna for the first time and they both got to meet Jesse's whole family. That Christmas, Jen took a trip for several weeks to Bolivia and being apart really helped us realize how much this meant to us. The following Summer, we purchased a house and moved in together.

We got engaged in the middle of December. We wanted to get married this summer so we had to start looking for a venue quickly. We looked at a number of places... before deciding on the Ruins. The other priority was finding the right photographer :). After getting those two lined up, things [were] pretty easy (with the possible exception of the dress, which took some searching). Doing things through family and friends have been an importing part of the wedding planning as: Jesse has worked at The Ruins for the last 5 years, our friend Deja (who introduced us) designed the invitations, we [had] the rehearsal dinner at O'Asian which is owned by a family friend of Jen's, Jesse's dad [built] the arch for the ceremony, the music both at the ceremony and the reception and being done by friends, and many other friends and family have been involved in small ways."

I’m really not one for words… I usually let my images do the talking for me. If I was one for words however, I'd explain how incredible this wedding was from start to finish. Every detail worked out so perfectly, it really couldn't have gone any better.

Lindley and Tyler contacted me about a year ago to shoot their destination wedding in Manuel Antonio,Costa Rica. I knew it’d be a blast, but I didn't realize how much I’d fall in love with them, their families and the beautiful country. Seriously wishing I could re-shoot their wedding every weekend.

Thank you Lindley and Tyler for having me out to Manuel Antonio, for inviting me to be a part of their amazing day. Thank you Melissa (Stylish Occasions - the wedding director, whom I’ve had the privilege of doing many weddings with) for doing a great job at putting everything together. The light was crazy and worked out perfectly, sunny in the day, clouded up in the afternoon until just before the end of the ceremony, when the sun came out over the ocean to create some dramatic lighting for a few great sunset shots.

Today we look back to July 30, 2014. Kevin and Skyler's wedding at the Cascade Club in Redmond, WA was personal and showed off the light-hearted, fun love that the two have for one another. Skyler was smiling from start to finish and was stunning in her gown, from head to toe. Her husband, Kevin, was coordinated in a gray suit with his groomsmen and the bridal party was looking great, accented with yellow. Gray suits, gray dresses, and yellow accents truly made for a stunning bridal party. The wedding was a hit from start to finish and was catered by Twelve Baskets Catering, whose food is not only delicious, but looked incredible as well.

Looking back to June 28, 2013, I was so excited to get to the air and fly down to Naples, FL for Jamie and Jim's wedding. After their engagement shoot, I knew that they would be so much fun to work with and couldn't wait to shoot their wedding.

This past wedding season was our best to date here at Clane Gessel Photography. I spent the majority of the summer flying across the country and the globe, capturing the love my couples share for one another. Needless to say, it was a blast! I met and worked with so many incredible people, I saw breath-taking sites, and I was humbled by the uniqueness of each couple. But mostly, I was completely swept away by the season and am gracious that so many couples chose me to be a part of their wedding day. I am excited for what 2014 has in store!

That being said, with the busy nature of the summer 2013 season, the team and I got a little bit behind on the posting of our summer weddings... Thus, we decided to start a new blog series! The title of the series is "Looking back," and will "look back" once a week to highlight one of our weddings from the summer 2013 season. We are so excited to display these weddings just as the planning of many engaged couples comes into full swing!

Christie and Mark - Wedding at the Flood Mansion, San Francisco

Being a part of Christie and Mark's wedding on Dec. 28th in San Francisco was simply amazing. I had the opportunity to get to know them in August when I did their engagements at UC Berkeley, where they met and Mark played college football. We started photos at the San Francisco Ritz-Carlton, the ceremony was held at the the St. Vincent De Paul church and the reception was at the Flood Mansion.
