"BIOGAS" , When we listen this word what comes first in our mind? It is a GAS which is made by the biological products, and its true.

Biogas typically refers to a mixture of different gases produced by the breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen.

Biogas can be produced from raw materials such as agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste or food waste.

So, we can produce BIOGAS easily by the waste products which are available in our nearby.

Biogas is used as transportation fuel in a number of countries, but in Europe it has only reached a major breakthrough in Sweden. All of the biogas plants in Sweden that are in the planning or construction phase will be equipped with possibilities to deliver a biogas that is upgraded to natural gas quality, either for direct use as vehicle fuel or for injection into the natural gas grid.

The development of biogas as vehicle fuel in Sweden is a result of a combination of a surplus of gas from biogas plants, primarily at the sewage treatment plants, and a low electricity price that forces the biogas into markets other than electricity production.

SOURCES OF BIOGAS

Sewage treatment plants: Many sewage treatment plants produce methane rich gases in the sludge fermentation stage. Utilisation of methane from sewage plants is used on a large scale in many countries. Optimised process conditions can enhance the production and collection of these gases.

Cleaning of organic industrial waste streams: Anaerobic digestion processes are often successfully applied to clean the waste streams of agricultural processing industry,The methane rich gases are mainly utilised to produce electricity and heat in local co-generation plants.

Landfills: All landfills produce methane rich gases. Collection and utilisation of the gases is applied quite widely. Improved collection, processing and utilisation of landfill gases will be an important tool to increase the importance of landfill gas.

Mesophilic and thermophilic digestion of organic waste: Compact installations convert organic waste to methane rich gases at higher temperatures. The main difference between the two methods is the digestion temperature (35°C in the mesophilic process and 55°C in the ther mophilic process).

Composition of BIOGAS

Methane -60-65%
Carbon dioxide - 35-40%
Hydrogen sulphide - 0.5-1.0%

Properties of biogas

Biogas is non-toxic, color less and flammable gas.
It has an ignition temperature of 650 - 7500C.
Its density is 1.214kg/ m3 (assuming about 60% Methane and 40% CO2).
Its calorific value is 20 MJ/m3 (or 4700 kcal.).
It is almost 20% lighter than air.

Upgrading of biogas to natural gas quality

Biogas has to be upgraded to natural gas quality in order to be used in normal vehicles designed to use natural gas. The most common technologies are the water scrubber technology and the PSA-technology. Gas upgrading is normally performed in two steps where the main step is the process that removes the CO2 from the gas. Minor contaminants are normally removed before the CO2- removal and the water dew point can be adjusted before or after the upgrading (depending on the process).

Biogas vehicles

Biogas can be used in both heavy duty and light duty vehicles. Light duty vehicles can normally run both on natural gas and biogas without any modifications, whereas heavy duty vehicles without closed loop control may have to be adjusted, if they run alternately on biogas and natural gas. Sweden is the only country in the world with a national standard for biogas as vehicle fuel today. This standard essentially states that the methane content must be higher than 95% and also sets limits for dew point, sulphur content and some other minor constituents. Today there are more than 4.000 vehicles in Sweden running on natural gas and biogas and several local fleets (e.g. Linköping, Uppsala, Kristianstad) where the major part of the urban public transports are operated on biogas.

Scope of BIOGAS in India

India is implementing one of the World’s largest programme in renewable energy. The country ranks second in biogas utilization. Biogas can be generated and supplied round the clock in contrast to solar and wind, which are intermittent in nature. Biogas plants provide three-in-one solution of gaseous fuel generation, organic manure production and wet biomass waste disposal/management.

Technology Demonstration on Biogas Bottling under RDD&D

First time in the country during the year 2008-09, a new initiative was taken for technology demonstration on biogas bottling projects in entrepreneurial mode, for installation of medium size mixed feed biogas plants for generation, purification and bottling of biogas under RDD&D policy of MNRE after R&D. Installation of such plants aims at production of CNG quality of Compressed Biogas (CBG) to be used as vehicular fuel in addition to meeting stationary & motive power, electricity generation, 2 thermal application etc. needs in a decentralized manner through establishment of a sustainable business model in this sector. There is a huge potential for installation of such plants in various areas. Under the demonstration phase, the Ministry has sanctioned a central financial assistance for a limited number of such projects for implementation following an entrepreneurial mode in different states namely Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. So far, 11 numbers of biogas bottling projects of various capacities and technologies have been commissioned in the country after obtaining required licenses for filling and storage of compressed biogas in CNG cylinders from Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organization (PESO), State Pollution Control Board (PCB) etc. IIT, Delhi is assigned for technical monitoring & handholding of the consultants/promoters and preparation of documentation on different types of technology which may emerge out of these projects.

It also found that almost half of Britons (46%) think loving animals makes a person more attractive, with women more likely to be attracted to animal lovers (49%) than men (40%), The Huffington Post reported.The survey of more than 5,000 British adults also found that pet owners were perceived to have positive character traits.
Around a third (32%) of Britons surveyed said they thought someone with a dog was more likely to be loyal, compassionate and kind.
It was not just romance that dogs can help out with. Almost half (46%) of people surveyed found that walking a dog was one of the easiest ways to making friends.The survey, conducted by Direct Line, isn't the first to suggest that dogs can help humans make connections with each other.
It may explain why 29% of dog owners have met lifelong friends while walking their pets.
A previous study from the Tufts University found that people who have strong connections to their pets also have social and relationship benefits.

The researchers surveyed 1000 people between the ages of 18 to 26 and found that those who had "strong attachment to pets reported feeling more connected to their communities and relationships".

YOGA DAY SPECIAL- KNOW WHO YOU ARE

The term ‘Yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘YUJ’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’. As per Yogic scriptures the practice of Yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with that of the Universal Consciousness, indicating a perfect harmony between the mind and body, Man & Nature. The aim of Yoga is Self-Realization, to overcome all kinds of sufferings leading to 'the state of liberation'. This is one of the oldest sciences of the world, originated in India, which is very useful for preserving and maintaining one's physical and mental health and also for 'spiritual evolution'. The practice of Yoga is believed to have started with the very dawn of civilization, Mythologically, the Lord Shiva is considered to be the first teacher of Yoga. Yoga, being widely considered as an ‘immortal cultural outcome’ of Indus valley civilization – dating back to 2700 B.C. – has proved itself catering to both material and spiritual upliftment of humanity. Basic humane values are the very identity of Yoga Sadhana.
The Number of seals and fossil remains of Indus valley civilization with Yogic motives and figures performing Yoga Sadhana suggest the presence of Yoga in ancient India. The phallic symbols, seals of idols of mother Goddess are suggestive of Tantra Yoga. Presence of Yoga is available in folk traditions, Indus valley civilization, Vedic and Upanishadic heritage, Buddhist and Jain traditions, Darshanas, epics of Mahabharat and Ramayana, theistic traditions of Shaivas, Vaishnavas, and Tantric traditions. In addition, there was a primordial or pure Yoga which has been manifested in mystical traditions of South Asia. This was the time when Yoga was being practised under the direct guidance of Guru and its spritual value was given special importance. It was a part of Upasana and Yoga sadhana was inbuilt in their rituals. Sun was given highest importance during the vedic period. The practice of ‘Surya namaskara’ may have been invented later due to this influence. Pranayama was a part of daily ritual and to offer the oblation. Though Yoga was being practiced in the pre-Vedic period (2700 B.C.), the great Sage Maharshi Patanjali systematized and codified the then existing practices of Yoga, its meaning and its related knowledge through his Yoga Sutras.
The philosophy and practice of Yoga itself was codified clearly and methodically by the sage Patanjali in his set of 196 aphorisms called "The Yoga Sutras”. The Sutras bring together all the various strands of theory and practice of yoga and present them in one concise, integrated and comprehensive text. According to Patañjali, there are eight components of the practice referred to as Ashtanga Yoga or eight ‘limbs’ of Yoga sadhana which must be practised and refined in order to perceive the true self- the ultimate goal of Yoga.
Historical evidences of the existence of Yoga were seen in the pre-Vedic period (2700 B.C.), and thereafter till Patanjali’s period. The main sources, from which we get the information about Yoga practices and the related literature during this period, are available in Vedas (4), Upanishads (108), Smritis, teachings of Buddhism, Jainism, Panini, Epics (2), Puranas (18) etc.
Tentatively, the period between 500 BC - 800 A.D. is considered as the Classical period which is also considered as the most fertile and prominent period in the history and development of Yoga. During this period, commentaries of Vyasa on Yoga Sutras and Bhagawadgita etc. came into existence.This period can be mainly dedicated to two great religious teachers of India – Mahavir and Buddha. The concept of Five great vows – Pancha mahavrata - by Mahavir and Ashta Magga or eight-fold path by Buddha - can be well considered as early nature of Yoga sadhana. We find its more explicit explanation in Bhagawadgita which has elaborately presented the concept of Gyan Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Karma Yoga. These three types of Yoga are still the highest example of human wisdom and and even to day people find peace by following the methods as shown in Gita. Patanjali’s Yoga sutra besides containing various aspects of Yoga, is mainly identified with eight fold path of Yoga. The very important commentary on Yoga sutra by Vyasa was also written. During this very period the aspect of mind was given importance and it was clearly brought out through Yoga sadhana, Mind and body both can be brought under control to experience equanimity.
The period between 800 A.D. - 1700 A.D. has been recognized as the Post-classical period wherein the teachings of great Acharyatrayas - Adi Shankracharya, Ramanujacharya, Madhavacharya - were prominent during this period. The teachings of Surdas, Tulasidas, Purandardas, Mirabai were the great contributors during this period. The Natha Yogis of Hathayoga Tradition like Matsyendranatha, Gorkshanatha, Cauranginatha, Swatmaram Suri, Gheranda, Shrinivasa Bhatt are some of the great personalities who popularized the Hatha Yoga practices during this period.
The period between 1700 - 1900 A.D. is considered as Modern period in which the great Yogacharyas - Ramana Maharshi, Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Paramhansa Yogananda, Vivekananda etc. have contributed for the development of Raja Yoga. This was the period when Vedanta, Bhakti yoga, Nathayoga or Hatha-Yoga flourished. The Shadanga-yoga of Goraksha shatakam, Chaturanga-yoga of Hathayoga pradipika, Saptanga-yoga of Gheranda Samhita were the main tenents of Hatha-yoga.
Now in the contemporary times, everybody has conviction about yoga practices towards the preservation, maintenance and promotion of health. Yoga has spread all over the world by the teachings of great personalities like Swami Shivananda, Shri T.Krishnamacharya, Swami Kuvalayananda, Shri Yogendara, Swami Rama, Sri Aurobindo, Maharshi Mahesh Yogi, Acharya Rajanish, Pattabhijois, BKS. Iyengar, Swami Satyananda Sarasvati and the like.
These different Philosophies, Traditions, lineages and Guru-shishya paramparas of Yoga lead to the emergence of differnt Traditional Schools of Yoga e.g. Jnana-yoga, Bhakti-yoga, Karma-yoga, Dhyana-yoga, Patanjala-yoga, Kundalini-yoga, Hatha-yoga, Mantra-yoga, Laya-yoga, Raja-yoga, Jain-yoga, Bouddha-yoga etc. Each school has its own principles and practices leading to altimate aim and objectives of Yoga.
However, the widely practiced Yoga Sadhanas (Practices) are: Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana (Meditation), Samadhi/ Samyama, Bandhas & Mudras, Shat-karmas, Yukta-ahara, Yukta karma, Mantra japa etc.
Yama's are restraints and Niyama's are observances. These are considered to be pre-requisits for the Yoga Sadhanas (Practices). Asanas, capable of bringing about stability of body and mind ‘kuryat-tad-asanam-sthairyam...’ , consists in adopting various body (psycho-physical) patterns, giving ability to maintain a body position (a stable awareness of one’s structural existence) for a considerable length and period of time as well.
Pranayama consists in developing awareness of one’s breathing followed by willful regulation of respiration as the functional or vital basis of one’s existence. It helps in developing awareness of one’s mind and helps to establish control over the mind. In the initial stages, this is done by developing awareness of the ‘flow of in-breath and out-breath’ (svasa-prasvasa) through nostrils, mouth and other body openings, its internal and external pathways and destinations. Later, this phenomenan is modified, through regulated, controlled and monitored inhalation (svasa) leading to the awareness of the body space/s getting filled (puraka), the space/s remaning in a filled state (kumbhaka) and it’s getting emptied (rechaka) during regulated, controlled and monitored exhalation (prasvasa).
Pratyahara indicates dissociation of one’s consciousness (withdrawal) from the sense organs which helps one to remain connected with the external objects. Dharana indicates broad based field of attetion (inside the body and mind) which is usually understood as concentration. Dhyana (Meditation) is contemplation (focussed attention inside the body and mind) and Samadhi – integration.

Different social customs and rituals in India, the land of Yoga, reflect a love for ecological balance, tolerance towards other systems of thought and a compassionate outlook towards all creations.Yoga Sadhana of all hues and colours is considered panacea for a meaningful life and living. Its orientation to a comprehensive health, both individual and social, makes it a worthy practice for the people of all religions, races and nationalities.
With the wide spread popularity of Yoga around the globe has culminated in the development of several modern schools or styles of Yoga, which includes Astanga, Ananda, Bihar, Bikram, Integral, Iyengar, Kripalu, Kundalini, Sivananda, Vini-yoga, Vinyas, Art of Living, Vipassana, Preksha and Transcendental Meditation.

Although Yoga Practice is essential for self realization, it is also widely used for management of several diseases. Conventional medical management of many conditions is proving to be inadequate and inefficient and, increasingly, medical professionals are happy to try alternative and complementary therapies including Yoga.
WHO has recognized Yoga as one of several traditional therapeutic systems originates in India and Yoga training and therapy departments are being opened in reputed, established medical Institutions and hospitals.
Daily life in the modern world has left us with an immobile, sedentary lifestyle. This lack of exercise in our lives has left many people with chronic health and stress problems, especially as they get older.
Yoga enables the practitioner to find relief from these physical ailments and to strengthen the body and make it suppler. It is particularly beneficial for – muscular-skeletal disorders, arthritis, pains in the knees, shoulders and other joints, curvatures of the back and back pain, slipped discs and sciatic pain. From the psychological viewpoint, Yoga practice smoothen emotions, sharpens the intellect and aids concentration and steadies the emotions.
Yoga can be used to manage stress, psycho-somatic and lifestyle related disorders. Non-communicable diseases very well respond to the Yoga therapy. The modern medicine Hospitals and Institutes are gradually adopting this system of therapy as an adjuvant care along with the conventional medical care and such Hospitals have started exclusive Centers for Yoga in their Hospitals/ Institutes. This trend is growing.
Yoga departments in various colleges and universities and the integration of Yoga education in school curriculum and other institutionalized courses have played a vital role in the advancement and spread of Yoga.
Yoga Demonstrations, Yoga conferences, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, magazines and journals have also contributed immensely to the popularity of this discipline.
With the advent of technology, Yoga is being promulgated via T.V. channels and the internet. Apart from this, publication of manuscripts, translations of critical editions of old authoritative texts and literature in different languages, articles based on laboratory studies and findings have ensured that the philosophy and practice of Yoga cross the shores of India.
Yoga is becoming more and more relevant in today’s conflict ridden world, providing strength and equanimity to mankind to face the challenges of the present and future and create a compassionate world. This is its greatest contribution to mankind in general and to the Cultural Heritage of India, in particular.
Traditionally, the 'Guru' was accepting all the responsibility to initiate, educate, guide and take care of the welfare of the aspsirants, disciples and the students (sadhakas). There were different Gurus to initiate and guide different groups of people. In this respect, different yoga protocols developed for different mentalities and behavior patterns will be viable in the changed circumstances with different paradigms.
Now-a-days everybody has conviction about yoga practices towards the preservation, maintenance and promotion of health. Yoga has spread all over the world by the teachings of great Yoga Masters like Swami Shivananda, Shri T. Krishnamacharya, Swami Kuvalayananda, Shri Yogendara, Swami Rama, Sri Aurobindo, Maharshi Mahesh Yogi, Acharya Rajanish, Swami Dhirendra Bhrahmachari, Swami Geetananda Giri, Pattabhi jois, B.K.S. Iyengar, Swami Satyananda Saraswati and the like through their lineages.
Several initiatives and mesures have ben taken by the Govt. of India and State Govts., to ensure the viability (process of strengthening) by supporting Yoga Institutions, practitioners, Gurus and Yoga aspirants, both technically and financially. Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi has been established under the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & F.W., Govt. of India, for the promotion of Yoga education, training, therapy and research. It has also established Yoga Therapy Centers, Preventive Health Care Units of Yoga, Yoga and Wellness Centers etc. in hospital set ups.Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy, New Delhi has been established for the promotion of research. EMR, IEC etc. schemes have also been launched by the Dept. of AYUSH. Govt. of India is also supporting the Yoga Institutions, Colleges and Universities for conducting Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Publications of books etc. on Yoga. Arogya melas (health gatherings/ congregations) are organized throughout the country for the development awareness and dissamination of knowledge of Yoga.
Recently, the UN has declared 21st June as the INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY with the support of around 177 countries. This will propel the popularity and propagation of Yoga to a great extent.
Yoga is being practiced widely across the globe. Nearly 20 million people are practicing Yoga in US alone and this trend is further growing. In few countries the Yoga has been incorporated in the school curriculum.

Coal scam: Stormy session likely in Parliament again!!

Parliament proceedings are likely to be disrupted again on Wednesday with the BJP adamant in its demand for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation over the alleged irregularities in coal block allocations.

BJP defended its decision to demand Prime Minister's resignation,saying it owes it to the people in the wake of "regular occurence" of scams and insisted it will continue to press for his removal.
"In both Houses of Parliament today, we demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation. We will continue to strongly press for it as the coal allocation issue is not an isolated incident. The 2G spectrum issue, Commonwealth Games scam, public-private partnership issue of airports and now the coal blocks," deputy leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters on Tuesday.

He alleged these cases demonstrate that the Manmohan Singh government is one of "scam, shame, scandals, corruption and loot and that BJP is levelling these charges with all responsibility.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The "God particle" is the nickname of a subatomic particle called the Higgs boson. In layman’s terms, different
subatomic particles are responsible for giving matter different properties. One of the most mysterious and
Important properties is mass. Some particles, like protons and neutrons, have mass. Others, like photons, do not.
The Higgs boson, or “God particle,” is believed to be the particle which gives mass to matter. The “God particle”
nickname grew out of the long, drawn-out struggles of physicists to find this elusive piece of the cosmic puzzle.
What follows is a very brief, very simplified explanation of how the Higgs boson fits into modern physics, and how science is attempting to study it.
The “standard model” of particle physics is a system that attempts to describe the forces, components, and
reactions of the basic particles that make up matter. It not only deals with atoms and their components, but the pieces that compose some subatomic particles. This model does have some major gaps, including gravity, and some experimental contradictions. The standard model is still a very good method of understanding particle physics, and it continues to improve. The model predicts that there are certain elementary particles even smaller than protons and neutrons. As of the date of this writing, the only particle predicted by the model which has not been experimentally verified is the “Higgs boson,” jokingly referred to as the “God particle.”

Each of the subatomic particles contributes to the forces that cause all matter interactions. One of the most
important, but least understood, aspects of matter is mass. Science is not entirely sure why some particles seem mass-less, like photons, and others are “massive.” The standard model predicts that there is an elementary particle, the Higgs boson, which would produce the effect of mass. Confirmation of the Higgs boson would be a major milestone in our understanding of physics.

The “God particle” nickname actually arose when the book The God Particle: If the Universe Is the Answer, What Is the Question? by Leon Lederman was published. Since then, it’s taken on a life of its own, in part because of the monumental questions about matter that the God particle might be able to answer. The man who first proposed the Higgs boson’s existence, Peter Higgs, isn’t all that amused by the nickname “God particle,” as he’s an avowed atheist. All the same, there isn’t really any religious intention behind the nickname.Currently, efforts are under way to confirm the Higgs boson using the Large Hadron Collider, a particle accelerator in Switzerland, which should be able to confirm or refute the existence of the God particle.
As with any scientific discovery, God’s amazing creation becomes more and more impressive as we learn more about it. Either result—that the Higgs boson exists, or does not exist—represents a step forward in human knowledge and another step forward in our appreciation of God’s awe-inspiring universe. Whether or not there is a “God particle,” we know this about Christ: “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible . . . all things were created by him and for him”

HISTORY

Particle physicists study matter made from fundamental particles whose interactions are mediated by exchange particles known as force carriers. At the beginning of the 1960s a number of these particles had been discovered or proposed, along with theories suggesting how they relate to each other; however, even accepted versions such as the Unified field theory were known to be incomplete. One omission was

that they could not explain the origins of mass as a property of matter. Goldstone's theorem, relating to continuous symmetries within some theories, also appeared to rule out many obvious solutions.

The Higgs mechanism is a process by which vector bosons can get rest mass without explicitly breaking gauge invariance. The proposal for such a spontaneous symmetry breaking mechanism originally was suggested in 1962 by Philip Warren Anderson and developed into a full relativistic model, independently and almost simultaneously, by three groups of physicists: by François Englert and Robert Brout in August 1964; by Peter Higgs in October 1964; and by Gerald Guralnik, C. R. Hagen, and Tom Kibble (GHK) in November 1964. Properties of the model were further considered by Guralnik in 1965 and by Higgs in 1966. The papers showed that when a gauge theory is combined with an additional field that spontaneously breaks the symmetry group, the gauge bosons can consistently acquire a finite mass. In 1967, Steven Weinberg and Abdus Salam were the first to apply the Higgs mechanism to the breaking of the electroweak symmetry, and showed how a Higgs mechanism could be incorporated into Sheldon Glashow's electroweak theory, in what became the Standard Model of particle physics.

The three papers written in 1964 were each recognised as milestone papers during Physical Review Letters's 50th anniversary celebration. Their six authors were also awarded the 2010 J. J. Sakurai Prize for Theoretical Particle Physics for this work. (A dispute also arose the same year; in the event of a Nobel Prize up to three scientists would be eligible, with six authors credited for the papers. ) Two of the three PRL papers (by Higgs and by GHK) contained equations for the hypothetical field that eventually would become known as the Higgs field and its hypothetical quantum, the Higgs boson. Higgs's subsequent 1966 paper showed the decay mechanism of the boson; only a massive boson can decay and the decays can prove the mechanism.

In the paper by Higgs the boson is massive, and in a closing sentence Higgs writes that "an essential feature" of the theory "is the prediction of incomplete multiplets of scalar and vector bosons". In the paper by

GHK the boson is massless and decoupled from the massive states. In reviews dated 2009 and 2011, Guralnik states that in the GHK model the boson is massless only in a lowest-order approximation, but it

is not subject to any constraint and acquires mass at higher orders, and adds that the GHK paper was the only one to show that there are no massless Goldstone bosons in the model and to give a complete

analysis of the general Higgs mechanism.

In addition to explaining how mass is acquired by vector bosons, the Higgs mechanism also predicts the ratio between the W boson and Z boson masses as well as their couplings with each other and with the

Standard Model quarks and leptons. Subsequently, many of these predictions have been verified by precise measurements performed at the LEP and the SLC colliders, thus overwhelmingly confirming that

some kind of Higgs mechanism does take place in nature, but the exact manner by which it happens has not yet been discovered. The results of searching for the Higgs boson are expected to provide

evidence about how this is realized in nature.

Oil cos may not raise fuel prices on today

State-owned oil companies' losses on petrol sales have climbed to Rs7.65 per litre but they may not
raise fuel prices on Saturday pending a clarification from the government on duty reduction and
subsidy compensation.

"We are losing about Rs7.65 per litre on petrol and after adding 20 per cent sales tax, the desired
increase in rates in Delhi is Rs9.18 per litre," a top oil company official said.

Oil PSUs have asked government to make good the losses they incur on selling petrol if retail
selling price of the fuel are not to be increased. Also, they have demanded a cut in the Rs14.35
a litre excise duty on petrol.

"We had clearly told the government that if these demands are not accepted, then oil companies
will have no option but to raise petrol prices," he said. "We haven't so far heard from the
government and even though today is the day we were to revise prices, we have decided to wait
for one more day."

Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum review retail prices at the end of every
fortnight.

On 30th/31st and 15th of every month, they use the average price of international benchmark and
foreign exchange rate in fortnight to decide what should be the price of fuel from 1st and 16th
of every month respectively.

The oil firms may review prices on Sunday.

Global gasoline prices (against which domestic petrol prices are benchmarked) have risen from
USD 109 a barrel at the time of last revision in December to USD 134 per barrel.

Oil firms had last revised dates on December 1 when rates were cut by Rs0.78 per litre. Petrol
at IOC pumps in Delhi is currently priced at Rs65.64 per litre and the rates vary by a couple of
paise at the pumps of BPCL and HPCL.

As per practice, oil companies were to review fuel prices today. IOC, BPCL and HPCL use fortnightly
average of benchmark oil price and exchange rate to fix the price to be paid to refineries on 1st
and 16th of every month.

If the changes do not reflect in retail selling price, they become losses in the books of oil
firms.

Petrol price was freed from government control in June 2010 but public sector companies continue
to informally consult their parent Oil Ministry before taking a decision.

Oil firms lost about Rs4,500 crore this fiscal on selling petrol below cost. The government does
not compensate them for this loss as petrol is a decontrolled commodity.

The government continues to control rates of diesel, domestic LPG and kerosene which were sold
way below cost to keep inflation under check. The oil firms lose Rs14.73 per litre on diesel,
Rs30.10 a litre on kerosene and Rs439.50 per 14.2-kg LPG cylinder.

The government makes up roughly half of the cost that retailers lose on selling diesel, domestic
LPG and kerosene below cost.

IOC, BPCL and HPCL together are projected to lose about Rs 140,000 crore this fiscal on selling
diesel, domestic LPG and kerosene.

Description

The branch in mathematics known as Galois theory (pronounced as "gal-wah") which is based on abstract algebra was discovered by a young brilliant french mathematician known as Evariste Galois. The branch deals mainly with the analysis and formal description of binary and unary operations upon polynomials comprised of elements within a Galois field that then describe polynomials within the field itself.

The C++ Galois Field Arithmetic Library, implements a specialised version of Galois Fields known as extension fields or in other words fields of the form GF(2^m) and was developed as a base for programming tasks that involved cryptography and error correcting codes. The library is simple, consise and straight forward, it also uses a series of look-up tables to increase performance of calculations.

The library is broken into three classes, Galois Field, Galois Field Element and Galois Field Polynomial. Operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, modulus and exponentiation can occur over both field elements and field polynomials and also left and right shifting can occur for field polynomials.

The binary extensions of Galois fields (GF(2^m)) are used extensively in digital logic and circuitry. Galois field polynomials within the branch are seen as mathematical equivalents of Linear Feed-Back Shift Register (LFSR) and operations upon elements are accomplished via bitwise operations such as xor, and, or logic. Applications within the fields of cryptography and error correcting codes use Galois fields extensively in such things as S-Box implementations (bit scramblers), strong random number generators and algebraic codes. Galois theory is used to describe and generalize results seen in these fields, for example the AES algorithm can be represented with just a few lines of mathematics using Galois theory and some other related abstract algebra.

Initially one must setup a Galois Field before you can begin using operations related to the field. Galois fields are setup by intially defining the size of the field which means how many elements will exist within the field, and also the values those elements will posses. HPCL-Mittal starts Bathinda refinery

NRI steel tycoon L N Mittal has finally become a player in his home country's oil sector. His joint venture with state-run Hindustan Petroleum started full operation of its first refinery at Bathinda, Punjab, on Thursday. The refinery has a capacity of processing nine million tonne of crude a year (180,000 barrels per day) and built by HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd. Mittal has invested in the venture through Mittal Energy Investment Pte Ltd, Singapore. The starting of the refinery's operations comes after Mittal's earlier two attempts to carve out a space in the Indian oil industry failed. His venture with HPCL for a petrochem hub at Vizag failed to go beyond preliminary study. His oil shipping venture with state-run explorer ONGC never took off, while another tie-up with ONGC for acquisition of overseas acquisitions fizzled out, while trying to access fields in Kazakhstan. For HPCL, the refinery is expected to improve the availability of green fuels in the northern region. It would also give the refinery an advantage in exporting to Pakistan when Islamabad opens its gates - if at all. The refinery's proximity to Pakistan will allow HPCL-Mittal to export fuels through pipeline and offer more discounts that its rivals. The refinery is adding to India's oil refining capacity, which is to rise by 15% to 214 million tonnes a year by the end of current fiscal.

1.World's most valuable company

$13.1 billion is Apple's profit in the latest quarter. Equaled their revenue in Q4 2010-underlining the pace of its growth, despite its size. A company this big (Apple this week became world's most valuable beating Exxon) is not supposed to be able to nearly double revenue year-on-year. Nor are they supposed to more than double profit. But Apple did both.

2.Apple vs Google

Apple's profits for last quarter exceed Google's entire revenue for last quarter.

3.IBM vs Apple

$108 billion - 35-year-old Apple's revenue at end-FY11. $106 billion - 100-year-old IBM's revenue at FY11 end. In 1981, Apple's revenue stood at $ 335 million, while IBM's revenue in the year was $29 billion. When IBM launched a PC to compete with Apple in 1981, Steve Jobs mocked at IBM with a full page ad in WSJ which said "Welcome, IBM. Seriously"

4.Apple vs Microsoft

It was only in October of 2010 when Apple passed Microsoft in terms of revenue. In the latest quarter, its revenue was more than double of Microsoft.

Has not compromised with body for IPL, insists 'Michael Clarke'

Australian captain Michael Clarke has made it clear he did not compromise himself physically by opting to sign a lucrative contract with the Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Clarke was reported to have agreed to the deal after being offered a staggering $1 million for six games. The Test and ODI captain is scheduled to have a three-week break before Australia embark on a tour of England in June and July. He will have a further eight-week break before Australia play Pakistan in four ODIs and two Twenty20 matches in August, tentatively scheduled to be held in the neutral venue of Sri Lanka. "Representing Australia always comes first for me. I wouldn't do anything that would physically jeopardise that and I've made that very clear," Clarke said. "I'll be having a good break this winter. If there was ever a time for me to have a go at playing in the IPL, it's now." Clarke was quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph. The Australian captain for the past one year, Clarke had previously resisted the riches of the IPL to focus on national duty. Clarke will replace star India batsman Yuvraj Singh, who was this month discharged from a US hospital after a third round of chemotherapy for a rare germ cell cancer. He will join fellow Australians Steve Smith and James Hopes at the Pune franchise.
