Today, I want to dive into a fascinating topic: how mindfulness and meditation can boost your creativity. It’s something I’ve experienced firsthand, and I believe it can help you too.…

Today, I want to dive into a fascinating topic: how mindfulness and meditation can boost your creativity. It’s something I’ve experienced firsthand, and I believe it can help you too.

What is Creativity?

Let’s start with a simple question: what is creativity? Steve Jobs once said that creativity is about connecting different ideas to create something new. It’s like mixing peanut butter and chocolate to make Reese’s peanut butter cups—a delicious blend of two separate things.

Creativity is a remarkable human ability. We all have it. Every day, we think new thoughts, make decisions, and solve problems. That’s creativity in action!

My Journey with Creativity

When I was younger, I traveled as a musician. I wrote songs, recorded them, and worked as an audio engineer. This experience taught me a lot about the balance between technical skills and creative inspiration.

Think of the classic yin-yang symbol. The yin represents intuition and creativity, while the yang represents logic and analysis. Our brains work in a similar way, with the right hemisphere being more creative and the left hemisphere being more analytical.

How Mindfulness and Meditation Help

In the recording studio, I often switched between the analytical tasks (like fixing technical issues) and the creative tasks (like writing lyrics). It was challenging at first, but I discovered that mindfulness and meditation could help.

Meditation teaches mental focus and calm, essential tools for fostering what I call “fluidic thinking”—the ability to switch smoothly between analytical and creative thinking. This balance allows us to use both sides of our brain effectively, leading to more holistic, or whole-brain, thinking.

Practical Tips

Here are some takeaways on how mindfulness and meditation can boost your creativity:

1: Calm Focus: Meditation helps you achieve a state of calm focus. This makes it easier to dive deeply into your creative work without distractions.

2: Fluidic Thinking: With practice, you can move effortlessly between logical analysis and creative intuition. This fluidity is key to solving problems and generating new ideas.

3: Balanced Brain: Mindfulness promotes a balanced brain approach. By harmonizing both hemispheres, you engage in holistic thinking, which is crucial for creative endeavors.

A Song to Inspire You

I’d like to share a song from my album, Soul Affirmation. The track “It Comes From Me” blends technical and creative elements. As you listen, try to notice both aspects.

Lyrics: It Comes From Me by Ken LaDeroute

Within the center of my heart I know I’m peace.
I thank and love the world for every day I breathe.
I’m willing to let it flow and let expectations go.
That’s when I really know it comes from me.

It Comes From Me

Each day I feel more worthy of what life can bring.
I know that I create abundance and good things.
I trust in my heart to say this is the highest way.
It’s never far away.
It comes from me.

It Comes From Me

Remember, we all have the capacity for creativity. By practicing mindfulness and meditation, we can harness this power to create amazing things for ourselves and the world.

To support my work and enjoy more of my music, you can download the album Soul Affirmation, Music for Better Outcomes from my site:

I’m excited to share with you some powerful insights on how to create the future you desire. Over the years, I’ve become a great manifester, and my practice of meditation has been a key part of this journey. By going inward and using my thoughts and feelings, I’ve been able to make things happen in my life.

You can easily manifest the future by teaching your body emotionally what you want to feel before it becomes a reality. This is a fantastic tool to use your emotions to align with your future goals and create your ideal life.

Manifesting isn’t just about thinking positively or creating a vision board. It’s about retraining your emotions to feel what you want for the future. This means regularly reaffirming and reinforcing these emotions. By doing this, you create a magnetic pull towards your desired life.

I’m thrilled to share this concept with you today. I’ll be covering three valuable takeaways and sharing personal stories to show how I created my future based on my emotions.

Visualize Vividly

The first tip is to visualize vividly. It’s crucial to imagine in your mind exactly what you want in great detail. For instance, I imagined myself at a luxurious resort, feeling the sun on my skin, hearing the wind through the palm trees, and smelling the ocean. By vividly visualizing this scene, I made it manifest. Now, I swim at this dream pool every week.

Emotional Engagement

The second takeaway is emotional engagement. It’s not enough to just think about your desires; you must also feel them deeply. Identify the feelings you want and embody them. For example, I once imagined myself confidently teaching a large audience about mindfulness. I felt the fulfillment of this experience, and soon, I was teaching a 16-week course to over 180 people. Feeling the emotions as if you’ve already achieved your goals is key to manifestation.

Consistent Practice

The third takeaway is consistent practice. You need to visualize your goals daily. The end of a meditation session is a perfect time because you’re already in a calm, introspective state. By consistently practicing and reinforcing your beliefs and emotions, you can instill these feelings in your subconscious mind. This daily practice has helped me realize my dreams, like touring as a musician and hearing my songs on the radio.

In summary, the three takeaways are:

1: Vividly Visualize (VV): Be specific and detailed in your imagination.
2: Emotional Engagement (EE): Feel the emotions as if your dreams have already come true.
3: Practice Consistently (PC): Reinforce these feelings every day.

These emotional tools can help you create the life you dream of. I’ve done it, and I know you can too by being quiet, imagining your desires, and getting emotionally engaged.

Today, I wanted to chat about something super important: living life to the fullest. You know, striking that balance between being intentional about how we live and just going with…

Today, I wanted to chat about something super important: living life to the fullest. You know, striking that balance between being intentional about how we live and just going with the flow.

Ever heard of the saying “Memento Mori”? It’s Latin for “remember that you shall die.” Now, I know it sounds a bit morbid, but bear with me. I see it as a reminder to make the most of every moment we’ve got. And guess what? Studies have shown that thinking about our mortality actually helps us focus on what truly matters in life.

Let me throw some numbers at you. Imagine we live to be 80 years old. That’s roughly 4,000 weeks to do all the things we want to do. Now, take away the time we spend sleeping, eating, and doing everyday stuff, and suddenly, that window of opportunity gets a lot narrower. Sobering, right?

I put a ton of time into my latest video, watch it here: “Mortality: Your Wake-Up Call to Living a Life Well Lived”

Now, let’s talk about knowing what we want. It’s not always easy to figure that out. But fear not! I’ve got a little tool called the Kenny Boy Value Tool (KBVT) to help us out. It involves jotting down everything we want for 10 days straight, then sorting out our top 10 wants and top five values. Trust me, it works like a charm!

Here’s the kicker: life’s a bit like a coin with two sides, each holding its own truth. We’ve got to embrace the paradox and find our balance. That’s where the concept of Wu Wei comes in—doing without doing, going with the flow. It’s about trusting that things will work out as they should

I love what Steve Jobs used to do. He’d ask himself, “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do?” It’s a powerful reminder that life is short and constantly changing. So, why waste time on things that don’t bring us joy?

Now, let’s talk about being present. I mean, really present. It’s about tuning into the here and now, breathing deeply, and embracing the rhythm of nature. After all, we’re already where we need to be. We just need to open our eyes and see it.

So, my friends, let’s make the most of this beautiful journey called life. Remember, mortality is not the end—it’s our wake-up call to truly start living.

Major Takeaways:

1. Embrace Mortality: Instead of fearing it, use the awareness of your mortality to live each day with purpose and intention.

2. Find Your Balance: Strive for a balance between planning for the future and being present in the moment, allowing yourself to go with the flow when needed.

3. Live in the Now: Practice being fully present in each moment, appreciating the beauty and rhythm of life as it unfolds before you.

So, what are you waiting for?Let’s seize the day and make every moment count!

Change is the one constant in life. It’s like the ebb and flow of the tide, always moving, always shifting. But how do we navigate through these changes without feeling…

Change is the one constant in life. It’s like the ebb and flow of the tide, always moving, always shifting. But how do we navigate through these changes without feeling lost at sea? Let’s dive into three valuable tips for navigating change amidst the stormy seas of uncertainty.

1 – Finding Serenity Amidst the Storm: Mindfulness

Mindfulness is like a lighthouse guiding us through the fog of uncertainty. It’s about being fully present in the moment, without getting swept away by the currents of the past or future. When faced with challenges, take a moment to pause, breathe, and tune in to the here and now. Whether it’s a flooded basement or a financial setback, mindfulness allows us to respond with clarity and composure.

But mindfulness is more than just staying calm in a storm. It’s about cultivating a deeper understanding of ourselves. Amidst the chaos of change, there’s a steady core within each of us, a place of refuge where we can find peace amidst the turbulence. By practicing mindfulness, we learn to anchor ourselves in this inner sanctuary, finding solace amidst life’s ever-changing tides.

2 – Embracing Life’s Unfolding: Acceptance

Acceptance is like a sturdy ship navigating through rough waters. It’s about acknowledging and embracing life as it unfolds, even when it doesn’t go according to plan. My father used to say a prayer about accepting the things we cannot change and having the courage to change the things we can. It’s a powerful reminder that some things are beyond our control, and that’s okay.

When I transitioned from a career in music to a more conventional job, acceptance was my lifeline. It wasn’t easy letting go of the spotlight and the excitement of the stage, but accepting the reality of the situation allowed me to move forward with grace and resilience. Like a ship adjusting its sails to the changing winds, acceptance enables us to navigate through life’s twists and turns with courage and grace.

3 – Shaping Our Reality: Mindset

Mindset is like a compass guiding us toward our true north. It’s about how we perceive and interpret the world around us. Psychologist Carol Dweck distinguishes between two mindsets: growth and fixed. A growth mindset sees challenges as opportunities for learning and growth, while a fixed mindset believes that our abilities are set in stone.

I’m a firm believer in the power of a growth mindset, that’s why I became a mindset coach. It’s like knowing that no matter what obstacles come our way, we have the power to overcome them and emerge stronger on the other side. Just as the brain is capable of rewiring itself through experience, so too can we reshape our reality through the way we think about things. With a growth mindset, we can embrace change with optimism and resilience, knowing that every setback is just another step on the journey toward our goals.

In conclusion, navigating change is an inevitable part of life’s journey. By practicing mindfulness, embracing acceptance, and cultivating a growth mindset, we can navigate through the storms of uncertainty with courage, resilience, and grace. So, the next time life throws you a curveball, remember these three valuable tips and let them be your guiding light through the waves of uncertainty.

As a creative entrepreneur, the journey to success is often paved with stress, anxiety, and a constant barrage of thoughts vying for your attention. Your mind becomes a whirlwind of ideas, deadlines, and self-doubts, obscuring the clarity and focus you need to thrive. But what if I told you that amidst this mental chaos lies the key to unlocking your awakened mind – a state of profound awareness and liberation that can transform your creative process and overall well-being?

Hey there, fellow creatives! Ken here, your friendly neighborhood meditation teacher, musician, and mindset coach, inviting you to embark on a transformative expedition – a journey to awaken your mind and experience the freedom that comes with unshackling yourself from the chains of your own thoughts.

Let me share a pivotal memory that ignited my passion for this work. In my early 20s, while living the musician’s dream of performing nightly gigs, I found myself in some peculiar places. One unforgettable night in a rough joint in Saskatchewan, supposedly built on an ancient Indian burial ground, fear gripped me as I awoke to find my clothes mysteriously scattered on the floor. This experience became the catalyst for a lifelong obsession with meditation, leading me to devour over 300 books on the subject.

Today, I’m here to guide you through the three clouds that often obscure the innate clarity and radiance of our awakened minds – the ever-present, yet frequently overlooked, light within us all.

Cloud 1: Thoughts – The Mind’s Construction Zone

As creative entrepreneurs, our minds are often cluttered with incessant thoughts – ideas, doubts, interpretations, and representations. We take ourselves too seriously, identifying with the constant barrage of mental chatter. This internal noise can stifle our creativity, cloud our judgment, and amplify stress and anxiety. Meditation, or what I like to call “no-mind meditation,” offers a reprieve, allowing us to clear the mind and lift the first cloud, awakening the mind to its true nature.

Cloud 2: Identity – Putting the Ego Aside

Imagine walking together and seeing your reflection in a plate glass window. That reflection is your identity, your “creative entrepreneur-ness.” While identities like “artist,” “designer,” or “founder” can be empowering, we often become overly attached to them. The ego clings to these identities, resisting the idea of their dissolution or evolution. However, putting our ego identities aside for a while opens up a pathway toward awakening and unleashing our true creative potential.

The Illusion of Permanence

Our identities as creative entrepreneurs are like characters in a play – roles we assume, but not our true essence. The ego clings to them, fearing their dissolution. Yet, embracing the impermanence of these roles opens the door to a more profound understanding of who we are beyond labels.

The Death of the Ego: A Misunderstood Liberation

Many creative entrepreneurs fear the death of the ego, associating it with a loss of self or creative identity. But what if the death of the ego is not a loss, but a gain? By releasing our attachment to these identities, we open ourselves to a vast, uncharted territory of possibilities and creative expression.

The Beauty of Non-Attachment

Non-attachment to ego identity doesn’t mean neglecting your creative passions or business goals. Instead, it invites you to dance through life and work with a lightness of being, unburdened by the weight of societal expectations and self-imposed limitations. It’s the freedom to explore new facets of your creativity without the constraints of a rigid identity.

Cloud 3: Time – The Illusion We Live By

In the fast-paced world of creative entrepreneurship, time can be a relentless taskmaster, with deadlines looming and the constant pressure to produce. However, in meditation and other peak experiences, we tap into timeless awareness, realizing that time is but an illusion created by the mind.

The Psychology of Time

Think about it – an hour spent in a state of creative flow can fly by like a fleeting moment, while a tedious administrative task can make minutes feel like hours. Time, in essence, is a malleable perception influenced by our state of mind.

Timelessness in Meditation and Flow States

Meditation offers us a gateway to timeless awareness. When we immerse ourselves in the practice, the constraints of time dissolve, and we connect with a realm beyond the ticking clock. Similarly, in flow states – those moments of peak creative performance – time becomes irrelevant. We lose ourselves in the present, experiencing a timeless dance with our craft.

The Liberation of Flow States

Picture yourself engrossed in your creative work, whether it’s painting, writing, or designing, where every brushstroke, word, or line flows effortlessly. In these flow states, we glimpse a reality beyond the constraints of time. It’s a place where our creative actions seamlessly align with the unfolding present, and the worries of past and future evaporate.

Embracing Timeless Awareness

Imagine a creative life where the ticking clock loses its power. Embrace the timeless awareness cultivated through meditation and the blissful surrender to flow states. Liberation awaits when we free ourselves from the time-bound illusion and step into the boundless present, where our creativity can truly flourish.

Cultivating an Awakened Mindset

By embracing these principles and lifting the clouds of thoughts, identity, and time, you can cultivate an awakened mindset – a state of heightened awareness, clarity, and presence that can profoundly impact your creative process and overall well-being as an entrepreneur.

An awakened mindset allows you to approach your work with a sense of calm and focus, free from the mental clutter that often breeds stress and anxiety. It empowers you to make decisions from a place of authenticity, rather than being swayed by the fleeting whims of the ego or societal pressures.

Moreover, an awakened mindset fosters a deeper connection with your creative intuition, enabling you to tap into a wellspring of inspiration and innovative ideas that may have been previously obscured by mental noise.

So, dear creative entrepreneurs, as you navigate the landscape of your entrepreneurial journey, remember that fear can be a powerful catalyst for transformation. Embrace meditation, clear your mind, put your ego aside, and let go of the illusion of time. In doing so, you’ll uncover the radiant light of your awakened mind – a journey that can unlock unprecedented levels of creativity, fulfillment, and success.

If you resonated with this journey, don’t forget to share the wisdom, and let’s continue this incredible path together. Wishing you clarity, liberation, timeless moments of creative flow, and the freedom to unleash your full entrepreneurial potential.

I was fed up with overthinking. The constant swirl of thoughts, the never-ending mental chatter – it was like being trapped in a maze with no exit. Once upon a time, you might have known me from my days on the road, rocking out on my guitar and living a simple life. But times have changed. We’ve traded the serenity of open roads for the chaos of smartphones, perpetually tethered to the relentless stream of information overload. I call it infobesity.

In the midst of all this chatter and noise, I found myself longing for the simplicity of my days on the road. Back when touring through Canada and the U.S. was a breeze, no thoughts of utility bills and insurance payments – just me, my guitars, and the vast expanse of the open road. Those were the days when I would explore the profound teachings of Buddhism, and Eastern religions. No phones, no internet – just the purity of existence.

Weapons of Mass Distraction

Nowadays, however, we find ourselves drowning in distractions, our attention ensnared by the weapons of mass distraction – our phones. From the moment we wake up, we’re bombarded by a barrage of information, a surefire recipe for overthinking. Fear not, ladies and gentlemen, as your friendly guide in mindfulness and meditation, I’m here to share some creative strategies to navigate through this maze of incessant thoughts.

Make a Date with Anxiety

First, let’s talk about setting a time for worry. It might sound counterintuitive, but trust me on this one. Block out 30 minutes a day in your calendar to let those worries run wild. It’s like scheduling a date with your anxieties. When midnight comes knocking and your mind starts racing, you’ll realize you’ve already done your worrying for the day.

Move Your Body

Exercise emerges as another beacon to guide us out of the overthinking madness. Get that blood flowing, infuse oxygen into that brain of yours. Research even suggests that exercise helps calm down the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal region. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a swim, or some good old-fashioned yoga, let your body be the hero in this stress-busting tale.

Let It Be

Now, channel a bit of the Beatles with “Let It Be.” Surrender, not in defeat, but in trust. Life is happening for you, not to you. Trust that everything will work out, and remember the wisdom found in beholding the lilies of the field – they don’t try to grow; they just grow. It’s about letting things be and allowing life to live through you.

Go on a Media Fast

In the age of digital overload, remember, we’re not in competition with machines. Turn off the news, limit your phone time, and cut down on those weapons of mass distraction. Give yourself the gift of being fully present as a human being.

De-frag Your Brain

When it comes to meditation, think of it as defragging your hard drive. Create space in your mind, find that open, spacious awareness. Sit down, get comfortable, take a deep breath. Feel the weight of your body, the aliveness within.

OM – Open Monitering

In this meditation journey, practice open monitoring. Sit on the park bench of your mind, observing life without judgment. Thoughts come and go, sensations rise and fall, but you are the director, not entangled in the movie, but aware of the vast screen upon which it plays. Recognize that you are the creator of your own narrative.

As we wrap up our journey to calm down that overthinking mind, let’s remember that you’re the boss of your thoughts. Let them come and go, like clouds in the sky. It’s like changing the channel on your mind’s TV – find the one that brings peace.

As the renowned philosopher Lao Tzu wisely puts it, “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” Reflect on this as you navigate through the hustle and bustle. Sometimes, slowing down and embracing the natural pace of life can lead to profound clarity.

Until next time, stay cool, and keep on rocking.

If you enjoyed this post and you’d like to read more like this just head over to ClarityMind.com and subscribe to my weekly newsletter.

Howdy folks, it’s me, your friendly creative meditation teacher and mindset coach strolling through the vast landscapes of the mind, here to share a little wisdom about something close to…

Howdy folks, it’s me, your friendly creative meditation teacher and mindset coach strolling through the vast landscapes of the mind, here to share a little wisdom about something close to my heart – knowing yourself.

Now, pull up a chair, let’s have a chat.

This morning, I remember reading about a saying etched on an ancient temple in Greece – “Know Thyself.” A simple phrase that carries the weight of centuries and calls us to explore the depths within. Back when I was 26, knee-deep in meditation, an ardent spiritual seeker, I stumbled upon the idea that knowing oneself is a journey worth taking.

Imagine this, you’re asked, “Who are you?” and you start listing roles – a parent, a sibling, a friend. But, hold on a minute, are you just the role you’re playing? Are you defined by your ever-changing body, fleeting thoughts, or the rollercoaster of emotions? It’s like trying to catch the wind in your hands, isn’t it?

As my buddy Heraclitus said, “No man crosses the same river twice. Different man, different river.” We’re in a constant state of change, especially our bodies. So, what about our thoughts? They’re like shirts we change – always evolving, always new. Emotions? Well, they’re as unpredictable as the waves dancing on the ocean.

Now, you might think, “If I’m not my body, thoughts, or emotions, what in the world am I?” It’s a question worth pondering, my friends. One way to approach it is to ask, “Who am I not?” Flip the script and see what unfolds.

I turned to the wise words of Ramana Maharshi, an old mystic I read back in the day. He said, “Enlightenment is courage – courage to look at oneself deeper and really, really see yourself.” So, if you’re up for the challenge, let’s take a journey within, find a quiet corner, and let’s talk about the art of knowing yourself in just 8 minutes.

Stillness: The Gateway to Self-Discovery

Picture this – a glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda. Stir it up, and the particles float around. Let it be, and they settle down, revealing clarity. Meditation, contemplation, and reflection are like letting those swirling thoughts and experiences settle down. It’s a discipline, sure, but it’s in the stillness that you find the truth.

Ramana Maharshi said, “The purpose of our life is to recognize the nature of our true being.” So, in the quiet, when the dust settles, we find open awareness, spaciousness. We become aware. I am awareness, you are awareness. It’s a revelation that brings joy, a natural state unburdened by the chaos of the mind.

Why Bother Knowing Thyself?

Now, you might ask, “Why take this journey?” Well, let me tell you, knowing yourself is like having a superpower. It helps you understand your beliefs, values, strengths, and weaknesses. It guides your decisions, your goals, and your relationships. It’s the compass that leads you through the stormy seas of life.

Remember, where were you yesterday? Last week? Five years ago? You were there, right? Now, it gets a bit tricky when we ask, “Who was there?” That’s the esoteric part, the abstract dance of self-discovery.

Three Tips for the Road Ahead

Before I hit the road, let me leave you with three valuable tips for your journey:

1 – Embrace Stillness: Find a quiet space, let the mental particles settle, and discover the clarity within. It’s in the stillness that you find the true melody of your soul.

2 – Ask “Who am I Not?”: Flip the script and explore who you are not. Sometimes, knowing what you’re not is the key to unraveling the mystery of who you are.

3 – Practice Mindfulness: Develop the habit of being present without judgment. Accept life as it is, not as you think it should be. In that awareness, find the joy, the lightness, and the peace you seek.

So, my friends, there you have it – the art of knowing yourself in 8 minutes or less. Take a stroll in the garden of self-discovery, and who knows, you might find the roses blooming within.

Until next time, keep on rocking!

I help stressed-out creative entrepreneurs overcome overthinking, reset their mindset for better decisions, focus, peak productivity, and a burnout-free, best-life journey.

Let me share a story about a journey into the heart of emotions—a wild ride of feeling your feelings—and how I found freedom amidst turbulence. Picture a world where problems…

Let me share a story about a journey into the heart of emotions—a wild ride of feeling your feelings—and how I found freedom amidst turbulence.

Picture a world where problems cease to exist. Well, buckle up because today, we’re diving deep into the realm of mindfulness, self-discovery, and facing your fears.

Feelings are like the soundtrack of our lives, playing in the background, shaping our experiences. Sometimes, we let them take the wheel without realizing it. But what if we could change the tune, rewrite the script, and let the feelings flow without resistance?

I’ve been on this road, and let me tell you, it’s a journey worth taking. Picture this: awareness and meta-cognition, the ability to think about our thinking, as a superpower. Why? Because it frees the subconscious from the shackles of repressed feelings. It’s like radical acceptance, allowing everything to be just as it is, especially those feelings you’ve been unconsciously ignoring.

Now, mindfulness—that’s the key. Bring your attention to the present moment without judgment. It’s about ditching the habit of imagining what things might be and embracing them for what they are. As I like to say, “Accepting life the way it is not what you think it should be.”

Facing Fear of Flying

Let me share a personal tale from the days when I was afraid of flying. Anxiety would grip me at the airport, and every bump in the air became a looming disaster. It got so bad that I swore off flying. But, in a moment of courage, I decided to confront that fear head-on. Exposure therapy, they call it. I booked flights, faced the turbulence, and slowly, the fear dissipated. I changed my mindset, reframed my thoughts, and embraced the joy of flying.

Now, let’s talk about the roots of our feelings—those early strategies we developed as children seeking safety. Maybe our emotional needs weren’t met, leading to fears and coping mechanisms that stick with us into adulthood. Imagine being afraid to feel your feelings when you were younger. What did you do? Repressed them, developed strategies to avoid them, and carried those disowned feelings into your adult life.

I get it. I had my share of disowned feelings too. A mother who, despite her love, couldn’t attend to my emotional needs as much as I wished. So, I stashed away feelings of inadequacy and fear. But lately, I’ve been feeling more of my feelings, facing them with mindfulness. It’s like peeling back the layers of stories we tell ourselves—the narratives that entertain us, like a movie with all the drama, action, and adventure we crave.

Here’s a little trick I use: I maintain a journal folder labeled “My Favorite Problems.” I identify recurring fears, anxieties, and stories, then confront them. I expose myself to those feelings, pinpoint where they manifest in my body, and pose three simple questions:

Will this feeling kill me?

Will it harm me?

Is it a real problem?

I repond with a resounding “So What!” and grant myself permission to feel these emotions indefinitely. It’s a lightning strike—a process of facing feelings, shedding unnecessary baggage, and realizing that our self-narratives are for personal entertainment. Gradually, the ego fades away from neglect, and an unparalleled sense of freedom and lightness emerges.

So, let me leave you with this tip for today – feel your feelings, face your fears, and watch the lightning of awakening strike. It’s time to drop the unnecessary drama and embrace the freedom that comes from truly accepting yourself, just as you are.

Rock on.

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching about what really gets me fired up. So, I dusted off my trusty Stratocaster, plugged it into my amp, and connected it…

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching about what really gets me fired up. So, I dusted off my trusty Stratocaster, plugged it into my amp, and connected it to a digital audio workstation. Experimenting with the presets led me to this killer rock, crunch, distortion guitar sound that just felt right. About 45 minutes into my session, it hit me—I’m having a blast, feeling alive, and truly in the zone.

Now, as a super creator, I’ve learned that it’s best to let go of the incessant thoughts during the creative process. So, I cleared my mind, allowing inspiration to flow. Noodling around on the guitar, just having fun, sparked new ideas, new sounds, and suddenly, I found myself jotting down lyrics. The melody took me on a journey, and before I knew it, I had the seeds of a new composition recorded on my phone.

Reflecting on my creative process, it dawned on me—thinking is the enemy of flow. The moment you start pondering the why of creating a song or a piece of art, it steals away the pure enjoyment of the creative act. We, as humans, have this inherent need for reasons, purposes, and outcomes. But what if the purpose or outcome really didn’t matter? What if the journey was the true essence? That’s been my recent focus—shifting from outcome-driven thinking to reveling in the journey itself.

So, fellow creators, listen up. Being mindful during the creative process allows us to delve into the intention behind our craft. Focusing on the joy, on what truly lights us up, becomes more crucial than the financial outcome or the reason for undertaking a project. It’s about finding fulfillment in the act of creation rather than being bogged down by the pressures of success.

Picture this: you’re creating without a care, no thoughts about making money or getting ahead. The purpose becomes the journey itself. In the realm of creative entrepreneurship, where outcomes often dictate actions, it’s time to shift the focus. Let the journey dictate the rhythm, not the destination.

In this pursuit of creative expression, where the drive for success can sometimes overshadow the true essence of creation, let’s redefine what success means. Release the grip of overthinking, let go of the obsession with outcomes, and embrace the joy of the creative process with an open heart and a focused mind. Ultimately, it’s not about the destination; it’s about relishing the unpredictable road that takes you there.

P.S. Thanks for reading.
In 2008, I embarked on a creative journey, intertwining my roles as a long-time meditator and a musician and songwriter. This venture resulted in the creation of a CD project…

In 2008, I embarked on a creative journey, intertwining my roles as a long-time meditator and a musician and songwriter. This venture resulted in the creation of a CD project titled “Soul Affirmation: Music for Better Outcomes,” a fusion of music and affirmations. Beyond its musical dimension, I envisioned this project as a new genre, coining it “affirmation music.” By seamlessly incorporating affirmations into the music, my goal was to craft a holistic experience uplifting listeners both musically and spiritually.

In the dynamic world of creativity, the pursuit of perfection can be a double-edged sword. As a long-time meditator with a background as a musician and songwriter, I understand the intricate dance between the desire for excellence and the potential pitfalls of perfectionism.

Artists are usually the toughest critics of their own work. But looking back on the project, and with fresh perspective, I admit that I got caught up in trying to make everything too perfect. Perhaps it was a bit too polished, too clinical, lacking the spontaneity of a group of musicians playing together in the same room.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m immensely proud of the work I created. Amy’s gorgeous voice shines through the entire project, and I take pride in my arrangements and guitar work. Sonically, I believe it’s a 10 out of 10.

The Perfectionism Trap

My personal experience taught me that the pursuit of perfection can become a trap, squeezing the vitality out of creative work. Hours spent meticulously refining every detail may result in a technically impressive outcome, but the soul and warmth that characterize truly exceptional art are often sacrificed in the process.

I now realize that my perfectionism might be rooted in a quest for flawlessness, stemming from underlying feelings of low self-worth or inadequacy. I had a need to control every aspect of the creative project, which can lead to overthinking and a loss of the spontaneous and authentic elements that breathe life into artistic endeavors.

Tips for Navigating Long Projects

Embarking on extensive projects, such as my album “Soul Affirmation: Music for Better Outcomes,” which took four years of dedicated effort, requires a mindful approach to prevent losing sight of the creative forest amid the trees. Here are tips, grounded in a mindset of mindfulness, to guide you through your creative journey:

Love the Process: Ensure that you genuinely love the creative process. Cultivating a mindset of passion for what you’re creating will sustain you through the challenges and prevent burnout.

Set Milestones: Break down your project into manageable milestones. Celebrate small victories along the way to maintain motivation and a sense of accomplishment.

Pay Attention to First Takes: Thought is the enemy of flow. One valuable lesson I learned is that the immediacy of first takes, the unfiltered and authentic expressions captured in the moment, often turns out to be the hero takes. These moments carry a unique energy and spontaneity that can be lost in the pursuit of perfection through endless revisions.

Embrace Imperfections: Understand that imperfections are not flaws but rather unique elements that contribute to the authenticity of your work. Embrace them as part of the creative journey, fostering a mindset that appreciates the beauty in the imperfect.

Prioritize Enjoyment: While aiming for excellence is commendable, prioritize enjoying the process over obsessing about perfection. Find joy in each step, and let that joy infuse your work with vitality, promoting a mindful and positive mindset.

Stay Connected to the Vision: Regularly revisit your initial vision for the project. This mindful practice helps you maintain focus and ensures that perfectionism doesn’t derail you from your creative intent. Keeping your vision in mind fosters a mindset aligned with the true essence of your creative endeavor.

Time Sensitivity with Constraints: Don’t take too long. Extended projects risk losing their aliveness. Sometimes, creating constraints can help focus the project. Embrace limitations as opportunities for creative innovation, ensuring a balance between efficiency and the vibrancy of your work.

In conclusion, the path to creative fulfillment involves a delicate balance between the pursuit of excellence and the acceptance of imperfections. As a super creative, I encourage you to embark on your creative journey with mindfulness, embracing the inherent beauty in the imperfect strokes of your artistic expression. Remember, it’s the beautifully imperfect brushstrokes that create the masterpiece.
