But this is for my cousins just so they know.

Gran came to Colorado to visit me this past week. Clark knows how much I love her and how much I have missed her since we have moved and he bought her a plane ticket for my birthday present. (He's awesome!) It was such a fun week. I had to work but we still had some great times.

Monday: We picked Gran up and had dinner, FHE, and played yahtzee (gran had the worst luck).

Tuesday: Gran and I watched a really strange but intriguing movie from 1979 about a lady who has a deformed face and gets plastic surgery. There was also a love story and lies and all the things that make up a strange but intriguing movie in there too.

Wednesday: We went to Sams, WalMart, and Panda Express and then watched The Help.

Thursday: I had the day off but I spent 3 hours at the DMV while Gran did all my laundry and cleaned my whole house (She Rocks!!). After that awful experience at the DMV, we made dinner and went on a chilly walk to Kohls then, we watched the BYU football game once Clark got home from his business trip. (Gran loved watching the game and I'm really glad they won because, wow, she was nervous!)

Friday: We went to Red Robin and played Phase 10 of course!

Saturday: Today we dropped her off at the airport and I was really sad to see her go.

I wanted you all to know what we did just to give you an update.

SO this fun week sparked an idea in my head. Gran reminded me of my roots and how much I owe to my parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents for the convictions I have, the goals I have met and the opportunities I have been blessed with. I want to give you a list of what Gran has taught me and I hope you have learned the same from her or will learn it from her because she really is the greatest Grandma.

Here's the list of some of the things I have learned from Gran:

1- Major and Minor. When I was really little, Gran taught me what tragedies were major and which were minor. Major things are bleeding, death, major accidents, sin etc. Minor things are bad hair days. I still have to ask myself if something is major or minor. If it is major then you can cry and be sad and pray a lot. If it is minor you can pray to get over it because it is so silly to be frustrated about.

2- Service. Gran has had the calling of compassionate service leader in Ashton 2nd ward for the last threeish years. She may technically and officially be the compassionate service leader now but really she has always held that calling personally. Gran is so good at knowing when there is a need. Then, she responds so quickly to those in need and always knows the right thing to do. It is easy to do service when you have seen your grandma and aunts do it so naturally without complaint.

3- Support and Love. While Gran was here I heard about each of you at least twice. I heard about what your trials were, what accomplishments you have achieved recently, who you associate with and everything you were involved in currently. Gran loves us unconditionally and she really is proud of all of you and worries about you when you are sad or scared or starting something new. She knows how to love her grandchildren. I really hope I can be better at supporting and loving all of you.

4- Wholesome Recreation. Gran knows how to have fun. We don't need grand parties, excursions or vacations to have a good time when we are together. Some of my favorite memories are playing games with Gran and Grandpa... we had so much fun. Gran enjoys a good football game, a nice chat, a game of Phase 10, a little shopping and a walk around the neighborhood. I love that we know how to have real wholesome fun because of our Gran.

5- Priorities. I have never had to question what Gran thought was most important. She loves her Savior and being a wife and mother. The gospel and her family are most important. She has taught me where my priorities should lie.

So cousins... I hope you understand just how good we have it. We are so lucky that Gran is ours. Make sure you always show her how great she is by allowing the lessons she has taught you and her example make you better.
The last 24 hours have been filled with fun and I'm sure the next few days will be perfect. This morning I was speaking with my parents about memorial day. I was asking why we decorated this holiday with American flags (yes I didn't know and it's embarrassing kind of). So my dad explained that it was initially created for the veterans and it was called remembrance day. I love that name way more than memorial day. I think the thought of remembering something is more inviting and romantic than that of memorializing something. In essence the two words are the same however, I love the word remember more.

This weekend for me is usually filled with barbecues and family time/vacation. It usually is just a holiday that marks the beginning of Summer. This year it is different. My heart is very close to the spirit of this day and that is to remember those who have passed. I have been very blessed to have so many people that have come before me who have made my life significantly better by their actions. There are two people in particular that I wanted to remember during this special weekend. .

I have a great grandma and her name was Lulu. I love her name. I love it enough that I want to name a child after her but I don't know how big that would go over. My grandma Lulu died when I was young. I didn't know her very well but I will be forever indebted to the person she was and the role she played in my dad's life. She was a very strong, hard-working and devout LDS woman.

My dad came from a broken home with acholism and many divorces and remarriages. Although his home life wasn't ideal, my dad had very loving parents who let him make choices for himself and become the person that he wanted to become. I love them for allowing him to do so. Dad, at a young age, decided to move from his mother's home and live with Grandma Lulu. He told me this decision to move was agonizing and difficult but in the end he felt the best about living with his Grandma and Grandpa. They owned a farm and worked very hard. She evidently made the best carrot cake around and my dad loved working, eating, and living there. Eventually, he moved out and when he did he had a momentary period where he quit going to church. He recounts the story by explaining that one Sunday he woke up and thought to himself, "What am I doing? Why am I not at church?" He then went to the Bishop and told him he was part of that ward and wanted to be accountable to him. He wanted to go to church every Sunday. He didn't miss after that. My dad desired to grow in the gospel.

After he graduated, he started thinking about a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. These missions usually cost quite a bit of money... money that he (a teenage boy living on his own for the past few years) didn't have. He went to Grandma Lulu and said, "Grandma I have really thought about it and I want to serve a mission. I have no idea how I'll pay for it but I really want to go." Grandma Lulu replied, "I was hoping you would say that. I have been saving for your mission. I have all the money saved up and I will help you go on that mission."

I cannot express how much her generosity has impacted my life. I am so grateful for a great grandma that cared so much about my father. He had a father who let him down a lot and she never did. She showed him a very good way to live. She sacrificed time, effort, and money to raise a teenage boy that needed love and support. She played a huge part in making my dad the man he is today and I really love my dad.

I want to remember my Lulu May this remembrance day because without her I don't know what kind of life I would have had but with her I know that I have a father who received love, support and guidance at a time he needed it the most. I will forever love her for that. I cannot wait to meet her in heaven and hug her. I cannot wait to sincerely and deeply thank her for how she treated my father and the time she invested in him. I am indebted to her.

The other person I need to remember and will never forget is my Grandpa Joe. My heart aches for the day I get to see him again. My grandpa was a convert to the church. Once he decided he would be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he got baptized and never looked back. I could tell the story of his conversion or of his past. I could tell you his cool, funny and scary childhood stories but I want to tell you about the man I knew.

One of my earliest memories of my grandpa involved church. I was visiting my Grandparents and I would be attending their church the next day. Saturday night my grandmother put together little baggies of whoppers for all the primary children. I sat there watching her. My grandpa came in and spoke with her. I remember him listening to her advice and discussing what he would be doing the next day. I didn't really know what they were talking about or why she was assembling malt balls in ziploc bags.

The next day in primary my grandpa (a member of the bishopric) came into the primary room to give the children a lesson. He began the story of David and Goliath. As he told the story, the malt balls were being passed out to the children. Then he stood on the table. He gave us a lesson about the difference in height of David and Goliath and with the help from God and some little stones (the size of whoppers) David was able to conquer this huge man. He ended the lesson with his testimony about the stories of the Bible and Book of Mormon. I remember vividly this statement, "The Book of Mormon is the most correct book on this Earth. It is revelation for these days. We need to read it and learn from the stories told in it." I loved my Grandpa because he could relate to me. As a child, he could help me understand the importance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

He didn't just relate to me in this way. He also supported me in every other aspect of my life. My grandpa spent hours at jr. miss, dance recitals and helping me with math homework. I love my grandpa's interest in life. He loved all sporting events and knew every rule to every sport. He loved driving and looking for wildlife. He was a fisherman and I loved having fish and pancakes for breakfast after one of his good ice fishing trips. He played games with me and always won. Even when my gran and I would cheat together he would still win. During a summer when I was in middle school, I spent a week with my grandparents. Every day that week we would go on a walk and we also would watch the national spelling bee on TV while eating a bag of cherries. He put up with me dancing in front of the TV while he tried to watch sporting events. He went Black Friday shopping with us. As he got older, he became very interested in hummingbirds and watched them at a feeder placed outside his window. He was a very manly man but he found interest in the beauty of all God's creations. Ultimately, he loved his family and his role as a father was the most important to him. He raised six girls with my grandma. He and my gran made my mom the sports fanatic and gospel loving woman she is and I'm so thankful. I love my mom.

My grandpa fought kidney failure his whole life. He was sick all the time but he was strong for us. He had three kidney transplants in his lifetime and to the donors I will be eternally thankful. My freshman year of college he became more and more ill. Aunt Kristi donated her kidney to him a few years previous and now he had bone cancer and the kidney was failing. I got a call one Sunday morning before I headed to church. It was my mom. She told me that my grandpa was really sick and that he had decided to quit taking his medications and not fight the cancer. He was going to die. I remember sitting in that apartment beside myself. I asked my mom what we were going to do next. She said that we were probably going to go and say goodbye but that I needed to go to church. I took my phone to sacrament meeting and after taking the sacrament received a call from my mom. She told me to come home and we would drive as a family together to Ashton. When we arrived in Ashton. The feeling I had felt of peace and warmth and comfort at my Gran's home was now very somber. We all sat in the front room and we were called back one by one to talk to grandpa. My gran told me that it was my turn. I walked back to their room. My grandpa was laying in bed. He looked really sick and was really sick. I immediately began bawling and so did he. As we hugged, he kept saying, "Oh Brynnie, oh Brynnie I'm going to miss you so much. I love you so much." Then he gave me some council about how to live my life to the fullest. I told him how much I loved him and then I left the room. I was devastated. He died exactly one week later. My heart aches reliving that moment. What I love about the memories I have with my grandpa is that I will have more. My grandpa didn't say goodbye to me. He said that he would miss me. He knew that I would see him again and I know that too.

This remembrance day I hope we can all remember those who have passed on before us and who have impacted our lives. I hope we can feel happy and at peace with the memories we have. Mostly, I hope we can be grateful for our Savior, Jesus Christ, who died for us so we could live forever with our families again. Because of Him, we can repent and return together. Because of our Savior, I will be reunited with my grandma Lulu and my grandpa again. Lulu May and Grandpa Joe led lives that exemplified faith in our Savior Jesus Christ. I hope to leave a legacy and memories for others like they did for me.

- "Well... I've decided that I can either laugh at all the problems I have or I can cry. It's okay to cry once in a while but better when you laugh."

- "I decided to quit my mundane job that made a lot of money and do things I love like write, create art and spend A LOT of time with my kids. My kids just knew me as the man that ate dinner with them sometimes. After I quit my job, I had a real relationship with my kids and I will never regret the pay-cut I took for that."

- "Life has given me a second chance. I want to mend any relationship I've made a mess of."

- "I think my biggest accomplishment in my life is being a mom and grandmother. I wish everyone had the chance to have children."

- "There are some moments in life you wish could just stand still but everything changes and then you realize that moment was a pretty big deal in the scheme of things."

- "You never will know how much you miss someone until they are gone. I wish I would have cherished time with my family more."

A lot of the patients that I have seen can't express what they are thinking... I am so happy to be in a profession where communication is the goal. I'm also so happy to learn from and help people who can tell me what they are thinking. I have been touched by each patient whether they can verbally communicate the lessons they have learned or reach out to me through the spirit that resonates in them.

I love the field I have chosen.

The take-home message my patient have given me is:

- Family is the most important thing.

- Treating others kindly is equally as important.

- Laughing through trials is always the best way to handle it even when crying is an option.

- In the end the little moments will be the big moments. Cherish them.

Thank you to the patients at IMC. I have been truly blessed to be part of your recovery and life.

I began my internship at the IMC in Murray. Wow... is it crazy busy. I usually get there by 7:30 and I'm done at maybe 4:00. I get to see help patients with a wide range of disabilities caused by strokes, TBI, illness and disease. My therapy consists of swallowing, cognition and language. I would never trade the experience I am getting now for anything and I'm a little hesitant to say this and put it in writing but I think I have found my niche. I hesitate because I don't want to be bound to one part of this profession quite yet. That is the beauty of my profession, I can work with infants, toddlers, school age children, teenagers, adults and the elderly. I have loved it all minus school age children. They are the best but I don't love the school as much as the other places I have been.

Anyway (I ramble a lot), this internship has made me think in so many many ways. On a day-to-day basis I see people in grief, people thankful they are alive, people looking at the positive, people dwelling on the negative, people whose family don't show up to help them, people whose family show up and are extremely supportive etc.

I see lots of families and people from all walks of life with one common goal: RECOVERY.

It is amazing the people I have met and the stories I have been able to hear. I receive life advice and counsel daily from my patients and I love it. So.... as I said this internship, in the 2 weeks I have been there, has made my mind go places it never has. I have had to stretch my knowledge of medical terms and therapy, as well as think about life as a whole and why I'm here and all of the sudden life has become so much more precious and the people in my life have become even more important.

I know on my blog I share some deep thoughts rolling in my head and I want anyone who reads this to know that these thoughts are my own. They are not meant to offend nor will they ever be. This is not a disclaimer for the rest of the passage but something I needed to say to ensure that no one will ever be upset by something I write. What I write is deeply personal and real. I love when others share personal lessons they have learned or gratitude they have felt or testimony they have developed, I want to do the same.

Back to the hospital, (my mind is a jumbled mess today) I have been thinking about how I am going to remember these sweet people whom I have gotten to know so well in the past weeks. I have decided I want to write a lesson I have learned from each one of my patients. I will never include names or identifying information so this isn't violating any laws, but it is going to help me remember the life lessons I have learned, promptings I have received and advice I have been given.

I emailed JD the other day and told him how my internship was going and I told him I loved it so much because I felt so close to my Savior.

I had an impression the first day that I never want to forget. In my head I had the distinct thought, "Brynne these are your brothers and sisters that you are helping to function in everyday life. Isn't it a blessing you get to hold such a role in their lives?" I have never understood until that moment why people say, "my career is so fulfilling".

I never went on a mission for my church which is fine but I love sharing the message of the gospel. One thing I love most about sharing the gospel is conveying to others how much their Savior, Jesus Christ, loves them and how through Him we will be eternal families. I know I can't preach my religion in a hospital but I can live it. I feel so lucky to hold a place in these patients lives... for a short time I get to help them recover, help them feel valued despite their circumstances but mostly help them feel cared for and loved. I get to learn to be more like my Savior. He heals. He listens. He comforts. He watched over. He wants the best for all of us. I am not saying I am these patients Savior but I am saying that I feel so close to my Savior by helping these people. I have never cared so much for people I didn't know and it is because the thought of helping my heavenly brothers and sisters became so real to me that day I received that impression. This career is so fulfilling. I love it so much. I never thought I would be able to say that about any career/livelihood (except motherhood) but I truly can now.

So for the next eight weeks while I miss my husband while he is working in Logan and I am here. I am going to write about lessons I have learned from those I have gotten to work with. These people are amazing and have touched my life more than they ever will know.

As I was walking vigorously to my class the other day I was looking at all the graves and by one I saw an elegant elderly lady dressed warmly for the brisk weather. Her hair was tucked into a hat and she had a beautiful red lipstick on. In her hand she carried a wreath. I watched her as I walked. She set a wreath down by a grave and stood up as she pulled a handkerchief out of her pocket. Her shoulders sulked as she pressed the handkerchief to her eyes.

I passed her and continued to walk. At the beginning of my walk, I was thinking about the billion things I had to do that day and now the only thing I was thinking of was her. I wondered how long it had been since this person (I assume her husband) had passed. I wondered if she always dressed so beautifully before coming to her loved ones grave. I wondered why she had to be alone. I was so sad as I looked at this lady, who is most likely, a wonderful woman mourn. I was sad that she would be spending Christmas without the person she loved the most.

Then as I continued to think about her as I got closer and closer to campus I started to think of all the things she had gained because she had loved this person. She had gained someone who was her confidant, her partner in crime and her best friend. She and this special someone probably had many Christmases together singing carols and sharing gifts. She probably bore a few wonderful children and now has many grandchildren who enrich her life and look to her as a grandmother. She probably grew old with her best friend. They probably went on adventures, faced trials, celebrated victories and laughed a lot together. I began to understand her loss more. Then I began to feel guilty for ever taking for granted any person in my life who has added joy to it.

My mind has been on this experience for most of the week. I am finishing up at Utah State this semester. I will graduate in May with my best friend, Clark. Our lives will change drastically in the next few months. This month I will say so many goodbyes to people I have come to truly love throughout my education. I know my loss is different than the lady I observed. However, I want to note that some of the goodbyes I say will truly feel like a loss. I will leave people I have spent much of my time with and may not ever see some of them again. I also want to note how this loss is making me realize how much I have gained. I have gained some true friends, some great examples and some lifelong memories that I wouldn't trade for anything. I want to mention just a few of these people who have made my life easier and will make me miss this very hard but rewarding experience of graduate school.

- A: Ever since undergrad I have admired your quiet presence. You do not have to be loud or flamboyant to make yourself known and I wish I was more like that. You were such an amazing partner at CETC and taught me a different way to be as a clinician because I often am a loud and flamboyant person. Your quiet yet very educated and confident presence has helped me learn that I don't need to always say what's on my mind to be heard. I love that about you.

- J: Besides always looking adorable everytime I see you, you have taught me the power of going through trials. I cannot believe you have faced a whole semester away from your husband and how that has probably affected every aspect of your life but you continue to have a bright countenance and cheery disposition and you push through. You have taught me persistence and for that I am forever thankful.

- J: I really want to thank you for how you always seemed to know what to say to me when I was stressed out or sad. You made me feel like what I was going through at any point in time was important by listening to me in the materials room and caring about what I had to say and giving advice when needed. I don't think you'll know how your example has really affected my experience.

- A: Man... I will miss your contagious laugh and bubbly personality. You always seem to be able to make any negative situation one that we can laugh at. Thank you.

- A: I love how you fall asleep in class sometimes. Most of all, I love how you love the field of speech-pathology. You are such a positive person. I love that I have never heard a bad word about someone else come out of your mouth. I really admire the person you are. Thanks for showing me how to be better.

-A: Thank you for being a constant example of a person who loves the Savior. When I am around you your love for your husband, family and the Savior radiates. I love that about you. Thanks for being a peaceful place during grad school. I'm happy you served a mission for the LDS church because I bet you changed a lot of lives.

- A: Ever since sign language 2 I have loved the person you are. I look to the example of you and your husband so much in how I want to show love to my husband. You are awesome in so many ways!

- J: I absolutely love your sense of humor. I love that you were a ballerina and I love that you are so girly. Thank you for being a breath of fresh air. I feel like every interaction I have had with you has been a positive one because you are so kind and you look at life and laugh about it. I wish I was more like you.

- A: You are the best partner a girl could ask for. You are hilarious and wonderful and make me want to be a better person whenever I talk to you. Thanks for being so awesome to be around and thanks for being funny it really helped me out.

- K: You are superwoman. Thank you for sharing your son with all of us. I will miss that little guy but mostly I will miss seeing your face when you see him after one of us has tended him all day while you were busy. I will miss seeing you hold and cuddle him and stare at him with the loving look that I hope I will give my children someday. I have seen you grow from I graduate student into a mother and you have done it so gracefully. I hope I can follow your example.

- M: I will miss your laugh. SO MUCH. It is the cutest thing ever. And when you whisper things in the back row like "she speaks?" And it makes my whole day.

- L: I will miss how you were willing to help me with clinic ideas, labs, homework etc. You are really good at helping others.

- S: I love how you care about others and I feel so happy for anyone who gets to be part of your life because of how good and caring you really are.

- K: I really think you're the greatest. I love your energy. You make me feel like a slacker a lot and I hope that I can grow up to be a person that has that much energy and enjoys the beauty of the earth and the strength of her body as much as you do. I love how you love your dogs. I think about how you rescued Luna and think that role fits you. You are a rescuer.

-M: I just cry when I think about saying goodbye to you. I don't really think I can put into words just how much I have learned from you and how happy I am that you are my friend. You have taught me a lot about the kind of person I want to become. I love who YOU are. I love your strength. I love your how genuine you are. I love how you look at life. I cannot wait until we have a connecting breezeway between our houses with horses in the back pasture.

- B: I have never met someone I have clicked with so fast. I know that we annoy each other sometimes but mostly I know that you are one of my best friends and throughout all the hard times we've faced these few years we came out still best friends. I'm so happy you came into my life when you did. Thank you for listening and analyzing and studying and chilling and everything else you did with me. I'm forever thankful that we crossed paths.

So... that lady in the cemetery taught me that the reason why we visit the cemetery isn't because we are sad we have lost someone so special but is because we are so happy we have gained a person in our life who has taught us so much, helped us learn true love, showed us affection and given us a reason to be joyful.

Stir Crazy!

So today I have been sick... really sick. Therefore I have been laying in bed working on my thesis and trying to get rest. It's. The. Worst. So I am feeling a little bit stir crazy and decided instead of moaning about it I'm going to document some of the fun stuff that Clark and I did this summer together. We have really done a lot of fun things and that was our goal this summer. We are lucky people.

Our summer began with us moving to North Salt Lake. Clark is an intern for Chevron in the public health and safety/industrial hygiene department. I am an extern (don't ask me what the difference is) for Wasatch Speech and Language Center. Our internships didn't start until the week after we moved so we decided we were going to take a trip to Disneyland. And that is where our fun began this summer. Here's my list of the adventures we have been able to do!

1- DISNEYLAND- This trip was so much fun. We began the trip by visiting my Aunt Kathy and her family in Overton, Nevada. We went to a May Fest where my cousins Ally, Sam and Gary performed. Then we left for Disneyland. We got to our hotel and went to the beach and Ruby's Diner. Day 2 we went to Disneyland. Day 3 was California Adventure. Day 4 was a mix of both and our favorite rides. Day 5 was the beach and the drive back home. We really worked the Fastpasses at the parks and got to go on everything we wanted to multiple times. It was a blast! Clark is so fun to hang out with so of course we had a great time.

We went to the beach when we got to Cali. We ate out on the pier at Ruby's Diner. Best Shakes Ever!

2- An over-nighter in Park City- We used some of our hotel points and stayed in Park City. It consisted of a 10 mile run and eating fish at The Eating Establishment. Loved it.

3- State Track!- I got to go to state track and see my little sis Addie compete and her team take state! Addie did awesome. She got 7th in the long jump and 3rd in the 4x100. It was very fun to hang out with my family and Gran. We went to Krispy Kreme twice... both times it was Gran's idea and it was hilarious. I also gave Addie a garden gnome for a good luck present (long story) but it ended up being in all the pics and the team mascot for the trip.

4- Bees Game- We got to go watch the Bees play. It was my first baseball game I've watched since I watched JD play. We ate sunflower seeds and the Bees lost they were dominated in the 7th inning. We didn't let the loss get to us. (You know I'm being sarcastic right? I would never care if the Bees lost really.)

5- Horseback Ride- I got Clark a groupon for Christmas and we finally redeemed it. We had an hour horseback ride. It was so beautiful and made us both want to own horses. Well... Clark has always wanted to own horses.

6- Utah Valley Half Marathon- We ran the half in Provo with our cousins... Robbie and Grant. Clark came in about a minute before me. It is crazy how natural he is at running without having done it much previously. This is my 3rd half and Clark's 2nd. The pictures are at the start line. We were absolutely freezing. After the marathon we hung out with Robbie, Katie and their sweet baby Lucy. We love hanging with the Jones'.

7- REAL game!- We went to our first Real game with Celeste, Brielle and Abbey. They were so much fun to go with. Celeste got way into it and it was very entertaining. It went into overtime (if that is what you call it in soccer?) and REAL won! Clark's favorite was the official REAL song that everyone sings. He sang it the rest of the night.

8- Tim McGraw- My Aunt Patti bought Clark and I tickets to the Tim concert and it was the best! I got to sing "Something Like That" with Tim and the rest of the concert attendees at the top of my lungs. I loved every minute. We watched the concert with McKayla, her friend Sam, Aunt Patti and Kat. Thanks Aunt Patti! We loved it!

9- Downatta with the Cooks- We went to Downatta Hot Springs with my family and enjoyed the slides and pool. We took books and a picnic and just relaxed. We had a great time especially when Brigham had to call me "Princess of Life Diva" (long story again). My family always shows us a fun time.

10- Houston- Clark went to a convention for all the interns for Chevron in Houston, Texas. He really enjoyed it and even had a driver that picked him up and took him everywhere. He is a working man and I really love that he takes advantage of all the opportunities that he can. He's the best. I was happy when he got back and wish I could have joined him.

11- 4th of July- On the 3rd we enjoyed the Logan fireworks with my family. Then on the 4th we went to the Lewiston Parade (which is one of my favorite things) and then we all napped all day and then went back to Lewiston to the dollar theater to watch EPIC. After Epic, Addie, Brig, Clark and I shot off the fireworks that Clark and I got. The 4th is my FAVORITE holiday.

12- The Backpack- We went on a backpack trip with the Evans' (Scott, Matt, Brielle, Abbey, Cade and Ryan, Dave, Aspen, Bart and Rubie), Jones' (Mike, Rob and Grant) and Humphreys (Ray and Elliott) It was my first time ever doing something like this. We went to Hidden Lake in the Uintah Mountains. It was stunning up there. We hike about 4 miles in and then we fished and had fun at the campfire and enjoying the mountains. We loved it. It was a fun first.

13- Red Iguana + Lone Ranger + Rainbows- We got to go on a date with Dave and Aspen while they are home visiting from Oklahoma. Lone Ranger was such a fun movie and we always love us some Mexican food from Red Iguana and a Rainbow (slushie with ice cream mixed in) from Paces.

14- Pineview Reservoir- Dave and Aspen invited us to go boating with them and their friends at Pineview. The water was extremely pleasant and we got to wakeboard and wake surf. I LOVE BOATING!!! Then we stayed at Aspen's parents and enjoyed their beautiful home in Mountain Green.

I was lucky enough to spend Father's Day in Clifton with my family. Monday morning I woke up and had some work to do for my thesis and I sat there in bed with my laptop, the windows open and the manure lilac air flowing in the window. Manure lilac air does not sound delightful but oh it is. I love the air in Clifton. People complain about the cow smell but that is home to me and I will always love it. So back to the story... I was sitting there in two different worlds. One world where I was the focused graduate student trying to figure out my data for my thesis; and the other where I was a child again waking up early to enjoy the summer morning and be part of my family. They are two completely different worlds and I found myself longing for/reminiscing about my childhood.

The longer I have lived out of my home the more I cherish it and the more I realize what the important things in life are. I realize these important things because I am striving everyday to create home that is like my parents, centered around the important things.

The following is a LIST of what my parents taught me to be of utmost importance:

1- The Savior: Jesus Christ is the center of my childhood home. When you pull up to this home you can see in the front window a picture of the Savior. I've always loved this about my house. I love it because you don't see a TV with the game playing, you see the Savior. I love that so much. I think of my house as a safe haven and who wouldn't feel safe when they pull up to the house and see a picture of the Savior. I hope that my future home can have a window in the front so I can send the message to my children and those coming in that this is a home where we love each other and we love the Savior and we are striving to be like Him. My family fights and quarrels and bickers and murmurs and has contention but at the end of the day when we kneel in prayer no matter what has transpired we (as children) do not doubt who our parents want our home to be centered around. The Savior and the gospel (with all that it entails) are extremely important.

2- Family Time: Cliche as it may sound, family is important. I don't remember a time in my life that I felt like my parents didn't have time for me or weren't there to support me. My parents wanted to be and were involved in EVERY detail of my life from what I needed to eat for breakfast to what extra curricular activity I was involved in, they care and they were there. I have seen my father rush from meetings and work to a basketball game for by sibling because he WANTS to be there. I have seen my mother stay up really really late ironing a dress so it will be ready for Jr. Miss. My dad tucked me throughout most of high school because I WANTED to be tucked in. It made me feel safe and loved. He probably thought I was a little ridiculous at times but he still did it for me. My mom talked to me at 6 am as I walked to the gym every morning my freshman year of college because I WANTED to talk to her. She didn't necessarily have time for that but she did it for me. Being there for your family and caring about their interests and needs is important.

3- Work: My parents insisted that I milk cows in middle school and my brother, I think, started in 5th or 6th grade. They wanted us to be able to know how important work was. They both had to help us get up at 4 o'clock on the mornings we milked. That wouldn't be an easy job as a parent but it was worth it to them because it taught us a valuable lesson. I remember my mom telling me that life is mostly work. It is. I am so glad that my parents taught me when I was young (even though I thought it was a little cruel) how to work. We never had an allowance. We never were given money for doing jobs for our parents because work is part of life. We had to pull our weight in our family and we had to earn money if we wanted extra money. Work teaches discipline and discipline is necessary to achieve goals and earn greater rewards. I'm so happy my parents taught me work is important.

4- Physical and Spiritual Health: I'm glad my parents taught me to be healthy. They never went on any crazy diets or were obsessed with working out but they taught me how to take care of my body and spirit. They taught me how to nourish my body, get enough sleep and create habits of exercise in my life. They also taught me that service, reading my scriptures, prayer, going to church/temple and loving others nourished my spirit. I learned that it is unhealthy to be addicted to ANYTHING and that being healthy is a lifestyle not a fad diet or crazy workout schedule. It is important to take care of the body and spirit our Heavenly Father gave us.

5- Education: My dad is going to be retired military soon and he has gotten a second degree in education and will teach math at Harold B. Lee Middle School. He got this degree while working full-time, being the Bishop of our ward and being a dad. It must have been important to him. He and my mom have always shown and stressed the importance of education and the merit it has in life. A persons quality of life increases when they are educated about the world around them and can contribute knowledge to it. Education is important.

6- Wholesome Recreation: My parents made sure that my life was filled with wholesome recreation. This included: playing a game together, watching March Madness or BYU football, jumping on the trampoline, going on walks, going swimming, creating traditions, going to Bear Lake with extended family, having dance parties while we washed the dishes etc. There was a whole lot of wholesome recreation happening in the home. It is important.

7- Nice: It is nice to be important but it is more important to be nice. I was raised by kind parents. They helped me forgive and be forgiven. It is so important to be nice because everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. Enough said!

I could write more and more but for starters this is what I want to be of utmost importance in my home. I will be forever grateful I was raised by two loving parents who created a home where I always felt comfortable and could strive to become better everyday. Thanks M and D. Love you!

My heart has been hurting lately… hurting because I don’t
know how to make sense of tragedy. I probably will never be able to make sense
of it. In my human eyes, I cannot understand some of the trials people have to
face and some of the decisions people choose to make.

Last Friday, I got a phone call from my Aunt sharing the
awful news that an eight-year-old boy in my gran’s community died because of a
tragic accident. When she called I immediately thought someone had died in my
family. I won’t describe the details of this awful tragedy but I will say that
my cousins and aunts and uncles and my grandma and other members of the
community in Ashton banded together to save this little boy and he passed away.
He was eight-years old and my cousin Hank’s best friend.

My heart breaks for the family who lost this precious
eight-year-old boy. I can’t stand thinking about his parents who have to face a
closet full of clothes and toys that belonged to their precious son. I cry when
I think about the siblings of this little guy that won’t share the laughs and
love that I get to experience with my sibling. I hurt when I think of the
cousins that won’t find a best friend in him. I simply ache for this family and
don’t understand why this had to happen.

Then on Monday as I sat in the materials room on campus
preparing for a session my friend and fellow graduate student Katie came in
with a somber look on her face and I could tell something was wrong. She told
me the news about the Boston Marathon bombings. Immediately, my heart broke.
She shared how she knew multiple people running and watching the race that were
on her triathlon team at Boston University and then I felt very close to the
situation. Someone who I have grown to respect and love was hurting because of
the act of a person to create a bomb to hurt other people.

As the reports came in of the deaths that had occurred at
the marathon, one of them hit close to home. There was a Boston University
graduate student who had died. This could have been our athletic Katie. This
graduate student will miss out walking at graduation and celebrating her
accomplishment. A family who loves her will miss her desperately. Her journey
has been cut short. I do not understand why this had to happen.

So like I said…

My heart hurts.

I know that the families affected will find comfort. I know
that they will see their children again. I know that these individuals whose
lives got cut short will someday soon feel the joy that they missed out on. I know this
because I know we have a Savior and a Heavenly Father who love us and are
merciful. Although, I know this it doesn’t help the hurt sometimes. My brother
stated so eloquently in a letter sent home that “sorrow is a Christ-like
quality”. To be able to feel sorrow for and with others is Christ-like.

I live in Utah. I got married when I was 19 to a man I knew for a little under a year. I want to be a mom (like really really want to be). I go to church.

I'm just a Utah Mormon Girl.

I've also heard that others think I follow blindly. I never question anything in my church, religion or faith and I just do whatever I'm told whenever I'm told to by church leaders. Well this isn't true.

I hate that anyone would ever judge me in that way. I am not one that cares what people think of me... but this really bothers me. I don't like to be considered part of "a mold" and I never will. I like to be considered a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and I always will.

No matter how much people want to think it... there is not "a mold" in our church or even in the world. There simply isn't. The only way this could happen is if we were all identical and did the same things and made the same choices and behaved in the same ways. Wow... what a boring world would that be. I am part of a family of four kids. We have all been raised by the same parents, who love us, and taught us the same way. You could "assume" we all came from the same cook mold but when it comes to what we CHOOSE to believe. It is exactly that... it is a choice.

My siblings and I are all different. We have different challenges, different hair-do's, different talents and different testimonies. We have all made different mistakes, handled these mistakes differently and repented differently. We came from the same parents but we all broke "the mold". We have CHOSEN our path, it wasn't decided for us. We were given knowledge and we choose what to believe and what not to believe. We weren't forced, we were taught.

I am not part of "the mold".

In our church, there is a general conference held every April and October where church leaders and the prophet address the members through talks. They pray and study and fast and pray some more for revelation from our Heavenly Father on what they should say that will: help us be better members of the church, help us be better people in general and most importantly be better servants of God. Many talks inspired me but one gave me utmost clarity about "the mold".

Sister Elaine S. Dalton, the now released president of the young women in our church, gave a talk on being a daughter of our Heavenly Father. This one line has stuck with me and will be something I say to my children.

"She understood who she was, and WHOSE she was."

It is as simple as that. I understand who I am because I know who God is and what he expects of me. I know I am a daughter of God.

I am not part of the Utah Mormon mold... because there isn't one. I don't follow blindly. I have had to question things and find my own answer. I have had to have faith and believe that what I am doing is the right thing. I have had to build my own testimony and I am still working on building my testimony and knowledge every day.

What I am is.. a Member of the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter Day Saints who lives in Utah currently but is from Clifton, Idaho. I am a graduate student who loves the field of speech-language pathology and the people I get to help. I am the oldest of four. I am a wife to a loving husband who is trying to be the best man he can be and is devoted to our happiness as a couple. I married him quickly because he made me happy and I made him happy and I knew forever together wasn't enough. I am a girl that is striving to be a mother because I can't wait to have children I get to nurture and care for that I helped bring into this world. I can't wait to be a the center of a child's life and make someone feel absolutely loved and confident in who they are every. single. day. I go to church because it helps me become a better person and build my testimony and belief in Jesus Christ, my Savior and the way He has set for me to live with my family forever. I have had trials. I have weaknesses. I am not perfect.

I am Brynne. I know who I am and I know whose I am. I am a daughter of God. I am not part of "the mold." I am trying to be part of His mold.

1- These people always make me happy. Clark has been the most understanding husband and has consistently made me fall in love with him again and again this past week. My parents continually tell me I'm in their prayers and I know it to be true. Getting letters and emails from JD always makes my day happy. I'm so proud of the kid. Texting Addie Belle is one of my favorite things to do and I don't do it enough. Just thinking about Brigham doing his creepy face and voice makes me happy. I love these people.

2- I also have the best in-laws. I just had an interview for an externship and after we had the best time eating pizza and watching TV and not thinking about anything but hanging out. They are great. I also have 3 new baby nieces and nephews that are the most darling things in this world. Campbell, Leo and Nora are the cutest. I love hearing about them all and wish I could see them all EVERY.DAY.

3- Friday I felt like all my supervisors liked me. (This is rare.)

4- Eating at Herms Inn with some grad school friends today and then at Tandoori with my honey tonight.

5- Prayer. Scriptures. Church. Anything that helps the spirit reside with me.

6- My run today. 3 words: Lovely, Happy and Endorphins!

7- Sleep. I finally got a good night of rest.

8- My clean house and my laundry done. Thank you CLARK.

I'm sure I could come up with more. This happy list is an effort to help me be more grateful for the life I've been given. Enough complaining. It's time to be happy.

Although I was/am considered the "example" or "trail blazer", I have found that throughout my entire life I have looked to my siblings for example. I know without a doubt they were meant to be my siblings. It wasn't coincidence that JD, Addie and Brigham were mine.

This weekend we celebrated JD's decision to serve a mission for our church. As he gave his talk, I looked at him and was amazed at the words he spoke and the thoughts that were being articulated. He spoke on the love of Christ and how he wanted to carry on the cause. He has the strongest desire to bring others to the gospel through Christlike love... and that is exactly how Christ intended it to be. It was a tender moment for me to realize that the brother that I learned with, fought with, played with, cried with, laughed with and celebrated with was so grown up. JD has overcome a lot in his life and always came out on top because of his faith, so it didn't surprise me to hear the words he spoke and his strong testimony resounding through the chapel. I was simply amazed.

I got to watch Addie play basketball the night before JD gave his talk. She is so athletic and strong and healthy. As I watched her play, I was so proud to be her sister/look alike. She is an athlete. During the JV game, a friend on her team split her eyebrow open and the first one to rush to her aid was my little Addie. She walked her friend off the court and I just watched astounded. Addie is one of the most caring and considerate girls I know.

Brigham was delightful this weekend. I watched him as he played with his younger cousins. They all look to him for friendship and leadership and love. I was eating at JD's dinner after church and three little kids (a lot younger than Brig) came up to me to ask where Brigham was, because they wanted to hang out with him. It amazes me how Brigham is such a good friend at such a young age.

I am so lucky to have the siblings I do. They teach me what is important daily. I am so proud to be their big sis. So as my family embarks on this new stage of life, JD's Mission, it is great to know that through all the trials we may face we have each other.

I've come to learn a lot about how to manage grad school and some tips and tricks to keep my head above the water. I get overwhelmed a lot but I think what has really helped me on some of my hardest days are three things:

- My Grad School Family
- My Clark
- My Savior

Now I know it is kind of cheesy to call the girls you go to school with your family but that is what I feel like we are sometimes. We rejoice when each other succeeds. We sympathize when others are burnt out. We try to help answer questions for each other. I've found that this group of women that I attend school with is simply astounding. It is nice to know that I have others who are going through the same thing as I am. It is also nice to know I have so many examples to look up to. I seriously could list a positive quality/experience I have recognized/had with each girl in my class that I have learned from. I want to mention just a few, that really stick out:

- There is this girl in my class. She is far from home and came here because she had an interest in assisting children, who have hearing loss and cochlear implants, with their speech. Everyday I look at her example of courage to move across the country to a place that was unfamiliar just because she had a passion for helping this population of children. She has taught me that amidst all the crazy things that happen in the world there are inherently good people that care about others and are willing to do things that aren't at all easy to help them.

- There is this other girl who is also far from home. You cannot believe the kind of energy this girl has. She runs from class to clinic to class to clinic to a supervisor meeting to another supervisor meeting to studying for a test, and still finds time to train for an ironman. I marvel at her example of energy. I also love that grad school does not stop her from doing the things she wants to like marathons, bike races, cross country skiing and an iron man. She has taught me to never lose sight of the things you want most in your life (like doing fun races, being with your pets or enjoying time with your significant other) even when life is extremely busy already.

- There is this other girl who I have just started to talk to a little more and watch as we have begun classes this semester. She is a very quiet girl but has a personality that makes people just want to associate with her. Once you get to know her you realize three things: you are definitely not as smart as her, she has a hilarious sense of humor, and she is happy. I have never had a run in with this girl where I don't come out feeling like I think she is the most intelligent, positive person I have ever met. She has taught me through all things to be happy and also that it is okay to be quiet and to let others come to know you as they go. There is beauty in her simple but hilarious personality.

- There is this other girl who I met this summer. She and I have very different personalities but we get along great. She has helped me realize more fully who I am by letting me know who she is. I admire her for consistently being her. She doesn't allow others to mold and shape her feelings. She seeks answers for herself. She is very true to herself. She also calms me down when I'm freaking out about clients and such. She also looks up syndromes that I don't know on her iPhone so I can be reassured that I can handle this client. She has taught me the value in seeking truth for yourself, forming your own opinions and MOSTLY being who you want to be.

- Lastly, I want to describe two students that I look at as THE model mothers. They are both mothers and both finishing their masters degree. I hate to clump them together because their personalities are so different but I do want to recognize that they have shown me the care you can have for another human being. I have watched as these two maneuver their everyday happenings with their home life and how hard it probably is. The sacrifice they are making being away from their home and kids to come to school will eventually be life altering for their children. Their children will someday look at their mothers and realize "Wow, my mom went to school and still made time for me." "My mother cared about me enough to show me how important my education was that she was willing to do anything to get hers." They have taught me that it is most important to not just say but show those you love that you love them.

I could go on and on about people I have learned from through this experience I am having but I wont. I just want to say thank you to my "grad school family". You all have really touched me and helped me figure out who I want to be as a professional, student, friend, mother, wife and person in general. I've always believed that people are part of your life for a reason and I still do. Thanks for making my life more endurable and letting me learn from all of you.

1- JD got his mission call. The night we opened the call we watched my cousin Shane's football game at West Side. He is REALLY good! We had fun visiting and watching Shane be a true leader of the Husky Football Team. The outcome of the game wasn't great. Sorry West Siders, I was routing for my cousin. After the game, we found my cousin and although he didn't have the outcome he wanted he was so gracious and kind to everyone that was there to see him play. I hope my kids will never be hot headed jocks that can't take a loss. I hope they are like Shane and are gracious and kind and good leaders. I'm glad they have his example.

2- So back to the mission call, we had a million people there to see him open it. Some of my mom's sisters and cousins were there and some of the Mumford Family was there. We Facetimed my Aunt Kristi and Aunt Kathy. Everyone was anticipating the news of where JD would be headed to serve the Lord for the next 2 years. Before JD opened the call he told us he was trying to think of something he could say all day to all of us there. He then went on to tell us that he had been reading President Monson's Biography. He told us a story of President Monson talking to another about the effect others have on him. He said that every time he meets someone new they affect his life and they are with him from then on. He said that where he goes, they go and where he serves others serve. JD then thanked everyone for how much they have done and what they have been to him and then he said, "So where I serve, you serve." We were all tearing up and it was a very tender, beautiful moment. (Those moments are what life is about, it is amazing to see an 18 year old boy have such a strong conviction for others and for something greater than him). He then opened his call to Seattle, Washington. He reports to the MTC January 30th. I'm so glad my kids have so many good examples (including JD's now) of mission service and strong testimonies.

3- I finished my Mid Term tests today! I'm on the last leg of my 2nd semester of grad school. It is hard but it is going to be worth it someday. Plan for tomorrow.... SLEEP!

4- Clark is awesome and we went to Hotel Transylvania last weekend SOOOO CUTE! Go to it!

5- TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF NOVEMBER! START THE FESTIVITIES! I have written my christmas list of presents to get others and I'm going to start shopping soon. I love love love this time of year and mostly I love that I will get a three week break with Clark, family and friends from school! YAY!

6- That's all the good news. Have a nice night.

My Aunt Patti. So in list form... I will attempt to do the great person she is justice. Here are some things I love about her.

1- She is not afraid to be herself. Even if it is different than the rest of the family. She is a Ute among Cougars. Grandpa would roll over in his grave if he knew we had a Ute fan in the family. She still is one though!

2- She is an amazing teacher. How do I know this? My grandma said she observed her in a training for Math Teachers. She said she was great at teaching. She has a natural gift. Think of all the lives she is affecting and has affected.

3- She has a very tender heart. She is sad when others are sad. She expresses very tender feelings towards her nieces and nephews and parents on her blog. When I need someone to talk to, she sympathizes with me. She makes me feel important.

4- She is ALWAYS willing to drop everything to save you. I needed saved this summer. I had left my wallet in her car, gotten really sick, locked myself out of my house, needed groceries (you get the picture). She dropped everything she was doing at her house in Grantsville, drove up to Logan, gave me my wallet, took me grocery shopping, bought my groceries, then took me to dinner. She is the best!

5- She is adventurous. When every grandchild graduates high school my Aunt Patti takes them on a trip. If you knew my cousins and I this would be an adventure in and of itself. She has been on MANY trips but now she has added: California, New York and Washington D.C. with my cousins and my Senior Trips. She has MANY MANY more to go.

6- She is friendly and kind. She makes perfect strangers feel comfortable around her. I have noted this when she has gone to my brothers sporting events and made friends with everyone around her. She gets this from my Gran.

7- She has a strong testimony. This is most important. I know my Aunt Patti has a testimony of Jesus Christ and the gospel by her actions. Everyday she strives to be better and everyday she is. She fulfills her callings and is good at them. She has a very sweet testimony and belief. I look to her for example daily.

I love you Aunt Patti.

List of Happy...

This post will be in list form again. Geez, I love lists. Today I was feeling a little blue and I remembered an impression I got from listening to President Monson's talk on Sunday, "Write your blessings down." I have many things that make me happy but I'll list a few that have made me the happiest lately.

1. On my birthday, Clark bought me a ukulele. I named it Izzy after Iz (the BIG Hawaiian that sings Over the Rainbow so beautifully). I don't remember ever feeling so happy over a gift in my life. Before receiving my ukulele, Clark gave me a guitar/ukulele book of Iz' songs. I immediately started crying, because I knew what I was going to get next. I don't think anyone watching me understood how badly I wanted a uke. I wasn't crying about the uke though. I was crying about how Clark had planned this months before and he knew my exact thought of what I wanted. He is perfect. Not just for giving me the perfect gift but for knowing me and knowing what makes me happy. He makes me happy. I'm so glad I have him.

2. This past Sunday I got to go home and watch General Conference with my family. General Conference is a biannual meeting that the LDS church has every year, where we receive counsel from leaders of our church. I love the spirit of the meeting while I listen to the speakers. But there was something I love more than that. I love being at my parents in the fall. My dad and mom's house is so inviting and warm. I cuddled with my little brother while we watched and I took a nap by him between sessions. There are 3 things I love about this scenario I just decribed: I love naps, I love my brother and I love my house. I was in absolute heaven. I imagine that is what heaven is going to be like. Me with my family and my husband, taking naps, watching conference, joking, loving, laughing and eating cheese and crackers.

3. My sister Addie's drawings. WOW is she amazing. She is one of the most talented people I know. I wish I could figure out how to post pictures on this dang blog (I know I'm could, I'm just too impatient to do it) so I could show you just how amazing she is. I also love watching her play volleyball and I was able to do this on Saturday. It was so much fun!

4. My brother's desire to serve a mission. This makes me happy. He is so smart, funny and kind but more importantly he has strong convictions, at such a young age, for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I hope that my kids look at his example, among many other examples in my family, of devotion to their Savior.

5. Talks with my mom and dad. This weekend I was able to go to my cousin's State Distinguished Young Woman Competition. She did awesome by the way (won a talent, self expression and got in the Top 10). I was also able to drive up with my dad and have a nice chat with him and gab with my mama while I was up there too. I love their advice and how they make me feel safe and happy. They will always be people I look up to and want to chat with no matter how old and wise I think I am.

6. Cupcakes from Temptation Cupcakes. I had a vanilla one the other day. DIVINE!

7. Family Home Evening. Last night it consisted of: reading scriptures, watching Remember the Titans and falling asleep to it. I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT.

8. Fall in Logan. It is beautiful here. I love where I live.

9. Anticipation of Fall Break. USU has a day off next week. Yep... one day, and you better believe I'm going to live it up. Provo and NSL here I come!

10. This Quote: "It is not happy people who are thankful. It is thankful people who are happy." On that note, I'm very thankful for this life I'm living (most days). I hope I never take it for granted.

"May the odds be ever in your favor." Night.

Oh Hello Stranger...

Blog you are a stranger to me. I decided to sit and write on you for the minutes I have amidst studying, clinic, class, church and Clark. I want you to know I love my life and I'm very thankful for it. I have had so many growing experiences this summer that have helped me define who I am. So now because I like lists and we haven't caught up for a while... I'm going to list a few things that I have learned the past few months of Summer. I learned...

1- I have a love/hate relationship with being alone.
I love to have me time but I hate when Clark is gone. Clark was gone most the summer. I learned that I can sleep alone in an apartment with the windows open. I learned I can be brave and figure things out by myself. I learned I can fix things. I learned I am a lot stronger than I thought I was. However, I also learned that I could never ever live without Clark. Sounds mushy? Deal. With. It. I love him and that's all there is to it. I learned I have grown more fond of him since the day we got married and continue to do so.

2- Utah IS NOT in a Bubble.
I have heard from many people who come from outside of Utah that Utah is in a bubble. This means we blindly believe in the LDS religion. We choose the republican party because our parents do. We don't care about other religions etc. etc. Well guess what... Utah IS NOT in a bubble. I'm not from Utah. I'm LDS. I'm not a democrat or a republican. I am aware of the world but choose not to be bogged down by it. I have a testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that I found on my own with help from my parents. I love my religion and I respect others who aren't of my faith. I, however, will always stand up for my religion when it is misinterpreted. I will always defend it. I will always try to help others come to know it. It's who I am and I am not in a bubble.

3- Graduate School is Hard.
Enough said. I admire anyone who gets through it and maintains a positive attitude and succeeds. I'm working at the positive attitude currently. I do love what I am doing though so that makes it all worth it.

4- This Quote.
"Don't let Anyone ever Dull your Sparkle." I won't thank you very much.

And on that note... Good night. "May the odds be ever in your favor."

Besides a Degree, I've Learned...

I have been in school for 15 years of my 20 year life excluding summers. That is 75 % of my life. That is a long time and yet I'm going to go for 2 more years! Yes, I'm crazy. The other day I wondered why school has to be such a big part of our lives and then it hit me. Besides reading, writing and arithmetic, I have learned so many life lessons that I never would have had I not been in school.

Here are a few of them...

1- People will always perceive you how they want to, until you show them differently.

In other words, no one can really know who you are or what you are all about until you show them. People can make judgements of you easily but it is up to you to prove that you are who you want them to see you as. I'm not saying care what other people think. I'm saying care what you want to be perceived as. You can take on the identity of anyone you want to be but stay true to your standards and values and just be YOU! If you prove to people who you are and they still don't like you. Forget about them. Other people will accept you and you will suddenly find yourself surrounded by people a lot like you who love you for you.

2- The most pleasant surprises come at the most unexpected times.

Clark Saville is the perfect example of this. I had just come back from Christmas break my freshman year, a single woman ready to date a million college guys. I found lots of guys to date when I came back and then this tall, handsome stranger took some interest in me. He was the best surprise at the MOST UNEXPECTED time. I will always love him for how he stepped into my life when I needed him most.

3- Trials really do make you stronger.

I took Andy Anderson's Anatomy class my freshman year Spring semester and it was the most difficult class I've ever, ever had to experience.Andy Anderson is notorious for his tricky questions and thorough testing. He is a great lecture to listen to but he toasts you with his tests. That same semester my pleasant surprise arrived at my doorstep, my roommates decided they didn't really like me too much and my grandpa passed away. I still look back at that semester and know even though it was awful at the time, there was so much beauty in it. I found out how strong I was. I found the love of my life and I gained the strongest testimony I've ever had that families can be together forever. I don't know how I got through it. I would never choose to relive it, but I'm glad I did live it. Oh and I got a C+ in Anatomy if you were wondering. (I'm still trying not to care about that detail.)

4- Take advantage of family time.

Lots of college students, even those that live close to home, choose to never go home. They say, "My life is way too busy. I have to study and work and I need to socialize." Those things are all true that they say but they say these things and then they NEVER see their family. I took advantage of going to many ball games, dance recitals, plays, Jr Misses, dress shopping, award ceremonies, Christmas programs etc. I will never ever regret that point I missed on a test because I didn't get every single minute of studying I needed to in, or that money I didn't get from the work shift I gave away, or that sleep I desperately needed the night before the big test. I cherished the time I got to be with my family. I was able to have the college experience and see members in my family succeed and accomplish great things. If I had to do that part again, I would do it exactly the same.

5- The Savior is my biggest advocate, my best friend and my constant companion.

I know that through my schooling I could not have done it if I didn't have the knowledge that my Savior lives and loves me. I know that He was watching over me through all the experiences I had. He wept with me when I couldn't handle everything. He gave me peace when I asked for it and when I didn't ask for it. He forgave me when I made mistakes. He rejoiced with me when I succeeded. He gave me family members and a spouse who love me and take care of me. He gave me health and confidence to perform to the best of my abilities. He listened to and answered many prayers. He strengthened me when I was weak. He helped me move mountains I thought were immovable. He helped me realize my potential and continually helps me realize how to be better and do better. I accredit Him for my accomplishments. I believe He can be all He was for me to anyone else who seeks Him.

These are 5 of the most important life lessons that I learned and I'm so grateful I did.

Just school, work and study... We are gearing up for finals next week. We both have four finals. It is going to be one busy week but when it is over we are going to PARTY!!! I don't know if I have mentioned this, but I'll mention it again! Clark surprised me with a graduation trip to Cascade, Idaho. We are staying in a B&B and taking our bikes. It will be so so so relaxing.

Today I have clinic. Friday is my last session and it is a little bittersweet because I really am going to miss my client, but I'm ready to be done with this semester.

Today I also have Oceanography. Friady is my last day of that class and it is not bitter at all just very SWEET. I have despised learning about waves, sand, beaches etc. It just makes you depressed to study Oceanography. Why?
#1- You have to study something you are not interested in.
#2- You wish you were at the ocean instead of in a class about oceans.

Today I also get to go to a COMD awards ceremony where I'm getting awarded for my scholarship I got for grad school. My parents and Clark are coming and then my mom, Addie and I are headed to Rexburg for the evening to watch Delaney try on WEDDING DRESSES!!!! I'm so excited! This is my life right now and I love it.

Likes and Dislikes...

I'll start with the dislikes first because it's always good to end positive.

- I greatly dislike that the fan in my bathroom does absolutely nothing to help the steam reduce after taking a shower. This unhelpful fan causes the smoke alarms to go off almost every single day and is that pleasant? Not at all. How would you like getting out of the shower vigorously, jumping into your robe and fanning the smoke alarm until it turns off while you stand there dripping and cold? You wouldn't like it at all.

- I dislike fake eyelashes. Sorry if I'm offending anyone but I have 3 reasons why I detest them:
#1. They are fake. I don't like fake anything. I like seeing people how should be, as themselves. Adding 5 inch eyelashes to your face is really unnatural and not YOU at all.

#2- They make girls with real natural big beautiful lashes look like they are fake. Come on let's let those girls have their unique not-fake beautiful eyelashes!

#3- They make girls with short beautiful eyelashes (like me) feel like their short beautiful eyelashes are ugly. Well, guess what... I'd rather have my eyelashes than have to glue some on.

- I dislike group projects. I don't think I need to explain this one but really, even if I enjoy my group immensely it is the HARDEST thing to schedule 5 different lives to work on one thing at the same time.

- I dislike the weekend ending.

Now for the Likes...

- I like Clark. He is the perfect husband.

- I like when my family comes and we go to Olive Garden for dinner and hang out the rest of the night in my small apartment. I also like when I get to go watch JD perform in promenade and when my Mom, Addie and I all dance with J at the same time and he wants to do a triple dip. Triple dips are really awkward/funny.

-I like church and the spirit I feel when I go. We learned about immortality in Relief Society yesterday and it made me want to live better. I have come to the understanding that no matter what lesson I have in church, it usually results in me wanting to improve. I think this is a very good thing.

- I like Oreos.

- I like the beautiful trees in Logan. They emit this wonderful smell and it is making this campus one of the best places to be during Dead week.

- I like Dead week. It gives me time to prepare for Finals.

- I like that on Wednesday I get to see my parents at the COMD awards ceremony and that I get to go wedding dress shopping after with my cousin Delaney.

- I like Monday Morning runs!

- I like this song... This little girl is amazing. Price Tag

Have a Happy Monday!

We had fun making treats and buying gifts. We had a purple and zebra theme so we made lime ricki's, grape popcorn, oreo truffles, hostess snacks and birthday cake popcorn. We played games and learned a lot more about Jess and her fiance Trevor. They are absolutely darling together and she is so incandescently happy. I love weddings.

Yesterday, I texted my little bro JD to come do a fire with us in the canyon and bring a date. He agreed instantly and I was so ecstatic. Clark and I never have anyone to do things with. (This is partly because we're anti-social) Anyway, JD brought Laken and we all went up the canyon and had dinner, played marbles and played would you rather "roommate style" because both Laken and J are going to college in a few months. I think my best would you rather question was... "Would you rather have a roommate who had nasty back hair and slept with his shirt off and it got in the shower drain or would you rather have a roommate who had a nasty wart on his nose?" Both of them replied the nasty back hair because they wouldn't have to look at it all the time. HILARIOUS. Clark and I had a blast with those two! We love when people come to Logan to see us.

Today, we slept in. Now, Clark is working and I'm doing laundry and homework. Tonight we are going to watch JD's promenade and have dinner with my mom, dad, Addie and Brigham. We CANNOT wait! Weekends are the best. Oh! And I graduate in exactly 2 weeks from today!!!!!

The Joys of being an SLP

As many know I'm training and getting an education to become a Speech Language Pathologist. Currently, I help a little boy in clinic. He is awesome. He has improved SO MUCH from the beginning of the semester and pretty much has remediated the problems he had with his articulation.

Today we had a session. We were playing a game, saying some words and just talking. I told him my little sis would draw a cheetah for him and then he said, "Well, how are you going to get it. Do you even know where her house is?"
I reply, "Of course I do. I used to live there."
"Wait! Are you the mom or the sister?"
"I'm my sister Addie's sister."
"Are you the biggest in your family, cuz you're pretty big."
"(snickering) Yes I'm the biggest kid in my family but I have a mom and a dad that are bigger than me."
"Oh... but are you the mom"
"No I'm married but I'm not a mom yet. I don't have any kids. Now let's get back to work. K?"
I thought this was so funny. He cannot grasp the concept that I have a family and I'm not a mom yet but I am a sister and a wife. He is darling.

Then another funny thing happened today in the session. My client says, "Hey. Do you know where I live?"
I reply, "I don't but that'd be fun if I did, we could hang out and play soccer huh?"
(PS he loves soccer)
He says, "Ya, that would be fun but you would lose."
"Why would I lose?"
"Because you can't play soccer in high heels."
"Well, I have tennis shoes. I would play soccer in my tennis shoes."
In an accusatory voice he replies, "You don't have tennis shoes! All you have is high heels."
(I usually wear heels to clinic because we have to be in business attire.)
I reply, "I have tennis shoes, they're even pink!"
"Well if you do, you should wear them tomorrow."
"Maybe I will." (I really am thinking I will wear them tomorrow.)

I was dying laughing at this point. This little guy just sees me as the speech teacher. The girl that goes in there and just tells him how to say his /s/'s correctly. I don't have a family or pink tennis shoes.

Sometimes...

- Sometimes you wish the days were minutes because if they were... you'd only have 18 minutes until graduation.

- Sometimes you wish you had a personal chef that created planned meals for you that kept you full all day long because the granola bar and orange you had this morning aren't holding you over until the 5:00 dinner you have planned to go to.

- Sometimes you leave your cell phone at home and have a bad case of phantom cell phone all day. You reach for it and it's not there. You wish someone would text you so you're not so bored but wait! You don't have your cell phone.

- Sometimes you just need two big homemade Oreos and a giant glass of milk.

- Sometimes you realize in June you will be in class from 8:00-5:00 Monday through Thursday and you kind of have to mourn the death of your summer yet celebrate the fact you're even in graduate school.

I was crossing my fingers, praying that Hannah would win Jr. Miss. I had been texting my brother to tell me about the awards and if she won. All of the sudden, I receive a text saying SHE WON!!!!!!!!! SHE WON!!!!!!!!!!!. I proceed to call my brother and I get an answering machine saying, "hello? hello? if you haven't figured out by now this is my voice mail leave me a message!" The voice on the other end was not my brothers. It was my niece's. My devious husband had changed my niece's name in my phone to my brother's. I got my hopes up for nothing. I then proceeded to be mad at him for 10ish minutes and I then receive another text saying Hannah won! I turn to Clark and say calmly, "Really? She did! This isn't funny anymore!" He replies, "She really did Brynne! Aren't you so happy!?" It took me a while to really get excited but then I called my brother's real number and confirmed it and now I'm more excited than ever. My cousin (McKayla) and one of our great family friends (Hannah) are both going to State Jr. Miss. This gives two really good reasons to skip school in October and go!

PS... Here's a little bragging sidenote. My mom was Laken's (the recent Jr Miss) hostess and she was Hannah's (the new Jr. Miss). Saturday night, two Preston parents asked her to be their daughter's hostess too. Lance Hemsley (Laken's Dad) came up to her and said, "I'll be your agent, we can go big!" She is very modest and says to everyone, "It's not me! It's 17 years of parenting that create these talented and confident girls!" I think she is right about that but I also think she knows how to polish and fix the little details perfectly. She is one great lady that sacrifices a lot of time to help others. I hope I can be as wonderful and talented as she is someday.

The Sunday Blues

When I was growing up in the Cook house on most given Sunday evenings you could hear my mom say... "I have the Sunday Blues." What are these you ask? They are a disease, a curse, a blessing, a longing, etc. etc. My mom passed these blues to me. These are the blues you get when the excitement of Friday night is over, the catching up on everything on Saturday is finished and when Church is done for the day, dinner has been cleaned up, the muddy buddies have been eaten and you're finishing your movie with your family and getting ready to go to bed. These are the blues you get when you realize Monday is coming faster than you know and you will have to leave your comfy home and fun family and venture out to school again. I had a bad case of these blues last night.

Friday night, Clark and I drove to watch Hannah in Jr. Miss Dress Rehearsal and she was beautiful. Her talent was so good, she walked and talked perfectly and above all we knew she was a great girl with a positive/sweet personality and a strong testimony. We wanted her to win! After Dress Rehearsal, we went to my parents house and chatted and watched a Psych episode until 1 AM! Poor Clark drove us home and let me sleep most of the way. I love how he takes care of me.

Saturday morning, Clark had to work. I selpt in. We went to breakfast with Brooke. Then we drove to NSL where I met Claudia, Jayleen, Aspen and Brielle and we went to a shower for our cousin-in-law Katie. The theme was popcorn with the saying "she popped!" She had the baby earlier than expected, hence the "she popped" and not "she's going to pop!". It was darling and the baby was so tiny and sweet with beautiful olive skin. Meanwhile, Clark was rock climbing with his big bro Dave. We met back at the Evans residence to celebrate Dave and Aspen's birthday's with Mandrin food. It was so delicious. Then we stayed up chatting and laughing a lot.

Sunday, we went to church, ate, napped and drove home. When Clark and I got home we unpacked and watched a show and that's when the Sunday blues hit hard. I started crying. I know... I'm pathetic. I know it's cliche but I sincerely don't like Monday's. They are really hard for me to get through. The thought of going to work, school, doing homework and taking care of the details of my life just bombards my thoughts and I stress out a little.

I have found a good cure though: a good night's sleep + a run on Monday morning + saying over and over, "Friday is in 4 more days." These things can get you through any Manic Monday.
