They’re about adventure and escapism. They’re about self-discovery. They’re about being minorities. They’re about the celebration of being gay and embracing who they are with pride. They’re about you!

A week doesn’t go by where we don’t have a conversation about Piracy* at least once. We can tell you it’s always heated and puts us into a bad mood for at least a few hours. You see, it’s never fun to be informed, or find that your hard work is being posted in it’s entirety without any regard for the creators.

What we’re talking about are the folks who take pleasure in making troves of collected comics with the purpose of either getting credit when people download them from sites such as MegaUpload, or even worse, sites that actually charge people illegally for viewing our comics!

What’s painful to us is the lack of regard to the creators. Class Comics is the work of two real people, us, Patrick and Fraser, along with a handful of creators who entrust their masterpieces to us.

We don’t have hoards of employees slaving away to create comics while we ski in the Swiss Alps. Each comic is HUGE project from start to finish, regardless if it’s an in-house title, or one we’re publishing for another creator.

We would love to push a button and in a flash send all the Pirates to Hell and let Bob have his way with them. SOPA and PIPA “promise” to provide a way do that! Wah-hoo! But we stop cheering when we realize that these US BILLS are nothing more than elaborate censorship tools.

We were about to share our “Bigger Picture Campaign”meant to illustrate that Class Comics is so much more than the size of our character’s equipment. We’re a company about compelling erotic stories, dynamic art and characters you can fall in love with. But on the eve of these bills, we felt it necessary to release our campaign images, heavily censored in protest of SOPA and PIPA, in order to illustrate the potential dangers these acts represent.

Sure it’s aimed at a group that we loathe, but what happens when the target moves from Pirates to the next perceived evil? It’s a slippery slope that could line up any group next. As creators of erotic art, we are already objectionable to the right wing, and could easily become a target. Every erotic artist or anyone in the adult entertainment industry runs this risk.

Please find out more about the FIGHT against SOPA and PIPA. While it’s a US act, its reach is global as other countries will undoubtedly follow. There will also be other acts to follow with similar underlying ideals just hidden below the surface.

*And don’t get us wrong, we REALLY APPRECIATE every reader who is proud to publicly decree themselves as a fan of class comics. You guys ROCK! When someone likes our comics enough talk about them online, to post a few of their favorite panels, show off the covers, or some of the pages we provide for free on our site, or to draw their interpretation of our characters, it makes our day! You are NOT pirates! Those who illegally redistribute, sell and download our books are. There’s a BIG difference.
