From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy with a drillhole, in a rare original picture sleeve. Yes, I know this is on a Motown label, but it's still in the sweet Philly style :-) The flip, incidentally, is even better than the A side and is closer to the Motown sound (have a listen to the mp3 snippet in our "jukebox"). "Fading Away" was first recorded in 1966 by The Temptations and was pressed as the B side of their classic hit "Get Ready." Note: Aside from the drillhole, this beautiful 45 record is pristine Mint. This is a new, unplayed promo copy, in its original Island Records factory sleeve. There were so many really, really great funk grooves laid down in the early 1980s! Where did they come from, and where have they gone? This one was from the amazing, rarely heard followup to Jones' hit "Pull Up To The Bumper," and really socks it to ya. It's another rare example of a woman basically telling her man to take a hike, and tough if he don't like it. :-) This promo has the "Short" edit of the 5:55 album track on one side (which is what appears on retail copies) and a somewhat longer "Long" edit unique to the promo on the other. Note: This 45 record has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio). By the way, the audio is awesome... taking full advantage of the 45's ability to store so much more waveform information because of its faster spin and smaller diameter. This is the limited-edition, first release that includes a full poster sleeve. This song was their second U.K. single, which went top 10 there. In the U.S., it was released after the less-but-still-wonderful "In A Big Country." An interesting factoid here is the magnificent B side, which was one of the two songs the group demoed originally for Virgin Records in 1981. It was never released on vinyl, except for this release, but it remains one of the the favorites of Big Country fans. The song was also left off the group's debut LP, "The Crossing," not appearing on an album in the U.S. until the DVD of "Crossing" came out in 1990. And here's yet one more bit of trivia: In the beginning, the group actually called itself "Angle Park!" Dave Marsh was right to give this great Madonna hit such a high ranking in his list of the 1001 greatest singles ever made... it's a perfect Pop confection and a gorgeous blend of 1980's dance rock and 1960's girl group rock. This is the limited-edition pressing on clear blue vinyl. The picture sleeve is also distinguished from the black-vinyl retail copies by having "Limited Edition Blue Vinyl Pressing" printed on the left-hand side of the front cover. The B side is a non-album cut. Note: This beautiful 45 record has some use wear on the vinyl, but the labels are Mint, and so is the audio! It's clear that Diana Ross' spoken interlude in this underrated Supremes single was one of Michael Jackson's greatest vocal inspirations. His little hiccup surely started from late-night air-guitar sessions when Michael would sing along with Diana on this one. :-) The B side is another fine H-D-H tune. This single is also remarkable for the manic mastery of James Jamerson's bass playing. Right from the get-go, his bass starts running away behind the scenes and just doesn't stop for breath! Of course, it's much easier to hear and appreciate that instrument when the audio is as clear and the mix as perfect as on this original 45. (Note: Jamerson was inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.) Collector Nerd Alert: The track time on the 45 shows 2:35, but my recording of the song is 2:45, about the same as the LP cut's 2:47. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Motown Records factory sleeve. The record has Mint audio and labels!

From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy, in its original Casablanca factory sleeve. Listening to this, it's easy to see how Summer became the queen of the disco/tech in the late 1970s, helped enormously by great material and by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte's distinctive techno arrangements. The mp3 snippet is an edit from the middle of the track, trying to capture in 2 minutes or less the essence of the music; it's a compromise, though. If you don't have the full 5:53 music, be sure to get it! This is the second pressing, which shows "Side A" for "I Feel Love;" the single was originally released plugging "Can't We Just..." and showing "I Feel Love" as "Side B." The B side is edited from a 4:25 album track. Note: This copy has light storage wear that lowers the Label grade to Near Mint. The wax and audio are pristine.

Finally! Here's a beautiful copy of the original release of this amazing love song, in its first incarnation by the song's writer, the great Dolly Parton. This first release was her followup to "Jolene" and came from the same album. This is only the second time I've had the original in the store, and I believe this is the best version of "I Will Always Love You" you can find! Parton topped the charts again in 1982 with a new version of the song, and of course Whitney Houston showed the good taste to record the song in 1992, thereby finally bringing its charms to the pop and soul masses. Inspired by this revival, Dolly teamed up with Vince Gill to record the tune again in 1995! Note: This copy comes in a vintage RCA Records factory sleeve. It has Mint labels and untouched-looking vinyl. The audio plays very close to Mint with almost no surface noise.

Most people born after 1980 assume that Nirvana wrote the classic "Man Who Sold The World," and they certainly did record an impressive version of it. In fact, the song fit so well with the grunge sound and modern rock in general that the mistake of youth is understandable. However, you've got to hear the original version by the song's author to appreciate it fully. Note that this release has the 5:05 version of "Space Oddity," which became Bowie's first top 40 hit in the U.S. This is a beautiful copy of both the vinyl record and its original picture sleeve.
