Windshield Replacement Pertaining To Classic Cars And Luxury ...

From my own experience, wanting a windshield deputy carried out on a sports automobile or other high-end automobile does infrequently cost the owners way more than it would if they had been pushing a Chevy Tahoe or maybe Ford F-150. And so you have got to inquire yourself... Aren't all windshields constructed the really same way and isn't the windshield deputy procession carried out the same on all vehicles? Well, they are all combined with the use of rarely dense sand but that's presumably not the reply you're seeking for. Most oppulance cars retain windshields that lend towards to be thicker in make up and moreover have an acoustic middle covering to help cut down on extraneous sounds combined by things such as rain, wind, lane sound together with the motor. Vehicles such as a oppulance Mercedes or maybe Rolls royce normally have the built-in acoustic middle covering to not only cut down on outward sound but to in addition help speed up the vehicles sound high quality whilst listening to the stereo. This specific covering helps accurately route audio via the automobile newcomer area formulating an unsurpassed listening experience.

Okay, right away you agree to getting a total windshield deputy completed on your oppulance automobile will cost you more than it would on the more conventional autos such as Chevy, Ford or Dodge it is time to figure out methods to obtain the most appropriate windshield deputy value. There are lots of vehicle potion emporium internet sites that give you the power to make off with a rapid no-obligation cost guess by merely entering your automobile facts. There are even sites by national corporations that will capacitate you to obviously come in your zip ethics and report a windshield deputy online . There are a few of these national vehicle potion web sites that may even lapse assorted estimates from 3 or more windshield deputy shops permitting you to choose the unambiguous most appropriate cost for a windshield deputy on your high finish vehicle or sports car.

If you are not intending to deposit a considerable amount of money having a windshield deputy carried out on your classic automobile or oppulance vehicle then the really most appropriate way to save money is by having any small damage to your front windshield remade as shortly as you can. Don't check too long since variations in heat and bumps in the lane can result in damage in a windshield to expansion quickly. A windshield correct can take a small fragment or fissure in your windshield and keep it from swelling any further. we would suggest having a veteran windshield correct firm do the work if you're considering about a repair. I've had some not as big eccentric potion techs total windshield correct on my automobile and the fissure not only one after another swelling opposite my windshield but it moreover had a appalling earthy look after the correct was finished.

Getting a windshield correct over a windshield deputy can moreover help you keep the producer sign that was made when your vehicle was manufactured. This producer sign binds the windshield in place in the march of collisions and ensures that the airbag will perform properly. Windshield correct will even revive the constructional strength to your potion and upgrade clearness by at-least 80% or more in the shop-worn area. Keep in mind, be certain to use a pro windshield correct group or the clearness might spin out as bad as the windshield correct we had carried out on my automobile that at last finished in a total windshield replacement. Though the clearness is infrequently 80% or improved we wouldn't validate getting a windshield correct achieved on damage that is directly in your line of steer whilst seated in the drivers seat.

No one should have to expostulate around with a shop-worn windshield and not all windshields may be remade so have a competent vehicle potion dilettante check your windshield to establish either it may be remade or not before spending lots of money on a total windshield replacement. If you find out that you'll need a total windshield deputy then be certain to look for websites that offer a few cost comparisons from assorted companies in your neighborhood. This'll help cut back on the time you outlay anticipating a realistic vehicle potion emporium and help you choose the most appropriate probable windshield cost for your vehicle.

Classic Cars |

They paid for an Accord. But right away VW of Canada is selling a "Super Beetle" book of the Turbo Beetle.

The new Super Beetle uses the 2L TSI engine creation 210 HP and 207 lb-ft of torque, that does make it over 3 times as absolute as the 60 HP Super Beetle of the '70s. It moreover seems to have a somewhat lowered position and a garland of other something good to eat similar to competition seats, large wheels, Fender-branded audio system, and nice, ketchupy-red stop calipers.

I arrange of similar to saying the Super Beetle name brought back, given I've always felt the ultimate incarnation of the 'new' Beetle looks hazily Super Beetle-inspired, with its wide-eyed front and large, winding windshield.

S

And, for those of you wondering only what it was that done the initial Super Beetle so damn super, here's the deal: front suspension. The Super Beetle, starting with the 1302 model in 1971, transposed the typical Bug's torsion tubes up front with a more modern McPherson strut front postponement setup, essentially is to objective of stepping up the size of the trunk. And boy, did they. The Super's case was about twice the size of the aged one, and might be the only automobile in story to be called "Super" formed on case size.

As a nice aside, the handling became more "modern" with the McPherson setup, and many folks still ponder Supers a few of the best-handling Beetles, being really similar to 911/912s of the era.

In 1973, the Super Beetle really went all out and got a completely new winding windshield and a actual dashboard.

Why do we speak of Gamecube and Wii personification import games? Simply since the Nintendo Wii is moreover matching with every singular Gamecube Game, inclusive the FreeLoader disc. Because the Nintendo Wii can foot Gamecube Discs / games, you can moreover bucket the Freeloader and at last take value of all of the great Import games on the market. The Nintendo Wii Freeloader is a disc, that allows any Wii owners to fool around import Gamecube games without a mod chip. As you may have guessed, the Freeloader was not obviously made is to Nintendo Wii, but was instead a product that has been out for a few years (with assorted updates) is to Nintendo Gamecube. Since the Wii can fool around Gamecube games and is retrograde compatible, it will moreover bucket the FreeLoader on any Wii console permitting you to fool around any zone Gamecube diversion with ease.

Now, if this were only any type of disc, we wouldn't write a examination on it. And frequently times, when we talk about import games, people inquire me why we would wish to fool around games that are all in Japanese and can't be played anyway. Or inquire me what the large treat is with these games from Japan. The fact of the matter is, over 60% of Japanese import games may be played with no problem. I'm a large air blower or racing games and some of the BEST racing games for Gamecube have only been expelled in Japan. The same would go for initial person shooters. But more than that, some of the games are only so really unique, so good designed, that you must try them. You'll right away turn an import diversion air blower once you do.

Regardless of the genre of games you like. By being able to fool around import games, you're obviously expanding your program library, or at least the existing preference by thousands of extra games. Many of these games you won't listen to about at your local Blockbuster, or in magazine. But online examination sites similar to IGN.com or GameSpot.com have whole sections staunch to import games and import gaming, since there are a extensive amount of great games available.

This brings us back to the Freeloader. The Freeloader was created by Datel as a means to cut out the need for installing a mod fragment in your Gamecube console to have access, and the aptitude to fool around these games. Before the Freeloader, you would must be setup a Gamecube Mod Chip similar to the Xeno Gamecube or the Viper Gamecube fragment to fool around your import and privately corroborated up games. While the Freeloader won't let you fool around backup games, it will facilely enable you to fool around Import games from any zone on any Gamecube.

I wish to moreover say that this is NOT an essay to publicize the Freeloader as the next most appropriate thing since sliced The Legend Of Zelda is to Gamecube or Nintendo Wii. If you're not in to Japanese games, or import games in general, and have no fascination in them, then the Freeloader is not for you. It doesn't offer any extras or advantages for any Nintendo Wii or Gamecube owners who is cheerful to only fool around the gift of games existing in their own country. Its solitary role is to enable gamers similar to myself, and tens of thousands of others, to enable the personification of Import games. While we am stressing only Japanese games in this essay as they are my own personal favorite. European gamers can moreover fool around the ultimate games expelled only in the USA on their PAL Gamecube or Nintendo Wii systems as well. Gamecube import games are not only from Japan. If you're a air blower or Rally racing games, many of the most appropriate games in that genre are expelled in the UK and Europe.

Just how do you use the Gamecube Freeloader on the Nintendo Wii? First of all, regard of it as a Nintendo Wii Freeloader. Insert the front in to your Nintendo Wii only as you would your Gamecube, and then choose it from your Wii Dashboard. It'll bucket up, and you'll be greeted by the Freeloader principal menu, where you'll have a few selections. While it isn't installed with features that'll blow you away - that is precisely the reason it's so easy to use. we suspect there aren't really a slew of features you could fill up in to program that is expected to do only one thing - fool around import video games. We can appreciate the ease and ease of use due to the few options it has.

The Freeloader is easy to use, both on the Gamecube and the Nintendo Wii console. You simply put the front in the Gamecube or your Nintendo Wii, wait for for it to bucket and then collect the chart representing the zone you wish to play. You'll then have to expel the front from your Nintendo Wii, or open the Gamecube lid, and take out the Freeloader, put in the diversion you wish to fool around and it will only bucket for you. It couldn't obtain any simpler really.

In closing, the Freeloader is to Gamecube or Nintendo Wii is meant to do one thing, and one thing only. It does it with ease and work immaculately any and every time. It's not expected to do anything else. Comparing it to other program or increase ons for possibly the Gamecube or the Nintendo Wii would be pointless. If you wish to beginning getting the ultimate import games without having to wait for until the strike the local marketplace - if they ever do at all, then the Freeloader is the easiest and cheapest way to obtain you started.

Auto Industry | Forging Industry Faces Rapid Decline

Automotive Riview, autopurple.com

The mercantile retrogression has led to a unemployment in the universal vehicle sector, that has in spin crippled the Rs 10,000-crore Indian forging sector. The zone has incurred a loss of about Rs 500 crore given September 2008.

Due to the hurried drop in trade volumes and plummeting made at home sales growth, the zone has witnesseda loss of around 50,000 jobs in the past couple of months. Given the stream scenario, it is expected that the zone will declare an even aloft number of lay offs in the nearby future.

Effect on the SME segment

Small and mid-sized units, winning the sector, have been struggling to stay afloat. This is essentially due to a pointy reject in their business volumes, perpetuated by the dropping urge for vehicle components and industrial free parts.

Several units in the SME sector, clustered around the 3 vehicle hubs of Pune, Chennai and Ludhiana have reported a plunge in their topline expansion during the final two buliding of 2008-09.

SR Somavanshi, Secretary, Association of Indian Forging Industry (AIFI), says, "About 70% of the prolongation from the forging zone goes to the vehicle industry. However, subsequent to the urge unemployment for vehicle tools in the universal vehicle sector, tiny together with mid-sized forging firms have been exceedingly affected."

Many forging companies in India have close down, whilst others are slicing the outlay levels. "Presently, many of the forging units in the nation are working at 20% to 30% ability due to the apprehension of register pile-up. In addition, the unemployment in the automobile urge has serve disheartened vehicle part forging units, in particular, to spread their production," reveals Mr Somavanshi.

No comfort for forging industry

The supervision initiatives to upgrade the credit upsurge to the forging zone have valid unsound so far. As Barun Kumar Ghosh, Proprietor, Asiatic Steel Enterprises, mid-sized forging firm in Kolkata, says, "Though measures have been taken by the supervision to interpose liquidity in to the financial system, banks and financial institutions are demure to account tiny forging units due to the dour marketplace outlook. Even companies with great financial results have been struggling to secure supports from banks"

Bleak prospects

The awaiting is to forthcoming buliding does not look splendid as there is no denote of marketplace reconstruction compartment September 2009. With forecasts is to next couple of buliding seeking bleak, tiny and mid-sized forging will have to exercise larger anticipation until urge picks up.
Car Auction

Every day the government, banks and various organizations take possession of seized cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles and more. The volume of these seized properties are so high that a fast and constant way to empty their inventories is in place. To do this auctions are held nationwide that empty inventories at discounted prices. Vehicles with prices up to 90% under blue book value are auctioned off every day.

The good news is that every citizen has a right to these car auctions.
The bad news is that not everyone actually has access to these
auctions, or let alone knows where they are held. You are probably one
of those persons.
Auctions are not advertised on the radio, television or newspaper for
the general public to find and join. And for those who take advantage
of these auctions they are just fine with you not being a part of the
action.
The Solution:
This is where a Car Auction Inc membership will help you. Our
membership service allows you to join the action and find the vehicle
you want to own and pay way below the suggested cost of the car at an
auction. Just imagine finding the car of your dreams or even beyond
those dreams at a price well within your budget.

The army had laid out a demanding list of
requirements and of the 135 companies contacted only two showed any interest.
The American Bantam Car Company of Butler,
Pennsylvania and Willys-Overland,
but only Bantam met the deadline thanks to engineering skills and patriotism of
Karl Probst.

The news of Europe falling to the Germans, of Dunkirk and of little England
standing on its own, taking on the might of the Wehrmacht, U-boats and
Luftwaffe, motivated Probst to action even though he had originally thought it
couldn't be done. With only ten days left to design and build a vehicle to meet
the army's deadline, Probst raced to join the Bantam team.

By
lunchtime on Wednesday, June 22nd, Probst had arrived and began a marathon
session at the drafting table. Two days later on Friday, June 24th, 1940 Probst
had done what no one else, not even the big automotive companies were able to do. Not only had Probst
designed a vehicle to meet the army's rigid requirements, he had created a
vehicle that exceeded their expectations, a vehicle that would become
legendary, a vehicle that would soon be called Jeep.
Major Herbert Lawes, who had driven just about
every army vehicle in existence, was the first driver to test the Jeep. After
racing up a 60-degree slop in second gear with no problem, Major Lawes then set
about on a 15 minute thrashing over some of the toughest terrain in the area.
When he returned he stated, "I believe this unit will make history".

Over the next three weeks the Jeep was subjected to brutal testing. Some of the
exercises included driving off a platform 4 feet in the air at 30 mph and
repeatedly running full speed down logging trails with tree trunks set into the
ground at regular intervals After 20 days of punishment the frame side-members
cracked under the strain, but by then it was obvious to everyone that the Jeep
had proved itself well up to the job.

One sore spot with the army was the Jeep had come in over the weight limit
specified by the army guidelines. Although Bantam had written down 1273 lbs it
was actually around 600 lbs heavier then that. However, practicality prevailed
when a large cavalry officer managed to lift the rear end of the Jeep off the
ground unaided.

It seemed a wonderful success story for the struggling Bantam. They had
delivered the first Jeep prototype, which at that time was known as the Bantam
BRC. It was exceptional and exceeded expectation, but the army had concerns
that little Bantam could mass-produce the required number of Jeeps. Much to the
dismay of Bantam, the army provided Willys and Ford with copies of the BRC blueprints
and in short order both companies produce their own prototypes. In the end it
was a conglomeration of the Bantam BRC, the Willys Quad and Ford Pygmy that
came together to make the final production model Jeep.

1984-1996

Much in the same way that American automakers had downsized many of
their cars in the previous decade, Jeep downsized one of its nameplates,
the Cherokee, for 1984.
Prior to this year, the Cherokee moniker was attached to what
amounted to a sportier version of Jeep's Wagoneer. Mostly unchanged
since its debut in the early 1960s, the Wagoneer was a large,
truck-based, four-door wagon with four-wheel drive.
The former Cherokee, introduced as a 1974, shared most everything
with the Wagoneer, including dimensions and engine selections. The major
differences between the two were that the Cherokee was initially
available only as a two-door (with the same wheelbase and length as the
Wagoneer) and the Cherokee cost less than the more luxurious Wagoneer. A
four-door Cherokee joined the lineup in 1977.
The 1984 Cherokee shared nothing with its predecessor, save its name.
A shorter wheel- base (over 7 inches less than the "old" model, at
101.4 inches) and overall length (at 165.3 inches, a decrease of 21
inches) combined with a much lighter weight of around 3,100 pounds (over
1,000 pounds less than before) went a long way toward better fuel
mileage and easier maneuverability, on-road or off. Two-door and
four-door body styles were offered.
Styling for the trim Cherokee was chiseled and taut, with muscular
wheel well flares and a tall greenhouse that afforded good visibility
for driver and passengers alike. The interior continued this theme with a
likewise simple dash and control layout. Seating capacity was listed as
five, though it was tight for three adults to ride in the backseat.

Trim levels were comprised of the base Cherokee, more luxurious
Pioneer and the sporty Chief. The Pioneer featured carpeting, additional
instrument panel gauges, full center console and a rear window
wiper/washer. The Chief was the most stylin' of the trio with blackout
exterior trim, hood striping and white-lettered tires.
Motive force came in the form of either four- or six-cylinder power.
The 2.5-liter four banger inhaled its fuel and air through a one-barrel
carburetor and made 105 horsepower. The optional, 2.8-liter, two-barrel
V6 (which was actually supplied by Chevrolet) produced but 115 horses.
Although these powerplants were adequate, serious thrust for the
Cherokee was a still a few years away. There were three transmission
choices for the V6: a standard four-speed manual, optional five-speed
manual and optional three-speed automatic. The four-cylinder was limited
to the four-speed manual as its gearbox.
Considered by many as the leader in the four-wheel-drive (4WD)
vehicle segment, Jeep offered not one but two 4WD systems for the
Cherokee. "Command-Trac" was a part-time, shift-on-the-fly unit and the
"Selec-Trac" system allowed the option of full-time 4WD operation. A
"Quadra-Link" front suspension design (which featured a solid axle
suspended by coil springs and four links) contributed to the Cherokee's
quickly acquired reputation for off-road prowess.
The new Cherokee was well received by the motoring press and the
buying public alike, with nearly 78,000 Cherokees sold in its first
year.
1985 brought the Laredo trim level to the Cherokee
family. Standard on the Laredo were most of the features of the Pioneer
with upgrades such as plusher interior materials, pinstripes, alloy
wheels and chrome grille treatment.
Changes to the Cherokee in general included the addition of front
headrests and passenger assist handles (for easier ingress and egress as
well as something to hold on to when the driver went hog wild
off-road). Two-wheel-drive versions were now offered for those who
didn't need the capabilities of four-wheel drive. A few new options
debuted as well, such as keyless entry and a Renault-sourced,
four-cylinder, turbodiesel engine.
Two major hardware upgrades were hot topics for the Cherokee in 1986.
A redesigned and more powerful four-cylinder engine was now standard.
The replacement of the stone-age carburetor with fuel injection helped
the 2.5-liter mill pump out a respectable 117 horsepower, an increase of
12 horses over the previous motor. Smoother operation and easier
starting were other benefits of the more modern induction setup.
Geared toward serious off-road enthusiasts was a new "Off-Highway
Vehicle" package that included heavy-duty suspension components, bigger
(225/75/15) tires, skid plates, tow hooks, a 4:10 rear axle ratio (to
help in climbing up steep grades and slogging through mud) and higher
ground clearance.
Serious power became an option in 1987 when Jeep
dumped the 2.8 V6 and put a stout, 4.0-liter, inline six-cylinder engine
of Jeep's design on the option list. Kicking out 177 horsepower, the
new "Power-Tech Six" could catapult the Cherokee from rest to 60 mph in
around 9 seconds -- pretty quick, especially for an SUV. Another benefit
of the increased muscle was more towing capacity -- rated at 5,000
pounds. The 2.5-liter, four-cylinder was tweaked for an additional four
horsepower, for a total of 121 ponies.
A new, electronically controlled, four-speed automatic transmission
replaced the former three-cog unit. The new automatic also offered
selectable shift modes: Power (which provided better performance through
higher-rpm upshifts and quicker downshifts) and Comfort (which was more
relaxed and economical in operation). And the primitive, four-speed
manual was history, leaving the five-speed for shift-it-yourselfers.
Cosmetically, the Cherokee received the option of two-tone paint.
Inside the cabin were found new door trim panels with stowage bins.
A new, loaded-up Limited four-door model debuted halfway through the
model year. Just about every luxury, performance and convenience feature
was standard on the new top dog Cherokee. The Limited came with the
powerful, 4.0-liter inline six teamed with Selec-Trac and could be
identified by its color-keyed bumpers, gold wheels and gold pinstripes.
Leather seats, power everything, keyless entry and an eight-speaker
sound system were additional highlights of the Limited's lengthy
standard equipment list.
Other models received minor changes, such as new plaid seats in the Laredo and revised blackout trim on the Chief.
1988 saw the addition of a Limited two-door and the
subtraction of the unpopular turbodiesel engine option. Sharp-eyed
enthusiasts could discern an '88 by a new eight-slot grille that
replaced the former 10-slot unit.
Laredo models received new chrome trim as well as lower bodyside
cladding. In an effort to offer a Cherokee for everyone (and leave no
part of the potential market uncovered), a Sport two-door model was
offered. The Sport added alloy wheels and special graphics to the
plain-Jane Cherokee, allowing those on a budget to drive a sharp rig
without breaking the bank.
The availability (on models equipped with the 4.0-liter engine,
automatic transmission and Selec-Trac) of a four-wheel, antilock braking
system (ABS) was the big news for the 1989 Cherokee.
Jeep's ABS operated regardless of whether the Cherokee was in 2WD or 4WD
(unlike some competitors who offered either only rear-wheel ABS or
four-wheel ABS that wouldn't function when the vehicle was in 4WD).
Other functional upgrades for 1989 included two former options that
were made standard. Base models received power steering and all
Cherokees swapped their former 13.5-gallon fuel tank for a 20-gallon
unit.
Changes were few for Jeep's most popular model for 1990.
Safety was improved through the fitment of three-point seatbelts for
all outboard occupants. And a new overhead console on the Limited
featured a compass, outside thermometer and storage compartments for a
garage door control and sunglasses.
Power for both the four- and the six-cylinder engines was boosted for 1991.
A new, multi-point fuel-injection system helped the four-banger squeeze
out 130 horsepower ? an increase of nine horses over the 1990 model.
And the big six now cranked out 190 horsepower, bringing the zero to 60
mph time of the Cherokee down to under nine seconds.
Trim levels were shuffled about; the Pioneer was dropped, a new
Briarwood debuted, (identified by its fake woodgrain trim on the
bodysides) and a four-door Sport model joined the two-door Sport.
Making life easier for the owner of a '91 Cherokee were new
double-sided keys, highlighted underhood service points and an optional
illuminated entry system.
1992 saw carpeting added to the standard features of
the base Cherokee. And Laredo four-doors could now be fitted with
(optional) leather seating, just like the fancier Limited. Other than
this, not much else changed for the Cherokee this year.
The Cherokee line was simplified for 1993, as the
previous five trim levels gave way to just three; base, Sport and the
new Country. The Country featured champagne-colored lower body, fender
flares and bumpers as well as most of the luxury features of the defunct
Limited. And Sport models were updated with a two-tone treatment that
featured black on the lower body sides.
A long-life, stainless steel exhaust system was fitted to all models, helping to lower ownership costs.
Safety refinements were added for 1994. Side-impact
beams were now found in the doors, the roof was beefed up for more crush
resistance and a center, high-mounted stoplight sat atop the liftgate.
Air conditioning now used CFC-free refrigerant.
For those who didn't like the champagne (the color, not the libation)
of the year before, the Country was now available with silver as the
secondary color. And in an effort to make the base model sound more
appealing, the entry-level Cherokee now had the "SE" moniker added to
its name.
In spite of looking very much like the 1984 version, the Cherokee
continued to be popular among those looking for a manageable (both in
size and cost) and capable SUV. 1995 brought a few
notable changes, a driver's side airbag and the availability of an
automatic (albeit just a three-speed) transmission for the four-cylinder
SE. Sport and Country models continued with the 4.0-liter, six-cylinder
engine hooked up to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic
gearbox. A few new colors, such as Moss Green and Aqua Pearl, completed
the changes for this year.
Minor refinements continued for the Cherokee in 1996.
Both the four- and six-cylinder engines were tweaked to run smoother
and quieter. The inline six now produced its power at lower rpm, making
it more responsive whether accelerating from a light or towing a trailer
up a steep grade.
Safety and reliability were both enhanced this year. An automatic
transmission/brake pedal interlock reduced the chance of an accident by
requiring the driver to apply the brake when moving the gear selector
out of Park. The electrical system was upgraded via a heavy-duty
alternator and battery. And the engine received a stiffer block, new
aluminum pistons and a new powertrain control module.
In addition to the aforementioned improvements, some new colors, such
as Bright Jade and Stone White, helped extend the appeal of the
Cherokee, now in its 13th model year.

1997-2001

Fourteen years after it debuted, the Cherokee finally received a
facelift, well, actually quite a bit more than a facelift. The $215
million update occurred in 1997 when the front and rear ends were
smoothed out, the interior was updated and noise, vibration and
harshness (NVH) levels were reduced.
Although one had to look close to pick off a '97 versus an older
Cherokee, a more cohesive appearance was achieved via softened corners
at the nose and tail and with wheelwell flares that blended into the
bumper ends. The front vent windows were dropped for a cleaner look and
lessened wind noise, and larger side-view mirrors, new bodyside
moldings, new wheels, optional deep-tint glass and a center high-mounted
stop lamp completed the changes outside.
Inside, change was much more apparent, as the more modern cabin
featured several key improvements in ergonomics, safety and style. A new
dash (now with a passenger airbag), revised gauges and a new center
stack with easier to use controls for the stereo (now available with
both cassette and CD players) and climate control system sported a
cleaner design with fewer pieces, which decreased the likelihood of
squeaks and rattles. Other interior refinements included new door
panels, lighted power mirror and window switches, a trip computer for
the overhead console and a new center console that boasted integrated
cupholders.
In an effort to improve build quality, Jeep made changes to the plant
that made the body panels, using new or reconditioned stamping dies and
tighter tolerances. More testing, including all electrical functions
and increased use of robotic paint sprayers were employed, as well.
Having made extensive engine refinements in 1996, Jeep left well
enough alone, but did improve the electrical system via upgraded
connectors and a decreased amount of wiring.
For 1998 trim levels were juggled. The Limited
returned to replace the Country as the top-of-the-line Cherokee, and the
Classic debuted, slotted between the Sport and the Limited. The Classic
added color-keyed bumpers and moldings, a roof rack, air conditioning,
power mirrors and alloy wheels to the Sport. Three new colors, Chili
Pepper Red, Deep Amethyst and Emerald Green, joined the palette.
Soldiering on into 1999, the Cherokee line continued
with minor changes. The Sport model now had color-keyed bumpers and
grille, a Sentry Key anti-theft system debuted, heated front seats
became optional on the Limited, and engine efficiency was improved via
revised electronics and a new exhaust catalyst.
The 2000 Cherokee got a more refined version of the
4.0-liter inline six. Introduced the previous year in the Grand
Cherokee, the revamped engine ran quieter and cleaner (it now met Low
Emission Vehicle standards) than the previous iteration. A new
five-speed manual gearbox with improved shift quality was mated to the
new six in SE (if the six was ordered) and Sport models, and a
four-speed automatic was standard on Cherokee Classic and Limited.
The Limited traded its monochromatic appearance for a flashier
appearance this year. Chrome highlights on the grille, headlight bezels
and rear license plate brow along with silver alloy wheels served to
further distinguish the Limited from the other Cherokees.
Lastly, some new colors debuted, including Patriot Blue and Silverstone Pearls.
The last year for the Cherokee, 2001, would pass
without much fanfare. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine was finally
buried, child seat tether anchors debuted, and Steel Blue replaced
Desert Sand on the color chart.
Even Jeep isn't sure how its name came to be -- it's not even close to Willys-Overland, the original name of the company. Some think the term resulted from the slurring of the letters GP, the U.S. Army's abbreviation for General Purpose, referring to the Willys Quad that became the Army's standard vehicle. Others believe it was a nickname taken from Eugene the Jeep, a popular character from the Popeye cartoon strip.
No matter how and where it originated, the name Jeep stuck. Willys trademarked it after World War II ended, and moved forward to build civilian off-road utility vehicles.

This gallery focuses on civilian Jeep trucks, beginning with mid-1940s era models. Truck production ended years ago (with the Jeep Comanche in 1992), but recent Jeep concepts (the Gladiator and the JT) have made Jeep enthusiasts hopeful that the automaker is finally ready to build a new pickup.
When Hispano-Suiza was formed in 1904, they
soon found success producing trucks to meet a need in Spain, a poor
country at the time with mountains and inefficient railways. They did
produce cars as well, which soon built a strong reputation for their
reliability and performance. Most were sold to European heads of state
which established the brand in luxury circles. Their reputation
continued to grow as they enjoyed success in racing.

In 1919, at
the Paris Motor Show, Hispano-Suiza introduced the H6 powered by a
6.6-liter overhead cam aluminum six-cylinder engine offering 135
horsepower and a top speed of 85 mph. One of the more advanced features
found on the H6 were the power-assisted brakes, the first in the
industry, driven with a special shaft from the transmission. Upon
deceleration, the cars momentum drove the brake servo to provide
additional power. There were around 2,350 examples of the H6 produced
through 1933.

In 1922, Hispano-Suiza introduced the more powerful
H6B. This example features a Coupe deVille body built by the legendary
coachbuilder Saoutchik, and includes many fine French accessories.

It
was delivered on August 26th of 1924 to a Mr. de Magnin. Later owners
include a Mr. Behna, who sold it in 1962, reportedly complete and
original, to a Mr. Boutet. At the time, the reported mileage was 23,000
km. The next owner committed it to Wilkinson and Sons of Derby, England
for a sympathetic but complete restoration.

The car is painted in
gloss black with a passenger compartment that is finished in broad
stripes of black and claret. The interior woodwork is inlaid polished
mahogany with ivory door handles. There are lighted running boards for
the convenience of safety of its passengers.

The chauffeur's
compartment is done in black leather, with black wool leather-backed
carpets. Dashboard instrumentation includes a 120 mph speedometer,
tachometer, oil pressure, ammeter, fuel and temperature gauges and a
Jaeger clock. The car is equipped with Bleriot headlamps, Grebel swivel
spot-lamp, oil opera lamps with stork insignia and mirrors on the dual
side-mount spares.
The first
automobile manufacturer in France was Panhard-Levassor and is only
second in the world to Daimler-Benz. These two companies worked together
sharing ideas and designs and Daimler actually supplied Panhard with
engines during their first years of production.

Panhard-Levassor
was an established woodworking and machinist firm. They constructed
their first prototype automobile in 1890, and production vehicles in
1891. By 1900, the firm had over 850 employees and were building 75 cars
per month. Even at this capacity, they were unable to keep up with
demand. One of their earliest customers was the Honorable C.S. Rolls
who, a few years later, would build his own car, the Rolls-Royce.

Along
with being an early producer of automobiles, they were also leaders in
technological advancements with one of the first driveshafts instead of
chain-drive and the first to use a pressed-steel chassis frame. They
used racing to promote their produce and captured many significant wins
in many early races, including the Paris-Bordeaux Race.

The work performed by the French firm of
Panhard et Levassor aided in the technical evolution of the automobile.
The work that they did and the innovations that they produced helped
acceleration the popularity of the automobile.

Automobile
production in France had its advantages. The roadways were far superior
to many other countries which led to a quicker acceptance of the
automobile. Racing soon became popular, as did car clubs. Racing became
one of the major means of advertisements, and it was often said that how
an automobile finished during the weekend dictated the sales during the
weekday.

There was a close working relationship between Emile
Levassor and Gottlieb Daimler. Both were mechanically gifted and
together designed and created some of the earliest known examples of the
combustion engine. Experimentation and perfection continued during the
1890's. Levassor preferred placing the engine in the front of the
vehicle while Daimler's designs had the engine located under the seat.

During
an automobile race in 1897, Levassor was seriously injured and died a
short time after. The company continued to produce automobiles but their
importance in the automotive industry declined. In 1965 it was taken
over by Citroen SA.

Though their importance in history was
destined to decline, their period of innovation was truly remarkable.
The vehicles they produced during the early 1900s were among the best in
the world, with their top of the line being the 50HP model. It was
debuted at the 1904 Paris Salon and drew its design and mechanical
inspiration from their 13.5- and 15.5-liter racing cars. The '50HP' was
powered by a 10.6-liter engine that meant each of its four cast-iron
cylinders had a displacement size of 2.6-liters each. The engine was
mated to a four-speed gearbox with a cone clutch similar to the setup
used in Panhard's racing program. Two very sturdy chains were used to
turn the rear wheels.

The 25/30HP cars followed in the 50HP's
footsteps, by offering refinement and luxurious touches that were
virtually unmatched. The four-cylinder engine breathed through a Maybach
spray carburetor and fitted to a four-speed manual gearbox. The power
from the engine was sent to the rear wheels through twin-chains. Braking
The next time you take your classic out for a cruise night or car
show, do an impromptu poll with those in attendance and see how many
folks feel that the ethanol now used in modern fuels is detrimental for
their older vehicles. We wouldn't be surprised if the majority said
yes and had a story about how they thought ethanol was the culprit in a
mechanical malady.
Insurance companies specializing in classic car policies may even
contain an ethanol clause and will not pay out claims if it has been
found to destroy your engine. Hagerty Insurance, a leader in insuring
vintage vehicles, was so concerned that they, in conjunction with the
Kettering University Advanced Engine Research Laboratory, conducted a
study to determine how much danger ethanol really poses to vintage cars.
Preliminary results have recently been reported on Hagerty’s website and they conclude:

"The results from the tests with the SU carburetors and
fuel pumps suggest that E10 can be used in older vehicles, although the
owner is likely to be faced with the additional costs associated with
sealing fuel tanks and cleaning and rebuilding fuel systems more
frequently than in the past. However, it’s best to be cautious about
reading into these preliminary results until the tests of the five other
fuel systems are complete. Until then, it’s safe to assume that you can
continue to drive your collector vehicle using E10; it may just cost
you more in the long run."

The complete article for the Kettering study, Ethanol: Demonic or Devine,
leaves us feeling like E10 is not the bad guy that it has been made out
to be, you just need to be aware of the additional care your classic
car will need over time..

Bristol Cars has manufactured hand built luxury automobiles in
Filton, near Bristol, England since 1947. They have no distributors or
dealers; you must call the company direct to order one of the few cars
they build each week. They claim to be the last wholly British owned
luxury car builder, but their beginnings were found in the bombed out
remains of Germany.
It was 1945 and the end of World War II. Bristol Aeroplane Company
was looking for new means of revenue, since orders for aircraft engines
were drying up, and decided to make automobiles. The company initially
developed a prototype sports coupe, but due to the car’s highly
dangerous handling problems, it literally destroyed itself during
testing on the company’s airfield.
Bristol then decided to manufacture an existing car design. Various
accountings of how Bristol got an existing car design are a little
fuzzy, so let’s say somehow, they got blueprints for and
several examples of late 1930s BMW cars out of Germany and into England.
Then the Bristol Aeroplane Company secured the release of a former BMW
designer, Fritz Fiedler, from military detention, and the Bristol was
born.

The Bristol 400
of 1947 was basically a variety of prewar BMW components and design,
including the engine, a 2.0-liter inline six from BMW’s 328 sports car,
and the twin kidney grille. The 400 set a pattern for future Bristols,
and the chassis didn’t change significantly for over forty years. It
had a sturdy, advanced box-section structure based on the BMW 326
design, and it used steel floor members for extra torsion rigidity on a
114 inch wheelbase.
The Bristol 401, 402, and 403 models that followed between 1948 and 1955 offered little changes and later models added styling and technical changes that buyers found attractive. It was the 407 of 1961
that finally cast off the BMW- derived inline six for a Hemi V-8
supplied by America’s Chrysler - built to Bristol specifications.
The Bristol 407 was reviewed as a superbly built, fully equipped four
seat touring coupe that was genuinely exciting to drive, a "gentleman’s
sports car". But that didn’t change the Bristol Aeroplane Company’s
decision to abandon the car making business and sold the company to
former race car driver Tony Crook and Sir George White.
For over sixty years the Bristol has been hand making about three
cars a week that aren’t entirely attractive and usually cost more than
any other luxury car, but still manage to stay in business. We find
that amazing.
Today the company is owned by Toby Silverman who has been making some
radical design changes, namely the Bristol Fighter. The Fighter has
been reviewed as the most unusual 200 mph+ supercar in the world with a
price tag of $500K. For the die hard traditional Bristol fan, you can
still get the "nicely understated" Blenheim for about $300K.

The History of the Hudson

After the Great Race of 1908, when the world saw an automobile go
from New York to Paris, via Alaska, Japan, Siberia and Berlin in 169
days, car companies started being formed in great numbers. The one we
are highlighting today was created by four former associates of the Olds
Motor Vehicle Company when they got together and began building a line
of cars that became known for value, performance and solid engineering,
the Hudson Motor Car Co. The company was founded in late 1909 and got
its name from its largest investor, Joseph L. Hudson, department store
magnate.
The 1909 Roadster with a four cylinder engine was Hudson's first
model run and got the company off to a great start. By Hudson’s second
year, they ranked eleventh in the US in automobile production. Hudson
was one of the first automakers to develop a "closed" model car
to protect their customers from the elements, an innovation that sent
sales soaring. By 1911, production doubled to over 8000 cars built.
Another good decision by the founders was to put a six cylinder
engine in their standard priced cars in 1913. High performing sixes had
been limited to luxury cars, but now it Hudson was making it available
to a larger car buying audience. By 1915 Hudson was advertising itself
as the "world's largest manufacturer of six cylinder cars."
Hudson continued its success with its "Super Six" with the first
“balanced” crankshaft which gave the car a smoother ride, and together
with its companion car, the low priced four cylinder Essex. By 1925,
sales had grown enough to make Hudson the third largest US automaker
behind Ford and Chevrolet.
The stock market crash of October 1929 and the decade-long Depression
that followed, hit Hudson particularly hard. Had it not been for the
speedy, inexpensive Essex Terraplane, Hudson might have folded by 1940.
The “Great Eight” they introduced in 1930 wasn’t that great. At 213.5
cubic inches, its engine was actually smaller than previous Hudson sixes
and had just 80 horsepower to move a heavy chassis.
Like all major U.S. automakers, Hudson ceased building cars for the
duration of World War II to manufacturer machine guns, aircraft
components and huge engines for naval craft. But once the war ended in
1945, the demand for cars was at an all time high and Hudson’s new Super
Six hit the road running. This Super Six engine evolved into the "308" Hornet
powerplant which made Hudson the king of stock car racing. Overall,
Hudson won 27 of the 34 NASCAR Grand National races in 1952, followed by
22 of 37 in 1953, and 17 of 37 in 1954.
Despite its racing successes, Hudson's wasn’t seeing the sales
numbers climbing and re-engineering their cars would be too expensive
due to their unibody design. Hudson's competitors used separate
body-on-frame designs, and could change the look of their models on a
yearly basis without expensive chassis alterations. In an effort to
survive, Hudson merged with Nash-Kelvinator on May 1, 1954 to form
In our most recent restoration, the 1961 Mark 2 Jaguar, we were astonished
to note that we have owned the car now for 17 months and it’s still only 90%
complete. So we reflected on why the job is taking so long, and along with the
many conversations I have had with friends and enthusiasts, generated the
following observations and thoughts about how to short cut this time.

Evaluate the project
well and plan, plan and plan and include
contingencies for low probability but still possible events. When we
bought our car, we assembled a lengthy list of what needed to be done, and
what we assumed needed to be done. Much of this stood us in good stead for
both the negotiation on the purchase price, as well as to acquire the
right parts and schedule the restoration in a logical order. So we pat
     ourselves on the back here.

Double or triple the
amount of time that your sub-contractors estimate for crucial jobs. We
have had 2 examples of this. The first was where the bodyman was so
disorganized and eager to accept any and all jobs, that the body work,
preparation and painting took 4 months, instead of 4 weeks, and would have
taken longer except for my constant vigilance. The second was on the
rebuilding of a Borg Warner Automatic Transmission which took 3 months,
instead of weeks as originally promised. This took so long because the
shop was very busy (they do great work, at a reasonable price!) and they
neglected to order / find long delivery time parts early after stripping
     down the transmission.

Plan out the
finances......many of those surprises are expensive and beyond
the original budget, so many times we defer work to fit the budget,
especially when we are all loathe to put expenses on the credit card.

Shop well for parts,
and be prepared to buy when the price is right. This will help
with the cost of the restoration, but can retard the finish. Actually we
had the opposite effect when I pre-purchased the leather interior to take
advantage of a 30% discount during the depths of the recession – lucky us.

Parts may be plain unavailable.
This is usually a serious schedule impact, and may involve specialty
machining or fabrication. Usually major cost impact as well.

If the car must be
left at a restoration shop, then it is difficult to move along simpler
tasks that you can do yourself. This we have found to be a major
effect, as when the car is in our garage all waking hours are dedicated to
progress. Unfortunately body work, transmission, cooling systems, brakes,
rear axle rebuild, engine bearings are all reasons for the car being out
of my garage. In spite of this we have organized to do wood and leather
interior work independently, as well as all the exterior chrome. But much
time for installing insulation, refitting parts, and polishing the beauty
     is foregone.
