Mixture of different woods. It works because of the break with a bright stove, and vent. Also, the different textures - rough hewn cabinets, pine floor.

The famous "Pioneer Woman" in her giant kitchen. Lots of wood again and broken up with the blue stone and cream walls

A Cute Store!!

I stumbled upon this great bookstore in Rosemary Beach Florida. Unfortunately, I don't remember it's name (sorry) but got some great pictures of their decor.

Check out this cozy reading area. You know I love blue so I adore this tufted sofa and isn't the chandelier precious? Perfect for the beach-it's a crystal ship chandelier!! Charming!!

Okay.....I want you to notice these inventive ball lights in the same store. They caught my eye because they were so interesting AND as I looked closer.....

They are made with pages from books! How cute for a bookstore. Looks like they took regular ball lanterns you can buy at Pottery Barn, World Market, etc and glued on pages from books cut out in circles!! Precious!!

Part 3 Alys Beach

More Photos....These are from the neighboring town, Alys Beach. Alys Beach is a quiet and serene location. I felt like I was in a spa. Every structure in white with other subtle accented colors. We had dinner at the Caliza Restaurant there in Alys and it was just wonderful. Enjoy!!

Vacation Architecture

Finally Back from the "vacay" and much too soon I must say. We had a lovely time in Seacrest and Rosemary Beach Florida. I have captured just a small taste of the beautiful surroundings there and in the neighboring Alys Beach.

The white sugar sands are just heavenly BUT the houses and surroundings just stole my heart. We rented bikes for the week (like everyone else) and had many bike jaunts through the courtyards and boardwalks of these neighborhoods. I snapped a small sampling photos just to give an idea of the loveliness until my hubby had endured enough and folks probably thought I worked for some fabulous magazine! Ha- I couldn't help it. There were just so many beauties - one right after the next. Enjoy!!

I love these pots on the front porch. And also, love those shutters.

There is wonderful, lush foliage everywhere...I love the vine over this wooden gate!

Check out the vine growing so tightly on this front porch railing. I would love to know what it is!

Ikat Fabric

Ikat is an ancient way of creating a woven fabric from resist dyeing - and I love it! It comes in various colors and various designs but each are distinctly IKAT. It is great for window treatments, pillows or bedding.

This one has a contemporary but rustic feel. The headboard is fantastic- looks like maybe was an old door. And the punch of orange is great.

New Life to Old Chairs

Oh, how I wish I had taken "before" pictures!!!

These were a pair of club chairs that had hunter green and cream check upholstery. A talented upholsterer took my suggestions and added new stuffing and a tailored skirt and voila!

Beautiful new chairs.

They add such great personality to the den.

Never discard old furniture without first thinking about re-covering. If it has good lines and bones anything can happen. Find great fabric (there are endless possibilities.....and we have great sources!), get a great upholsterer (again, we have great sources!) and Voila!! New life to old tired chairs. And it's the "green" thing!!!

I love figs!! Not many people like figs or even know what figs are (can you believe that?). When I was little, my grandparents had several fig trees and I absolutely loved to pick them when they were ripe. The sweet, pink flesh was just wonderful. A friend gave me some recently and I dug through the refridgerator and luckily had some goat cheese and Ritz crackers in the pantry and voila! Instant appetizer!! Try it!!

Tip for the Day.......

Add some green to a room - such as a plant or cuttings from the yard, as see what a difference it makes in your room. It adds life! Also, it adds interest, texture and personality. Just check out the scenes below and imagine how lifeless it would look without the touch of green!

Just a simple arrangement on the coffee table. Looks like a dough bowl maybe - great idea!

Love the fern on the mantle. Also the big palm.

Tulips from your local flower shop or grocery.

In your foyer!!

Love this idea - which I do all the time. When you have some trees with some green (not the dead of winter), clip off a branch and bring it inside. Beautiful! You can also force some buds on a blooming tree or shrub in the winter.

I love Sarah Richardson. She had 2 shows this fall on HGTV: 1. Sarah's House 2. Design Inc.
I love them both. Sarah's House was her big endeavor to buy and remodel an old farmhouse. Her "sidekick" / assistant is Tommy (who is hilarious) and they, along with the entire crew work magic. I love everything about the old farmhouse. It is so bright and cheery - simply charming!

Design Inc. is a show with her design business associates and their clients. A bit more modern design - but still beautiful. Try to look for these shows on HGTV or find Sarah on her website :Sarahrichardsondesign.com

The website is a gem - chocked full of design tips, products, advice, ideas and beautiful pictures. You will love it!!

Hanging of the Greens

I love fresh greenery at Christmas time. The smell of fresh pine and cedar fills you home and creates such a lovely holiday atmosphere. This mantle is from a magazine of which I can not remember. It was saved in the mountains of clips I have stored on my computer and the source was not identified (of which I apologize), but I could not resist sharing with you all.

It's really not hard to recreate. Layer garlands of greenery of cedar and fir and fill in with pine, berries and in this case pheasant feathers.

We can often be seen on the side of the road collecting sprigs of greenery from random trees and shrubs that grow wild. Or if you have a friend that lovingly shares is a wonderful thing! Magnolia is one of our favorites - it lasts a long time inside and fills the space abundately. It's sorta a southern thing - you know Steel Magnolias!

Try fresh greenery in your holiday decor this year - we know you will love it!

Christmas China

Just wondering... how many of you readers out there have separate china for the holidays??? Huh??? Now, I've been married for 18 years, and I DO have Christmas salad plates to my wedding china - Lennox Citation Gold. But, I have to say that I LOVE these Christmas dishes from Vietrie. Love is probably not the appropriate word.... more like COVET!!. Now, don't judge - I know I'm not supposed to covet anything so I will accept any counseling that anyone can provide. HELP - I want these dishes. I've looked at them for about 2 years now and still love them as much today as ever.
