The size S is particularly adapted to women, here with Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed components and Campagnolo Vento G3 wheels. Very nice ride, bike is very light and stiff due to its small size. To complete the De Rosa a Deda handle bar, LOOK pedals, Continental tyres and Tacx water bottle cages.

The first item is a long sleeves jersey from the Gewiss Ballan team from 1995, made by the Italian maker Biemme.

A Gewiss-Ballan short sleeves jersey from 1994, made by Biemme.

Here a very special item of my collection: It's an Asics jersey from the Asics Cycling Team 1998 worn by the former Italian champion Michele Bartoli the year he won the Liege-Bastogne-Liege Classic. The jersey is approximately a size XS, the label shows "Bartoli" because they were tailored for the team and are different from the ones on retail. This jersey has been signed by Michele Bartoli in the late 1998 in Montecarlo.

Here a pair of legendary Briko Zen sunglasses as worn by Marco Pantani in 1998. Still look fantastic!

And a pair of Rudy Project Aggressor sunglasses as worn by Giorgio Furlan and the Gewiss-Ballan Team in 1994... Such a great retro look!

Another of my recent finds in Europe, a beautiful and rare cycling jersey made by the Italian Sportful for the Sovietic Cycling Team in the late 1980ies (1989-1990). This one has been issued and worn by a team member of the legendary Alfa Lum Infissi squad, which could be either Serguei Soukhoroutchenkov, Andrei Tchmil, Piotr Ugrumov, Djamolidine Abdoujaparov, Viktor Klimov, Dimitri Konyshev, Vladimir Poulnikov or Ivan Ivanov. A real piece of history! I let the pictures do the talking.

Let's start with the tubulars cement or glue. I used to glue my tubulars with this one and I'm happy to see that it's still being produced. I'm talking about the Velox Tubasti, mastice gutta. Never had problems with it and in my opinion a bit better than the Vittoria glue. On top of that it's one of the cheapest on the market!

I'm also recommending strongly all the Veloflex products, both tyres and tubulars are fantastic. How to legally dope your bike! Veloflex might be slightly more expensive than the competition, but they are still manufactured in Europe and they supply many many professional cycling teams under white label. Veloflex offers the tyres which give you the closest sensation to drive on tubulars! Tubulars are still ahead in my opinion in terms of comfort and precision, but having Veloflex tyres on your rims is the best alternative to tubulars... Have riden many years Wolber, Vittoria, Continental and Michelin, but Veloflex takes it all.

If you want to fine tune your bike, then PMP is your best choice. I'm using their products since 1998 and I just love them. The titanium seatposts are great, not only they look very good on a bike, but they also filtrate a lot of the road vibrations, even when you have a very stiff frame. PMP offers a wide range of products, quick release skewers and bolts are a must.

Using Silca Pompe pumps for almost 20 years, I strongly recommend them! They are reliable and strong, those ones won't let you down!

If you are looking for something exceptionnal, then the Marresi cycling shoes are for you. Made from leather in Italy, they ally a beautiful vintage look and a pure italian style design.

Not a vintage one but probably one of the best cycling apparel manufacturer around these days, namely MEM. Made in Italy, which is getting rare...

SCI-CON s.n.c., established in 1980, had been the first company in Italy which recognized the cycle bags and accessories field as an available commercial area with a certain expanding future. For almost 20 years the company has been projecting and manufacturing bicycle travel bags and under-seat bags. I really recommended those product for their great design, ease of use and durability.

Finally some sunny days! I managed to do some outside pictures of my De Rosa Primato, but not completely in the Gewiss-Ballan Team Replica since I used the Campagnolo Shamal HPW wheels from 1996. Also the Selle Italia Flite saddle doesn't match the Replica and will be replaced with a black one soon...

This one has been my racing bike for one season. It’s a Dedacciai 7003 aluminium frame from the year 1998, the same was used by the professional team Riso Scotti the same year. The particularity of this frame is its exceptional painting; De Rosa indeed released a small amount of frames in the blue-yellow colour of the unfortunately no longer existing Team Ferraro of Arma di Taggia, Italy. I estimate the total amount of those frames to 30-40 pieces maximum.
The frame came with its steel fork, I added the 1999 Campagnolo Chorus group and other components the following year.
Here below the listing of the components and the pictures. Enjoy!

The De Rosa Planet is with certainty one of the best bikes I have ever ridden. First of all it’s a very resistant frame, with a perfect finish and welding. It is reactive, fast and still very comfortable for an aluminium frame. The PMP seat post adds some comfort in my opinion too. No wonder that a professional team adopted it as their race machine in 1998.

This is my second “vintage” project, already more vintage that the Colnago Tecnos one.
I found this one in Italy too, the bike was kind of put-together mixture with Campagnolo C-Record, Chorus and Athena parts.
The frame has seen some wear and is rusty in some parts. The Columbus EL tubing was quite the top end at the time, and it’s still a light weight bike nowadays. An additional interesting feature is the Gewiss Ballan team colours pattern (blue-grey), quite difficult to find. A real “Eugeni Berzin” Replica for collectors.
Here below the listing of the components and the pictures. Enjoy!

- De Rosa Primato frame with particular reinforced bottom bracket, slightly oversized EL tubes made by Columbus. The size is a 52x53 cm, quite standard for the time.
- De Rosa fork, chromed.
- Campagnolo C-Record seat post.
- Selle Italia Flite titanium saddle, black leather with Selle Italia embroidery.
- Campagnolo seat post bolt.
- 3ttt titanium stem, 120 mm.
- 3ttt Prima 220 “Anatomic” handlebar, 42 cm.
- Campagnolo C-Record bearings.
- Campagnolo C-Record 8s ergopower levers from 1994.
- Elite Ciussi water bottle cage with titanium bolts.
- Campagnolo C-Record bottom bracket.
- Campagnolo C-Record crank set, 8s in 170 mm length, chain rings 53 and 41.
- Campagnolo C-Record pedals, Look system.
- Campagnolo C-Record brakes.
- Campagnolo C-Record 8s front derailleur.
- Campagnolo C-Record 8s rear mech.
- Campagnolo Record 9s chain.
- Campagnolo Shamal 8s aero wheels, for tubulars.
- Campagnolo Record 8s cassette, 13-23.
- Veloflex Criterium tubulars, 22 mm section.
- Deda white handlebar tape.

Impressions:

I was writing in a previous post that my Colnago Tecnos was probably the best bike I have ever ridden... well, that's not true anymore! I will put the De Rosa Primato on top of my list. The bike is just fantastic, smooth ride, pure pleasure and unequaled comfort. Even with the Campagnolo Shamal wheels and tyres, the frames absorbs most of the road vibrations, much more than the Colnago Tecnos with the same wheelset. That makes the Colnago Tecnos a pure racing machine and the De Rosa Primato more an "all-rounder", which is just perfect for my current usage.

This was my first real “vintage” project, even if I don’t know if one can speak about vintage for a bike which is only 13 years old.
I found it in Italy, the frame has been converted a long time ago to a city bike with a dull steel fork, straight handlebar and Shimano components. I decided to buy only the frame and get the parts myself. The frame was only lightly used and still looked great. The Tecnos is well-known to be the most refined and light steel frame ever made by Ernesto Colnago, maybe less famous than its brother Master Olympic, but definitely as good.
I managed to find a NOS Colnago Precisa fork to match the Gilco Design frame. The project was getting to life…
Here below the listing of the components and the pictures. Enjoy!

- Colnago Tecnos frame with the particular Gilco Design, slightly oversized tubes made by Columbus. The size is a 51x53 cm, quite standard for the time.
- Colnago Precisa straight fork, chromed.
- Campagnolo Chorus titanium seat post, which I will try to replace in the future with a Campagnolo Record titanium or a PMP titanium one.
- Selle Italia Flite Vanox saddle, black leather.
- Campagnolo seat post bolt.
- 3ttt titanium stem, 120 mm.
- 3ttt Ergo Power 2 round “Italian” handlebar, 43 cm.
- Campagnolo Record/Chorus bearings.
- Campagnolo Record titanium 8s ergopower levers from 1996.
- Elite Ciussi Inox water bottle cage with titanium bolts.
- Campagnolo Record bottom bracket.
- Campagnolo Record crank set, 8-9s in 170 mm length, chain rings 53 and 39.
- Campagnolo Record pedals, Look system.
- Campagnolo Record brakes.
- Campagnolo Record 8s front derailleur.
- Campagnolo Record titanium 8s rear mech.
- Campagnolo Record 9s chain.
- Campagnolo Shamal 8s aero wheels, for tyres.
- Campagnolo Record 8s cassette, 13-23.
- Veloflex Pavé tyres, 22 mm section.
- Colnago Pink handlebar tape.

Impressions: The Colnago Tecnos is definitely one of the best bikes I have ever ridden. On it you don’t only feel fast, but also easy and safe. The frame is very reactive and precise in the trajectory.
Impressions: The legendary Reynolds tubing needs no presentation and makes of this bike a perfect race machine. The bike is not only very light, it is also very resistant and safe in driving. This one accompanied me on various alpine mountains and races. I climbed up the famous Mont Ventoux with it in the year 1995.

This bike needs no presentation. It’s a Dedacciai SC61.10A aluminium frame from the year 1999, to commemorate the one used by the professional team Mercatone Uno from Marco Pantani in the year 1998.
The frame came with its Bianchi Carbon fork, not the Time one like on the Team’s issue bikes and 1998 bikes. My intention was to create a team replica bike as ridden by the Mercatone Uno squad in 1998, thing which is not so easy for different reasons: For example finding a round ITM handlebar can be very challenging! I also replaced the original ITM Big One stem by a no name one, since the Big One didn’t have a great reputation in terms of solidity… The pedals are Look ones since I don’t use Time.
In the next future I will replace all bolts and skewers with PMP titanium ones.
Here below the listing of the components and the pictures. Enjoy!
