Fishing For Sight Words

Your students will love fishing for their sight words. This activity requires just a little bit of assembly, but it is so well worth it. All you need to do is print and cut the fish and then attach a paper clip to each nose. Assemble a fishing pole with a dowel rod, string and a magnet and you'll have a ready-made center activity guarenteed to be a hit!

My Summer Senses Easy Reader

A great way to review the 5 senses as well as the 4 seasons!

Students get practice tracing and writing words and use picture clues to read the sentences.

Children also get cutting and gluing fine motor reinforcement by matching the numbered picture to the box in their booklet.

You will need:

A frog (or any other animal)

Cards

What to do:

Beforehand prepare a set of cards with parts of the speech. I made mines with flies because frogs eat insects.Tell your children they have to feed the frog. But this frog doesn’t like eating the same everyday, so today she wants to eat just prepositions, for instance up, in, on…So children have to read the words they have and use the prepositions to feed the frog.

Or, I like to use them as centers activities, morning work, or during other independent work time. I think it helps build students' abilities to respond to a prompt, and gets them writing creatively. My Dad Booklet

Since the My Mom booklet was so popular for Mother's Day, I decided to whip off a My Dad one for Father's Day.

This is great practice for adjectives and verbs.

Because students draw a picture of their daddy, and include a school photo, this booklet makes a special keepsake.

Because we are out of school before Father's Day, I always have my students put together a few things the last week of school and tuck them away for that special day.

Everyone seems to always appreciate not leaving the daddies out.

Goodbye Poem for Students

We use poetry anthologies in our classroom all year, but I always save this "goodbye" poem for last. Even if you don't create anthologies with your students, this freebie is a cute way to say goodbye to your class. I use the white space in the bottom right to write a short note to each student. Need an interesting writing prompt for the week of Memorial Day?

How about: Why I'm proud to be an American!

Brainstorm ideas with students, write their answers on the board, pre-cut yellow stars for them to write their answers on and have them glue the stars to their patriotic picture.

Make it a keepsake by having them glue their school picture to one of the bodies and a friend's photo to the other.
