<p>The Avon Foundation for Women has announced the third annual Walk the Course Against Domestic Violence season, which expands to two cities in 2011: Charlotte, NC, and Lemont, IL.</p>

<p>Walk the Course is a non-competitive, family-friendly event for all ages and 100 percent of proceeds raised at each event benefits local domestic violence agencies. Participants will walk 18 holes (5 miles) alongside tournament players&#8217; wives and families to raise much-needed funds and awareness for the domestic violence cause.</p>
<p>The third annual walk in Charlotte, NC, will take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC, during the PGA TOUR&#8217;s Wells Fargo Championship. The inaugural Walk the Course-Chicagoland will take place on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the Cog Hill Golf &amp; Country Club in Lemont, IL, during the PGA TOUR&#8217;s BMW Championship, part of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.</p>
<p>The funds raised at the events will enable local domestic violence agencies to help individuals affected by domestic violence, as well as to educate people about the issue, with the goal of helping create a world without domestic violence. The 2010 Walk the Course-Charlotte drew nearly 1,000 participants, with 100 percent of the proceeds ($100,000) donated directly to North Carolina domestic violence agencies.</p>
<p>We encourage you, your families and your friends to participate in one of the Walk the Course events.</p>
<p>Registration for both 2011 events is now open and participants can register online at WalktheCourseAgainstDV.org or by calling 866-646-2866. Fund-raising is encouraged, but voluntary. Incentive prizes are offered to encourage fund-raising. Top fund-raisers will have the opportunity to meet PGA TOUR golfers participating in both championships at a private reception immediately following each walk.</p>

As a wife, a busy mother of two and a proud owner of three rescue dogs in Zeeland, Michigan, Robyn Stephenson has a lot on her plate. The Australian native remembers growing up with Avon as a young child, just as many Representatives do. Years later and 11,000 miles away, in the face of uncertain times and with a family of her own, she would choose Avon as her surefire plan for success.</p>
<p>Due to the economic downturn, Robyn&#8217;s husband—who&#8217;d spent 15 years in the auto industry—had been let go from his job. As the weeks passed without any sign of work, Robyn began to think of ways she could help support her family. &#8220;After my husband was laid off late last year, I knew I had to do something to try and help balance an uncontrollable financial situation,&#8221; she says. Robyn&#8217;s extensive background in retail and sales led to her decision to become a Representative. &#8220;I chose Avon because I grew up with the products and knew the company had a really good heart,&#8221; she says. &#8220;I also love helping others and giving back to my community, which made Avon the perfect fit.&#8221; In just nine months, she&#8217;s become a seasoned Avon Representative who offers her tips, insight into and love for her newfound profession.</p>
<p>Behind every great Representative is a solid support team. As a new member of the Avon family, Robyn cites her relationships as the source of her success. &#8220;I truly value the amazing network of women Avon has created in my life,&#8221; says Robyn. &#8220;I have drawn a lot of motivation to sell from the other ladies on my Sales Leadership Team, and I just love my Customers!&#8221;<br />

For Robyn, the key to success has been developing relationships of trust and honesty with her Customers. &#8220;I always ask for feedback on every product and follow up with my Customers after they&#8217;ve made a purchase,&#8221; Robyn stresses. &#8220;If I sell a skin care regimen, I remember to contact that Customer a couple months later when their products are almost finished. I ask if they like their kit and recommend other products they might also like to try,&#8221; she explains. With less than a year under her belt, she&#8217;s seeing her Customer base quickly expand. &#8220;The results have been great, and the positive word-of-mouth has brought me many referrals.&#8221;</p>
<p>Working as an Avon Representative has been a rewarding experience for Robyn, bringing her financial stability and the opportunity to give back. &#8220;Not only have I been able to support my family as a Representative, but I&#8217;m also able to donate a portion of my earnings to a cause dear to my heart,&#8221; she explains. Both she and her husband have been diagnosed with cervical dystonia, a neurological disorder that affects the body&#8217;s nerve and muscle tissues. In her new role as a Representative, she&#8217;s able to make regular donations to a foundation for the disease.</p>
<p>Being a Representative also affords Robyn flexibility: She&#8217;s able to maintain speaking engagements for dystonia, and also to volunteer with an organization that serves underprivileged Australian women. &#8220;I love helping people,&#8221; she says. &#8220;I&#8217;ve always had a love for service and Avon provides a great way for me to help others while earning extra income.&#8221; While she enjoys her work and its many benefits, she also cites another relationship as a vital source of support and motivation—her family.</p>
<p>At the heart of her new career choice, it&#8217;s the Stephenson family that keeps this Representative positive and proactive. Robyn&#8217;s 15-year marriage to husband Brian is full of mutual love and support. The couple has been through very difficult times together. Over the years, Brian has undergone six different brain surgeries to help treat his dystonia. Despite such stressful hardships, Robyn, Brian and their two young children stick together and work as a team. &#8220;My husband is my greatest asset,&#8221; she says. &#8220;He is my financial manager, making sure I don&#8217;t overinvest,&#8221; she says, chuckling.</p>
<p>She even gets help from her daughters, ages five and seven. &#8220;One day at the beach, my little one asked for a brochure to hand to a woman nearby,&#8221; according to Robyn. &#8220;She&#8217;s a natural when it comes to sales!&#8221; The Stephensons make Robyn&#8217;s work a family affair. &#8220;We form an assembly line and everyone helps with stamping, stapling, preparing samples and orders,&#8221; she says. &#8220;As busy as we already are, it seems like the more we have going on, the better we do. We are Team Stephenson!&#8221;</p>
<p>With a strong support system at home, Robyn hopes to sell enough Avon to achieve a special goal. &#8220;Our biggest dream is to be able to make a trip back to Australia to visit family,&#8221; she says.</p>
<p>Robyn&#8217;s work with Avon has only just begun, but she knows she has found the right career. &#8220;Avon fits so well with our lives. Like Avon, I live by example, supporting my family and the issues that matter most to me.&#8221; Thanks to Avon, what started out as uncertainty and apprehension has become stability and happiness for Robyn and those she loves most.</p>

<p><strong>Mentoring and Leading Women to Financial Independence Is Her Life&#8217;s Purpose</strong></p>

<p>This natural leader says, &#8220;When I help others achieve their goals, mine automatically follow.&#8221;</p>
<p>A. C. Nwachuku of Vauxhall, New Jersey, an auditor and certified CPA, has been selling Avon since February 2009, after being downsized from her corporate leadership job. She recalls, &#8220;I knew Avon because my mom sold it in the &#8217;80s. In fact, I still wear and get compliments on a Kenneth J. Lane choker Avon sold back then! But I also did my research: Avon is the world&#8217;s largest micro-lender to women, and for only $10 you can start your own business. So I contacted a friend who sold, and said, &#8216;Sign me up!&#8217; &#8221;</p>
<p>A. C., who has achieved Honor Society-level sales, meets potential Customers everywhere she goes. She quotes her friend—&#8221;If folks take showers &#8216;periodically,&#8217; they&#8217;re potential Customers!&#8221;—and then adds: &#8220;You would not believe where I find them. For instance, the gas station. While the attendant was waiting for me to pay, I asked him, &#8216;Are you married? What do you wear on your skin? What does she wear? Do you follow NASCAR? (I&#8217;m trying to sell Turn4XT, the new NASCAR men&#8217;s fragrance.) I&#8217;d love to get your feedback on this sample. Here&#8217;s a brochure. Your number is … oh, that&#8217;s not it? Thanks.&#8217; It puts people at ease when you get their opinion. You&#8217;re not selling them something; you&#8217;re getting their feedback and they&#8217;re helping you out. What&#8217;s the worst thing they can say? No—to the product. I tell my Representatives, &#8216;If I offer you a stick of gum and you say no, it&#8217;s to the gum, not to me. And maybe you&#8217;ll pass it on to someone else.&#8217; &#8221;</p>
<p>She explains why Customers prefer to shop with her: &#8220;It&#8217;s easier to shop with me than at the drugstore, because I can tell you how the product works. I listen carefully, and I&#8217;m not just an order-taker. I&#8217;ll ask my Customers if they have kids—I sell so many backpacks! Are they going on vacation? Maybe they need sunblock. I pay attention—it&#8217;s relationship-selling, and I have strong relationships with my Customers. They help me with referrals, too, which I encourage with free gifts and volume discounts.&#8221;</p>
<p>A. C. became a Unit Leader in just two campaigns, and expects to make Advanced Unit Leader (AUL) soon. She says, &#8220;I started off by recruiting my Customers. They already shared the brochure with colleagues and friends, so I offered them not just a discount, but the opportunity to earn a living while mentoring and coaching others. That&#8217;s my life&#8217;s purpose—mentoring and leading women to financial independence. When I help others achieve their goals, mine automatically follow. By helping my Representatives serve their Customers better, I achieve my own performance goals. Avon is about service, and that&#8217;s part of who I am. It&#8217;s not about me making AUL; it&#8217;s about them—about helping my team members to achieve their dreams, and about our combined Customers.&#8221;</p>
<p>A. C. says that both her District Sales Manager and her Upline emphasize showing Downline members how to build Customers. &#8220;I typically schedule appointments in cafes or in restaurants,&#8221; she says, &#8220;and I&#8217;ll model finding Customers all the way through to closing the sale, if possible. It may be with the maitre&#8217; d, the server, the valet, whomever. They all take showers, don&#8217;t they? As we walk out, my new Representative gets the chance to practice in front of me with other patrons in the parking lot! It&#8217;s trial by fire; but I used to be very shy, so I empathize.&#8221;</p>
<p>A. C. also goes prospecting with her Downline; stresses the importance of recruiting existing Customers; and strategizes with her team to help them succeed. She says, &#8220;We periodically look at our performance—our wins as well as areas we need to focus on. Once team members see how their actions can help them achieve their dreams, they tend to follow through. Avon&#8217;s Incentives offer objective, monetary rewards, plus strategies and timeframes to achieve them. We work backwards, beginning with the end in mind. And if a member needs one more Recruit to reach her Fast Start goal, the whole team pitches in to help.&#8221;</p>
<p>She adds, &#8220;I follow up constantly—by text, e-mail, phone or Facebook. And I use Downline Manager to see who needs training; incurs extra-order fees; has returns that could be sold; or is at a &#8216;hot point&#8217;—where another dollar in sales could up her commission to 50%. I talk with my Downline about watching those.&#8221;</p>
<p>A. C. says that the key to her success—time management—is also her biggest challenge. Married with two little girls, ages six and four-and-a-half, she also works as a corporate consultant; is a church vestry member; and mentors several women outside of Avon. She says, &#8220;My girls call my business &#8216;Mommy&#8217;s Stickers&#8217; because they help me label the brochures. I give them a quarter, and we go shopping with their Avon money. I&#8217;m teaching them financial independence! And my husband helps with deliveries, shares brochures with coworkers and even cooks when I have an Open House. But there&#8217;s so much to do in this business: so many tips, great ideas and ways to partner. So I prioritize and communicate boundaries. Instead of multitasking, I compartmentalize and focus on who I&#8217;m with. My family time is sacred. When I&#8217;m in church, nothing else matters. When I take time for myself, no one encroaches on that. In the end, it all balances out!&#8221;</p>

<p><strong>Ruth Transforms Negative Energy into a Positive Force!</strong></p>

<p>When Ruth Wible, the author of these sentiments, walks outside her small two-story house in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, she feels the serenity of this quaint town along the Allegheny River. Its peacefulness is a marked contrast to the stress and anxiety she experiences from the challenges she has had to face before and during her Avon career.</p>
<p>Ruth and her husband, Steve, each have a disability that profoundly affects their lives.Ruth has a rare disease that can flare up at any time. The blood vessels in her legs break, causing them to balloon, blister and scar. Only a size 13 men’s slipper fits, and for one entire winter,</p>
<p>she had to visit her doctor in bare feet. Ruth was on steroids for a year, and her weight skyrocketed from 175 to 300 pounds. Always lurking in the back of her mind is the worry that the disease will return to disrupt her life.Ruth’s husband Steve has had an illness almost his whole life—he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at 22 months. When Ruth met him, his sugar was out of control; it would swing from high to low.</p>
<p>But he couldn’t feel the effects, which put him at risk for accidents. Soon after Ruth married Steve, he wrecked his car as a result of low blood sugar. Once it was no longer safe for him to work, he had to go on disability. When the medications and an insulin pump failed to stabilize his condition, his only hope was a pancreas transplant.</p>
<p>That was in November 2008, one month after Ruth became an Avon Representative.Steve went to Ohio’s Cleveland Clinic for a transplant evaluation and was approved. But stress and tension mounted with the uncertainty, as they hoped for that critical phone call saying that a pancreas was available. Now Ruth always had to stay within 20 minutes of home and be ready to arrive at the hospital within four hours.</p>
<p>A Serious Entrepreneur Ruth Wible is a serious entrepreneur. She started her Avon business for extra money to pay the bills, but her career became her love: her doorway out of depression and a source of confidence and self-esteem. In a short time she achieved President’s Club, became a Unit Leader and received the Spirit of Avon Award. Now she knew that, despite her challenges, she’d have to change her negative thoughts and focus her energy more than ever before on her business. &#8220;The<br />
madder I got, the more I advanced my business,&#8221; she explains.</p>
<p>Ruth began to put plans into place. She told all her Customers, Downline members and Recruits that she had to be on alert for the call from the clinic. Between her strategies, her District Sales Manager Kathy Lowry’s unwavering commitment and her Customers’ cooperation, Ruth kept moving her business forward. She even bought a laptop so that she could conduct her business while in Cleveland.</p>
<p>For 16 months, the couple lived with the anxiety and stress, just waiting for the call. After two calls that were false alarms, the third one finally came through.</p>
<p>This chapter in Ruth’s life has a happy ending. Her husband’s surgery was successful; they spent only two weeks in Cleveland instead of the month they feared; Steve had only one minor rejection; and now he is able to work part-time. They couldn’t be<br />
happier!</p>
<p>Ruth attributes her strength throughout this experience to her parents. &#8220;I believe it’s a little bit of stubbornness that comes from my mom and dad. They didn’t let anything stop them, bless their hearts, and they had 15 children,&#8221; she explains.</p>
<p>But Ruth was primarily motivated to succeed because of her husband. &#8220;He inspires me the most. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be where I am today,&#8221; she says.</p>
<p>When asked what she has learned about herself from this ordeal, she replies, &#8220;There is really not too much that is going to stop me completely. I might slow down, but I will figure out how to get over it, through it, around it, and I will get past it.&#8221;</p>
