More Litter cleaning !!

Hey there guys! Group leader Blaine Valadez and family were at it again this weekend. Friday Evening for a short amount of time and Saturday they cleaned litter around the Point Defiance Park around Owen Beach area for a total of 8 hours!! All bundled up and having a great time! We weighed the trash afterward for a total of 15.5 lbs! Great job team :) Pics to come!!

Community Service Litter Cleaning!!

Our own leader Blaine Valadez, and his got outside to do some litter cleaning on November 9th and 10th in the Graham area along Meridian Street E! After about six hours of cleaning each day, we weighed the litter collected and it totaled over 20lbs! Great job team. Pics to come sooN!

Ranger Steve keeps Chambers Creek Clean

Hey everyone,

When we arrived at Chambers Creek all the trash had been collected, thanks to Ranger Steve! If you've been to Chambers Creek on a sunny day, you might have encountered a unique guy named Steve, he's dedicated his personal time for 20+ YEARS collecting trash left behind by recreational visitors in the Canyon. He's brought his boat, countless times to load up the piles of trash bags accumulated from the last weekend surge of partiers.
Ranger Steve is a humble guy, but we know he really deserves recognition. Without Steve, Chambers Creek would have been over-run with trash long ago. We need more people like him, that really care about this location. Chambers Creek was identified as the most environmentally sensitive area within the Chambers Creek properties. Hundreds of youth in the area enjoy beautiful area each year, yet lack of recreational infacstucture is causing the natural habitat distress. We know it this location needs care, Ranger Steve's efforts have helped battle the trash problem for years but he could sure use some help~! During the winter, we will be cleaning trails with Steve every Thursday we can and hope other creek lovers can help out. Thank you Steve for all your efforts, you truly make this great natural location as well as popular skimboarding spot a better place.

Titlow Park is looking more Tidy!

Hey again,
We had a great time cleaning up Titlow Park in Tacoma, Washington yesterday, collecting 29lbs of litter! It was a very sunny and warm day, we really enjoyed getting out in the sun and cleaning up this area. Titlow seems to be pretty severely littered every time we visit. The amount of littered trash in the area seemed to be the same as when we had our very FIRST cleaning party there back in June this year. We cleaned up many containers stuffed in the rocks and bushes. There was an ALARMING amount of animal droppings just left along the side of the concrete path running parallel with the railroad tracks, Gross! Cigarette butts, cigarette butts, and more cigarette butts, EVERYWHERE. We had some great help cleaning though, thank you Alex and Yanina who came from Seattle to help us clean and enjoy the day.

We met up today at Point Defiance Park to make our beautiful local park a better place. With the help of grabbers and bags provided by Tacoma Metro Parks Chip-in! program, CBG marched strong up and down the beach and walkways at Owens Beach cleaning trash. We collected about 25 lbs of trash, a few pairs of underwear...., socks and plenty of cigarette butts. Most of the trash was thrown along the walkway, the beach was pretty clean of litter. We met a fellow sound cleaner, who was using a metal detector. At first we thought he was looking for treasure but after I tried to throw away his water bottle he'd left, we were able to chat about our activities. He was collecting batteries from the beach, he said he'd removed a TON from Alki Beach in Seattle. We met some cool people, saw some cute puppies and picked up some stinky litter!

Thanks everyone who helped out. Special thanks to awesome Denise for donating hotdogs and chips and goodies for everyone to enjoy after the clean up event!

Are Car Washes Good For the Environment? Yes.

Few people realize that washing our cars in our driveways is one of the most environmentally un-friendly chores we can do around the house.

Unlike household waste water that enters sewers or septic systems and undergoes treatment before it is discharged into the environment, what runs off from your car goes right into storm drains -- and eventually into rivers, streams, creeks and wetlands where it poisons aquatic life and wreaks other ecosystem havoc.

If you wash your car in your Driveway, Might as well do this below. Storm Runoff drains don't lead to waste water treatment plants like the water from your home does.

After all, that water is loaded with a witch’s brew of gasoline, oil and residues from exhaust fumes -- as well as the harsh detergents being used for the washing itself.

Commercial Car Washes Treat The Waste Water
On the other hand, federal laws in both the U.S. and Canada require commercial carwash facilities to drain their wastewater into sewer systems, so it gets treated before it is discharged back into the great outdoors. And commercial car washes use computer controlled systems and high-pressure nozzles and pumps that minimize water usage. Many also recycle and re-use the rinse water.

CBG helps Metro Parks' Chip In Program!

HELP CBG AND METRO PARKS CLEAN TITLOW.
Clean Beach Group is ready to do what we do best, clean up some litter! Metro Parks returned our contact, informing us that Titlow Beach is a great place we could really help. Since this was the location of our first ever clean up, we thought we'd head back! We're ready to step it up to BI-monthly clean ups, and we want YOUR help. The dates are soon to be determined, please stay posted. We hope to see some University Place and Tacoma residents out to help us in September.

Metro Parks Chip-in Page

The Chip In Program, is about citizens giving back to their communities by helping clean litter in our parks. It's a great cause, and Clean Beach Group is glad to participate. Titlow Park is a great place, with a wide variety of attractions for all ages. We're ready to help Metro Parks with the clean up of the area, we'd love more volunteers to help us get all the contamination out of our Puget Sound, and this awesome park near it. We look forward to working with Metro Parks chip-in program and enjoying the outdoors at the same time.

Hiked Chambers Creek Park near University Place took Great Pics!

Awesome tree in Chambers Creek Park.

Clean Beach Group able to take some Great pics in chambers creek park along the creek. There is evidence of illegal dumping everywhere along the water, Clean Beach Group hopes to help get some of this waste out of the area. Hiking along the water, there sure was some very beautiful areas. Accessible near Fred Meyer off Bridgeport and 67th, just around the corner there is a public access area.

Bottom right, a bend in the creek has allowed for a collecting area of debris. I noticed an excess of litter floating, I hope we can get this place cleaned up!
Bottom left, I noticed a nice looking "waterfall" a log had fallen over the water flows over and looks prettty cool over a short drop. If you look closely, you can see a black line that is a littered TIRE top center of the frame. I counted over 10 tires in plain view while hiking down Chambers Creek.

Clean Beach Group Helps PlayGround By the Sound

On September 20-25, 2011 a small army of untrained but enthusiastic volunteers will come together on an empty piece of land in the North Meadow of the Chambers Creek Properties, in University Place, Washington and in less than a week, build the best regional playground in west Pierce County. The playground was designed using the ideas and imagination of 1000+ elementary school children in the community.

It is being funded from grants and community donations, and volunteers will build it. Two professional playground consultants and twenty volunteer construction captains will oversee quality and lead the hundreds of volunteer on the site each day. A food committee will provide food for the volunteers and a childcare committee will take care of children to allow their parents to participate.

Individuals and groups can volunteer for morning, afternoon and evening shifts. You can volunteer for one shift, one day or all week. Clean Beach Group will be filling out a Group volunteer sheet soon, please help and volunteer with us! Skilled and unskilled worker are welcome. There is a job for everyone.

This regional public playground is designed to educate and stimulate a child’s imagination while providing fun outdoor activity and physical exercise for children ages 2-12. Various structures on the playground will teach children about the unique Puget Sound environment they can view and experience when they visit the Chambers Creek Properties.

Headed to clean Along Chambers Creek Rd Today!!

We're headed down to Chambers Bay Golf Course area, the Chambers Creek Properties own Chambers CREEK Road. We'll be starting from the top of the hill at the stop sign at the intersection of grandview drive and Chambers Creek Rd, and 67th St W. (According to google maps.) Below is a map and Illistration of where we'll start and where the litter is. We'll be continuing down the hill til daylight runs out. Getting a bit of a late start today, but still ready to get to it and clean up some pollution! The UP festival in University Place, Washington is today we might go check that out too. Only after a shower of course!

Oh yeah, One more thing!

Our own Blaine Valadez made the first ever CBG clean beach group T shirt! We'll get some real ones some day. Maybe you'll see it while we're cleaning litter sometime.

Recycling Event @ Up Festival August 6

A nonprofit recycling company is accepting old appliances at the UP festival, in University Place, Washington on August 6, 10am to 5pm

Clean Beach Group's director Blaine Valadez plans to walk chambers creek hill this day and collect as many bags of litter as he can, attempting to separate glass and plastic bottles from trash! We'll keep you updated on how it goes!

Chambers Creek Clean Up, A Huge success with 60 Lbs of Litter Collected!

CBG rocked chambers creek 7/30 starting at around 11am.

We met at the Trail head entrance, and picked up trash around the trails down to the water.... and everywhere on the beach! We collected 60 lbs of trash. We did notice a TON of trash along Chambers Creek Road, though.

The LONG AWAITED 1st ever CBG beach clean up is Tomorrow @ Titlow Beach. 12pm :)

We'd love to see your smiling face even just to say hello. We'll be scouring the beach/park area for around an hour or so, grabbing all the litter we see.
We'll have fresh fruit & water if anyone needs refreshments. Tomorrows forecast calls for a high temp of only 66 degrees, so bring a jacket just in case!
