Ingredients

4oz butter (at room temperature)

4oz caster sugar

1 teaspoon of bicarb

3 rather generous teaspoons of ground ginger

7-8oz plain flour

2.5 tablespoons of warmed golden syrup (warming the syrup is key because it binds the mix to make the dough)

200g good quality dark chocolate

Dr Oetker Polka Dots (or other sprinkles of your choice)

Method

Cream the butter and sugar, mix in the dry ingredients then add the warmed golden syrup until the mixture is a stiff dough.

Roll out the dough to about 5mm thick and cut into rounds of about 10cm across.

Cook the gingerbread rounds for about 10 minutes at 180degrees, then leave to cool.

Melt the chocolate in a bowl over simmering water then leave for a minute or two to cool a little.

Dip the gingerbread rounds into the chocolate until they are half covered, then place on baking parchment or greaseproof paper.

Finally, sprinkle with Polka Dots and leave until the chocolate is set, if you can wait that long.

David Grove recognised that therapeutic discourse has its own inherent grammar and syntax. He developed conditions that achieved a faithful accuracy between the therapist’s questions and the information contained in the traumatic event. The result was Clean Language. His process was Information Centred. Clean Language questions develop Epistemological Metaphors that access the deep structure of the client’s original experience, often imperceptible or missed in conventional therapies. The deep structure is accessed through the development of Epistemological Metaphors. Epistemology asks the question, “How do you know what you know”? David and Cei developed these principles that utilise primary process language to address a broad spectrum of psychological issues. The language used during a therapeutic intervention determines the efficiency for the ‘trans-formative’ change. “You are only as good as your next question and as successful as your last”.

This interactive presentation will transport you into the “Presence of the Past” as Cei, who had the closest collaboration with David, focuses on two of his many innovations, Clean Language and Epistemological Metaphors.

Participants will leave with knowledge of how the application of these principles made their way into clinics; consulting rooms, hospitals and universities around the world over the last thirty five years.  You will be offered a lens through which you can observe the origins of deep structure questions and learn how to place a question with faithful accuracy.  You will identify how to be Information Centred and to be as good as your next question.

Cei Davies Linn’s partnership with David Grove, inventor of innovations such as Clean Language and Epistemological Metaphors, spanned three decades and closely involved her in the early evolution and development of his innovative work. Together they conducted workshops and retreats that included travelling to the four corners of the earth. Their collaboration also resulted in a series of training materials for professional counsellors. Later, on the recommendation of R.D. Laing with whom they occasionally co-presented, David and Cei also ran a retreat and seminar centre for ten years in Eldon, Missouri. Previously Cei has been a nursing sister and went on to hold the post of Senior Psychotherapist at St Andrew’s Hospital, Northampton. She currently lives and works in Northamptonshire.

Shelle Rose Charvet is known globally for her work with the LAB Profile®, a practical version of the NLP Meta Programs. In 2011 she and Michael Hall co-edited Innovations in NLP for a World in Challenging Times; bringing together 24 NLP writers and trainers from around the world, including Penny and James. She works with organizations to solve their persuasion challenges and to solve their difficult customer satisfaction issues. In 2010 she and her partner created a new company to improve understanding by melding NLP& LAB Profile®. So far they have produced their first Phone app, HusbandMotivator™ and are beta testing a tool to improve email communication, Libretta™. Shelle is lively, outspoken (okay – obnoxious) and daring. Penny Tompkins is co-developer of Symbolic Modelling which incorporates the Clean Language of David Grove, and has co-authored Metaphors in Mind: Transformation through Symbolic Modelling and a training DVD, A Strange and Strong Sensation.  Penny is a leader in the field of autogenic metaphor and systemic change, and has been a registered psychotherapist since 1993. She is a supervisor, coach in business, and international trainer.

James Lawley, co-author of Metaphors in Mind, is fascinated by the application of self-organising systems theory, modelling, metaphor and David Grove’s clean philosophy to individual, group and organisational evolution. The shift required is so radical it sometimes hurts his brain yet it gives him hope that undreamed of possibilities are just waiting to be discovered.

Clean Dance    

Combining ideas from Clean Space with ideas from Moshe Feldenkrais, systemic constellations, dance therapy and improvised comedy, we will be exploring emergent development in an enriched physical and relational environment.  While participants do not need a great deal of clean experience, the workshop will be experimental and participants will be expected to take responsibility for their emotional and physical well-being during the exercises.

Panning for Gold: A great Clean tool

In this session you will get introduced to The Gold Panning Model. Gewoon aan de slag developed this model to get a solid desired outcome from a (potential) sponsor.

Very often you have no more than 2 hours to get clear on your sponsor’s desired outcome and necessary conditions so you can write a proposal. Also, they want something from you as well: your input en expertise. How you can use Clean to do this, is shown is this simple and effective model.

Clean Steps

Someone observing a Clean Language session once remarked: ‘It’s like a dance’.  We will take that metaphor literally. Using CL, a simplified jive-like dance and the TaiChi process ‘pushhands’, we explore following and leading a partner as a metaphor for the interplay in coaching and therapy. You keep yourself safe.  Fun, not strenuous.  Involves respectful personal contact  – hand-on-hand/wrist.

• Increased awareness of own patterns around being clean or directive, through safe physical feedback from another person.
• Improved listening skills, by simultaneouslyexperiencing the other’s communication physically.

The principles required for developing Collective Trust and building Social Capital appear to closely match the impact of Cleanly Facilitating Groups. Caitlin explores how Clean Inquiry goes such a long way to developing the illusive quality of Collective Trust. The group will go on to consider different roles Clean could play in building Social Capital across our diverse worlds.

Case History: Clean Coaching doctoral project at the BBC. An exploration of the use of Clean Language & Emergent Knowledge by corporate coaches at the BBC

A case history of  Carol Wilson’s Doctorate at Middlesex University, exploring the practices of David Grove’s Clean Language and Emergent Knowledge, through the client work of 16 in-house coaches at the BBC. The coaches were trained in both sets of skills by Carol and returned accounts of their Clean sessions with in house clients over a period of 7 months.

Carol worked with David Grove from 2004-2007 to produce courses in Clean Language and Emergent Knowledge specifically tailored for coaches, and now provides open and corporate training.  Carol is co-founder with Sir John Whitmore of an international coaching consultancy, is a member of the Global Advisory Panel to the Association for Coaching, and has published many articles and several books.

Having run in the Autumn for a couple of years, the Conference is going to revert to its original May timing, and two conferences in six months being too much of a good thing, it is scheduled to return on 19 and 20 May 2012 – out of the way of the Olympics and certainly better priced!

Could You present at Clean Conference?

The Clean Conference, our annual showcase for the Clean Community’s many skills and talents, takes place in central London on 19 and 20 May 2012.  Could you be one of the presenters this year?  We are looking for experienced Clean facilitators who would like to lead a conference session of around 90 minutes in length.

Themes we’re especially interested in include Emergent Knowledge, embodied cognition, personal development, and new applications of Clean.
