As we head into the weekend, cleaning is likely the *least* exciting thing you have planned for a couple of days off. At least for me it is. But, that’s not to say there aren’t jobs that just have to get done to make sure we can have fun AT the zoo, instead of having our home look and smell like one.

If you know me, you know I hate to clean, so I do everything I can to ensure I’m using cleaning products, tools, and techniques that help me clean smarter and faster – not harder. This is why I’ve compiled a list of 7 innovative tools to help you get the work done. Isn’t it great when you don’t have to give cleaning 100% of your energy?

I’m always looking online to see what the latest buzzy cleaning tools and products are all about. Are they worth the hype or just a big waste? I’ve tested some products that I think are definitely worth the hype, so I’m going to share them with you to save you some precious time and energy this weekend.

Water Bottle Cleaning Brush for Sink

If you have water bottles galore in your home, consider getting one of these brushes. Many reusable bottles are not dishwasher safe (especially the double-walled insulated kind), and we need a solution to thoroughly clean these. I like this brush because it’s convenient and double sided, so it speeds through cleaning by getting the interior and exterior scrubbed simultaneously. The brush has suction cups that will stick to the side of your kitchen sink so your bottle brushes won’t be flip-flopping around. It also makes for a fun task your kids to participate in! Add some dish soap to your water bottle and then scrub sideways to clean and refresh your bottles.

Stove gap fillers

If you have a slide-in stove, you have probably experienced many cooking mishaps where crumbs, sauce, and spills fall between the gap between the counter and the stove itself. Once slid out, you see a number of mystery stains and dried crusty stuff that require a lot of effort to clean. This solution is quick and easy to install and top-rack dishwasher safe, too. Order the right size gap filler for your counter, choose the color you’d like, and apply it over a clean surface. Now, spills and crumbs will be prevented from getting into that pesky gap!

Silicone Sink Splash Protector

The area surrounding the kitchen sink faucet is a huge splash zone and is almost always guaranteed to be dirty. Plus, there’s soap and sponges, and the area often gets water buildup, leaving gunk and hard water behind. This sink splash guard is a great tool to keep that area clean and dry. You can cut the rubber ring to fit your faucet base, and it’s got a slight angle as well as channeling to help push water back into the sink (where it’s meant to be!) It elevates wet items like sponges for fast drying, but best of all, it’s easy to remove and rinse down, keeping your countertops in pristine condition.

Laptop Brush Cleaner

Let’s face it: we eat at our laptops more often than we’d like to admit. Crumbs explode all over the keyboard leaving tiny shards of meals past, which looks unappetizing but can also get in the way of the keys working properly. Further, dust can build up over time on the keyboard and other components. And your screen gets gunked up, too (thank you, dirty children’s hands). This little tool solves the issue of both a dirty screen and a dirty keyboard. Use the soft bristles to brush dust and debris out of the keyboard. When I do this, I like to stand the keyboard on its side to give the crumbs the benefit of gravity. Make sure to hold on tightly! The other side of the brush is used to clean the screen, but if you need something a little more heavy-duty, try the Maker’s Clean glass & electronics cloth, which is great for larger areas. Make sure your computer is OFF before you begin cleaning.

Blade Brush knife cleaner

Any good home chef will tell you two things: you always need more butter and never put a chef’s knife in the dishwasher. Handwashing a large chef’s knife can be a little risky because it’s easy to knick yourself. This brush looks like a mouth with bristly teeth and is a great way to safely slide a soapy blade into the bristles, clean the knife, and keep your hands protected at the same time. This tool works great for cutlery and smaller knives, too.

If you live with or are a man, you know the mess that comes from the clipping and shaving of facial hair. This cape is an ingenious solution to keep that pesky hair that flies all over the bathroom at bay. Simply don the cape, use suction cups to stick it to the mirror and clip away. When done, remove the cape and dump everything safely in the garbage without spilling.

Makeup brush cleaner and dryer

Dirty makeup brushes are such a pain! The right thing to do is to clean the brush after each use, and I don’t know about you, but this sounds like a lot of work for me. But, you don’t deposit a different color onto your skin, and you want to avoid cross-contaminate too. Dirty brushes can lead to breakouts, which we all want to prevent. I struggle to clean my brushes regularly because it’s such a to-do, but this little gadget makes it much easier. You add soap and water, apply to the brush, put the brush on the base, spin it in the liquid, spin it out of the liquid to speed up drying, and then allow to dry! It turns this tedious task into something more satisfying, and your kids can help with this one too (supervision required!)

If you’re ready to simplify your cleaning routine even further, pick up your favorites today and let me know how much time/effort you saved once you started implementing these products into your routine! I’d love to know which ones you plan to add to your cleaning arsenal.

Happy cleaning,

Washing the outside of your car is easy. You grab some soap and water, or better yet, you drive through a car wash and forget about it. But car interior cleaning is a much bigger job. We all eat in our cars, our kids eat in our cars, our pets get hair all over the seats. Basically, our cars can turn into a hazard zone pretty quickly.

That’s why I decided to share my tips on how to clean a car interior. Today we’re going to cover a list of the most common areas you should be cleaning in your car:

Clean your car’s floor mats

How to clean car carpets

How to clean inside car windows

How to clean car seats

Cleaning car consoles and doors

Eliminating car odors

A few years ago, I wrote an article outlining my favorite car cleaning tips and secrets. Now, I’m getting into the dirty details of what to clean in your car and how, plus some DIY cleaning solution recipes. So buckle up for my best car cleaning secrets and get to work on those fast-food wrappers and dust mites that have made your car their home.

Toss The Junk

One of my cleaning rules is that decluttering is the first step to cleaning. You can’t start cleaning car carpets or washing doors if you’re wading through a mountain of drive-thru takeout containers and dirty tissues. OK, so that’s an exaggeration (I hope), but you should still declutter first. Grab a garbage bag and recycling bin and get to work!

If you have other items in your car, remove them as well. This goes for bags, car seats, toys, blankets; anything that you aren’t going to clean and isn’t part of your car will just get in the way and make the cleaning process longer.

Clean Your Car Floor Mats

Floor mats are dark-colored, which means you usually don’t notice they’re dirty, but you are literally stepping on them every day. Car mats are caked in all the dirt from your shoes and everything else that goes in your car.

Take all your car mats out, and you’ll see just how gross they are. The first thing to do is give them a thorough shake to get all the loose grime and debris off. Next, grab a clean tarp to put them on. This way, they aren’t getting dirty again from the ground. If you don’t have a tarp, just lay out some clean garbage bags.

A vacuum is a great way to suck up even more dirt and grime before you wash. Then, spray your mats with a hose. Your mats should be looking pretty clean at this point, but to be thorough, mix warm water and a squirt of dish soap in a bucket. Scrub your mats clean and hang them to dry before returning them to the car.

Car Carpet Cleaning

Once you’re finished with your car mats, you can move on to the carpet. Take your vacuum cleaner and get all the dirt and dust out of there. Don’t forget to vacuum in all the corners and under the seats and pedals.

If your carpet is stained, it’s helpful to identify the stain before you treat it. Different stains respond to different cleaning solutions. With stain removers, you can make your own, or you can use a store-bought stain remover.

The Biokleen Bac-Out Stain & Odor Remover is an enzyme-based cleaner, and it’s great for carpet and upholstery cleaning. You can check out my blog Six Products for Effectively Removing Carpet and Upholstery Stains for more ideas.

Here’s my recipe for a great DIY carpet cleaner for your car:

One cup dish soap

One cup white vinegar

One cup club soda

Spray the stain until it is soaked and then let sit for 10 minutes then scrub.

Use the carpet cleaner of your choice on the rest of your carpet, scrubbing with a bristle brush. Allow to dry, and then vacuum one last time. And for more DIY cleaners, check out my 50 DIY Cleaning Recipes.

Car Window Cleaning

Before you come at me for making you scrub your car carpets, let me just say cleaning car windows is a breeze in comparison. A microfiber cloth is the best cloth to use for most cleaning jobs, but especially glass windows.

To clean car windows, you can use any store-bought glass cleaning solution or make your own. My favorite DIY window cleaner is:

One cup water

One cup white vinegar

One teaspoon cornstarch

Always start at the top of the window and work down to catch any drips and prevent streaks.

How to Clean Car Seats

How you clean your car seats will depend if they’re made of leather or cloth. If your seats are made of cloth, start by vacuuming each seat thoroughly. Get your vacuum into the seams and where the bottom of the seat meets the back. This is where all those chip crumbs that miss your mouth usually end up.

You can treat any stains with a store-bought or DIY stain remover. Once again, what product or solution you use will depend on what caused the stain. A spray-on upholstery cleaner should work for most stains.

Many of us guzzle coffee on our way to work in the morning, so one of the most common car seat stains is coffee. Here’s a DIY cleaner for coffee stains:

One cup white vinegar

Two cups of water

One teaspoon dish soap.

Remember, all stain solutions should be left to soak for about 10 minutes before scrubbing.

If you’re not working with stains, you can use any upholstery cleaner on cotton seats. Work the cleaner with a scrub brush, then wipe with a wet microfiber cloth to remove. And, of course, let dry.

If you have leather car seats, a vacuum crevice attachment is really helpful here. Use your vacuum thoroughly, especially around the stitching area of the leather. Then, wipe down with a commercial leather cleaner. If you want to go that extra mile, you can use a leather conditioner to make your leather seats look like new.

Cleaning Car Consoles and Doors

Car consoles and doors are often overlooked when cleaning cars, but they are both high-touch surfaces that need to be cleaned periodically. Keep your car doors open while cleaning doors, so any dirt falls outside of your car.

Most car doors are made from carpet and vinyl or leather. Use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe down every part of the door, including inside the pockets. You can use your damp microfiber cloth to tackle your console and gear shift too.

I don’t know about you, but my daughter’s juice, my tea, and Chad’s coffee often leak or spill in the bottom of the cup holder, and it’s pretty gross in there. If your cup holder is removable, you can soak it in a solution of warm water with a bit of dish soap. If not, make the same solution and use your microfiber cloth to clean inside and around the cupholder.

Eliminate Car Odors

Following all these steps to clean your car is an essential part of eliminating car odors, but sometimes you need some extra help in getting that lived-in car smell to disappear. Just like when you clean your fridge, you can use baking soda to prevent and eliminate odors.

After your car is dry, sprinkle a little baking soda over the carpet and cloth seats. Do not use baking soda on leather seats!! Leave this overnight and then vacuum in the morning.

Your car should smell fresh and clean, ready for you to start eating french fries and spilling coffee all over again.

Car Interior Cleaning Maintenance

Cleaning your car is a big task. Luckily, you don’t have to do this very often. How often you need to clean your car will depend on how often you eat in your car, if you have pets in your car, and if you have kids in your car.

Staying on top of the mess before it builds up can help you avoid cleaning your car too frequently. Throw out garbage daily, and spot treat stains as they happen. That being said, I hope that when you do have to clean your car, you know exactly what to do.

In these uncertain times, the cost of living seems to be rising with each passing day.

From groceries to gas, prices are soaring.

One area where you might not have noticed the increase in costs is cleaning supplies. The good news is, there are real, practical ways to save money while keeping your home clean and spotless. In this video, we’ll share some fantastic tips and strategies that can positively impact your wallet. And stay tuned until the end for our ultimate money-saving tip that could make a big difference in the long run.

1. Upcycle Containers

Finding containers that you can upcycle at home is a clever way to save money. Whether it’s repurposing spray bottles for DIY cleaning solutions or reusing plastic containers, sturdy cardboard boxes, or even cleaned-out candle jars, this practice can help you cut costs while reducing waste.

2. Proper Maintenance

We believe in investing in quality cleaning tools that last. But, maintaining these tools is equally crucial. Rinse them thoroughly after use, empty your vacuum regularly, and ensure your mop head is always clean. Taking care of your tools means they’ll perform efficiently for longer, saving you from the need to buy replacements.

3. Understand Your Home

Knowing your home inside out, including cabinet finishes, countertop materials, and appliance maintenance, can prevent costly repairs. By understanding the unique needs of your home, you can take better care of it, ensuring its longevity.

4. Off-Peak Appliance Use

Adjust the timing of your major appliance usage to off-peak electricity hours for your area. This simple tweak can significantly reduce your electricity costs, and it’s easy to set up with modern appliances that offer delayed start options.

5. Buy in Bulk (but wisely)

While we don’t advocate hoarding, there are savings to be had when you buy essential items in bulk, especially when they go on sale. Pay attention to price per unit, and make sure you’re purchasing quality products. Low-quality items may initially seem cheaper, but they often require more effort and product, costing you more in the long run.

6. DIY Cleaning Products

Making your own cleaning products is the ultimate money-saving hack. Simple recipes using common ingredients like dish soap, vinegar, and baking soda can be highly effective.
Vinegar is often hailed as a cleaning miracle worker.

It’s an inexpensive and readily available household item that many people swear by for its cleaning properties. But before you jump on the vinegar bandwagon and think it can clean absolutely everything as some online sources suggest, let’s decipher the truth from the myths.

As a cleaning expert, I’ve been sharing cleaning advice since 2011, and I’m here to provide the most current and reliable information based on research, experience, and expert contacts. In this article, we will explore the dos and don’ts of cleaning with vinegar and shed some light on what vinegar can and cannot clean effectively.

The Power of Vinegar in Cleaning

One of the primary reasons people love using vinegar for cleaning is its ability to degrease and deodorize. It’s an excellent choice for several cleaning tasks, and when used correctly, it can produce remarkable results. Let’s dive into some of the areas where vinegar shines.

1. Glass and Mirrors: Vinegar is fantastic for cleaning windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces. Its ability to cut through grease and leave streak-free results makes it a go-to choice for DIY glass cleaning. You can create a simple glass cleaning solution using equal parts water and white vinegar. Spray the solution on the surface, use a flatweave microfiber cloth, and wipe using an S-pattern for a flawless shine.

2. Stainless Steel Appliances: For removing fingerprints and smudges from stainless steel appliances, vinegar is your friend. Mix equal parts water and vinegar, apply it to the surface, and wipe with a flatweave microfiber cloth to eliminate those annoying smudges.

3. Deodorizing Your Drains: If your kitchen or bathroom drain has an unpleasant odor, you can use vinegar to help break down the smelly buildup. A simple method is to use vinegar in combination with baking soda. Sprinkle a cup of baking soda into the drain, followed by boiling vinegar. This causes a satisfying chemical reaction and can help freshen your drains.

4. Descaling Kettles and Coffee Makers: Vinegar is a superb descaler. If you notice a white, crusty buildup inside your kettle or coffee maker, you can use vinegar to remove it. For a kettle, fill it to the max fill line with vinegar, boil it, and then rinse thoroughly. For a coffee maker, fill the reservoir with vinegar, run it through several cycles, and then flush with water to remove any lingering vinegar taste.

5. Removing Hard Water Stains: Hard water stains can be a persistent problem in your bathroom and kitchen. Vinegar can help, but it requires some effort. For faucets and taps, you can use a bag filled with vinegar to soak away the buildup. To remove stains in toilets, you can douse the stained areas with vinegar and let it sit for a while, followed by scrubbing.

What Not to Clean with Vinegar

Now that we’ve explored the areas where vinegar can work its magic, let’s discuss some situations where you should avoid using vinegar:

1. Stone Countertops: Stone countertops, like granite or marble, don’t respond well to acids, including vinegar. Using vinegar on such surfaces can lead to etching, discoloration, and damage. It’s best to opt for a stone-specific cleaner to maintain the integrity of your countertops.

2. Hardwood Floors: Avoid using vinegar on hardwood floors. The acid in vinegar can harm the finish of your floors. Stick to a hardwood floor cleaner or simply use water and a bit of dish soap for a safe clean.

3. Pet Stains: While some recommend using vinegar to clean pet stains, it’s not the most effective solution. Enzyme-based pet stain removers are better suited for the job. They target the odor-causing proteins and molecules in pet stains, ensuring more efficient removal.

4. Laundry: Contrary to some beliefs, adding vinegar to your laundry is not as effective as you might think. Vinegar should be added at the rinse phase, which can be challenging with front-loading machines. Additionally, vinegar doesn’t provide the same benefits as laundry-specific products, such as Downy Rinse and Refresh.

Cleaning Floors: While vinegar can work well on tile, linoleum, and vinyl floors, it’s not suitable for hardwood or natural stone. Always consider the specific needs of your flooring material when choosing a cleaning solution.

Making Vinegar Smell More Tolerable

One common complaint about using vinegar for cleaning is its strong odor. If the smell of vinegar is a turn-off for you, here are a couple of tricks to make it more pleasant:

1. Essential Oils: Add 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil (e.g., peppermint or orange) to vinegar. This will not only mask the vinegar smell but also add a pleasant fragrance to your cleaning solution.

2. Citrus-Infused Vinegar: Collect citrus fruit peels, such as orange, lemon, or lime, and place them in a mason jar. Fill the jar with vinegar and let it sit in a dark area for three weeks. Strain the vinegar to remove the peels. The result is a citrus-scented vinegar that is both potent and effective for cleaning.

Vinegar is indeed a versatile and powerful cleaning agent when used in the right context.

It can tackle various cleaning tasks, from glass and stainless steel to descaling kettles and coffee makers. However, it’s crucial to understand where vinegar should not be used to avoid damaging surfaces or compromising cleaning effectiveness. By following these guidelines and making the vinegar smell more tolerable, you can maximize the benefits of this household staple in your cleaning routine.

If you’ve encountered cleaning misinformation online, please share your experiences and insights in the comments section below.

Let’s help each other make informed and effective cleaning choices!

Soap scum is a common bathroom nuisance. The good news is, you don’t need expensive products to tackle it. We’ve got simple and inexpensive DIY solutions that will make your bathroom sparkle.

Understanding Soap Scum: Before we get into the DIY solutions, it’s essential to understand what soap scum is. Soap scum is a blend of soap residue, body oils, dead skin cells, and hard water minerals that accumulate on bathroom surfaces. It forms when water splashes and clings to these substances, leaving a textured, greyish, or slightly brown residue. You can identify it by touch – if your bathroom surface doesn’t feel perfectly smooth, you likely have soap scum.

The Right Tools and Products: To combat soap scum effectively without damaging your bathroom surfaces, you’ll need the right tools and products. Choose a non-scratching tool and use safe-for-surface products. If you have glass and ceramic tiles like I do, white vinegar is your go-to solution. However, avoid using vinegar on natural stone surfaces as it can harm them.

DIY Soap Scum Busters: Now, let’s explore some DIY recipes that will help you banish soap scum from your bathroom:

1. Dish Soap and Vinegar Soap Scum Buster:

Mix equal parts white vinegar and dish soap in a spray bottle.

Apply the mixture to the affected surfaces (glass and tile).

Let it sit for a minute or two to work its magic.

Scrub using an S pattern with a non-scratching tool.

Rinse thoroughly.

2. Extra Strength Vinegar for Hard Water: If you have hard water stains, consider using extra strength vinegar (6-10% acidic acid) instead of regular white vinegar. Be sure to wear gloves, protect your eyes, and ventilate the area.

3. Baking Soda and Dish Soap Paste:

Combine equal parts baking soda and dish soap to create a paste.

Apply the paste with a sponge using the S pattern.

Let it sit for a minute or two, then scrub gently.

Rinse thoroughly, especially on glass surfaces.

Prevent Soap Scum Buildup: Prevention is the key to reducing soap scum in your bathroom. Follow these tips:

1. Ventilation: Turn on your bathroom fan during and after a shower for at least 30 minutes to reduce moisture buildup. Alternatively, open a window to promote air circulation.

2. Squeegee After Each Use: Keep a squeegee in your shower and use it to remove excess water from walls and floors after each shower or bath. This simple habit can significantly prevent soap scum buildup.

3. Daily Shower Spray: Mix equal parts water and white vinegar, adding 20 drops of tea tree essential oil. Keep this solution in a spray bottle in your shower and spritz the walls and floor after each use. This helps prevent soap scum and hard water stains.

Conclusion: Soap scum may be a common bathroom challenge, but with the right tools, products, and preventive measures, you can keep it at bay. Whether you choose one of our DIY solutions or adopt preventive practices, your bathroom will stay sparkling clean and soap scum-free. Let us know in the comments below how frequently you clean your shower and if soap scum is a recurring issue for you.

Here are some fantastic cleaning hacks that not only save you time but also help you keep more money in your wallet. I know cleaning can be a drag, and we’re all trying to be more budget-conscious, especially during these challenging times. So, I’ve put together this video to share some of my favourite cost-effective cleaning solutions.

1. Homemade All-Purpose Cleaner

The star of my cleaning show is undoubtedly the all-purpose cleaner. It can handle just about any surface in your home, and you won’t believe how simple and cost-effective it is to make. Forget about those pricey store-bought cleaners! Just mix half a teaspoon of dish soap with two cups of water. This DIY solution works like a charm, and it’s gentle yet effective on surfaces. I whip up a batch about twice a week because, let’s face it, I go through a lot of it. And every time I do, I can’t help but think about how much money I’m saving.

2. DIY Glass Cleaner

Why splurge on commercial glass cleaners when you can make your own at a fraction of the cost? I’ve been shouting this from the rooftops—vinegar and water are all you need! It’s a straightforward recipe: equal parts water and vinegar. Mix them up, spray on your glass, and wipe it clean. Your windows will look stunning, and you’ll have saved a significant amount of money.

3. Baking Soda vs. Magic Erasers

Now, let’s talk about Magic Erasers. Some people swear by them, but I’ve found an equally effective and budget-friendly alternative—baking soda. It can tackle many of the same cleaning tasks as a Magic Eraser, and it’s a fraction of the cost. Just dampen the surface you want to clean, sprinkle a bit of baking soda, and scrub using a cleaning cloth or microfiber cloth. As always, be sure to test it in a hidden area first to avoid any potential damage. Baking soda is a champ at removing marks, scuffs, and soap scum.

4. Repurpose Your Old Toothbrush

Don’t throw away those old toothbrushes just yet! They can be invaluable cleaning tools for various tasks around the house. While they can’t do it all, toothbrushes are perfect for tight spots in the kitchen, bathroom, and even your car. Keep a separate one for bathroom cleaning to reach into toilet hinges and those tricky tub corners. Your old toothbrush can also tackle dust in tight spaces. So, instead of tossing them, save your old toothbrushes for their cleaning superpowers.

5. High-Dusting Made Easy

Say goodbye to expensive high-dusting tools or disposable options. You can achieve the same results using a mop pole and a microfiber cloth. Just flip the cloth over, use an elastic band to secure it, and you’ve got what I like to call the “cleaning ghost.” This DIY solution is perfect for reaching high places like the tops of doors, corners, and light fixtures. It’s also fantastic for dusting baseboards without bending down or for those with mobility issues.

6. Budget-Friendly Stainless Steel Polish

Lastly, let’s talk about stainless steel polish. Save your money on expensive stainless steel cleaners because the secret is simple—mineral oil. First, clean your stainless steel surfaces with soap and water or a vinegar-water solution. Always wipe in the direction of the grain to avoid streaks. Then, apply a small amount of mineral oil on a paper towel (about the size of a nickel). Rub it onto your stainless steel surfaces in the direction of the grain. It might appear patchy at first, but as you work it in section by section, it provides a stunning high polish that also helps prevent fingerprints. It’s cost-effective and incredibly effective!

Cleaning doesn’t have to be a chore that drains your time and money. With these budget-friendly cleaning hacks, you can make your own cleaning solutions, achieve sparkling glass and stainless steel, and put those old toothbrushes to work. You’ll be amazed at the results and how much money you can save along the way.

Before we wrap up, I’d love to hear from you.

What are you doing to save money at home right now?

We’re all looking for ways to make our money go further, so share your tips in the comments below.

As for me, I’ve switched to a more budget-friendly grocery store and source my produce from a local farm, which has significantly cut my grocery bills.

Thanks for watching, and remember, cleaning on a budget doesn’t mean sacrificing quality!

Today I want to talk about something that’s become an essential part of my life—smart money management. Whether it’s because of the ever-increasing cost of living or simply discovering better alternatives, there are a lot of items that I’ve consciously removed from my shopping list.

In this blog post, I’ll share with you some of the things I no longer buy and explain why these changes have made sense for my wallet and my lifestyle.

1. Premium Groceries: Gone are the days of exclusively shopping at premium grocery stores. While I still appreciate quality produce and specialty items, I’ve transitioned to discount grocers for everyday essentials. The savings can be substantial, and I reserve visits to the high-end stores for select items.

2. Paper Napkins: Disposable paper napkins are a waste of resources and money. I’ve replaced them with reusable cloth napkins—they’re eco-friendly and save me from constantly restocking disposable options.

3. Disposable Razors: Around five or six years ago, I made the switch to a high-quality, reusable razor blade. Not only does it provide a superior shaving experience, but it also reduces waste and saves me money in the long run.

4. Candles: Candles can be expensive, and their strong scents can overwhelm a space. Safety is another concern, especially with a little one at home. I’ve opted for LED candles, which offer ambiance without the fire hazard.

5. Fake Plants and Flowers: Fake plants and flowers might seem like low-maintenance decor options, but I find them uninspiring and environmentally unfriendly. I prefer the real deal, as they add life and freshness to my home.

6. Extended Warranties: Extended warranties are often pushed when making purchases, but for many everyday items, they’re unnecessary. I skip these offers and rely on the manufacturer’s warranty or my own care of the product.

7. Brand New Kids’ Clothes: Kids grow quickly, and their clothes are prone to stains and wear. Rather than buying new, I source hand-me-downs from friends and online marketplaces. Secondhand shops are also a great resource for affordable children’s clothing.

8. Retail Therapy: Boredom buying used to be a temptation, especially during the pandemic. To combat this, I’ve adopted a “fill the cart and mull it over” strategy. This approach helps me make more considered purchases and avoid impulsive spending.

9. Wrapping Supplies: Gift wrapping can be wasteful, so I’ve embraced a greener approach. I keep reusable tissue paper, gift bags, and boxes from received gifts on hand, reducing the need to purchase new wrapping supplies.

10. Seasonal Decor: Rather than splurging on seasonal decor items that quickly lose their appeal, I invest in timeless pieces and practical furnishings that can be enjoyed year-round. It’s a money-saving and clutter-reducing approach.

11. Makeup Remover Wipes: Makeup remover wipes are convenient but wasteful. I’ve switched to reusable facecloths, which are both eco-friendly and cost-effective. They effectively remove makeup and can be washed and reused.

12. Air Fresheners: Air fresheners, candles, and sprays can mask odors but don’t address the root cause. I rely on plants, open windows, and an air purifier to keep my home smelling fresh naturally.

13. Fabric Softener and Dryer Sheets: I’ve replaced fabric softener with fabric rinse, which is more efficient and requires less product. Dryer balls are another eco-friendly alternative to traditional dryer sheets.

14. Souvenirs: Souvenirs, while sentimental, often end up as clutter. I’ve shifted my perspective on buying things for family and friends when I travel. Instead, I focus on capturing memories with photos and letting go of the need to bring back physical tokens.

15. Craft Kits: Craft kits—if you’re into that kind of thing—can be expensive, and they limit creativity. Instead, I encourage imaginative crafting with basic supplies. It’s cost-effective and allows for endless possibilities.

Conclusion: Making these changes to my shopping habits has saved me money and reduced waste and clutter in my life. Focusing on what truly matters and embracing reusable and sustainable alternatives, I’ve found a more mindful and budget-conscious way of living. What are some items you’ve decided to stop buying, and why? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and let’s inspire each other to make smart money moves. Thanks for reading, and until next time!

I’m excited to bring you a two-year review of the Dyson V15 Detect.

Remember when I unboxed and reviewed it two years ago? Well, it’s time to check in and see how it’s held up with real-world use. So, grab a comfy seat, because we’re diving deep into the world of Dyson vacuum cleaners!

Battery Life: A Game Changer

Let’s kick things off with the topic on everyone’s mind: battery life. When transitioning to a cordless vacuum, many worry about battery longevity. But here’s the deal – technology has come a long way since the early Dyson models like the V6 and V8. These old models had limited battery life, but times have changed.

The Dyson V15 Detect comes with swappable batteries, and each holds up to a whopping 60 minutes of charge. I’ve never run out of juice while cleaning my 2800 square foot bungalow, even when covering both levels. With a spare battery, I can vacuum for up to two hours. In reality, most of us won’t need that much vacuuming time, so no worries about running out of power.

Suction That Stands the Test of Time

Now, let’s talk suction. Many vacuums lose their power over time, leaving you frustrated with incomplete cleaning. Not the V15 Detect! After two years of use, the suction remains top-notch. It effortlessly picks up dirt, dust, and pet hair in a single pass. No need to go over the same spot repeatedly – it gets the job done.

Filtration: Clean Air, No Compromises

One standout feature is the washable filter. Cleaning it is a breeze – just rinse it under tap water and let it dry for 24 hours. This easy maintenance keeps the air in your home clean and your vacuum performing at its best. Other vacuums with non-washable filters can be a pain to maintain and replace.

The Laser Slim Fluffy Head: A Game Changer

Now, let’s talk about the laser slim fluffy head. When I first heard about this, I thought it sounded gimmicky. But after trying it, I can’t imagine vacuuming without it. This tool is designed for hard floors and uses a laser to illuminate dirt and debris. It reveals hidden dust and leaves your floors spotless. It’s like glow-in-the-dark vacuuming, and it’s incredibly satisfying!

The Anti-Tangle Screw Tool: Say Goodbye to Hair Clogs

The Dyson V15 Detect introduced the anti-tangle screw tool, and it’s a game-changer for pet owners or anyone with long hair. This tool prevents hair and debris from clogging the brush roll. It’s fascinating to watch it in action – hair and string get propelled right into the bin instead of causing tangles. No more tedious cleaning of tangled messes in your vacuum!

The Piezo Sensor: Smart Cleaning

The V15 Detect features a Piezo sensor that listens to the size of particles being vacuumed. It provides real-time feedback on your cleaning progress, with visual representations on the screen. It’s like having a personal cleaning coach, helping you focus on dirtier areas and saving battery life by optimizing cleaning intensity.

User-Generated Clogs: The Only Hiccup

The main issue I’ve encountered with this vacuum is entirely user-generated. Occasionally, I vacuum up items like plastic, paperclips, or even popcorn – yes, popcorn. When the vacuum detects a clog, it pulses and displays an alert on the screen. It’s incredibly helpful and tells you exactly what’s wrong and how to fix it. Most of the time, a quick inspection and removal of the blockage do the trick.

Tools Galore: Handy Attachments

The Dyson V15 Detect comes with an array of useful tools, including:

Soft dusting brush

Heavy-duty dirt brush

Angled combo tool

Crevice tool

These tools make it versatile and efficient for various cleaning tasks. They’re especially handy for getting into tight corners, cleaning upholstery, or reaching crevices.

The Trigger: Love It or Not

One polarizing aspect is the trigger operation. Some find it comfortable, while others, especially those with mobility issues, may find it taxing. A push-button on/off system would be more user-friendly for some, and Dyson has introduced this in newer models.

Bin Size: A Matter of Preference

The V15 Detect has a bin size of less than a liter, which some may find small. Dyson has addressed this in newer models, like the Gen 5, which boasts a larger bin capacity of a liter. The bin size is a matter of personal preference, but both models offer excellent cleaning performance.

Dyson’s Constant Innovation

Dyson never stops innovating. They listen to user feedback and continually improve their products. The Gen 5, for instance, introduces a push-button system, HEPA filtration, and a larger bin size. It’s a testament to Dyson’s commitment to providing the best vacuuming experience.

Conclusion: A Happy User After Two Years

Two years with the Dyson V15 Detect, and I’m still in love with it. It’s been a reliable workhorse, maintaining excellent suction and making cleaning a breeze. I can confidently say that Dyson vacuums are worth the investment for their durability and performance.

But remember, the right vacuum for you depends on your specific needs. If you’re intrigued by the V15 Detect, I’d also recommend checking out Dyson’s latest models, like the Gen 5, to see if they offer the features you desire.

I hope this review has been helpful, and I’d love to hear about your vacuum experiences and preferences. Feel free to share in the comments below!

Today we’re embarking on an exciting journey into the world of fabric care labels. You know, those little tags on your clothes that often look like a cryptic language we’d rather ignore? Well, today, we’re decoding the laundry care symbols, and by the end of all this, you’ll be fluent in the language of laundranese.

Let’s dive right in!

A Universal Language

Laundry care symbols are a global standard. No matter where you are in the world, you’ll find the same shapes or symbols on laundry tags, and they’re always in the same order from left to right. Once you grasp these basics, you’ll be able to decipher almost any garment’s care label.

So, here’s the lineup from left to right: Wash Tub (washing), Triangle (bleaching), Iron (ironing), Circle (dry cleaning), and Square (drying). These symbols are your roadmap to proper garment care.

Dots and Lines: Temperature and Delicacy

Ever wondered what those dots and lines mean? They provide crucial information about temperature and delicacy. Let’s start with the wash tub. You might see either numbers or dots inside it, and they indicate the same thing.

Numbers are in Celsius, and they represent the wash temperature: 30°C for cold, 40°C for warm, and 50°C for hot. The dots match this pattern: one dot for cold, two dots for warm, and three dots for hot. If you see more dots, well, that’s a garment that’s really been through the wringer!

Under the wash tub, you might spot lines. No lines mean a normal cycle, one line means a permanent press cycle, and two lines mean a gentle cycle. Remember, more dots mean hotter temperatures, and more lines mean gentler treatment. And if there’s an X through it, simply avoid that action.

Hand Washing and No Twisting

Now, if you see a wash tub with a hand in it, that means you should hand wash the garment. And if you come across what looks like a hard candy with a line through it, it’s not about rewarding yourself with treats – it’s a reminder not to wring or twist your garment while hand washing. Instead, rinse and gently press it against the wash basin to remove excess water.

Bleaching: Triangle Power

The triangle symbolizes bleaching. An open triangle means you can use any bleach you prefer, whether it’s chlorine bleach or the gentler oxygen bleach. If you see two diagonal lines through the triangle, it’s a sign to use oxygen bleach only, not chlorine bleach. And if there’s an X through the triangle, stay far away from bleach.

Drying: Square with Circle Inside

The square with a circle inside indicates drying. Similar to washing, you’ll notice dots that signify the drying temperature. One dot for low heat, two dots for medium heat, and three or six dots for high heat. Lines underneath represent the type of cycle: one line for permanent press and two lines for gentle.

Hang Dry or Air Dry

Now, when it comes to hang drying or air drying, you’ll see a square without a circle inside. Different symbols here indicate different methods:

A square with three vertical lines means drip dry or hang dry.

A square with a saggy middle, resembling a round envelope, indicates line drying.

A square with two diagonal lines means dry the item in the shade.

A square with one horizontal line tells you to lay the item flat to dry.

Ironing: No Guesswork

If you’re one of those rare souls who still iron their clothes (kudos to you!), the iron symbol makes life easy. The dots inside it represent the ironing temperature. Start with the lowest heat (one dot), move to medium (two dots), and finish with the highest heat (three dots).

And if you see little steam lines coming out of the iron, it’s safe to use steam on the garment. If there’s an X through the iron, well, you know what that means – no ironing required!

Conclusion and Free Printable

Congratulations, laundry pro! You’ve just unlocked the secrets of laundry care symbols. Understanding these symbols will help you care for your clothes better, extending their life and saving you money. And remember, you can get a free printable laundry symbols chart HERE!

So, the next time you’re faced with a fabric care label, don’t shy away. Decode it, care for your clothes, and make laundry a breeze. Thanks for watching, and until next time, keep those garments looking fresh!
