It’s safe to say that Wyclef Jean is a pretty prominent figure in Haiti; not only does the Haiti native have his face planted on billboards for cell phones, but he is well known for his Yéle Haiti Foundation that works closely with the hard-working people that live within the volatile country. As of today, there is no solid commitment by Wyclef to run for president, but he is seriously considering making a move to be the leader of Haiti for the next five years. Wyclef’s close friend Eric Jean-Jaques claims that the musician meets the legal qualifications required to run and may declare his intent to gain the presidency as early as the first week of August. We wish Wyclef the best of luck while campaigning for more sustainable housing and employment for his countrymen, but we think a guaranteed Fugees reunion and follow up album on it’s own would get him more than enough votes to beat the other guy.

Much has been said about Facebook and the approach they have taken towards privacy; users have been so unsatisfied with the way the social networking site handles it’s database that it was recently rated at the same level of user satisfaction as the IRS and incompetent airline companies. Facebook has practically reconstructed social norms and created a candy store equivalent for online creeping, so the brave souls over at Gawker decided to flip the script and stalk Facebook CEO and privacy antagonist Mark Zuckerberg for one weekend over in Silicon Valley. Zuckerberg was photographed extensively and unknowingly while running around Palo Alto in Adidas sandals and generally behaving nothing like someone who is worth billions of dollars. For a man who once said that “the age of privacy is over”, it’s no surprise that a public figure like Zuckerberg would end up being followed for an entire weekend, even if he looks and acts just like the rest of us (aside from the the downmarket sandals).

Talk about really preserving those memories. Panasonic announced yesterday that the first consumer 3D Camcorder named HDC-SDT750 will hit the shelves this October.

With a price tag of $ 1,399.95, the camera will come with a lens that can shoot images from both the left and right eye at the same time, and record them at 960 x 1800 pixels. It will also have five built-in microphones to record multi-directional sounds.

There is just one tiny limitation to it though. While the HDC-SDT750 will come with its own video editing software that will let users edit and burn 3D images into Blu-Ray discs and DVDs, the videos will have to be converted into 2D before they can be uploaded on the Internet.

In closing, we here at Clement & Co. would just like to express just how grateful we are for this new gadget. For one thing, we can finally capture and relive our awesome memories in as much detail as possible. And for another, we are so thankful that this camcorder wasn’t invented yet during those times when our alcohol tolerance was low and our friends oh so diligently captured our drunk and wasted moments on tape. We know better now.

Here’s something we should all warn our great-great grandchildren about: an asteroid named 1999 RQ36 may slam into Earth in the year 2182.

1999 RQ36 is about 1800 feet long and has the capacity to wipe out humans from the face of the Earth in a manner similar to what happened to dinosaurs. (Yikes.)

Granted, the possibilities of it actually hitting our planet are not that high (one in a thousand,) scientists are still closely tracking the asteroid’s movements, as what they’ve been doing since its discovery in 1999.

Learning about the news, we couldn’t help but imagine ways on how to obliterate that big chunk of space rock. Can we vaporize it with an uber hi-tech weapon? Maybe Earth can send someone heroic to blow the thing up? And just as Leaving on a Jet Plane by Chantal Kreviazuk started swelling up in our heads, we stopped ourselves and remembered that the Mayan calendar indicates that the world will hit its end in 2012.

So until we survive that end of the world prophecy, we’ve decided to leave all the asteroid worries to the scientists.

The entire process of traveling by plane is not very fun. From going through security to waiting at the gate only to find yourself waiting once again to board the plane is not enough to compensate for that brief rush of adrenaline when the plane takes off. We’re not alone in this school of thought, which is why the folks at Continental Airlines in Houston may have found a way to make going through the airport more convenient with the adoption of self-boarding. Not only does this make traveling much less tedious, but the TSA claims that it does not have an impact on airport security since all of that was taken care of with the line you stood in an hour for. Self-boarding has been practiced by airlines around the world and would make Continental the first American company to have the system implemented. Our next hope involves airlines being able to quarantine babies who cry nonstop during flights, but would make the world too perfect.

It seems that students nowadays have become so used to the thought of the top being the best that they failed to see that the said notion doesn’t apply to search engine results.

A paper published in the International Journal of Communication revealed that in doing research, most students automatically click on the first generated result without so much as a second though on the source’s credibility. Out of the 102 college freshmen that were included in the study, only 10 percent acknowledge the author or the author’s credentials, while zero of the students actually verified the qualifications of their sources.

The solution that was offered to this problem fell on the educators. It was suggested that professors should inform students about the websites that are credible and the ones that are not. Still though, we think that students are already being spoon-fed with enough stuff and teaching them to scroll down further in the search page shouldn’t be part of the curriculum.

Of course what a vehicle looks like matters to us. We wouldn’t want our cars to be teased and bullied by other autos on the road now, would we? And while we totally support “green” cars and their efforts to lessen their carbon footprints on the planet, we think that some of them aren’t as sleek as they should be, looks wise. (*cough* Prius.)

But then the Nissan Leaf enters the scene and proves that it’s possible for a car to be a tree-hugger and a cutie at the same time.

Of course, it’s not all about looks. Under the hood, the Leaf has about 107 horsepower and 208 pound-feet of torque with a top speed nearing 90 mph. Not bad for a city car whose range reaches a hundred miles per charge. Sure, it’s not a bad ass race car, but then again, people who opt for electric cars aren’t in it for the freeway chases, anyway.

Sticker price is a little over thirty grand and government rebates and incentives bring the costs down to around $25,000.

Just in case you’re wondering, no, we’re not paid cheerleaders or sponsors of the Nissan Leaf; we just think it’s cute, that’s all. Besides, we’d hate to see the 16,300 people who already reserved a lease on the car be disappointed.

I’ve been on a bad girl streak lately. First, it’s my dirty dancing, err, “nerdy one night stand” that I was so proud of and now I find myself embroiled in an Internet fiasco with sexual connotations. Now before you go running and telling all your friends (yes, I know you want to) let me just start from the beginning.

The same “friend” that I had my one one night stand with decided that he needed to extend our one night tryst by texting me two days after “the incident” (I refuse to call it sex no matter what you say). He was at work, and he was bored, so naturally he decided to tell me what he enjoyed about “the incident”. At first I was a bit annoyed, I mean, do bad girls entertain the texts of their past jumpoffs? I think NOT! But the more I read, the more he reeled me in. So of course, I dove in head first.

Texts about the “incident” turned into texts about what he wants to do next time and in no time, we’ve crossed the junction of friendly sexting to a request for nudes. Of course I totally pretended that I don’t snap photos of that nature (untrue), but of course after much goading (actually very little) I was sending him picture after picture of my most prized possessions. I actually didn’t feel like it was such a big deal, I mean he’s already seen everything.

It became a big deal when I logged on to my tumblr and found my photos reblogged by numerous hipsters and weirdos. My worst nightmare has come true. I mean, let’s face it, nude photos of a random nobody don’t really get as much traction as let’s say, nude photos of Cassie or Vanessa Hudgens. However, as my pictures spread across the Interweb my world started to crumble. Of course I yelled and screamed at my former one night stand, but the damage was done. I wish I had the power to erase those pictures from everyone’s browser history, and in turn, my memory. Let this be a lesson to all you young gals out there, don’t ever have a one night stand with a dude that knows how to press an “Upload” button.
