Branded Entertainment: Some Brands Flock to Web Series - Advertising Age - Madison+Vine: Digital Entertainment

The New York Times - Renewed Interest in Financing Original Web Shows
After a protracted drought, money is trickling back into the professional Web video industry. So-called branded entertainment deals like the one by Ikea are becoming more common, helping to nourish new programming. And venture capital firms are also paying new attention to the industry. My Damn Channel, which distributes “Easy to Assemble,” will announce a $4.4 million infusion of financing on Monday, joining companies like Blip.tv and Machinima in raising money this year.

New TeeVee - My Damn Channel Blessed With $4.4M
This announcement coincides with the site’s third anniversary, as well as the launch of a new slate of shows, which includes promotional shorts for the Paramount content Dinner for Schmucks, a yet-to-be-premiered series by former Colbert Report staffer Mark Malkoff, and original web content to support the Adult Swim launch of Childrens’ Hospital. In addition, Easy to Assemble returns this fall with even more celebrity appearances (including Patricia Heaton and Fred Willard) and plenty of Swedish accents

Tubefilter - My Damn Channel Tacks On $4.4M, Investors Bullish Again on Web Series
My Damn Channel says it plans to add advertising sales and business development staff as it grows out it original content offerings. Those offerings have already branched out from its early days of hits web series like You Suck at Photoshop and Wainy Days, and into branded entertainment series like IKEA-backed Easy to Assemble (and Sparhüsen) and Trident-sponsored The Webventures of Justin & Alden along with partnering with traditional studios like Fox Television Studios.

Beet.TV: MyDamnChannel.com Gets Venture Round of $4.4 Million
MyDamnChannel.com, the online video entertainment producer, has received a $4.4 million B round of venture funding, the company announced today.

paidContent - The Morning Lowdown 08.09.10
After the recession caused a pullback in funding original online video production and distribution, the spigots appear to be opening again: case in point, My Damn Channel, whose shows include Easy to Assemble, will announce a $4.4 million funding

Huffington Post - MyDamnChannel.com Gets Venture Round of $4.4 Million
The round is being lead by Intuitive Venture Capital. The proceeds will allow the company to expand its staff and operations.
Daisy recently caught up with CEO Rob Barnett at the NAPTE LAfest and we have republished the interview today.

My Damn Channel, an online distributor of original programming, on Monday announced it has closed a $4.4 million financing led by Intuitive Venture Partners.

Additional funding came from the company's previous investors, including Okapi Venture Capital and Sunshine Wireless Company.

The company, run by founder/CEO Rob Barnett and co-founder/COO, Warren Chao, said it will also launch premium paid programming in the fourth quarter of this year. Details are expected to be announced soon.

With its new funding, My Damn Channel is adding sales and business development personnel.

MediaPost - Web Video Pros Aiming Lower
“What makes the current round of interest more compelling is the realization in the industry that Web video will not supplant television viewing anytime soon, just complement it,” adds The Times. “That partly explains why the companies have stopped labeling themselves ‘TV on the Internet.’”

My Damn Channel, an online site which features professionally produced, humorous and other video content, announced a $4.4M funding round today. The new funding was led by Intuitive Venture Partners, and also included prior investors Okapi Venture Capital and Sunshine Wireless Company. My Damn Channel is headed by Rob Barnett, who was last at MTV, VH1, and CBS, and Warren Chao, formerly a VC at Intel Capital, and who also has served at TV Guide and Wilson Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati. The firm also has operations in New York. The firm last raised funding way back in 2007.

“You’re in the very early days of this business,” said Rob Barnett, the chief executive at My Damn Channel, which focuses on comedy and music video. “It’s like cable television in the early 1980s.”

Barnett says we’ll see consolidation in the coming years as different sites take leadership positions in the market the way HBO became a powerhouse for movies or MTV became the same thing for music back in the 80s. “Years later there’s a small number of places people go for news, comedy, sports,” he said. “We see ourselves as building something that can be a part of that.”

Online video studio and platform My Damn Channel has raised a $4.4 million Series B round led by Intuitive Venture Partners, with additional funding from existing investors Okapi Venture Capital and Sunshine Wireless Company.

Illeana Douglas is flying high lately. The comedy web series in which she both created and stars, Easy to Assemble has been picking up steam this winter. It’s become not just a popular success—over 5 million views so far—but also a business one, with Madison Avenue trade Advertising Age calling it the “most-watched sponsored web show” in a recent in-depth feature in the magazine.

Sponsored by Trident Layers gum, Webventures stars Justin Tyler and Alden Ford as two hapless dudes hoping to get Felicia Day to star in their web series, assuming that will be the key to Internet fame and fortune. The five episodes ruthlessly parody major web series like The Guild and The Bannen Way, but do so with the guidance of some of the best comedic talent in web content today, thanks to direction by The Guild‘s Sean Becker and writing by Legend of Neil‘s Tony Janning and Sandeep Parikh. An almost countless number of web video stars appear over the course of the often very, very funny series.
