Panasonic Notebook Computers

2012-07-26T00:56:00.001-07:00

Panasonic notebook computers are more known for their rugged style. But the company does not only provide fully-rugged computers, but has a wide variety when it comes to business rubbed and semi-rugged. It all depends on what type of notebook computers you are looking for and what your needs are. For instance, the business rugged series is tough enough to meet business demands, but they offer mobility in the same time. This means you can still carry the notebooks with you and they are top-notch protected.

The semi-rugged notebooks will stand against bumps and spills; they are durable and performing at the same time. And last, the fully rugged notebooks are something special, because these have been put under serious tests and they are able to withstand 6-feet drops, extreme temperatures, liquid, dust-proof and so many more.

Toughbook S10 is one of the latest releases and the feature that makes the system come out in front is the 12.5 hours battery life, the longest in its class. Also, the notebook weighs just 3.0 pounds, has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and you can choose the optional 3G mobile broadband. It can handle 30” drops, the case is made out of magnesium alloy and the hard drive is shock-mounted. The keyboard can easily resist a hectic day, being spill resistant, survives bumps and bangs. Now you don’t have to worry anymore if you are drinking a cup of coffee or tea while using the computer. There are other models of Panasonic notebook computers to choose from, so stay close and you will see a range of them. Panasonic Toughbook CF-F9KWHZZ1M is a 14.1” notebook computer, available at a price range around $2000, but with features worth it. It runs on Intel Core i5 processor, has 2GB RAM installed, already installed is Windows 7 Professional and the battery life keeps on going for around 7 hours. It is expensive, but if you consider what it brings, you will see it is worth it. Also, the warranty is for three years. It has a lot of power settings, has a built-in handle, making it easier to carry the system around and you can go faster through the airport security check line. Even buyers state the quality is worth it. Panasonic Toughbook 53 is another example, available for more than $1500, but with everything you need inside to survive daily tasks and requirements: Intel Core i5 processor, 320GB hard drive, 4GB memory and a 14” display, 720p LED. The touch pad supports multi-touch gestures and it also has a built-in handle, so you don’t even need a case to travel with the system around, as it is tough so nothing will happen with it. Panasonic Toughbook CF-C1BDHAZ1M has a price tag of more than $2500, but it is actually a tablet computer. It has a 12.1” LED display, runs on Intel Core i5 processor and the warranty is for three years. You can swivel the display to get the best angle and you can also admire the white design, making it stylish, but keeping that durable look and case.

Acer Laptop Motherboards

2012-07-24T01:23:00.001-07:00

The motherboard is an essential component inside a computer, because the majority of parts are related to it. And in case something happens to the Acer laptop motherboard, nothing will work. In case the system will not load the operating system or it will not power at all, it might be the time to replace the motherboard. The process of disassembling and replacing the motherboard is not easy at all, because there are a lot of parts you need to remove to get to it and since we are dealing with a laptop computer, the parts are small and the risk of breaking and damaging something is high. This is why you need to be patient and to take a lot of time to get the job done correctly. To replace Acer laptop motherboards you need a screwdriver and a replacement motherboard. You can buy it online, but be sure to order one compatible with your laptop and most importantly, genuine.

First of all, you need to shut down the computer and wait for it to power down. Afterwards, remove all cords, including the power cable and close the lid. Flip the laptop on its back and hold down the battery release latch in order to pull out the battery. It would be a good idea to have all screws and parts inside a container, this way you can be sure you will have them close when it is time to put them all together. Along the four edges of the case there are eight screws. Remove them all and flip the laptop back over and open the lid. Get a flat head screwdriver and slide the end of it underneath the plastic piece below the screen, where the power button is. Wiggle the screwdriver until the plastic piece pops out. Lift it carefully and disconnect the cable that runs from it to the motherboard. Set the entire piece aside after you remove it. At top of the keyboard there are two crews that hold it to the case. Lift up the keyboard so the cable is visible and disconnect it from the motherboard. Put the keyboard aside and remove the screws holding the lid hinges in place and pull them out of the case.

Moreover, find the processor cooling fan and heat sink assembly at the right side of the motherboard. Remove the two screws of the fan and disconnect the cable from the motherboard. Now you can pull the fan and the heat sink assembly off the motherboard. Get a hold on the both sides of the exposed processor and lift it straight up. Remove any of the screws remaining that keep the motherboard in place and carefully lift it out of the case. Grab the replacement part and put it carefully inside the case and re-attach all screws. Put back all parts: the processor, the fan along with the heat sink, keyboard, hinges and finally the plastic bezel. The battery can now be placed inside the Acer laptop and put the latch on again. Turn on the computer and wait for the operating system to load to make sure the motherboard is working correctly.

Some of the parts are very fragile and you have to be very careful with all of them, especially with the pins on the processor. Don’t bend them when you pull the processor out. It is surely a meticulous work and it requires time and attention.

Acer Aspire One AOD250 Review

2009-08-18T00:01:00.000-07:00

On notebooks market, prices started going down and being competitive is a real challenge. Paying $500 for a Notebook was really common one year ago, but now the things changed and the average price is around $300. Dell has the Mini 10v at this price, and Acer's Aspire One is following good the competition, positioning itself around a price of $350 and they are doing pretty well, because they released Aspire One AOD250, at $298. Acer launched few months ago, the 10-inch version of the Notebooks, the AOD150. In February it cost $350 and it had its limitations ( a bad touch pad, somehow bulky because of the size of the battery and a cramped keyboard), but AOD 250 weighs less and it is thinner than the first version; it also has three cells in the battery, and not six, and this makes Aspire One AOD250 much better than the previous version. It has almost the same specifications as AOD150. The new product from Acer has a more compact design which makes it feel it less like a budget product.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

The keyboard is quite comfortable and it is far from the usual full size keyboards used on laptops. The typing experience is much more cramped than on an Samsung N120, or a HP Mini 110. The touchpad is tiny and inset, and the bottom button is more clicky than the previous version. Colors are sharp on the 10.1 inch wide screen, which offers a 1024x600 pixel resolution, which is quite normal for screens with these dimensions. The stereo speakers are not very good, they are weak (in volume and in sound quality). Well, headphones are usually a must for Notebooks, and this is the situation for most notebooks on the market.

Aspire One AOD250 has an Intel Atom N270 processor, and this kind of processors can be found in many notebooks, so nothing new. The 160 GB hard drive and 1 GB of DDR2 RAM are good for basic Web surfing, accessing documents and media viewing. Performance of this processor is the same for all notebook models available. This processor doesn't handle HD-streaming or full screen very good, but life battery is pretty good, and it can last up to 3 hours, theoretically. In practice, the battery is empty after almost 2 hours.

This new Aspire model comes with one-years parts and labor warranty, and it can be extended to three years for $90-$100. This company has also a free number. and you can call at any time, when you have problems with the Aspire product. All the necessary information ca be found on their website also, and if you can't find it there, you can call the 24/7 number.

The good points of this product are the low price and the slim size, next to the improved touch pad buttons, which are balanced by the negative parts like weak speakers, the mediocre battery life and the small keyboard. All in all, for this price, Aspire One AOD250 is a good product, and as long as you don't expect top features, it is great for normal use.

Acer Aspire One 751

2009-06-16T21:43:00.000-07:00

Acer Aspire One seems to be getting even more popular than the ASUS Eee PC, but I don't have any market share and accurate sales numbers to prove it. In fact, this was just as a personal thought based on what I see in stores and what I hear when I talk to my guys working in retail chains selling both of them. Now, it seems the Acer Aspire One 751 produced some fresh news, despite the fact it's not released yet...

... although we talked about it already, if I think well, and it seems the Acer Aspire One sporting a 11.6-inch display should be around already. These being said, you probably wonder where's the missing link of the chain, right? Well, just as it happened with other products from Acer or other companies, the thing has been officially released, had its pricing announced, but the specs and release date weren't published at the same time.<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->I know, the description above doesn't actually match what I know to be "a release," but let's take a look at the info that popped out at the end of last week, shall we?When we heard about the 11.6-inch Aspire One, it didn't have a name. Now, it has - it's Acer Aspire One 751, and more than just a name, here's what you can find inside it(and not only inside):- Intel 1.33GHz Atom Z520 CPU- maximum of 2GB of RAM- 1366x768 resolution, making it the largest netbook from Acer- Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and triband UMTS/HSPA 3G are being offered as options- 1-inch thickness- Windows XP Home as standard, with Vista Home Basic also available(hooray, Windows XP is not dead!)- 5.1 channel audio via compatible Dolby headphones- three USB ports, a VGA output and an Ethernet jack- 4 hours battery life using the 3-cell default one, and 8 hours with a optional 6-cell power unit- available in red, white, blue or blackI don't know what you think, but my guess is that the Acer Aspire One is getting dangerously close to standard notebooks, and I think its screen makes it the best choice for people who needed portability and battery life of a netbook, but also hated the tiny screens available.One... in fact two more things you need to know are, as usual, availability and price. For now, we know only that the Acer Aspire One 751 should drop sometime in May, and the price for the base version should be around $520.

Buy Old Macs

2009-05-08T06:28:00.000-07:00

Some of you will surely be glad to read this article, but I am really sad to write it. Just as a side note, when I got my latest computer, in late 2007, it only took me a few minutes of research to decide that I won't sell the old one. Why? Because I really love that machine, and it helped me learn(and earn) a lot. In the end, I sold the video card, moved some memory and the 250GB hard drive to my wife's computer, and turned the old Athlon XP machine into a Linux box for emergency situations, after adding some old memory and a 8.4GB drive to it.

There's no ending to the story above, I still have that machine, and it will probably keep working for at least 4-5 years, but I told you about it because that would help you understand better the feelings Blair Saldanah has these days. Who is he? One Apple lover in need, that's enough said, and if you want to help him and buy old Macs and then some...let's see what's for sale and why, shall we?The sad reason for selling 25 years of Mac memorabilia is that his wife needs medical care, and they don't have health insurance. These being said, I hope you won't try to bargain too much, because we're talking about more than just taking apart a collection here.<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->Now, if we leave aside the awesome posters, brochures, T-Shirts, stickers, manuals, or books, we get to the most interesting part - hardware! The items currently available on the hardware sales page are these: an Apple Macintosh Portable in working condition, with case, disks, manuals and power supply, for only $300 and shipping; a PowerBook Duo 2300c, for $400 and shipping; three PowerBooks - PowerBook 150, a PowerBook 180, and a PowerBook 180c, all with power supply and battery, even an extra power supply, but none of them booting up, for only $50 and shipping! That's all for those looking to buy old Macs for now, but it seems more will come in the near future. Let's hope everything will come out fine for Blair and his wife, and maybe some of his great collection will be spared. Good luck to him, and good luck to you, those who will buy items from his awesome collection!

Hewlett Packard and Vivienne Tam

2008-10-25T09:53:00.000-07:00

Hewlett-Packard and Vivienne Tam. When you first read these two names, you ask yourself what brings them together. Such a question is more than justified when you’re talking about an information technology corporation and a fashion designer, as it seems impossible to find a common denominator of the two.
But fashion is everywhere, and the world of computing systems does not make an exception. Nowadays, more and more manufacturers embrace a very intense sense of style and release “fashionable” products. Design has become an important and imperative aspect, added to the technological features, and that’s why HP announced its decision to work together with the world-renowned Asian fashion designer Vivienne Tam to create the Vivienne Tam Special Edition notebook.

The new design was unveiled during New York’s Fashion Week at Bryant Park, where Vivienne Tam had a fashion show, and is a red hot 10-inch HP laptop with her signature peony design. The new HP Vivienne Tam edition laptops were revealed down the runway looking like the latest designer clutch bags. “Like the Chinese symbol for <>, fashion and technology are modern examples of two things that are better together”; this is the explanation the company gave on their official website for the decision to bring an infusion of fashion to the HP technology. And we must agree: this is one innovative and extremely intelligent strategy a computer company could come up with in the attempt to convert its products into high fashion must-haves.

“When I was approached by HP to create a special edition notebook, I could see the design in my head instantly”, confesses Tam. “The notebook is a true reflection of the needs of a modern woman who cares about fashion, but is also passionate about her technology. I wanted to create a notebook that would appeal to women of all ages, ethnicities and income levels across the globe”. The result is a notebook of gleaming red and bursting with peony flowers on the lid. The peony design ends somewhere inside the notebook, under the keypad. Another important feature is an extra special enter key which represents the Chinese symbol for double happiness. The design was inspired by Tam’s “China Chic” style, recognized all over the world. Moreover, Tam also designed an elegant embroidered sleeve that will come in package with the notebook to help keep the exterior protected.

There are no technical specifications revealed to the public and the same goes for pricing and availability. However, the digital clutch notebook is presumed to be released in January 2009 in North America, with worldwide rollout to follow.

Pink Apple Macintosh Laptop

2008-10-22T21:10:00.000-07:00

We know that many of you are searching for a pink Apple Macintosh laptop computer and that there are many sites claiming to provide information on how to get one, but they just tell you long stories forgetting the essential part, which is to tell you exactly where to find them.Unfortunately, Apple didn't provide colored laptop computers after the special edition of the iBook Clamshell, but after doing some research over the Internet, we found some good solutions to help you create your own pink Apple Macintosh laptop, which is called customization.First we’ll start with some cool shells that stretch on the laptop, just like those transparent cases for cell phones. This method will give the look of color shades on the aluminum surface of the laptops, and the best models are those from Speck.Speck’s SeeThru hard plastic pink shells for Macbooks are of high quality and offer access to all the ports, as well as non-slip rubber feet. They protect the laptop from dirt, dust and spills, and are very easy to clean, covering the system only on the exterior.

After using one of these enough time to be sure you’ll still love pink in the future, you can go to the next level of customization and browse through the ColorWare web pages in search for a pink Apple Macintosh laptop design. There you can choose from 3 pink tones – Cotton Candy, Romance, which is paler, and Blush - the most elegant pink tone.

By using a metallic or solid finish for the color and spending $450, your pink Apple Macintosh laptop gets a scratch-resistant layer on the exterior and on the interior part, excepting the touchpad and the keyboard surface, which will remain white. You can combine pink with other colors for specific parts of the system as well.Another solution for having a pink Apple Macintosh laptop is to apply skins, and I’d like to recommend you to try the designer skins from GelaSkins. You’ll spend $29.95 for a unique design like Just Cause You Feel It by Steven Daily, or Shore by Lawrence Yang, and you’ll get a skin with a pink background and impressive drawings. All their skins are removable and use the 3M Technology to be easy applicable on the laptop’s surface, leaving no residue after removal. The material they are made of is scratch-resistant, with an anti- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet UV coating.

You can take a look also at DecalGirl store with even more designs having pink as the predominant color.
A more expensive alternative is to apply genuine pink Swarovski Crystals on the laptop, and you can do this at CrystalIcing. The firm offers only Swarovski Elements crystals in different colors and it would cost you about $2,000 for one laptop.

Your final decision will depend on the financial resources, taste and, of course, the need to have a permanent makeover or just something temporary for your pink Apple Macintosh laptop.

Dell Remote Access Software

2008-10-18T12:01:00.000-07:00

The new Dell Remote Access software solution is not functional only on laptop computers but also on desktop PCs, and was designed to enable users to share things when they need, where they want. For this reason, Dell added browser-based access to images, videos and other file types, as well as music streaming from the library to the notebook, web camera and smartphones. In addition, it allows you to access applications and different utilities that you have stored on the computer, from any place in the world.Dell Remote Access can be downloaded from the official page as a free trial for 10 days, and after that you’ll may think of spending $9.95 per month, or $99 a year, to benefit from its full features such as file sharing with friends, mobile phone support for using the service, monitor network web cameras, and remote desktop control for running home computer applications. All are provided with no storage limitations. The remote access software has a basic version which is free and can be used only for PC-to-PC connectivity for one computer, while the paid option adds all the other features.Later this year, customers who will purchase Dell Inspiron, Studio or XPS series computers will get the optional software pre-installed.“People are not sitting at home in front of their computers”, says Michael Tatelman, vice president of Dell’s global consumer sales and marketing. “They are out with friends, connecting with others and sharing experiences. Dell Remote Access let’s them take their music, movies and photos with them wherever they go and let’s them access it and share it whenever they want.”

New Apple Laptops :-O

2008-10-16T23:34:00.000-07:00

The story behind the new 13.3-inch Apple laptops is long and full of innovative ideas covering not only design aspects but also the number of new unique functionalities, placed carefully together to create a powerful mobile system with environmentally-friendly construction.Browsing through the specifications list we discover a new element called “the unibody enclosure”. This refers at the fact that the new Apple MacBook is encased in a single piece of aluminum created with absolute precision from a solid block of aluminum, using a process encountered in the aerospace industry. It was complicate to do it, but the result seems impressive. The new Apple laptops come in a thinner and lighter form factor with a stylish metal finish, as well as durable construction. The measure 0.95 x 12.78 x 8.94 inches at 4.5 pounds. To keep the laptop thin and at the same time provide the best viewing experience, Apple decided to use LED backlight. This technology enables high brightness, thinner construction and eliminates metal frames that sometimes could distract the user from the images on screen.

Apple added the new large MacBook trackpad model with multi-touch support for tracking, clicking in all directions, and gestures such as swipe, pinch, rotate, and 4-finger swipe. The sensitivity level was carefully chosen by the engineers, as well as the audio feedback for clicks and friction over the glass surface with smooth finish. Many internal components in the new Apple laptops were redesigned, such as the new logic board, the chipset, integrated graphics processor, and so on. For example, now you have the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M card that provides up to 5 times the graphics performance of the previous MacBooks, but with the same battery life.

About the green aspect of the new MacBook models we can tell you that they don't have mercury and arsenic in the display, thanks to the LED backlight technology, which requires 30% less power compared to the standard CCFL displays with backlight.
In addition, Apple removed all bromine and chlorine from the manufacturing, plus it reduced the packaging size with 41%. Almost all components in the new Apple laptops are recyclable, according to the company.

Moving to the keyboard, we find again the backlight feature for comfortable typing in low light environments.

Inside there are a 320GB hard drive, an optional 128GB Solid State Drive with no moving parts, a fast DVD burner, 2 USB ports, one Mini DisplayPort for external displays, the MagSafe power port with safety properties, Kensington lock slot, a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1066MHz DDR3 fast memory, 802.11n wireless support for high-speed transfers, 5 hours battery life, Bluetooth, compatibility with the optional Apple Wireless Keyboard and wireless Mighty Mouse, the iSight web camera foe video conferences, up to 4GB system memory, built-in stereo speakers, and an omnidirectional microphone.

The new Apple laptops have Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard operating system pre-installed with lots of useful and cool applications, as well as the iLife ’08 equipped with iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, and GarageBand.

You have a few configuration options to choose from, with prices ranging between $999 and $1,599.

Apple's World’s Thinnest Laptop

2008-10-02T00:31:00.000-07:00

Good news for MacBook Air fans! (and for me) According to AppleInsider, the price for a brand new MacBook Air with Solid State Drive got cut off with $500. So as you can see in the picture prepared by the editors at AppleInsider, the price dropped from $3,098 to $2,598 in just a month.

If you haven’t noticed yet, the price for NAND Flash memories is getting lower and the 1.6GHz model with SSD drive is available now at $2,398, which is a significant difference compared to the initial cost. This happened after Apple reduced the price for the 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor to $200, and the drop off the 64GB SSD drive price to $599 from $999.

At this moment, the other version of the MacBook Air with Intel Core 2 Duo processor clocked at 1.6GHz, 2GB memory, 80GB PATA hard drive at4 4200 rpm, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and Wi-Fi module, costs $1,799. The PATA hard drive, also known as Advanced Technology Attachment with Packet Interface, is the original ATA interface that connects hard disks, solid state disks and CD-ROM drives inside computers. PATA allows for parallel connectivity with cable lengths of up to 18 inches, but after SATA standard came out it conquered the market even if PATA was the most popular interface. Serial Advanced Technology Attachment allows for faster data transfers, supporting hot-swapping (replacing devices during operation), thinner cables for more efficient cooling, and improved data integrity checks.

It is not a disadvantage for the MacBook Air users, but the $2,598-model adds faster processing speeds, while both configurations sport a 13.3-inch glossy widescreen LED display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, optimized for best viewing in low light conditions, 2GB memory, and the Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared memory.

The world’s thinnest laptop measures 0.16 to 0.76 x 12.8 x 8.94 inches at a weight of 1.36 Kg

The latter option increases the battery life up to 5 hours, reducing the graphics performance when not required.

Design enhancements take into account the ergonomic aspect while using the stylish laptop, so the brush-finished aluminum panel surrounding the keys continues to form a comfortable palm rest.

Talking about performance this series brings, we have to mention that it comes with the WWAN technology (3G) for fast mobile broadband speeds reaching 7.2Mbps, thanks to the HSDPA technology. There is also the newest Intel processor technology powering these laptops, the Intel Centrino 2, which delivers increased performance and battery life simultaneously, supporting the upcoming wireless draft N technology.
The Wireless Wide Area Network is a wireless standard using technologies like WIMAX, UMTS, GPRS, CDMA2000, GSM, CDPD, Mobitex, HSDPA or 3G, instead of spread-spectrum or OFDM modulation technology based on radio waves, which is used by WLAN. To use it, the user needs a WWAN card for the notebook, as well as monthly usage subscription at a wireless service provider.

“This is the culmination of ten years of VAIO innovation,” said Hidetoshi Takigawa, Marketing Director for VAIO of Europe. “Incorporating feedback from our discerning and highly demanding customers, the VAIO Z embodies everything the brand stands for – cutting edge excellence in technology, exceptional ergonomics and bold, iconic design.
