Apple iCloud is a syncer's dream, iTunes music store gets better

iCloud was the second major announcement today by Apple for their mobile devices - it's a collection of 9 apps that are all connected to the cloud to keep your content synchronized across your devices. First the good news - it's free! And no ads either.

How iCloud works?
One device gets a new bit of content, which it then pushed to iCloud and from there it rains down on all your other devices (iPhones, iPads, Macs, even PCs, anything). There's a total of nine apps that work with iCloud to handle the various types of content.

Those apps are:
Contacts, Calendar, Mail (the original three from MobileMe), then App Store, iBooks, backup, Documents, Photo Stream and iTunes.

First up is contacts - add or change a contact and iCloud will copy that contact or change to the other devices. Calendar notes are synced the same way and you can share your calendar with other people.

Next up, Mail gives you a free @me.com account and 5GB of free storage. That storage is shared with a couple of other apps. Emails are synced to all devices.

Contacts, Calendar and Mail sync with iCloud

iCloud lets you look at a list of all the apps you've purchased and with a tap of a button, you can download them to the device if it doesn’t have it installed already. Buying a new app will push it to all devices, so that's only needed for apps you have right now, before the update.

iBooks has an equivalent function for books. Apps and books can be downloaded to up to 10 devices for free. Everything on the device is backed up daily over Wi-Fi, from settings through photos to application data.

Documents in the Cloud keeps your Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents synced across your devices. Documents and device backups count towards the 5GB storage limit.

Photos also go in the cloud - Photo Stream lets you snap a photo on one device and before you know it, it's already available on your other devices. Photos that come in from Photo Stream have their own album. Photos are synced on your Apple TV as well, which will make showing them completely effort-free.

Note that up to 1000 photos are kept in iCloud and up to 30 days - mobile devices keep that many for that long too, but Macs and PCs keep all photos, always. If you move photos to another album (other than the Photo Stream album) they will be preserved after 30 days too. Photos here don't count towards your 5GB storage limit.

Finally, perhaps the best feature in iCloud - iTunes in the Cloud. If you've purchased a song on another device, tap the cloud button and you can download it on the current device as well. This happens at no extra charge - a first in the industry, Apple says. Newly purchased songs are simply downloaded to all devices automatically.

But it goes beyond keeping your music library synchronized across all the devices. iTunes Match is a great feature if you have a large music library that's not from iTunes. Those songs are scanned and you can listen to high-quality copies of those songs from iTunes (256Kbps AAC, no DRM, same as songs you buy from iTunes). Match isn't free however, it costs $25 a year but that's for 20,000 songs. It's US only too.

iTunes in the Cloud is great

Still, the whole scanning process isn't without merit even without Match - iCloud will sync only songs that aren’t already on the device, making the whole process much faster (it should be done in minutes, Apple claims).

Now, the whole of iCloud will launch in the fall with iOS5 - but iTunes in the Cloud can be had in beta form sooner, with iOS 4.3 beta.

Those are the 9 core apps of iCloud that Apple provides. But fret not third developers - your apps can also use iCloud to sync their own content across the various devices that have the app. That works for iOS, Mac and PC apps - cool!

Syncing videos is conspicuously missing - the press release says nothing about that and neither did Steve during the presentation.

By the way, the AppStore update is already live, you can now see the full list of apps you've ever downloaded and you can also see the apps you have downloaded on other iOS devices. Go check it out from your device!

Motorola Droid 3 for Verizon leaks out in tutorial videos

Verizon Wireless and Motorola did a great job in keeping the highly anticipated Motorola Droid 3 a well guarded secret. Until today at least. The upcoming Android handset showed itself completely in a series of tutorial videos and left nothing to our imagination, at least as far as looks are concerned.

The videos confirm the 8MP camera on the handset. It will be capable of recording 1080p videos as well. On the left side of the device, you get a microUSB and HDMI connectors much like another Droid by Motorola - the X2. The right side of the device will host two volume keys. There is no camera shutter button on the smartphone.

There is a five-row QWERTY keyboard with a dedicated row for numbers only. In case you get bored with it, there will be a virtual keyboard at your disposal too.

There is no info on the CPU in the Droid 3, or the screen resolution. We suspect, they will be Tegra 2 and qHD respectively. The Android version is unknown too since all the videos note that the software shown is not final.

Install WordPress On Localhost ( Offline )

If you are using WordPress as your blogging or CMS platform you will already be familiar with the huge range of customization options available to you as a webmaster.Whilst this is a good thing, you will also know that often, making changes to your site, adding plugins, updating to the latest release, changing themes etc. can sometimes have unpredictable and occasionally undesirable results.
When working with a live site, you do have the option of using something like the maintenance plugin that can display a screen to your visitors advising them that the site is temporarily unavailable, but if you are making some major changes the potential downtime for your blog makes things a little more difficult.
This is where having a working installation of WordPress (or indeed any other popular script such as Joomla, drupal, phpBB) on a local server on your own computer comes into its own.

First step, please to download the latest wordpress over here. The downloaded file is still compressed, please to extract it first. Copy the files you have extract to the folder C:\xampp\htdocs (assumed that XAMPP was installed on drive C). Read about installing XAMPP here.

Activate XAMPP
Please activate your XAMPP program. Click the Start button for the Apache and MySQL. Usually will be warning that Windows Firewall blocking them. Click the “unblock” menu so the Apache and MySQL could run.

Create a New Database
After the Apache and MySQL has active, please click the “admin” for MySQL or just typing http://localhost/phpmyadmin/ on your internet browser.

Create a new database, fill the Create new database with wordpress, and then click the Create button.

Install the WordPress
Make sure that Apache and MySQL has active, and database was created, and now is time to install the wordpress. Write http://localhost/wordpress/ on your internet browser, here the following sequences:

Click the Create a Configuration File button

Click the Let’s Go button
In a form, change the Password with the root, just leave the password blank. Then click Submit

Click the Run the Install button

Fill the form with your desired. Click the Install WordPress to finish
Site title: fill with the desired title, e.g: Testing WordPress
Username: fill with desired username, e.g: admin
Password, twice: fill with desired password, e.g: 123456 (fill both of them/ must be same)Your email: fill with your email address, e.g: yourname@gmail.com

If there is nothing wrong on filling then will appear a Success!, and now you can try to loggin into your wordpress.

Nokia Oro announced: Symbian Anna inside and gold outside

Today Nokia unveiled their new premium handset dubbed Nokia Oro. The Symbian smartphone will offer a selection of exquisite materials for its exterior, including 18-carat gold plating, sapphire crystal and leather.
That's the second public appearance of the Nokia Oro, after it leaked a few weeks ago. The smartphone sports the latest Anna update of the Symbian operating system and a good set of connectivity options – microUSB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G with HSDPA. There’s also a sweet 3.5” ClearBlack AMOLED screen of nHD resolution on board.

Nokia Oro

Designwise the Nokia Oro is an exact copy of the C7 mass-market model, but Nokia has made sure that it won’t get mistaken for its mortal cousin. The company says that the build quality has been improved and the materials used are just screaming expensive.
The 18-carat gold plating used for the frame around the front panel, the keys and the part around the camera lens has been made scratch-resistant so it won’t lose its appeal over time. The leather used for the rest of the back panel is coming from premium Scottish stock and the home button is covered by real sapphire crystal, which is said to be 8 times tougher than glass.

If you fancy snatching a full-featured smartphone with looks that will clearly state your high social status, you will be able to get the Nokia Oro in Q3 of this year. Europe, China and the Middle East will be the first to get the handset, which will cost in excess of €800 before taxes and subsides.

Windows Phone 7.1, a.k.a. Mango, goes official, here's what's new

Mango, a.k.a. Windows Phone 7.1, is served - along with 500 new features. Multitasking is among them, as is much deeper social networking integration, improved message handling and more.

The WP 7.1 update will be shipping on new phones this fall and it will be made available to existing Windows Phone 7 users for free at the same time. And there will be new devices to come - aside from the widely publicized deal with Nokia, Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE will be making Windows Phone 7.1 devices too.

Microsoft has added a long list of supported languages to greatly expand the reach of Windows Phone to new countries.

Here’s a summary of new features.

Multitasking is one of the most hotly expected features. It uses a card interface to switch between apps, very similar to what we've seen in WebOS.

Messaging is done on threads, combining various services - within a single conversation you can switch between SMS, Facebook chat and Windows Live Messenger seamlessly. You can dictate your message or have an incoming text read to you, thanks to the text-to-speech and speech-to-text features.

Twitter and LinkedIn has joined the social networking prowess of Windows Phone too and Facebook check-in functionality as well as face tagging in photos are built-in. You can pin whole groups of people as live tiles and monitor updates from people in the group or message the whole group right from your Start screen. Live tiles are improved in general - they are can display much more info than their v7.0 counterparts.

App connect helps third-party apps integrate into the Hubs of Windows Phone 7.1 to enhance the core experience of the phone. Apps will also be included in search results, making search in Mango much more universal.

Internet Explorer 9 is coming with the Mango update too (it's based on the capable desktop browser). IE9 for Windows Phone 7.1 supports hardware acceleration.

Bing services have been extended - Bing Vision (think Google Goggles), Music Search and Voice offer new ways to search the web. A curious new feature, called Quick Cards, will give you instant access to key information (including related apps) whenever you search for a product, place, event or movie.

Local scout will help you find what you need nearby - shops, restaurants or activities will be recommended in an "easy-to-use guide".
