As you may already know, using Clickbank and be as both an affiliate or as a vendor (seller). Both have their advantages and both can help you generate profits. One of the major advantages of being an affiliate is you do not need to deal with updating products of refunds (although refunds will result in removal of funds). Al you have to do is promote products with your Clickbank ID and wait for sales to start rolling in.

Being a vendor on the other hand, also has its benefits. Once you present a product to Clickbank and receive approval, you can upload the information and start selling your product. But the other major benefit is you can also sell through Clickbank affiliates. This greatly expands your marketing efforts.

One of the major ways to develop you own product is to use private label rights (PLR). What is PLR?

One of the toughest parts of internet marketing is keyword research. It is an absolute essential ingredient for what niches to enter, and choosing an appropriate domain name. If you get this part wrong, then you chances of success are seriously reduced.

I have struggled with this for some time, using Google's Keyword Tool for research. While Google's Keyword Tool is effective for locating loads of keywords, it is only a partial solution.

Sure, it provides keyword searches, competition, volume and cost-per-click (cpc) but is that all you really need? Why pay for info products when you can get them for free

There are marketers selling information products all the time. No matter what field you go into,
there are bound to be information products for sale, with the price of these items ranging from
a mere $1 to thousands of dollars.

With the Internet and Google (and other search engines) at our fingertips, searching for
information that we want to acquire becomes dead easy and convenient.

The same information that is contained within paid informational products can be found for
free all over the Internet……and yet there are TONS of people still willing to part with their hard-earned money to buy paid informational products rather than getting them from the Internet for free.

You avoid (or lessen your) mistakes. You save time and money as a result. You’re essentially

Building A List

It is common knowledge that in Internet Marketing (IM) the money is in the list. That being the case, it is imperative that you immediately begin building a list by offering something for free, such as an ebook or....what ever. We all know that to be able to make money on-line, requires some kind of web presence. In previous blogs, I have mentioned two common ways to get that web presence: free blogging systems like Blogger and WordPress.

With a free system such as Blogger, you do not need to purchase a domain name nor do you have to pay for hosting. (A domain name, with .com, .org or .net, with cost about $10.00 to $12.00 per year and hosting will be a minimum of about $3.95 per month.) There are cheaper domain names such as .info but they do not carry much authority with buyers.

WordPress, although free, does require hosting and the purchase of a domain name. Add the cost of generating traffic (SEO, Adwords) and an autoresponder for list building and you are adding more expenses. Once you start making sales, they will become less of a burden.

What does all of the above have to do with this post? • Being organized – Being organized is crucial if you are going to make a living from Clickbank. You wouldn’t go on holiday and leave everything to chance would you, you would get your book tickets, book your airline, make sure your passport is organized, buy some clothes, book time off work etc, and so it is with affiliate marketing. You need to be organized and know what is working and what is not working.

• Pick a product – Choose a product from the marketplace at Clickbank and research your competition. To research your competition just type the keywords into the Google search bar and that will give you an indication of how much competition you have.

• Create a landing page – You need a landing page, which is a soft sales page telling people what’s good about the Clickbank product you are promoting. It is not a full blown sales page and never make the mistake of writing one as such, the sales letter is for that. Have some nice graphics, possibly a video to make your landing page more appealing. This is not hard to do even for the most technically challenged.

• Open a Google and Yahoo ad account – Essential if you want quick traffic to your landing page. Yahoo can be a lot less expensive but Google will get you the bigger amount of traffic.

• Run an ad – As above but be sure to test and teak the ad as you go along. Good keywords can be your saviour.

• Tweak – tweak, tweak tweak, always keep tweaking

• Repeat – Rinse and repeat. When you find a winning formulae go with it

That’s it. A very simple process and yet most people think there is a secret to it. The secret is that there is no secret.

As an affiliate marketer, your choices of products to promote are endless. Depending on your interests, you can team up with merchants or product developers in almost any field imaginable.

Interior decorators can affiliate with window and drapery companies, furniture manufacturers, carpet companies, and custom builders. Dog breeders can affiliate with groomers or trainers. And Internet marketers can affiliate with eBook authors, traffic resource owners, software resellers, or promotional products. The list of products to promote is limited only by one's imagination and creativity.

Here are the steps to creating your affiliate marketing business:

1. DECIDE WHAT NICHE YOU WANT TO PROMOTE

The first step in deciding what to promote would be to decide if there is a particular niche or interest about which you are passionate. It always runs true that it is much easier to promote something
you love. Are you a dog lover, a quilter, a do-it-yourselfer, an Internet "junkie" or a parent who has found a fabulous product that you want every other parent to know about? Choose where you want
to go with your affiliate marketing business.

2. DECIDE HOW YOU WILL PROMOTE

Next, decide how you want to promote your business. Are you going to build your own website? Are you going to use a template site? Will you be promoting offline and online or promoting one or the other way exclusively? What different types of products can you add to your line? As a dog breeder, you could connect with groomers, pet food manufacturers, trainers, pet toy manufacturers, poop scoopers, veterinarians, boarding kennels or pet sitters. As you can see, the list can be quite extensive.

3. DETERMINE HOW YOU WILL BE COMPENSATED (DEPENDING ON YOUR NICHE)

Many of the people and companies that you connect with will have a specific compensation plan in place. In fact, this is the norm. You should be prepared to suggest a compensation plan to any vendors who do not have one in place, or an alternate plan for those vendors to whom you can really provide quality traffic or that you have some special talent or skill.

4. SETUP YOUR WORKSPACE

Remember also, that a home office can consist of whatever space you can carve out of your current living space. If you have a spare room to set up in, that's ideal. You can decorate it with the excess furniture you have at hand, or pick up some type of second-hand office furniture. It's not necessary to purchase a lot of expensive items. Make do with what you have or what you can acquire inexpensively. If you don't have a spare room, a dining room table to work on, a corner of your bedroom or whatever
space you can create will work just fine. After all, many exceedingly wealthy entrepreneurs started out in their garages.

5. PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE!

While it is pretty easy to set up an affiliate marketing business, understand that it also requires work in order to be profitable. Whether you are working online or offline, you will need to actively promote whatever product or company with whom you've chosen to affiliate. No work means no income.
Even though the old saying "it takes money to make money" is true, you will want to operate out of profit, not out of pocket. Therefore, be cautious of what you are spending in promotions until you are able to start earning an income.

6. REAP YOUR REWARDS!!!

All work and no play makes for a 'JOB' without the benefits, so be sure that you enjoy your newly generated income. Take time to smell the roses, spend time with your loved ones. Use that extra income to relieve your financial stress, take a vacation or buy someone a gift and most importantly, don't forget to get something special for yourself.

With these steps in mind, you can easily create a profitable business from the comfort of your home. Whether you work your home business full-time or part-time to start, you will have an affiliate marketing business you can look at with pride.

Finding A Product And A Niche

If you have signed up for an affiliate account at Clickbank and have been overwhelmed by the shear magnitude of products and services available to promote, there is a shortcut you might consider in narrowing down your search.

First, a little background on niches. Some "gurus" believe you should pick a niche that is very large, allowing you to expand your marketing of different products within the large niche. Others believe you should focus on very narrow niches where competition is low. Whatever tack you take, you should look for products that convert well. That will be reflected in the gravity ranking of the product. The higher the gravity, the more people are making sales of the product.

I believe that if you pick a product with a very large gravity, you will encounter unusually large amounts of competition. Perhaps selecting products with gravity over 50 and under 300 would be a good range.

There is a free tool available which will shortcut the process for you to choose a highly converting product. It is called CBEngine located here. (There is also a Pro edition but you pay a price for it). Locate the "Top Gravity" section on the right center of the page and click "Complete List". This will list from highest to lowest top products based on gravity. There, you will be able to get product information, website and affiliate links. It also lists the average affiliate earnings for each product.

This is a good first stop and will illustrate the current "hot seller" niches. An alternative approach is actually within the Clickbank Marketplace. When you click on Marketplace, you will have a search window called "Find Products". If you select "Advanced Search", you will be able to: specify keywords, categories (niches) and the ability to specify different "Stats". Once you perform the search, you can then refine the search, by selecting gravity from the drop down menu, and sorting from high to low.

More About Traffic

In my previous post, I detailed the importance of traffic and, without it, your site or blog will not generate income. Traffic is the lifeblood of your business. I also outlined several methods of driving traffic to your site. Most involved obtaining backlinks to your site.

There are several Clickbank products that have been created that promise huge amounts of traffic directed to your site with just a few mouse clicks. Although I have not used any of these products, I believe in the old adage that "if it appears to be too good to be true, it probably is".

What is traffic and why should you care? Traffic, very simply, is people somehow arriving at your web site (or blog) and viewing your pages. Without this "traffic", there will be no one to sell or promote products to. In other words, traffic is the lifeblood of your Internet Marketing business.

Ok, so how do you get traffic? Lets assume you have set up a blog (either Wordpress or Blogger, etc.) and are using it to promote a Clickbank product. One obvious method of generating traffic will be making posts (referred to as content) on your blog which uses keywords associated with the product you are promoting. These keywords, contained within your post, will then get picked up by the search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo) and indexed. The effect of this is when someone enters a search with the keywords associated with your product, your blog posts will be associated with that search. This can help to drive traffic to your site.

You can also write and post articles on places such as Squidoo or Hubpages. You can write articles and submit them to places like Ezinearticles. You can make videos, or post on forums, or do social marketing to places like Twitter or Facebook.

All of the above creates "backlinks" to your website or post which will direct traffic to your site. The more backlinks you can obtain, the more traffic that will be directed to your site.

Once you have traffic visiting your site, you can begin to make money from promotions.

Some Additional Steps to Internet Marketing Success

It is generally agreed that to begin promoting (selling) products, you need a few tools. Although not absolutely necessary, you should have a web site. This can take the form of a blog. Popular choices are this site (Blogger), which is part of Google.com. Using Blogger or other similar forms do not require hosting or obtaining a domain name. In other words, there is basically no expense involved to get a web presence.

The other route would be obtaining a domain (more on this later) from places such as GoDaddy, Namecheap and others. Costs per year will range from about $8.00 to $12.00. Following this step is web hosting. There are many hosting companies with a mind-boggling array of prices and features. I would shop for one that offers a either Fantasico or a variation as this makes installing software very simple (1 click). Some popular hosts are: HostMonster, HostGator, BlueHost and JustHosts, all priced at around $4.00 per month, with similar features.

If you go with obtaining a domain and hosting, your best bet will be to use Wordpress for blogging software. There are many themes available for WP (Wordpress) some are free others are premium. Even some premium themes have free versions. Search for themes that are SEO (search engine optimized) enabled. All themes have a variety of plugins (software) providing additional features.

A few words about keywords. Keywords are probably the most important thing to understand as they are critical your success. Keywords are words that the search engines (such as Google, Yahoo and Bing) use to index pages. When you do an internet search, you type a few words into your browser's search field which you believe will retrieve the information you are searching for. The more definite the words or phrase, the more closely the search will match your request. So, if you expect people to visit your web site (or blog) and make a purchase, you will need to include some keywords in your domain or blog name. (If you are trying to promote a diet product, but your domain name or blog does not include some diet keywords, your potential customers will never find you.

There are many keyword tools you can purchase, but Google offers one for free (Google keyword tool). I have used several keyword tools but find Google's to be nearly as effective as the non-free versions. At the very least, use it while you are getting started to keep your costs at a minimum.

Getting Started in Internet Marketing

One of the very first things confronting a new internet marketer is what to sell. You have two basic choices: you can promote someone else's product or you can develop and sell your own.

From a start-up cost and a time-to-market standpoint, promoting someone else's product is the preferred method. Lets face it, you will not have to handle payments, refunds, dealing with customers or any number of other details the owner of a product may encounter. You simple promote, as an affiliate, any product or group of products of your choosing. In fact, your start-up costs may be zero if you choose to use one of the free blogs available such as Blogger.

So, assuming you will follow the affiliate method, your first step will be to locate a product to promote. For many, that will mean going to Clickbank.com, signing up as an affiliate and then browsing to the "marketplace" to find your first product. Although Clickbank is not the only source for products to promote, they are probably the easiest for a beginner. They have thousands of products and services you can select from and Clickbank will take care of getting you paid. This will happen as soon as someone makes a purchase using your affiliate link. Clickbank will transfer your commission (less a fee) directly to your affiliate account. So, as you can see, your only requirement is to promote products.

Typical commission rates are 50 to 70 percent of the sale price (again less Clickbank's fee) so if you promote high end products you can make a very good living. Many products offer recurring charges and you will get paid on them as well.

Some things to consider when choosing a product to promote:

Pick products that pay at least $20.00 (it does not take any more effort to pick a product that pays $100.00 or more). Anything less that $20.00 is not really worth you time, unless you have a love for the product.
Gravity is a measure of the amount of sales occurring on a product by multiple affiliates over a period of time. Many believe choosing a product with a gravity over 50 is beneficial as there is a proven market for the product.
Consider choosing a product that has recurring billing as this will greatly enhance your earnings.
Many vendors have detailed promotion tools set up which will help to get you going quicker.

There are many other things you might consider, but these are, in my opinion, the most important to start.
