The How Bad is Your Gri Gri Photo Contest

How worn is your Gri Gri? Many of us keep using our Gri Gri’s even though they begin to show major wear and tear. The most common signs are a big rope groove, and wearing of the cam. So we’ve partnered with Petzl to help promote safety and get those old Gri Gri’s off the street. Send us photos of your worn Gri Gri’s, and the most worn will win a new Gri Gri, thanks to Petzl. The second and third place winners will get Reverso’s, ’cause let’s face it, you need to retire those things!

Just Another Sweet Weekend in the Valley

I first became interested in South by Southwest (5.11a, 5 pitches) on Lower Cathedral Spire when a dude from Colorado mentioned it when we were chatting at the Penny Lane crag in Squamish. He mentioned something about it being easy for the grade in the Valley (hey, if I’m trying to break into a grade, I have no problem trying the easiest objective first) and having red camalot hand cracks (RED CAMALOT HAND CRACKS!!!).

The Fun Scale

I first heard about the Fun Scale from my friend Peter Haeussler back in 2001, as we bushwhacked through thick Alaskan Devil’s Club en route to cold beers on his sailboat. I’d just come out of the Range, where Scotty D and I had a terrific climbing trip, sometimes terrifying but we loved it later – we’d put up two new routes on Thunder Mountain and made the probable first one-day ascent of Mt. Huntington.

The Awesomeness That is Columnar Basalt (Climbing at the Grotto)

Last weekend, Sarah Kate and I both needed to do some work for part of the weekend, but we still wanted to get out climbing for a day. I LOVE LOVE LOVE basalt from my previous experiences with it (the Gorge at Smith Rock and Vantage in eastern Washington) and we’d heard good things about climbing at Table Mountain.

Cliimbing in Grampians by Lee Cujes

I'm now back from two weeks in the Grampians. Known as the home of Hollow Mountain Cave bouldering and Taipan Wall (the two primary attractions for visiting Euros), the Grampians host some of the nicest rock in Australia.

Warren Harding’s Twitter Feed

You may have never heard but during his historic ascent of the Nose, Warren Harding had an early version of the iPhone and tweeted his progress, frustrations and elations. We dug into the Internet archives to bring you his candid thoughts (after the jump).

A photo essay from the Original Route on Rainbow Wall

This past weekend I had the chance to climb the Original route on Rainbow Wall. This experience flowed beautifully as I embraced a feeling of relaxation and avoided nervousness. I talked my self up, filled my coffer with positivity, and went to Red Rocks to climb this great multi-pitch.
