Carla's Circle

I would encourage you to read about Carla and consider donating to this fund, or to Lees-McRae college for this fund.

Two steps forward, Two steps back.

Life is a fragile thing. That's pretty well known, but we often forget. Losing someone, regardless of how close you are to that person is a traumatizing, depressing, and sad experience. Although, it can be a blessing in disguise. The world lost a gem when Carla was struck by a truck and killed while on a training ride in her native South Africa.
Carla Swart was the most decorated collegiate cyclist of all time. She had just signed with the HTC Highroad powerhouse women's team, and was expected to do well in her first UCI Pro season, and had good hopes for the 2012 Olympics. Carla was a team mate, and I can call her a friend even though we only new each other for months. Carla was an amazing person and will be missed.
Sickness in my family and Carla's death have weighed heavy on my mind in recent days. I have managed to keep my head up, but not without the help of a new person in my life. I say new, but it feels like she has been here all along. I don't know where my mind would be without her.
The sickness and death are the recent two steps back, and an amazing girl and good recent training are the two steps forward. That would essentially put me in the same place but I probably should call it two steps back and two giant leaps forward.
I couldn't be more thankful for everything going on in my life, even the bad things. You must go through darkness before you see the light.

I'm back, but in fact, I never went anywhere. I've been right here, living my life. I'm feeling a bit pessimistic at the moment, which is not normal for me. A lot of, for lack of a better word, shit has been happening. I just feel off. Honestly things in my life couldn't be much better. The people around me seem to be watching their lives crumble. I guess my personality, and my bond with these people makes me feel their pain.
Enough of the bad, Life is great. Like I said, couldn't be much better. Banner Elk is getting cold. We got our first snow on November the 4th. Riding in the cold is hard. I have alot of school work to do.
