In this tutorial I want to show you how to create outstanding light effects in photoshop. In this interesting light effects tutorial I like to give you good guidance on how to deal with an illustration like this effect and cover the overall workflow. So, let’s get start…

Preparation:

This is an advanced piece, I mean there are no hard to do techniques, but this kind of work requires a lot of good taste, some color experience and casting shadows knowledge. So I do not recommend this tutorial for beginners. I’ll skip basic pointers and go straight to the main point. Basically, I want you to get the idea of how to create an illustration like this and follow your own way with these effects.

Before we start, I wanted to show you how the concept changed during the whole session:

1. This first image below is the main concept, that I planned. It’s the first idea that came to my head: an energy ball with lots of shine lines around it.

2. While searching images I accidentally found an image of a man in a very cool position, which came from 123rf.com, so I thought this must be used here. So I put him there and wanted to make an illusion that this man is creating all the energy.

3. The first plans were done and I started to work on this project. During the process this concept somehow lacked dynamics, so I decided to rotate the whole piece.

4. Finally, when I had no idea how this energy ball could look like, and this took me some time before I came up with the final idea, I rejected the ball and went into energy touch only for this man.

So you see each project changes when you work on it, so before you get into this tutorial remember to work flexible, not everything needs to look the same way as you planned. Take your time and use your imagination.

Step 1:

Before we start, you need to know that the shining effects work best on a black background. The darker the background is, the more visible and contrasted shine you will achieve. So I started with a black background of the canvas around 900px by 1100px (this should work for you fine).

Step 2:

Now is the first hard part, searching for the right image. I know many people are unhappy with buying pictures, but well, the truth is: if you want good quality, you need to pay for it. I’ve nothing against free stock photos, if you have the time to search for a good image among mixed quality free pictures it’s OK.

Anyway, if you have the right image, then extract the person (or object) from the image of your choice. The biggest problem of all cut-outs is always the hair. But, as you can see in the image below, I had a short haired man. In this case I simply used the Pen Tool to deal with short hair. And because we have a black background in our main project document, we can easily blend this black hair with the background. To do this I used the Burn Tool with Range set to Midtones and burned the hair edges a little.

Step 3:

Now, in the Layers Palette I added two adjustment layers: Levels and Gradient Map to make a better blending between this person and the black background. I used a gradient from black to white and set the Gradient Map layer’s Blending Mode to Soft Light, then lowered the Opacity just a touch.

Step 4:

OK, next we’ll create ground. I used a Gradient Tool and on a new layer created a radial gradient from white to transparent (as you see in the first picture below). Then this big white dot needed some perspective, so here I hit Command + T to Distort (second image below).

The dot was blurred using Gaussian Blur at around 40 pixel Radius. Then I duplicated this blurred dot, stretched it a little bit (Command + T) and made two more copies to enhance the ground effect. If necessary, the opacities of these ground layers can be lowered just a touch. It means that this surface shouldn’t be too bright, as this will kinda destroy the concept of having the whole background black.

Step 5:

Now, as you can see in the first image below, I started adding shadows under the shoes. It’s not suppose to be great and totally pimped shadow. I just needed to make an accent that this man is standing on something. This always works pretty well, as you start to see how your illustration is shaping up, even thought the shade will change, it’s good to have it sketched.

To do the shadow I used a black brush with Flow set to 2% and Hardness to 0%, then I slowly started creating it click by click (don’t hold the left mouse button while doing this, as you may make a very ugly kind of shadow that way). Individual brush clicks did the job just fine.

Now let’s focus on the second image below. Something didn’t work for me in this piece, so I decided to add the first dynamic touch to this illustration, so I selected all the layers and used Command + T to rotate them at a small angle (for now it looked kinda like a slip).

Step 6:

I zoomed out and positioned this man and ground to the right. I kinda wanted to avoid the center focus of illustration. Sometimes it’s good to move the main object/person to the side, looks more dynamic and original to me.

OK, then I decided that this position works perfectly for this piece and started touching up shadows. Looking at this man it’s visible that few sources of light hit him (for example his left hand shows that light reaches it from left and right). So in this case I decided to give this man a soft shadow, only underneath him by using the same technique as previously.

I only want you to pay attention to his shoes which are the closest objects to the ground. Shoes stick to the surface, this means they need more shadow around them. The farther the objects are from the ground, the more they start to disappear (and the shadow starts to soften, then slowly vanish).

Step 7:

As I was watching my illustration now, I felt like there are some spots that are too bright, so I used the Burn Tool to enhance the shade effect of the shoes. I also did some blending with the hand, as It seemed too bright on the left side.

Step 8:

Finally this man is ready. Now this illustration needs to look more like one piece. So I did some overall color adjusting. I added a Curves adjustment layer and then a Gradient Map with a Violet to Orange gradient (picked from standard presets). Then I lowered the Opacity of the Gradient Map to around 25-30% and changed its Blending Mode to Soft Light. Both adjustment layers were set up to give this illustration a yellowish touch (as I experimented and liked it).

Step 9:

Now it looks like this man really belongs to this place, and that’s the thing we want. Next, I started all the light tricks.

Here is something abstract that I prepared for this piece. So I opened these lights and dragged them into the project while changing its Blending Mode to Linear Dodge. It was put above all layers just not to get colorized by two previous adjustment layers.

Now look at the process. As I already had these abstract lights, I took the Burn Tool (Midtones) and burned parts of this piece that I wanted to get rid of (2nd image below). Then many less of these lines lasted, so I used a hard Eraser Tool to erase the rest of the disturbing lines, which I didn’t want to see here (3rd image below). Finally I added Image > Adjustments > Color Balance and adjusted this color exactly for these three main lines (blue, green and yellow). I worked to achieve cool, bright coloring for these lines.

This can be done for each line separately, but before that they need to be cut out into new layers.

Step 10:

As I said, if you don’t have some color experience, this tutorial will be difficult for you to follow. Now is the further part when I repeated the same process as in the previous step. I created, erased, separated new lines and added various colors.

Step 11:

I was still into adding color light lines, and I want to show you another example of flexible work. During this process I had many ideas of how to connect and set these lines.

First I thought maybe a good idea would be to cross them and make them in different positions (1st image below). This didn’t work out and I decided to make all the lines almost parallel (2nd image below). So I made it, and for some variation I added one green line that kinda crossed the space, but it gave some depth to the illustration so I left it be.

Step 12:

Now I added some more brightness in places indicated below using soft white brush. The new layer was created below the lines layers, as these lines are half transparent (cause of the linear dodge mode), so everything put below these lines is visible.

Step 13:

I played around with these lines and achieved some cool results (first image below). All done the same way as I showed previously.

Next I felt like this piece needs some more details going all around it and filling in some blanks. You can find some similar brushes to the ones I used for this. Experiment with various brushes in this step.

I picked one my grungy splatter brushes. Then found a nice dark color (coming from the color that I used in light lines – in my case it happened to be blue) and made a brush mark (second image below). Then I brought up the selection of this brush mark and contracted it by 2 pixels by going to Select > Modify > Contract (third image below). Next I hit Delete to get rid of the center brush part (forth image below). Then I positioned it near a light blue line.

Step 14:

Now as I had this brush mark placed correctly, I used a soft eraser and erased disturbing parts. Then switching between the Burn Tool (Midtones) and Dodge Tool (Highlights) I pimped out selected dark spots of this brush mark.

When using the Burn Tool you actually darken the spot. When using the Dodge Tool, you brighten it up. So I was very careful in this step, a small overdo can destroy the idea.

So this process is just to show you how it works, the brush mark in the first three images below are just an example. In the forth image below you can see the brushes that I used originally.

Step 15:

By the way we’re still with these brushes, pay attention to the little pieces above the man’s head (first image below) and the ones near his leg (second image below). Yes, they were made the same way as previously. To do this you can even use some splatter brushes and follow the same process.

Also pay attention to the second image below. I indicated a spot that points to shadow. This shadow made an illusion that these little pieces are in the air. So if you get more small pieces around the ground, you can cast some shadows underneath them (but on the ground) and this will give your effects more depth.

Step 16:

Next to add some sparkle to this illustration I decided to use a picture of sky and cut the sun out of it. Then I desideratum this piece (second image below) and set its Blending Mode to Linear Dodge and I erased all the unnecessary parts around this sun (with the Eraser Tool). I also brought up the Levels (Command + L) and enhanced the contrast. Then I used Burn Tool (Midtones) to enhance the light effect and darken the rays (fourth image below). Finally, I colored this sun using Hue/Saturation and Color Balance; I made it green and then gave it a touch of yellow.

Step 17:

The suns were resided down to a very small size, and at this size it completely stops being recognizable as a shining sun. Now it’s just a shining spot. I duplicated it many times and placed it in various spots. By the way, I changed the color when it was necessary to make these lights fit. To change colors I followed similar steps as before (basically Hue/Saturation and when the tone was not fully satisfying I pimped it with Color Balance).

Step 18:

Moving forward I thought I’d use these nice clouds of this sky to make some dust. So I opened the image and desiderated it. Then (as previously) I used Levels (Command + L) to make the clouds stand out. Next, I used a soft Eraser and got rid of unwanted parts (fifth image below). Finally, I grabbed Burn Tool (Midtones) and made some touch-ups to these clouds. I kinda separated them and brought them up more.

Step 19:

I named these clouds “Dust” and changed the layer’s Blending Mode to Linear Dodge. Then rotated them and placed them towards the lines direction (as you can see in the image below).

I made a small comparison below, the whole illustration got a little bit smoother when I added this dust.

Step 20:

So the illustration was almost finished, but the light lines were still not blended enough with the model. I hit Command + A to select the whole canvas, and then Command + Shift + C (copy merged) and Command + V (paste). This way I made a duplicate of the whole image and put it on top of all the layers.

Then while having this image selected, I went to Filter > Liquify and as you can see in the first image below, I did some stretching using the Forward Warp Tool (in Liquify filter). In the second image below you can see how smooth and nice these lines were blended.

Step 21:

As the final touch I wanted to give this piece a little more realism, so I casted light reflections on this man’s clothes and skin. Each arrow below has the color of the nearest line. For example, the first orange arrow point of the shirt spot which should be affected by the orange light line. So I gave an orange color to this spot, and so on with the others.

To do that I made a new layer with the Blending Mode set to Color (Soft Light in some cases works fine also), then I used a very soft brush with proper color, and Viola!

Conclusion:

In the end you can give it a nice overall sharpen using high pass filter, this will bring even more quality to your work. So I hope you liked this piece, thanks for reading. Step 1: Selecting the correct image

It is very important to select an adequate image for your work. If the image is convincing, the final result will be too.

Step 2: Splashes

The rain needs to react with the subject, especially in a close-up, like this one.

a)Download and install the splash brushes.

b) Use the new brush set, select white color and paint some splashes. Each splash should be placed in a different layer so you can easily control the size and the rotation.

Use brushes so the splashes appear logical to the subject.

Step 3: First rain shower

a) Create a New Layer

b) Select a rain brush and start painting some raindrops with a white color

c) Apply some Gaussian blur

d) Create a new layer

e) Paint another rain shower.

Step 4: Heavy rain shower

a) Create a new layer and paint it with black

b) Add Noise: Filter > Noise > Add Noise

c) Apply motion Blur: Filter > Blur > Motion Blur. Set the angle so it matches the first rain shower

d) Set the blending mode to color dodge

e) Duplicate the heavy rain layer and set the blending mode to color dodge at 37%

Step 5: Create a Vignette

a) Create a new layer

b) Paint it with white color

c) Create an oval, invert it and paint it with black

d) Apply Gaussian blur

e) Set the blending mode to multiply at 67%

In this tutorial I would like to present how to create a fantastic abstract design in photoshop. We use very simple and amazing method for beginners to create easily abstract design that looks so awesome. So, why not have a try…

Step 1:

Create a new document with black background; size doesn’t really matter in this tutorial. Press the “P” key to select the Pen Tool, draw a work path as shown below:

Once you’ve drawn the path, select the brush tool and apply the following settings: (5px, 95% hardness)

Press “P” to select the Pen Tool again, right-click on the path and choose “Stroke Path”:

Stroke the path with the brush we selected, tick the Simulate Pressure setting:

Here is the stroke effect: (I used the green color here)

Duplicate this layer once, hit Ctrl + T and rotate it slightly counter-clockwise, move it to left a little as shown below:

Repeat this process, duplicate a few more lines, rotate and move each line slightly to form the following effect:

When you’re happy with the shape, merge those layers together by selecting all of them in layer palette, right-click on one of the layers and choose “Merge Layers”. Duplicate the merged layer a few times, rotate, and resize them with Free Transform Tool to form the effect shown below:

Adjust the layer opacity of each duplicated layer to create some image depth:

Step 2:

Now we can paint some crystal dots around the stream symbolizing some sort of life form. We can use brush dynamics to achieve this effect. So grab the brush tool with the following settings:

Scattering

Other Dynamics

And make sure you tick Airbrush and Smoothing options.

Use this brush to paint some dots around the stream lines with green/blue color:

After you’ve done the painting, apply the Sharpen filter on this dots layer:

As you can see, now the dots look sharper and crystal-like:

And here is the overall effect so far:

Optional: You can also paint some dots on the background to add some depth for the image. You can use a softer brush as shown below and use it to paint around the canvas:

Step 3:

Now we can add some starry background to the image by creating a new layer just above the background layer, and use some space brushes to paint over it.

We can then flatten the image, then duplicate the background layer and apply some Motion blur to the duplicated layer:

Change the blending mode of this motion blur layer to “Screen” and drop its opacity to around 60%:

Final Result:

Today I am presenting how to create fantastic glossy lighting effects in photoshop. In this fantastic tutorial we are going to put together a sunset image mixing some vector shapes and dusky lighting effects to produce a slick image that would make a nice album cover.  So, why not have a try…

Assets:

Additionally we are using a few assets including a photo from iStockPhoto and some vectors from Arsenal’s Freebie Section.

Step 1:

So here’s our original photo from iStock. It’s a pretty gorgeous photo with great sunset lighting and contrast for us to build on.

Step 2:

First off we duplicate the photo, press Ctrl-Shift-U to desaturate the image to Black and White. Then go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast and make the image a bit brighter and contrastier as shown.

Step 3:

Now go to Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur and apply a mild blur of 2px.

Step 4:

Now we set the blurred black and white layer to blending mode Overlay and Opacity 50%. This gives us a slightly surreal blurring on the image. BE WARNED: This effect (blurring then overlaying) is a bit of favorite of amateurs, so go easy on it. When you do use it, make sure you fade it out a reasonable amount so it doesn’t look too tacky.

Step 5:

Now the lighting is pretty nice already, but I’d like some pinkish hues in the image as it makes the image a lot warmer than bluish colors.

So in a new layer, use the Paintbucket to fill with a bright pink color. Then use the Eraser Tool with a large, soft brush and remove some areas where you don’t want as much pink to shine through (this was pretty arbitrary for me and just gives the image more depth rather it being uniformly colored). We then set the blending mode to Color and 20% Opacity. Actually I did those two steps the other way around (I blended first then erased the bits I didn’t want).

Step 6:

Step 7:

Now to make the sun rays, we are going to use a combination of glowing edges and radial blurring. So duplicate the original colored layer and put it on top of all the other layers. Then go to Filter > Stylize > Glowing Edges and use settings of 1, 11, and 15 respectively for Width, Brightness, and Smoothness.

Step 8:

Now we go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur and apply settings as shown. Make sure that you have set the blur method to Zoom (not Spin). Also importantly move the Blur Center until it’s roughly in the position of the image where the woman was standing, i.e. where the ‘sun’ is going to be. You may have to do this a couple of times to get the positioning exactly right because it’s a bit trial and error.

Once you’ve got it, apply the Radial Blur again by pressing Ctrl+F (to repeat the last filter used).

Step 9:

Now set the blending mode for this layer to Screen.

Screen blending mode basically knocks out darker colors to only leave the lighter ones. This is the opposite to Multiply which knocks out any lighter colors and just leaves darker ones. This is really handy for when you have say a logo on a white background and you want to apply it to an image but don’t want to cut it out – instead you just set it to Multiply (or Screen if it’s on black).

Step 10:

To get the light looking more like sunlight, we go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and tick the box that says Colorize to add some more color to the light rays. Then move the sliders around until you get a reddish tint and press OK.

Step 11:

Now repeat the process (Glowing Edges > Radial Blur > Screening the Image) a couple of times to get more light rays as shown. Try moving the Radial Zoom filter around a little to get different casts of light to mix together.

Also as you add extra layers on you can always use the Eraser tool to remove some parts of a layer and leave others so that they blend together well. This is generally a matter of playing around with the image until it looks right. Also note that you can use Layer Masks to do this without losing any image data, but because I never used Masks when I was learning Photoshop, out of habit I still do things the old (and probably a bit dumb) way.

Step 12:

Next we want to add the big glowing center to the image. So create a new layer on top of all the others and get a large, soft brush and with White as your foreground color paint a blob of white over where the woman’s silhouette is.

Step 13:

To this blob of white, we now add an Outer Glow of yellow set to Overlay (as shown). You can do this by right clicking on the layer and selecting Blending Options.

Step 14:

Now in your tools palette choose the Smudge Tool (R) which you can see in the image. Using your mouse, smudge your ball of light outwards. Note that in the image shown, I’ve done some pretty big smudges so you can see roughly what we’re doing, but in reality you should make smaller, more subtle smudges.

What you are trying to do here is give it a burst of light feel. You might want to duplicate the layer and have a couple of them together which is what I’ve done in the sample PSD.

Step 15:

Now what sunset would be complete without a lens flare? Rather than using the filter though just create a new layer on top and draw a circle as shown and fill it with white. Set it to blending mode Overlay and about 10% Opacity. Then create a new layer and do the same with a smaller circle and repeat again a couple of times until you have a subtle lens flare as shown.

Then merge the layers together and set it all to about 30% because we want this to be really subtle!

Step 16:

Now in new layers we paste in some of our vector images. I’ve used a sort of swirly wing thing from Arsenal’s Freebie Section and also the capital letter A from a font called Porcelain, which you can get from Misprinted Type for free.

I chose both because they have lots of lines and swirls which fits what I want to do. I also duplicated the swirly wing vector, flipped it by going to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal, then Ctrl+T to scaled it down in the transform menu. That way its good for little details.

Step 17:

Now fit the three images together as shown. When we switch them to white, we want most of the objects to be obscured with just bits of swirl poking out the edges.

Step 18:

So now for each layer we press Ctrl+I to invert the color from Black to White and then right-click the layers and select Blending Options. Then we add an Outer Glow as shown to make them fit in with the main ball of light.

Step 19:

You should now have something that looks like the image below.

Step 20:

Now for the final touches, I’ve added some text using the font Chalet which is wonderfully elegant but isn’t too over the top. Note that you might feel tempted to add a swirly, cursive type font for text, but this would be overkill. It’s much better to contrast the complexity of the main image with a very simple and understated type treatment (in my opinion). Anyhow as you can see I’ve placed it near the center of the image.

Looking at the final image, I also decided it needed a little more color so I added a layer at the very top filled with a reddish color (#957070) and set it to overlay at 30%. This warms up the image a little more, and you’ll see that layer in the final shot.

In this tutorial I will present how to create an amazing colorful heart using photoshop and we use attractive bokeh effect in a heart shape with nice a blur effect in the background of the illustration and other composition enhancement to bring more attraction and focus on the subject image. So, why not have a try…

Step 1:

Open your photoshop and create a new layer (600×500 px), fill it with black.

Step 2:

Create a new blank layer, choose soft brush tool, 500px, color f3606e to spot on the middle of the pic:

Step 3:

Create a new blank layer again, use hard brush, 30px with color f3606e to draw on the pic and then lower opacity to 60%

Right click this layer, choose Blending Options – Outer glow:

Step 4:

Create a new blank layer, choose hard brush tool, 85px, color f3606e to spot over the previous brush spot. Lower opacity to 20% and apply Gaussian blur with 4px we have:

Step 5:

Merge two these brush spot layers (in my Layers pallete, it’s layer 2). Duplicate layer 2 then merge them we get layer 2 copy. Duplicate it four times, resize and change the color of some by applying Color overlay from Blending options, set the position like this:

After that, merge all these layers.

Step 6:

Create a new layer, use custom heart shape tool with the option like the pic below :

Draw on the pic like this:

Step 7:

Create a new blank layer, choose brush tool, hard brush, 30px and press F5 to adjust settings:

Then choose color f3606e to start tracing the path of heart shape, and don’t let the brush out much of shape:

Step 8:

Create a new blank layer, choose brush tool, press F5 and set Scattering (keep all old brush setting in previous step)

Use brush with different colors to paint within the shape ( don’t let it out of shape), use light color for the center of shape:

Step 9:

Come back to heart shape layer, choose PenTool, then right click this shape, choose Delete path:

Today’s tutorial about how to create an amazing light effect in photoshop. We will play with blending modes, adjustments layers and brushes. We will use smoke brushes, but I recommend you to experiment with any kind of brush set. So, let’s have a try…

Support files:

• Paper texture

• Smoke brushes

Step 1:

Create a new document. Select the Paint bucket tool (G) and fill the layer with black (#000000). Now paste in the paper texture and resize it (press ctrl+t to enable the transform tool). Set the layer blend mode to overlay. You should have a totally black document.

Step 2:

Create a new layer between the black one and the texture. Select a large, soft white brush (hardness 0%) and start painting over the center. Reduce the opacity of the layer untill you’re satisfied with the result.

Step 3:

Apply a gradient map by clicking on the “create adjust layer” button below the layer window. Choose the default gradient from purple to orange. Set the layer to overlay and the opacity to 70%.

Step 4:

Paste in the image of someone/something. I chose this nice image of a statue, but you can pick up whatever you want.

Step 5:

Use curves (ctrl+M) and levels (ctrl+L) to increase the contrast of the image (in this case the statue, but I always increse the contrast of the images I use to make them more vivid). Repeat step 3 and create an identical gradient map layer. This time we want to affect only the statue, not the background; so select the gradient map layer and go to Layer>Create Clipping Mask.

Step 6:

Create a new layer, select white or a light purple as foreground color, and start painting with a large soft brush. The aim is to create a background light effect. Imagine that you have to create a route for the light effect. The curve in the screenshot below is the direction we want to give to the effect. I suggest you to create a single layer for each click with your brush, so that you’ll have more control and also you can use different colors. Remember to reduce the opacity of these layers from 10% to 30%.

Step 7:

Grab the Lasso tool (L), set feather to 30px, and make a selection as shown below:

Step 8:

Set purple as foreground color (#fb97fb) and black as background. Create a new layer and go to Filter>Render>Clouds. Press ctrl+F to increase the contrast of the clouds. Press ctrl+D to deselect.

Step 9:

We want to eliminate the black parts of the clouds, so set the layer to screen. Now apply curves (ctrl+M) and levels (ctrl+L) to increase the contrast and use the erase tool to remove unwanted clouds. You can also duplicate the layer if you want a stronger effect.

Step 10:

Create a new group and set the layer blend mode to color dodge. Create a new layer inside the group. Choose a white soft brush and start painting over the part of the image you want to enhance. As in step 6, use different layers, and reduce the opacity of anyone around 25%.

Step 11:

Create a new layer, title it “light smoke” and switch the layer blend mode to color dodge. Set the foregorund color to a nice purple (#f053f0). Now select one of the smoke brushes and paint. Duplicate this layer 2/3 times: you have a nice light effect.

Step 12:

Repeat step 11 in order to obtain other light effects. You can use the same technique with other brushes.

Today I will present how to creating abstract light effect in photoshop. We use glows and lots of neon that can be applied to photography or illustration with equal impact. So, let’s get start…

Let’s create a new file (File>New) of 1280×1024 px and 72 dpi. Then apply the Rectangle Tool (U) to represent the background of the picture to be.

Use the next shown parameters for the made layer by making a mouse click on this layer on the layers’ palette. Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Find a picture; having represented a girl on it (I used this picture from SXC. I would like to thank the author of this picture):

Cut her figure out and insert it on the main picture:

Click on the bottom part of the layers’ palette on Create new fill or adjustment layer>Curves

Press Alt button and make a mouse click between the Curves effect’s layers and the girl’s layer (on the layers’ palette)

Next click on the bottom part of the layers’ palette on Create new fill or adjustment layer>Black & White

Press Alt button and make a mouse click between the Black & White effect’s layer and the previous layer (on the layers’ palette)

Next create a new file (File>New) of 50×50 px and 300 dpi. Delete background and use the Pencil Tool (B) to represent a black square instead of it of 31×34 px.

Select then the option Edit>Define Brush Preset

Now we shall create a new layer and apply here the created brushe, set brushe options in Brushes palette (F5), that may be chosen on the lateral panel on the right side. The brush’s color is #E6E6AC. Let’s represent a shape looking like a train on her both hands. This layer needs to be placed lower than the layer containing the girl.

Next you may see the parameters for the layer containing the brushes: Blending Options>Outer Glow

Let’s represent a kind of wing of white color for the girl, applying in this case the Pen Tool (P). Place this layer lower than the girl’s layer:

Make a copy of the last made layer and select Free Transform option to turn the copy around, placing it the same way from below. This layer will be situated also lower than the girl’s layer:

Next we’ll rasterizing the wings’ layers into a single one. Press Ctrl button to mark out the necessary layers and then press CTRL+E. On the new layer we’ve got make a mouse click on the bottom part of the layers’ palette on Add a Mask selection. After this operation, try to use a standard brush (Brush Tool (B)) (Opacity of 30%) to clean out with black color the layer containing the wings.

Next we’ll represent a line, starting with drawing path, applying the Pen Tool (P), Path Mode.

You can find created path in Path palette.

Move in Layers palette to Create a new layer and choose for it a standard brush of grey color (Diameter 9, Hardness 100%), select Pen Tool (P), and make a right click on created path in Path palette to Stroke Path (Brush Mode, Simulate Pressure)

In today’s tutorial I will present how to create amazing movie effect in phoyoshop. In this tutorial we use color adjustment, hue saturating and blur effect to make a normal photo turn into movie effect. So, let’s have a try…

What you will learn: colour mood adjustments + depth of field effect + film effect

PS: ⌘ key for Mac users / CTRL key for Windows users

Colour mood adjustments & image

1. Adjust the Hue/Saturation: ⌘U/CTRL-U

2. Adjust the brightness and contrast: Menu > Image > Adjustments > Exposure…

Depth of field effect:

3. Duplicate current active layer by dragging it to the ‘create a new layer’ button located at the bottom of Layer window.

4. Apply lens blur on the new layer on top: Menu > Filter > Blur > Lens Blur…

Adjust according to your own preference.

5. Click on the ‘add layer mask’ button at the bottom of Layer window. Then click and select the ‘Layer mask thumbnail’ (the white rectangle).

6. Select brush tool(b), set the master diameter to 400px. Then choose the focus point in the photo and click on it.

7. Create a new layer by clicking the ‘create a new layer’ button located at the bottom of Layer window.

8. Fill the new layer with black colour: reset colour to default black & white (d), switch black colour to background (x), fill the layer (⌘-del/CTRL-backspace)

9. Set the opacity of the black layer to 70% by pressing ’7′

10. Use erase tool(e), set the master diameter to 400px. Then start erase the center of the photo.

11. Flatten the image: Menu > Layer > Flatten Image and add noise: Menu > Filter > Noise > Add Noise…

Cinemascope (optional)

12. Add black bars on top and bottom of photo and it’s done!

Use Rectangular Marquee Tool(m) to select (drag) upper part of photo, hold the shift key and select the bottom part, fill with black colour (⌘-del/CTRL-backspace)
